  • A message to Sony Playstation about the state of Bloodborne in 2024. I understand Fromsoftware doesn't even own the game...Sony does. Which is likely way Bloodborne Remastered/Remake/2 will release with the PS6...one can hope!
Bloodborne is a 2015 action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 4. Bloodborne follows the player's character, a Hunter, through the decrepit Gothic, Victorian-era-inspired city of Yharnam, whose inhabitants are afflicted with a blood-borne disease which transforms the residents, called Yharnamites, into horrific beasts. Attempting to find the source of the plague, the player's character unravels the city's mysteries while fighting beasts and cosmic beings.

Some people genuinely do think that if a new player sees something running at 30fps it'll melt their puny normie brains.
Bloodborne was my first fromsoft title. It kicked my ass. I had a great time and it's quality hasn't gone down with time. I'd say that jake's recommendation of elden ring, demons souls and dark souls 2 OVER bloodborne is downright ludicrous.
Bloodborne was so great at introducing the player to fast paced, brutal, punishing but rewarding combat, as opposed to these other titles that were either unfair (elden ring), slow (dark souls 2) or not designed around fun bossfights (demons souls).
Hell, recommending dark souls 1 over bloodborne when it's got that whole shitty second half in it is absurd. Dark Souls 1 is carried by nostalgia and originality at the time, not genuine quality.
And sekiro? The combat in that game is superb, and is basically so different from any other fromsoft post-demons title that you can recommend it to most people provided they understand the game isn't your average AAA handholding title. I would also disagree with some people calling it the "hardest" fromsoft title. It's neither particularly more easy or particularly harder than the rest of the line-up, it's just different.

I love blood borne, but I played it after lies of P and Elden Ring and it shows the wrinkles. The character customization is old and lack a lot of features that modern games have added, and the graphics and the way the character moves show more age right after you’ve played this new titles, the hunter has this rigid way of moving that looks more robotic than the puppets of P. What’s holding this game will always be gameplay story and atmosphere. But a remake at least will be nice, they have done the last of us multiple times and those games are less than a turd compare to the greatness of BB

@@rng_stuff I’ve played consoles for just under 2 decades and I can assure you loading times have not slowed down, in fact they’ve noticeably sped up, especially between the PS4/5. I’m also not quite sure what you mean by accessibility, but I’d disagree with that. They’re very easy to set up and have a variety of games that cater to plenty of people. I can’t speak on the online play for Bloodborne as I played it way past its prime and apparently it’s dead these days anyways, but the paid online services is shit for PlayStation, won’t defend them on that.
Saying that the FPS affected your experience though? I struggle to believe you. FPS impacts competitive PVP games where you’re facing real people. Souls games against AI-ran bosses are about learning the tells of a move and learning to avoid them. If you’re struggling that badly then I personally don’t believe that FPS is the issue there…
Think of it this way too. People managed when they first came out and it isn’t as if the quality of them has deteriorated. You just have higher standards for gaming as is natural. That doesn’t make them unplayable though, not to any degree. So the issue isn’t the FPS, it’s what you’re used to personally. Again I switch between 30 and 60 FPS games regularly, whether it be First Person Shooters, Souls-likes or whatever else, so maybe I’m used to adjusting between them quickly. Even with the example you used I struggle to believe that FPS made all the difference. You probably just learned the moves and the extra FPS gave you that extra confidence you needed to complete it, like a placebo almost.
Super Hexagon I can understand more since there’s no learning patterns, it’s all about speed. Hey at the end of the day if you want to pin your gaming issues on FPS I can’t stop you, I just personally disagree. Have a good day

Asking to someone who's used to 144 fps gaming to play a game that runs at 30 fps is like asking someone who's used to 30 fps to play a game at 15 fps. Sure, you can move. You can understand what is happening on screen, but it feels terrible. It is not something you can enjoy, no matter how good the game is, and that's Bloodborne for me. I was literally talking about how I want to play Bloodborne so badly with a friend today. It saddens me to know that Sony owns the IP... Not Fromsoft because Sony seemingly does not care about this game. I would have taken Bloodborne over the two Horizon games they decided to release on PC. Either they ARE doing something with the game to release on PC and probably PS5 at some point or.... they just don't care about giving the game to more people who would absolutely jump all over it. Hell release it on Xbox I don't care I just want to play the game and I'd much rather just buy it on Steam than have to buy a console or stream the game through PSPlus. I have only been on PC for most of my life (minus when I was younger and we had consoles in the house) but I never bought an Xbox One or PS4... So it sucks not being able to play one of FromSofts most praised games. The only thing I can continue to hold out hope for is an announcement comes later this year with plans for a remaster or remake coming in 2025 on the 10 year anniversary. But... Everyday that goes by without an announcement my faith dwindles ever so slightly. A man can hope I guess.

People need to chill tf out about boss runs. They can be tedious but they can also be an important part of level design. A lot of the fantastic short cuts in these games were designed with the boss run in mind. In many cases it adds to the idea of learning how to fight the level as well as the boss.
Stakes of marika work in Elden ring because many of the bosses exist in a sprawling open world. They’re largely absent from most of the dungeon sections.
I agree that sometimes they can be unnecessarily hard, but I don’t think they should be removed altogether. I think asking Sony/from to remove boss runs is a few steps away from asking for easy mode.

I personally dont like dealing with Orphan of Kos (brutal) but i wouldnt change anything about that fight. You just gotta keep doing it till you learn the moveset or change the way you approach it.
Or even a non boss example, the madness build up in the nightmare realm can be hell to deal with if not properly prepared. If you weaken the amount or rate that it builds up so that you never have to worry about damage, theres not really a point to having it there.

