The Celtics 08 experience forced Pau to get tough. Iron sharpens iron. As a Laker fan I so appreciate Boston it's fans and tough teams that have brought greatness out of my Lakers.
Congrats Pau, you deserve it brother. I loved watching number 16 and number 24 play together on the court. When those two were on fire and in sync no one could stop them.
It makes me furious when people say Pau doesn't deserve his jersey retired. If Kobe, who is the hardest working basketball player of all time, says he deserves his jersey retired, then he definitely does. Congrats, Pau! 💯🔥👏
Who said that? They were back to back champs and they needed Pau to actually do it. Kobe couldn't do it by himself. I remember Kobe being like a big brother to Pau, pushing him when necessary. This simple act means so much for all of us in the other side of the "lake". It makes us believe and it shows us your greatness. I can now say that I'm forever a Laker.
LA
The classiest man to ever play in the NBA. Thank you for what you have done and still do for LA. Those were great years to have season tickets. It has never been the same since Kobe passed. It's like we lost our heart and soul.
I hate the Lakers but you can't help but love guys like Pau, regardless of what team they play for. Class act through and through.
Pau not only got kobes recognition as a competitor.. but also got recognized by kobe as a brother.. both of which are truly rare even if youre teammates with the mamba.. More power to you and your family Pau.. truly well deserved
I hate cutting onions in these sort of things. Gasol-Kobe was a force to be recognized in those playing days. Not only did these two elevated each other.. They became one of the best duos to ever do it.
🔪🧅
the Kobe chants made me cry. Haven’t heard that in a while…. Congrats Paul your truly an amazing human being, a legend. What a beautiful family. Ik you’ll continue to do great things for others.
I still remember pau Gasols first game with the Lakers versus New Jersey amazing game, and after we all knew we had someone special
You can't imagine how amazing this is for us spaniards. He made the impossible look achievable for us, not just to play in the best leage of the world, to became a champion and to get his jersey retired in one of the best franchises. Now it doesn't seem like something impossible, but back in the 90's, when all of us fell in love with the nba thanks to Jordan and his Bulls, it was absolutely unthinkable. GRANDE PAU!!!!
That's awesome reading this ty for the context.Pau was an underrated legend
How do y’all feel about Nadal as a legend for Spain?
@@huangyi98 It's an absolutely legend as well. Nadal, Gasol, Fernando Alonso, Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol....I feel really lucky to have witnessed all this legends.
Im not a lakers fan but this got me teared up. Kobe bean must be very proud of him. Hats off Pau! ❤❤
Well deserved… Well deserved!! I know Kobe and Gigi are proud. Kobe knew this was going to happen for Pau, it was only a matter of when. We all wish Kobe was physically here to see it 😢💜💛
I love pau! He deserved this so much for everything he did for our team and everything he’s done off the court! What a role model 🙏🏽
Man, Kobe/Pau led Lakers was big part of my high school years. I remember the day Pau got traded to the Lakers and the rest was history. Thank you for the rings and memories Pau. I'm sure Kobe is looking down being proud and delighted that your jersey is hung up next to his.
I’ll always remember the day my dad told me the Lakers got Pau. And us talking about his godly stat line playing at Memphis. Then when we saw the product on the court with Kobe you could tell almost immediately that Mamba was in love 😂
Made it to the finals that year
Kobe in his own words when they got pau, " there is a God " as he was so excited to have pau on his team.
Ill never forget the first game they played together. It was towards the end and Kobe made this little happy strut towards the bench during a timeout. That's when I knew the Lakers hit the jackpot.
I believe his first game as a laker was at msg. Kobe had a smile 1 mile wide 😂
that trade is the first highway robbery I witness in my life haha Memphis gave Pau out for literally nothing
I’m not crying, you are. Congrats Pau! Kobe is a very proud brother in heaven❤️
This man right here deserves everything from the NBA and he is just the greatest of all time. Thank you Pau Gasol 🔥🐐♥️🏀
GRACIAS PAU!!!!!!
Pau, you came to my hometown LA and now I’m living in your birth country Spain. Congrats on a well deserved accomplishment. You are truly of the Laker greats.
To have your jersey retired on any team is simply beyond amazing. Huge huge huge honor. I mean common…..There are only 12 jerseys up in those rafters. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
It's still very hard to believe Kobe is gone and Pau is an all time Lakers great. Love you both deeply!
Can never get over that fact that he is gone. Truly an inspiration to the whole world
One of the most unselfish and skilled players ever. As a Lakers fan, it was an honor to watch Pau play the game of Basketball
Pau is just unselfish on and off the court. One of my favorite Laker player. Seeing his number besides Kobe's is just heartwarming.
as a Celtics fan Pau tormented us during his run. im glad he’s getting the recognition cause he truly deserves it.
