I know I'm just coming across this reaction, but that's because I love Disturbed and this cover reaction is making its rounds once again to a new crop of reactors! I myself am an artist of words as well, but in the literary form. However, I am unknown so my literary style is still fresh and new. I believe the world SHALL know of my writing soon mainly because of the depth and emotion it comes with! That's all I have to say. HAPPY NEW YEAR!! 🎉
I never get tired of seeing the reactions to this cover. In my view the best of Sound on Silence. I can't even find the right words to describe this stunning version.
David Draiman ....one of the best male vocalists on the planet Imho. A powerful yet soulful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to vocal fry/distortion and back on a dime. He has a timbre in his voice that I've never heard before.....just hauntingly beautiful tonal properties to it! Loved your reaction Schnell and agree with you 100%!.
After Schnell talked about how she loves vocal fry in the right spots, who else was looking forward to the "And the people bowed and prayed"?... I have seen this performance dozens of times and I can't help but just get chills every time. Like you pointed out in the reaction I just love how he plays with everything so dynamically to fit the song and the lyrics he's singing. I'm not a singer but that's what I love about this performance so much. Great reaction.
I think what always gets me about this performance is that David was sick as hell when they did this. Like, he was so sick that the rest of band was like, "Sure, we can do this, but you're gonna sit down for the performance because we don't want you to collapse on stage." And then the fucking studio execs or producers or whatever, slipped in just the TINY bit of autotune, and David was FUCKING PISSED about it. The man is a fucking lyrical treasure and if you ever get a chance to see 'em in concert, do it. Don't pass GO, don't stop to collect $200, just fucking see 'em.
A great reaction to this song Schnell. Thanks. David is the drug. I don't just listen to this song but I feel it. It seems like I have listened to this more than 1,000 times and every time I have tears. Not tears of sadness, but tears of excitement. For me it is the best song I have ever heard and brings out many emotions in me. Thank you David for making my life better through your AMAZING voice.
@@kz03jd hahaha! This is the first time seeing this joke despite watching tons of vocal coaches react to this song. No one has said he was down with the sickness in the comments even after pointing out he was sick. Great! You're the first for me
I have heard that Paul Simon who wrote this back in the 60s (and those of us old enough knew this as a hit from Simon and Garfunkel) not only congratulated him but said that it was now his song. I agree. The original is amazing but it was more poignant. This version shows the rage barely under the surface of the lyrics. This is a timeless urban poem.
Mr. Draiman is a classically trained cantor from Chicago and during this performance, he was actually fighting a serious bout of influenza. And I love how he transitions from his vocal fry to a clear note in the middle of his "tenement halls" line.
He’s not classically trained, just trained as a cantor, there’s a pretty big difference between being classically trained and being a cantor. Also, he had a cold, not the flu. Either way, this was a stellar performance for anyone who was feeling great, let alone fighting a cold.
Great reaction! 5 years later and I still love watching people react to this epic performance. It was made greater by the fact that David Draiman was actually ill that day, yet still delivered a spectacular performance. The live orchestra also added to this incredible performance. Paul Simon, the song's creator, is said to have reached out to the band after this performance. Referring to it as the greatest cover of any of his songs, he posted the video on his social media so that his fans could share in this amazing version of a classic song. So popular has this live performance become that Conan celebrated it last year as the first video from his show to get 100 million views. An absolute classic for the ages, IMHO. Keep up the great work!
When Paul Simon himself declares this “their” song, that’s saying a lot. And props to David’s band mates on piano/keyboard, acoustic guitar and drum. Obviously Draiman draws all of the attention but his band brothers also played a big role in this.
That performance brings tears to my eyes no matter how many times I hear it. The lyrics combined with the artists emotion and strength are just incredible. When Simon and Garfunkel first wrote this it was good but Disturbed brought a whole new meaning to it. Unforgettable!
Absolutely one of my top videos to watch reactions on. I get goosebumps EVERY time I hear it. This live version is 100% better than the official video....although I'm not sure why that is. One thing to point out is that I got the feeling based on your comments that you may think this is their original song (how many times he's sung it in his career etc.) so you may want to look up the original by Simon and Garfunkle if that is the case. To my knowledge he only started singing their version shortly before this performance. Great reaction though! Thanks!
@woody9x, you are correct. The "Immortalized" record, on which this song appears for the first time, had been released in August 2015 and then Disturbed released it as a single in December 2015. But maybe she didn't notice the date of this live performance. It's been 5 years, already... Masterpiece rendition and really nice reaction! 💖💖
@woody9x in your opinion. The vocal in the official video is every bit as good as the Conan performance (if not better) and the imagery is UNBELIEVABLE. The OMV is FAR SUPERIOR....in my opinion.
@@gregd6706 Absolutely Greg. The produced version is obviously great and I listen to it all the time. There's just something about this live version that takes it to another level for me, more than most other live performances I've seen.

Great song and performance! The only complaint I have is with a performance like this that builds as it goes on, I wish it wasn’t interrupted so often. Good comments, but I wish they were saved til the song was over.
Always a pleasure to watch classically trained singers react to this. Johnny Cash’s cover of Hurt and Patsy Clines “Crazy” are a very few which also rise to this level.

The Live performance on the Conan O'brien show is by far better than the produced music video version and it's been said that David Draiman was actually sick at the time of the performance, which if true only makes this version even more amazing.
I have been waiting a long time to see and hear you do this. This was a beautiful reaction by you. I can see by your expressions and in your eyes how you are feeling. The way he sings on the consonants is beautiful!
Original song was from the 60's by Simon and Garfunkel. Best version of the song ever sang.
I have been waiting a long time to see and hear you do this. This was a beautiful reaction by you. I can see by your expressions and in your eyes how you are feeling. I like how you really get int the performance. You are as enjoyable to watch as the video itself. Your reaction was pretty much exactly what I thought it would be. I am glad to see you enjoyed this beautiful cover of a great classic song.
When Paul Simon heard this song he downloaded it onto his phone he said it was amazing song that was wrote in 1965 still resonates today
He was a trained cantor when he was young. You can hear that he has absolutely sublime control
This is my favorite cover ever 🖤
So Many Reactions To This Performance But Yours Is Hands Down The Best, Loved It!!!
I always get goosebumps every time I listen to it. I get the same feeling when Elvis sings bridge over troubled waters and unchained melody, June 1977 live your channel, hope you still have your account. 🤗😊
I was wrong Chris Stapleton congratulations on 40,000 subscribers
David was sick during this performance AND he sang seated the entire time! I don't know how singers with colds sing without coughing their brains out! And I just love that their banger lead guitarist also plays the keys.
I loved your reaction to this masterpiece by David Draiman. P.S. You have the prettiest smile of all the MANY reviews I've watched of this magnificent performance. Blessings to you and yours.
I have watched I know over one hundred reactions to this song, I love everyone of them! Your's too! I'm not big on cover song's but this version is so Powerful! Gives me chills every single time! Love it! ✌❤🎶
