Thanks for reminding me. That song is an audible meltdown, and abandoned person and vulnerability . You would have to be void of a heart and or a soul to not allow to fill you. What kind of song might actually even sound better if you close your eyes with me that’s a little bit difficult since I’m prone to crying a lot especially when trapped in my adoration of the 80s. I’m not a psycho. I’m just trying to make light of admittedly being trapped if not willingly residing in the 80s. Thank God a lot of my friends feel the same way. 🫶

Indeed. 80s rock, Ronald Reagan, a secure career, loving wife and precious little kids, working and living where I'd dreamed of working and living, the 80s were a dream come true - really. Haven't experienced anything like it since. I grew up with 60s rock, which in terms of its output and the number of talented bands popping up literally everywhere was absolutely unmatched -- even though we could've done without all the tumult going on across the nation. While I can look back on the 70s and still pick out plenty of good songs from that decade, as a nation we were sorta lost and burned out, and so I considered most POP music in the 70s unimaginative. Thank God for progressive rock; that tided me over until the 80s, which as a magical decade for music and an "era of good feelings."
Music is not about talent and art anymore, just money money money, everything in this world is about money, very sad time, miss the 80s, 90s, and the 2000s❤️🤘
Big market, mass media music it could be said. But there will always be musicians who play for the love of music. There will always be tons of musicians who put out great music that few will hear. You Tube has plenty of fine musicians that will never make it big, yet are better than their mass media counterparts.
Sounds great with headphones. This screams the 80's. I was 23 when this came out and it was on the Juke box at the bar I worked at as a cocktail waitress. It was constantly playing along with The Talking Heads "Burning Down The House". It was a great place to work for a 23 year old. Working, drinking, shooting pool and constant music. Seems like a lifetime ago.
***** I would like to go back to the mid 70's. We should have some kind of time transport bus and drop people off at the year of their choice. I wonder how many people wouldn't be on the bus for the return trip back to this wonderful time we currently live in? So much has changed as have the people.

"It was about looking at your own life, not so much about amassing material things but about experiences that lend you to be blissful... The song was written from the point of view of the release you get when you have nothing left to lose. It’s sort of a meditation. It clears your head of all fears and panics and illusions and you get back to the basics, which is a Buddhist mantra, which I practiced back then, and which I still do. The idea of the song is how great it is to get back to zero." -Cy Cumin
Very keen insight. Incredibly so. I imagine you are doing quite well if you knew that then and hadn't forgotten. Your insight makes me feel seen. Thanks for that.
I remember K town I think the bus stopped there on the way to the red light district in Frankfort lol. You are right From England to Amsterdam 80's in Europe were a blast..
I remember this song sitting at the TV and playing joust, pitfall and phoenix on my Atari 2600. The beach, summer, the excitement of life in general. Great times!
Yeah, video games have come a long way. I think Joust, Asteroids, Missile Command, Pac Man, Bezerk all were played until I flipped the score so high that it would just restart to zero, but still be on the highest level of difficulty. So in a way, you can say that I was "Saved By Zero" because I would have been playing those games forever and wouldn't have taken the time to play outside. ;) If only the 80s could just be an infinite loop like those video games.....sigh

I grew up in Chicago during this time and even the house djs back then would play this on the radio and in the clubs. Even till this day you still have many of the true house creator djs from Chicago who will from time to time re-edit these classics. One of my favorite cuts indeed.
the early 80s people saw an eery, post-apocalyptic, sleek, monolithic vision of the future, so far ahead of its time that it never truly came to be. looking back now, its like a collective dream everyone had and were looking to express. this song/video really does a good job of encapsulating that otherworldly aesthetic.
There is definitely a mood that is evoked, at least for me. Several songs come to mind.. of course the Fixx but also earlier Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode, Naked Eyes, Talk Talk, Heaven 17, Duran Duran.. Thomas Dolby "One of our Submarines".. layer upon layer of synths and effects creating this warm yet distant and dark feeling. Totally lost today!

