I am addicted to Disturb's version of this song. Now I love to watch the first time reactions of people. Goosebumps every time. Even after hearing it dozens of times.
His name is David Draiman. He is the lead singer for the metal band Disturbed. He is a classically trained operatic baritone who trained for many years to be a cantor in a synagogue. When he sings, he is able to move up and down at least 2 octaves with no tension. His breath control shows how experienced he is. His head and chest voices are equally relaxed. Interestingly he sings his raspy segments not IN FRONT of his vocal folds using his facial muscles etc. Other people would have blown out and scarred his vocal cords/vocal folds. Highly, highly skilled guy. I’m glad you heard this version without being familiar with the original song from the early 60’s, so your reaction is very pure. Your husband knows the difference- he can hear that Disturbed honors the original version. He’s right. There are people who say that the original version from the 60’s, sung in a folk style, was a serious melancholy warning about being detached from one another, not listening to one another, not talking face to face. Then the thought is that when David sings this, it is deeply sad and angry about how no one listened. “Quit it and listen and talk to one another- find the truth where it really resides”. Please watch the official video. The story line there is really deep and honestly, shows the ruins of life being recovered and still coming back better if we collectively hear the bigger warning. He is story telling - not just singing mindlessly. And he elicits an emotional reaction from people who have the patience to truly listen all the way through. This is magnificent in and of itself. Draiman has said that when they perform this song in concert, he looks out and sees people weeping. They are truly listening to the lyrics for the first time. He has invited people into his genre and he has invited himself into a different genre. Their usual stuff is rough, but always has a message. Thank you!
Simon and Garfunkel's original was a warning that technology would take over human's ability to communicate on a personal level. Disturbed with David Draiman at the helm was showing sadness, anguish, and anger that the warning was not heeded. Believe it or not David was very ill with the influenza during this performance but went on anyway!
This version gives me goosebumps and makes me tear up every time 😭 David has an incredible voice and tone....what a work of art. He was made to sing this song.
You commented that Mr. Draiman showed respect for the original material and you are correct. His respect was such that Paul Simon actually commended his cover and put a link to this performance on his own social media. Kudos.
This is David Draiman , hes an trained opera singer, the emotional substiance is beyound amazing. You said it right the name Disturbed relly means they will disturb you.. Check out "Hold on to the memories" you will cry your eyes out..
Paul Simon has this on his playlist that's a very good compliment coming from the original singer and songwriter the heel of the way they covered the song
Listen to their Evolution album (their newest). "A Reason to Fight" and "Hold onto Memories" official versions will blow you away. But they are a heavy metal band. So be prepared to ROCK!
not sure if someone mentioned it, or if you guys were aware, but he was actually "under the weather" when he performed this song on Conan. Also, even though he is the front man of a heavy metal band, he is classically trained. So talented.
This is a powerful cover of a song written in 1965!! This group has never done a song like this before as they are a Hard Rock/Metal group!! This is my favorite song recorded in the past 5 years!! Wondrously and remarkably this is so far removed from Disturbed's typical music that anyone (EVERYONE?) is taken aback and or blown away!! Not until this was released (12/2015) did anyone feel these lyrics so intensely!! This is way more dominant and dynamic than the 1965 original; not necessarily better!! This song SHOULD be listened to by anyone who likes music; all genre listeners should experience this song!! IMO, 2 more magical songs, check out Heart paying tribute to Led Zeppelin (2012) in front of the boyz!! Beautiful/Powerful/Incredible Version!! = ruclips.net/video/8e2fJfiddx4/видео.html and then listen to Johnny Cash remake a Nine Inch Nail song (Grunge)... and own it!! = ruclips.net/video/8AHCfZTRGiI/видео.html . *you should view the official video for this band/song. *if you feel like seeing/hearing something so extraordinary that I'm not sure this could be improved upon = ruclips.net/video/b5nRY4qa1C4/видео.html
This video is a vocal, lyrical and visual journey and when reviewers interrupt every 10 seconds it diminishes the whole thing. The transition from verse 2 to verse 3 to me is the high water mark and most reactors stop it there. Wrong place.
People say "it gets louder"...... Its called an octave shift. He sang the first part an octave higher. Which is impressive. I can sing his highest note...but not his lowest.
Disturbed is a hard rock band that did this song in a way different way from their music, I've known them since the start and yeah they are usually rockin out with their other tunes.
Listen to a song called "Darkness" by Disturbed. It's off their 2nd album and he sings softly on it. For their more typical sound, "Stupify" was their first hit single.
This version is much better than the original...just because he brings out more feeling from the song. The original is a nice song...but David Draiman brings it to life
David Draiman is the lead singer of a US heavy metal band. David was classically trained as a cantor, who is someone that sings liturgical music and leads prayer in a synogague. David can sing in 3 octaves C2 to A5 from bass to F#2 baritone to tenor. He is an absolute master of his art. Just hearing him speak is an incredible experience too. His ability to do what he does with his voice is unmatched.
This is a heavy metal band that started in 1964. They are perhaps the most versitile bands you will hear. React to Hold on to Memories, which is one of their own songs that is very touching and emotional. They are also advocates of drug abuse, depression and suicide prevention and they preform a song written for this at their concerts, "A Reason to Fight, the live version. They are an amazing band.
This guy destroyed this song! I love watching reactions like yours. As it builds people are mesmerized by his voice and as he approaches the end of the song, I know when he belts out the last stanza, it's like a heavyweight champion boxer delivering a classic knockout. You always see mouths drop open and eyes get wide when he says,"And the people bowed and prayed".... One of the greatest live performances in music history, in my opinion. Peace.....
Watch any reaction video to this song and they all stop in the same places and say the same thing about his voice and how it comes across then at the end they all have the same emotional reaction .... almost every album they do a cover but this time they changed it up so much to make such a powerful statement
David Draiman. Classically trained Jewish Cantor. Lead singer for heavy metal band Disturbed. Did probably the best remake of any song and best rendition of this song ever made. The live version is as good or better than his studio version
metal band, lead singer - David Draiman...these covers show the contrast and great ability of the band, watch the music video intsead of when he went on Conan, much better
I Hate that your Wife always stops the Videos much times and on points tat are always Bad ! She destroyed any Video . You can not feel the music or understand the video , when you cut it in mini Parts
God said David: Would you like to have the voice of an angel, or of a demon. David said: Yes! David is classically trained, sings in a metal band. He was actually sick on the Conan show. Paul Simon heard the song, and instantly gave them permission. Personally I like both versions, but I like Disturbed's version better. Live to Survive!
You right o my god ! 10,000 people maybe more !! We know thete were 600.000 people ( more then 10.000 ) it is written 😠 that the people .saw the voices ( not heard the voice ) the pen writing music notes is the pen used to write the bible ! The part you got axsited ??? Is when mouse.s broke the 10 commandments ! Out of Anger ! And the people bowed and pray to the neon God they med !! It is the golden calf they med !!!!I am still shivering
Imagine that David Draiman had a cold. And no, that's not the reason he sounded nasal. Tak, forresten, for en dansk respons til en fremragende coverversion af d'herrer mestre Simon & Garfunkel.