Kobe could say anybody needs their jersey retired, does it hold true? no, its about what gasol has done in his career
Who said that? They were back to back champs and they needed Pau to actually do it. Kobe couldn't do it by himself. I remember Kobe being like a big brother to Pau, pushing him when necessary. Pau was a good player before going to the Lakers but Kobe had him in beast mode during his time with the Lakers.
Pay was not even a laker at heart. 🤦🏿♂️
Agreed, but we live in a time where these internet edgelords are constantly competing over who can have the worst take imaginable on any given topic.
@Truth is Harsh spoken like a true hater
Man that hit hard. Heart hurts. Especially the beginning when Kobe spoke about pau. Pau gasol well deserved retired jersey. Very quite humble underrated player that can ball out.
HISTORY. As a spaniard, this is a truly special moment for all of us. Seeing Pau among all those legends and recognized as one of them is... wow

One of the Greatest Lakers Of all time. 👏
The second greatest white player the Lakers had after Mark Madsen.
@@josecarranza7555 think you forgot about West 😅
@@josecarranza7555 bro you comparing that guy and Paul gasol?
@@josecarranza7555 you crazy
Mark madsen was much better
I remember when the trade went down, Kobe said this is the year to win the chip. Although they didn’t win, it still resulted into 2 chips. A class act and truly long overdue!! Love ya Pau
You remember the buzz when the trade went down? Laker Nation was so hyped about it, there was a different feeling in the air that day when the Lakers acquired pau gasol. Greatest time to be a laker fan I miss the old good laker days.
@@ohhhyeahhh1174 all I could remember was Stephen A calling KWAME BROWN A SCRUB and that the Lakers fleeced Memphis
TNT did him dirty by not showing the whole ceremony
Nope you wrong
Crying while watching this, never was a laker fan, but Kobe and Pao were my childhood growing up, their brotherhood inspired me.
I'm a die hard Knicks fan and I absolutely love Pau Gasol and his game. He was truly an underrated player at his position. Dude can straight up ball. Glad the Lakers honored him with this.

Congrats to Pau Gasol. Rest in Peace Kobe Bryant!
Born 1990's, I grew up watching him playing on his prime .. Seeing him retire makes me feel sad and old at the same time but full of heart since he really deserved all of it..
Lakers wouldn't win that back to back chip without him.
Damn this gave me chills! Rest easy Bean 💜💛
As a diehard lakers fan Pau gasol is one of my favorite lakers players of all time he was really important to our repeat championship run with Kobe Bryant💜💛.
Kobe may not be here in person but he's here in spirit. Proud of his brother Pau. Gracias Pau 💜💛
Congrats Pau and his family. True champion and class act. RIP Kobe and Gigi, much love and well deserved.
Kobe told him his jersey would be in the rafters💜💛
As a Magic fan, it was an honor to lose to Kobe and Gasol in the 2009 finals. Congrats Pau
Pau was a great player before coming to LA but he became a Laker great when in the 2nd finals series against the Celtics he stepped up his intensity, focus and toughness. The game asked him to step up and he answered the call. He's totally deserves that honor, he worked hard and executed for it.
GRANDEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!
Kobe should’ve been here for it. He never would’ve gotten those 2 rings without Pau. So happy for Pau, at least Kobe is there in spirit. RIP Kobe 💜💛
What a great guy! Pau is definitely one of the most underrated players in the NBA. He hustled every game like Kobe did. He played every game like it was his last. Thank you Pau for the 2 championships.
"to those who much is given, much is expected.." wow that's beautifully humble for someone so rich and famous especially
Didn’t know he was also a UNICEF ambassador. What a class act. Beautiful human being, this man is. Thank you, Pau!
I’m so glad I was able to cheer this man on during his tenure in Chicago. What a great player, person, and soul
Congrats to Pau Gasol!!
I remember watching those championship teams back in the day and so proud we can look back with fond memories. What a class act Pau has always been and I love his continued friendship with Vanessa even after we lost Kobe. Congrats my dude, you deserve to be among Laker legends
Such a great man!! I will never forget the love he brought to the Lakers!! MANNN!! What a time to be alive and witness💜
Seeing a message from one your best friends who is a legend at your best moment now you are legend too and next to him after he is gone? That is a whole week and years of crying.
Awesome night. Fantastic speech. Hell of a player. Bittersweet, but him and Kobe will be together forever in the rafters
Pau gave up being a doctor to chase his dream and was able to play at the highest level in one of the greatest franchises
Man i miss those times back in 2009 watching kobe and pau winning games and those 2 rings congrats to pau
Take me back to those simpler times
That front court of gasol bynum and odom was insane. Always 2 talented bigs on the court at all times
Made me shed a tear and realize how blessed I was to have watch these great memories of him and Kobe and made me realize how much I miss Kobe 😢
