  • @raghunathRamaswamy
    @raghunathRamaswamy 3 года назад +53

    Another lovely interview. Gavaskar is so genuine, especially when he says how liberated after he started batting with Cheeka. While Gavaskar did the famous act of 36 not out in 60 overs, to the utter dismay of the viewers in 1975, the same Gavaskar in his penultimate World Cup appearance in 1987, tore the Kiwi attack apart along with Cheeka and Sidhu, won with several overs to spare, in true T20 style. That a purist , who can leave the outside the off-stump balls with the concentration of a sage, can reinvent himself, is something for all of us to introspect. Thanks, once again, Ashwin.

    The greatest thing about Gavaskar was that even when helmets were available he chose not to wear one, the only other guy who did that was Viv Richards. That requires true grit, bravery and great belief in his defense. No wonder he was the first to get to 10k in tests.

    • @sarathyj
      @sarathyj 3 года назад +7

      Not only that, he opened the innings, not knowing how the pitch behaves and the movement and bounce. Viv came at 2 down, and so did Sachin. Gavaskar single handedly put India on the cricket map. When India was just 25 years out of Independence Gavaskar elevated every Indian to take pride and not bow down. If Cricket is religion in India, then Gavaskar is the God. The Sachins and Kohlis are equally good, but they stand on Gavaskar's shoulders. He IS the foundation of Indian batting.

    One of the BEST interviews I have ever seen, both the interviewer and the interviewee. Straight up honest and straight from the heart. For some of us, it was a sheer delight to watch Sunny on a winter afternoon with 80,000 roaring fans in Eden Gardens in the '70's, exquisitely square-cutting. That was style, which I have never seen in anyone later. Sunil Gavaskar is still my hero. There are other players who may have scored more runs than him, but the style, elan and non-chalance with which he cracked Dennis Lillee playing for the Rest of the World in 1974, is unparalleled in the history of at least the Indian cricket.

And his thought processes are so crystal clear about the game and how it should be played. It was very clear that this was an interview by not just a fanboy - it was more like a Guru-Sishya conversation. I was glad to hear about Gavaskar's opinion on the non-striker run out and I agree with him that the usage of Mankad's name with that dismissal should be stopped. With all due respects to the little Master, during his playing days with his conflicts with Kapil, he said "if a cricketer says he is playing for his country, you should take it, not with a pinch of salt but buckets of salt" and yet here he is describing that as the greatest reward.

    Here are two simple, uncomplicated and honest people sharing their views on this great game of cricket! Very very interesting and engrossing! You have taken this interview along very well, Ashwin! And the calypso song on sunny went like this ,” we couldn’t out gavaskar, man, we couldn’t “. It was pretty famous those days!

    Interviews like this have much more credibility because a legend is being interviewed by a highly successful sportsperson. Nothing impresses like success.

    Ash I am your big fan not because all the wickets you have taken or runs you have scored but the way you talk about the cricket and the way you describe cricket it shows your education level. Big shout out to your dad and mom for bringing you up in such a way. I love the way you respect your predecessor

    At 42, I can say I have watched all matches and all videos of Ashwin available on internet. If I feel this is an achievement, just imagine the greatness of the player and entertainer who does all the actual hard work. Romba proud of Ashwin Sir for his contribution to world cricket. Cannot wait when Ashwin is on the right hand side and another great cricketer is interviewing Ashwin and he starts ...those days...

    We enjoyed throughout the lengthy interview. Nice questions and so very. Impressive answers. Sri. S.G is an orthodox excellent batsman. We were so crazy that whenever India bats we use sit before Radio till S.G gets out. It was a pleasure to see & hear the conversation. He referred to 3 or 4 thoughtful pieces of information. A true legend always prove himself. Congrats, Continue your interviews like this !

    Dear Ashwin, I have been following your chats. Chaalaa Baagunnaayi. This one with Little Master is out standing . The way he supported that run out (I don't like to call Mankading) incidence in IPL is really admirable. I totally support your action when the bats man tried to take undue advantage . I love and like the way you respect and reciprocate with the people at the other end. Please keep on doing this. God bless you with many more achievements and mile stones ahead.