Still with the same woman for 35 years, true soul-mate.
... wouldn't change a damn thing! That's a W dude. 👍
One of my fave 80s songs! I could list so many bands from the 80s I'll remember forever! Best era of music ever!❤
great song so privileged to have grown up in the 80s and have to experienced them also
Does anyone else get chills from this song
DarkBaby Wands Yes...dancing to this song...such lovely words...in so many ways.Hello my friend
DarkBaby Wands...yes I do, I love it because of the synth lines...great!!! John K.
Thanks guys 💋

Music is not about talent and art anymore, just money money money, everything in this world is about money, very sad time, miss the 80s, 90s, and the 2000s❤️🤘
Big market, mass media music it could be said. But there will always be musicians who play for the love of music. There will always be tons of musicians who put out great music that few will hear. You Tube has plenty of fine musicians that will never make it big, yet are better than their mass media counterparts.
I was in a pizza shop last night and this masterpiece I've loved since I was a teen, came on television..I'm in love all over again with the 80s.
I hear ya brother. Sometimes we just need to be reminded.
Funny how this song has longevity. After all these years it still has that affect on me. You may have stumbled onto something.
A classic from the 80s you never hear
80s.. We're great music and I still listen to the 80s music 🍺🎙🎃🤘
Love it. I was 15 in 1983. Omg i wanna go back. The 80's were so great!

