This gets spread in every single video of this song LOL. He was NOT classically trained, he'd be the first to tell you this. He learned how to cantor when he was a young boy at Temple. That is nowhere near being classically trained. Despite receiving the odd voice lesson here and there (so that he could do the vocal fry technique properly- aka the growling), David pretty much taught himself. Which, I think, is more impressive.

I am over 75 and was reduced to tears when I heard this cover of The Sound of Silence by Disturbed. The original made you think but this version penetrated every pore and affected me from head to toe. David's voice and interpretation of the lyrics, and the awesome accompaniment are perfect. I never tire of listening and am moved by David's vocals-he feels every note. The lyrics from the past stand the test of time. However, this is like a religious experience.
Thank you for NOT pausing. It should be listened to without pause, for that takes away from the fluidity of all involved that created this masterpiece. Talk about teamwork! Breathtaking ❤️.
Sound of Silence is a generational song, we remember the original but this is the song that asks us 'why the hell weren't you listening?', if you have the time, you need to listen to the studio version, with all the images telling the story
Epic is the best word to describe their performance of this song. They took beautiful lyrics from nearly sixty years ago, and performed it in a way that forced you to listen and feel the message.

This is the best version of this song ever heard. there have been a few who have performed it. even heard another base try but no one can do it justice. David sings this song and it truly touches the soul.
That's not true. People misquote that all the time. Paul Simon never once said that. What people are blindly reposting is a paraphrase of what Trent Reznor said about Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt. You want to see what Paul really said? loudwire.com/disturbed-approval-from-paul-simon-the-sound-of-silence-cover/ _Simon stated, "Really powerful performance on Conan the other day. First time I'd seen you do it live. Nice. Thanks._ That is what David Draiman said, directly, about what Paul Simon emailed him.
Great reaction to the greatest cover of any song I have heard since I was a teen in 1968. David Draiman of Disturbed has blown every other cover of this song away. Not surprising since Draiman was being classically trained as a cantor, the most important figure after the rabbi in the Jewish worship service. The cantor conducts the liturgical portion of the service by leading people in singing & prayer and who must know long passages of Hebrew by heart. They also must have excellent singing voices. Fortunately, for the public, he was expelled several times from different yeshivas and he decided he was not cut out for that life. As a result, we have this heavy metal singer that can bring people to tears with the beauty of his voice. So powerful and hauntingly beautiful. Can't think of anyone who can compete. Please do yourselves a favor and watch Disturbed's Official Video of this song, so much more powerful than the Conan show version. So glad Office Bloke Mike got to react to this song since he was the most familiar with the original song!

The best cover ever. Love this version. It,s been on my play list for years, prefer this to the original.
Hello gentlemen! I hope that you are happy and healthy! Btw- apparently he learned to sing Classical Opera first in his repertoire... yes his voice is spectacular. Perfect for this song. And I still get goose bumps every time I hear it lol. Take care : )....AND! I respect you SO much for respecting this piece enough to not pausing it every other second like some do.
Merry Christmas, boys. Merry Christmas to everyone reading this. May the holiday season be good to all of you. Take care and be good for goodness sake
Superb review you are very honest and interesting and I am as many others now will be a subscriber... again the 1st word after people hear this song on 90% of the reactions... Voice on loan from God and the word is "WOW" ... wonderful...
Thanks Guys. Always good to hear a Brit reaction for a change, cos we know sarcasm and wit :)
Please consider Zombie cover by Bad Wolves - has to be the official video, and also My Chemical Romance song Welcome To The Black Parade. Introduced to all of these by my teenage son and just love them
The grit and voice fry gives me chills every time I hear David sing this song
This song is so great, it is a new message to humanity, to wake up and see the warnings around us.
David did an absolute great job on this song. Nice and easy then boom! A point was being made to pay attention to the world around you and be who you should and need to be. Anyway my take on it. Thank you gentlemen for this reaction.
This song has always given me chills and I love it, great song and Disturbed never disappoints me. Thank you for this reaction.
Love how Mike was blown away by this.
Beautiful, never thought I'd say that with a Disturbed song.
First time listening to you Office Blokes, but I loved your honest and respectful reaction to this amazing song performance! Looking forward to hearing more from you blokes. You’ve probably heard this before, but the bloke on the left is nearly a spitting image of Harry Nilsson. That’s just a bonus.
Wow indeed!
Disturbed have done a few covers - 'Land of Confusion' [Genesis]; 'Shout' [Tears for Fears]; 'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking for' [U2.
Thanks for a wonderful reaction video -- I really enjoyed it!
Just a man and a orchestra belting it out. awesome. so powerful. have you done Jack White covering Jolene yet??? so good.
Yes please
there version is truly amazing to think he had the flu that day and still performed a song that still brought goose bumps to me and tears to my eyes. This is the best version of this song ever heard. there have been a few who have performed it. even heard another base try but no one can do it justice. David sings this song and it truly touches the soul.
Great choice! I knew I liked you for a reason Daz, you have good taste sir!👍
Small Town Titans- "You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch" you will love it 👍
Paul Simon said this song belongs to them now. He even added it to his playlist.
That's not true. People misquote that all the time. Paul Simon never once said that. What people are blindly reposting is a paraphrase of what Trent Reznor said about Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt. You want to see what Paul really said?

_Simon stated, "Really powerful performance on Conan the other day. First time I'd seen you do it live. Nice. Thanks._
That is what David Draiman said, directly, about what Paul Simon emailed him.
I always come back to watch this again because it's still among the best reactions to this performance I have seen. I'm sure you guys would tease each other about being quiet during a reaction but I can see in your eyes that this song moves through you just like it does me and I find how relatable and real your reaction is to be really refreshing on this platform! Thanks for the wonderful content as always!
PS- (Sorry this comment is so late in coming but I'm a lurker).
@Charlee1776.Yes I'm late too re this review. I thought the one who really got it, was the guy in the middle..Otherwise Poor reactions compared to so many others. Truly you must look at so many other reactions. Keep safe from England.
@@lindagourlay1892 Thanks for your comment and your opinion. I'm sorry to say that I disagree. I thought their reactions were legit, which is more than I can say for at LEAST 95% of what you find on here. I'm glad you at least found something to enjoy in Mike's reaction though. Stay well!
Simon said that this song belongs to Disturb now. He reached out to them and publicly promoted in his personal page. They covered "If I ever lose my faith in you" by sting, that is great too
Merry Christmas You Office BlOKES !!!!!!!
David had influenza at that time. 3cheers from Canada
Mike's reaction mirrored my own. I was blown away.
The official video of this is spectacular... you need to watch it.
So much feeling ♥️♥️♥️🙏🏼
The music video to this is stunning
Simon and Garfunkel wrote this song!!!
Disturbed know owns this song!!!
You can't deny the grawls effectiveness, cheers mates.. cA
This was brilliant. I somehow missed this until now. I’ve certainly heard of Disturbed, although not such a fan of Metal music.
But this though. Wow. It gave me chills.
The singing was phenomenal, the piano and orchestral arrangement was hauntingly beautiful, and I agree about the timpani (or kettledrums).
I’m glad to have discovered your channel, as I like the multi-generational format of your panel, as you each have great things to contribute, and you’re introducing me to new things I haven’t heard about. It makes me miss my mates in the Army when we used to have discussions like this. Where I work now is like soulless sterile drab beige by comparison.
Anyway, cheers and keep up the great work!
Great reaction guys 👍😀