The beastly scourge spreading amidst the path to ascension to Great Ones happened to Yharnam, it previously happened to the Pthumerians and if the Moon Presence wasn’t defeated then it would’ve happened to the civilisation to come after Yharnam too. Unless they made a spin-off, totally unrelated to Yharnam, the beasts and insight vs blood (which seems pointless unless they did a game that, location-wise, revolved around Cainhurst and new areas surrounding that, then this IP needs to be left as a brilliant one off, otherwise it will risk ruining the story laid out

IIRC earlier Fromsoft had a tendency to lock some game-tick stuff to frame rates, probably as a way to make sure unexpected frame stutters don't fuck you over in a tense fight. Like, even with DSFix for the original PC version of DS1 there are still a few issues with ladders, jumping, hit detection etc. Think even the durability of weapons went down quicker as the weapon durability counted each hit twice or something like that. They're obviously better at that nowadays but could be that there's still some of that laying around in the bloodborne code.

Like, have an item, (like an empty syringe or something) that sucks the blood out of a dead enemy. And have it fill up a different amount based on the enemy. And maybe have different enemy types give the player different effects. Some positive and some negative. That might be an idea for an entirely new game but i thought that it would be cool for a game like Bloodborne

Totally agree with all your points about the annoyances. Some of the most rewarding fights I had against bosses were when I gave up entirely on using Blood Vials because I didn't want to waste them as it forced me to learn how to fight them properly, but I felt like my incentive for doing that being that I was avoiding a tedious chore kind of diminished the reward. I think ditching blood vial farming entirely in favour of fewer total replenishing heals would result in way more rewarding boss fights in general, or if not this, something similar, but farming them or wasting blood echoes on them definitely detracts from the game.

While I still place Bloodborne as my 2nd best From Software game right after Elden Ring, however, looking back at BB since 2022, some aspects of the game have aged badly I'd say, its Chalice Dungeons system is so bad IDEK how that made it into the final game, lots of jankiness comapred to Sekiro & Elden RIng, Blood vial farming which really hampers the game's pacing, a lot & I mean A LOT of enemy reuses & repetitions especially for such a short game compared to DS3 & ER, Mediocre boss roster in the base game that is only saved by the DLC, even the DLC uses a lot of the base game enemies, the combat itself is still awesome but I would also say it has some annoyances, while locking-on, you can't run in any direction unless it's forward, this has been fixed since DS3, also no jumping mechanic which added a lot to ER's & Sekiro's combat systems, its RPG mechanics like stats & leveling is overly simplified, the Blood Gems system is overly cumbersome & frustrating at times, bosses in the base game are very simplistic mechanically compared to Sekiro & Elden Ring.
Still, Bloodborne is one of my favorite games of all time & I still replay it over & over from time to time, we need a remaster Sony!!!

I gave Bloodborne a shot the year it came out after being told to play it over and over again by a friend of mine. At that point I was aware of fromsoft games and their “heinous difficulty and rage inducing gameplay”. Reluctantly i picked it up because the aesthetic DID peek my interest. I got to father gascoine and rage quit. The unfairness (as I saw it then) was not worth it.
Time passed and I got into George RR Martin’s works. Learned that he would be involved with Elden Ring. Learned more about the concept of the game and saw trailers of the game. Thought to myself that at the very least the story would probably be incredible. Purchased Elden Ring maybe 2-3 months after its release and 180+ hours later finally saw the end credits. I finished the game having loved it immensely. It taught me how to absorb and extrapolate the story from a Souls game. Made the “i get it” combat click. I was hooked and wanted more. Only made sense to go back from the beginning. Dark Souls 1, then 2, then 3. Had wonderful experiences. I knew Sekiro was part of the conversation but I also knew that it was different. I wanted that very specific souls experience and I knew Sekiro wouldnt give me that. Im sure its great but I wanted something very specific. I knew i had to revisit bloodborne.
My experience of Bloodborne was a complete 180. Its perfect. Being not versed in the Souls style of gameplay It didnt take long to adapt to the new style. Rolling and blocking GONE. Now it was just side stepping and it was addictively fun and cool to perform. For some reason it was also way too intuitive for some reason. When it felt like the right time to dodge, it was. Elden Ring was just AOE attacks and Delayed Attacks that just frustrated me. But Bloodborne was more blunt! If they raised a weapon or limb at you it was immediately coming for my face! My timing was very good from the get go. I chalk it up to “well yeah i played 4 other souls games, i must have gotten gud” or whatever. Im no longer intimidated. The 30fps didnt bother me in the slightest. Ive been playing games for a long time, things weren’t always 60fps. If anything if the game was 60fps i dont think the side step would be as satisfying or cool looking cause that blur effects really sells that the character is moving too fast to see and really immerses the player in the action. If it were in 60fps it would loose that gritty roughness that is so visceral about bloodborne. Much how Demon Souls remake decided to keep the core mechanics in place as to not lose the feel, i would like that if a BB remake was done via Blue Point that they keep the 30fps. Just up the graphics and fidelity of everything else!

"why couldn't they just do 60 fps if the loading is better on ps5"
The loading improvements are not a patch, it's just a coincidental benefit because the hardware (PCI SSD) is that much better you see improvements even though they didn't actually do anything to the game. It has also improved the frame drops under 30 pretty significantly, but the pacing is still bad sometimes and that all has to do with the actual game which again, hasn't been touched in years.
I doubt we'll ever get a reason for why they haven't touched it, but I don't ever see people mention that this was co-developed by fromsoft with Japan Studio which Sony has axed so it's not unlikely that has something to do with it. That's a shame because they also made/had a hand in many other super underrated projects like puppeteer, gravity rush, etc.