When I hear someone say "oh, the Simon and Garfunkel song" I know a good reaction will follow.
I ‘be heard this song hundreds of times. Gives me goosebumps every time.
Me too ... always teary at the end. I can't think of a more powerful message in song.
I am addicted to Disturb's version of this song. Now I love to watch the first time reactions of people. Goosebumps every time. Even after hearing it dozens of times.
David Draiman's voice is unparalleled !! Awesome....so controlled and just damn natural talent!!
I have listened to this song many times. Every time it finishes i have to remind myself to start breathing again. Wow!

I melt into his voice and this beautiful song! Good reaction as always!
So profound and powerful!! This version touches your soul!! EPIC SONG... EPIC VOICE ... EPIC INSTRUMENTALS!!!

Excellent.
That's amazing, thank you for this information!
Actually from what I read it was a real dream by Simon and he wrote it once he woke up and it's about following a false God.
Paul Simon told Disturbed that Sound of Silence is now their song. Disturbed is a metal band.
Kudos.
Lyrical audacity. Vocal audacity. Symphonic audacity. Said differently? This song is magnificent!!
Yep no words. What a voice. Love your reaction! Luv from Australia ❤️🎼❤️🎼
Their video is also fantastic. But this performance is LIVE. amazing.
Paul Simon loved this so much that he posted a link to it on his social media accounts, which he has never done.
I super love the sound of silence song my God I love his voice so powerful yeah great singer. Nice reaction again from Nielsens 👏👏👏
Powerful, deeply honest reaction! Love and peace to you both

Best song choice! Amazing talent indeed
Disturbed have been going since 1996 ,this song brought them to the attention of a wider audience in 2016
Paul Simon has this on his playlist that's a very good compliment coming from the original singer and songwriter the heel of the way they covered the song

imho the most perfect performance of any song ever.
Its like everytime your soul starts to feel the words......YOU STOP THE VIDEO !!!!!!!!
Paul Simon put a link to this cover of his mid 60's song. He call it the best cover of any of their songs.
Paul Simon said it's the only cover he ever put on his site.
Gives me the chills every time I hear it
Wonderful reaction!
I just clicked the subscribe bell for you guys!
Awesome!❤️🌎❤️🌎
Mr. Draiman is an operatically trained cantor and in this song you get an idea of his range and his control of his voice as a finely tuned instrument.
Thank you for the info. ❤️🇩🇰
David's Voice Slay's All Other Singers
Glad you enjoyed I do as well it’s a great version
A great reaction to a wonderful song. I can see you both enjoyed it.
Great reaction, guys. That voice is totally amazing!!
not sure if someone mentioned it, or if you guys were aware, but he was actually "under the weather" when he performed this song on Conan. Also, even though he is the front man of a heavy metal band, he is classically trained. So talented.
He was actually sick doing that performance but he cant let people down
I thought I knew the song. After I heard this rendition... I found I did not know it at all.
What an amazing voice, sounds very cool and very talented.
They are my fav all time band, been around over 20 yrs, they sing mostly hard rock and metal. The Light and a reason to Fight might interest you.
This is a powerful cover of a song written in 1965!! This group has never done a song like this before as they are a Hard Rock/Metal group!!

He’s heavy metal
Paul Simon said this was the best version, and even put the video up on his on site.
This video is a vocal, lyrical and visual journey and when reviewers interrupt every 10 seconds it diminishes the whole thing. The transition from verse 2 to verse 3 to me is the high water mark and most reactors stop it there. Wrong place.

Nice reaction...
This version is much better than the original...just because he brings out more feeling from the song. The original is a nice song...but David Draiman brings it to life
David Draiman is classically trained baritone, but is a singer in a metal band. Very interesting combination.
I love this review of my main man David Draiman 😍🎤🔥

"Wow it was so deep". That's what she said...about David's voice of course 👍
Deep, deep dipity deep

Simon and garfunkel said when they heard this cover this was disturbed song now
This guy destroyed this song!
I love watching reactions like yours. One of the greatest live performances in music history, in my opinion.

You guys need to react to Devin Townsend Kingdom next ;-) Its the natural progression of things
David Draiman has quite a range.