Alot of good memories of the 80s. The message in this song is to be ready for anything & to be self sufficient!
The 80's was the best decade for music ever. I can listen to songs like this for hours and hours.
80😀
And movies.
this is a f a c t
I still prefer the 70's but 80's was great too.
No lies
Sounds great with headphones. This screams the 80's. I was 23 when this came out and it was on the Juke box at the bar I worked at as a cocktail waitress. It was constantly playing along with The Talking Heads "Burning Down The House". It was a great place to work for a 23 year old. Working, drinking, shooting pool and constant music. Seems like a lifetime ago.
MissDistarr60 was 20 i feel the same ..... went to see them twice live...
MissDistarr60 I wish I could gob back to 1983 for a week or two.
***** I would like to go back to the mid 70's. We should have some kind of time transport bus and drop people off at the year of their choice. I wonder how many people wouldn't be on the bus for the return trip back to this wonderful time we currently live in? So much has changed as have the people.
MissDistarr60 EXACTLY WE NOW LIVE THE CHEMTRAILS AND CONTANT TV HOAXES FROM KENNEDY being murdered (junglesurfer&dave j)to the bogus space shuttle challenger blowing up NOBODY DIED!!
***** It is indeed. And the memories come flooding back in a matter of seconds. Nothing can bring back the memories of our youth like music. And it does so in a matter of seconds and they are so vivid. Music is one of man's best creations of all time. This is one that we got spot on!
Early to late 80's were a great time.
Early to late 60's were also a great time.
@@rockyjonesspacecadet7089 Haha. And all you 60's childs loved the 80's too. You know you did.
Yep, the times changed just as the decade began and then exploded with the creation of MTV. There was 3 sections of the 80's. Early, Mid and Late.
@@surfshack2 Love 80's music yes..
What a great song. Great time to be alive
I remember when this came out, Love this album.
I love the flow of this song.
Love this song and won’t ever forget it. Traveling back in time reliving good memories. We won’t ever forget the awesome 80s era.
As a teen of the 80s music like this just brings back so many many many memories. Some good some bad... But I'll forever miss the big 80s hair 💆🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️. Well my lungs might miss the hairspray fumes and my wallet might miss the freezing spray case cost... But hey I would go back ANY DAY!
Amen, sister Janet! As long as you take me along! [I'm a tiny bit embarassed to admit it around certain people, but sometimes I do miss my awesome Strawberry-blonde mullet that framed my face in the 80s! ;-)
When I die put me in the 80's
ROCK those legwarmers, girl! ;)
@@billyknott8079 - I've always thought that growing up in the 80's as a teenager or twenty-something was a foretaste of heaven.
If only I would have known then what I know now. Graduated in '84.
Saw these guys at Hollywood Park in 83 at the last Police concert. They were amazing. Thompson Twins played with them. AMAZING concert.
So grateful that The Fixx can put my feelings into words.
....did you hit rock bottom baby? are you going places? we should have dinna, I'll show you how to never hit rock bottom again, but you won't call, you never will, and you'll be reading this at zero forevur.
@@zdavidzz bro what 💀
"It was about looking at your own life, not so much about amassing material things but about experiences that lend you to be blissful...
I love this; thank you so much for sharing.
Very keen insight. Incredibly so. I imagine you are doing quite well if you knew that then and hadn't forgotten. Your insight makes me feel seen. Thanks for that.
I took it to mean, nobody is there to save you. Thanks for the insight.
Very interesting interpretation
Absolutely correct.
when this song was popular,,, it was the best time of my life. Great song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks for your post, that is how I feel...I was a young teen in the eighties, all these great hits full of passion...I miss them all...
I'll never forget my first skateboard. It was called the "Radd Ratt" like the band.
Mine as well.
Oh Yes! Remember when this masterpiece came out. Early 80s. When music DIDN’T SUCK!
One of the most underated songs
I haven't heard this since the 80's - love it ♥️
When I need a quick fix! Listen to The Fixx........Undeniably their Best!
the FIXX i loved this group!!
Still goes hard in 2024 🔥
I am so glad I found this song. Long live the 80s
Was living in Zweibrucken Germany when this song came out. 1983 was a fun year!
the 80's were a blast in Europe. I was in K town at the time.
I remember K town I think the bus stopped there on the way to the red light district in Frankfort lol. You are right From England to Amsterdam 80's in Europe were a blast..
Colman Kaserne Gelnhausen 4/18 infantry!
I was in England at Woodbridge RAF. I miss England and going over to Germany, every 6 months.
1983 was a fun year but also a very dangerous year. Luckily it ended quietly instead of in an apocalyptic nuclear war.
Very cool riffs. Definitely one of the edgier 80's bands.
Probably one of THE most beautiful pieces of music ever created. I don't know what the lyrics pertain to, but the music is emotional beyond words.
It is about the movie Tron.😊
Falling in love in 80s is for forever....
Brings back beautiful memories *
Yeah me too.
Hi Don, Lauren, from California have a nice weekend*
Lauren Wallace severence
Great song.
Woodstock, England*
I remember this song sitting at the TV and playing joust, pitfall and phoenix on my Atari 2600. The beach, summer, the excitement of life in general. Great times!
+michor10 Ya THE BEACH_Summer!
MTV ausome 80s care free
couldn't have said it any better my friend the memories and those games great post
Wow you brought back ALL the memories!
It's been a long long time since I've heard this song. Brings back memories of being 16 and here I am 54. It sounds cliche but time sure does fly. That was back when pop music was actually real music.
Mad tv ms swan he look like a man
Agree with you. I am 58 and this music never gets old.
the first three fixx albums are totally 80s-awesome... "shuttered rooms", "reach the beach", and "phantoms"... well worth adding to your collection. and totally cat-approved :)...
Here I am 45 but remember when I was 5
It does
Still listening in 2023!!🍻🍻🍻
One of the best 80s basslines ever. Amazing synth work as well.
It's kind of the guitar hook that stands out. The tone on that guitar is incredibly unique on this and many other Fixx songs.
Stop the Philosophical Zombies The guitar sound was so distinct. Could hear it’s influence for years.
1983. I was 12 years old. I still remember this song like it was yesterday. Music was so good back then. Same with MTV
Great memories. I just can't get enough of this generation
One of my favorite 80’a songs.. and you really rarely hear it.
great song of all times
I was in college at Western Illinois University when I saw The Fixx in concert back in 1983. They Rocked back then and they still Rock today and I a 56 years old!
No doubt, the FIxx are a cool band. Cy Curin
56 is a great age. But only for another 2 months for me. FIXX was a giant and still are somewhat.
Curly Q. Link love the fixx

I meet the Cy in the late 90’s after a outdoor concert in Las Vegas. I had dropped my cell phone and waited for crowd to leave to look for it, the band came out from the side stage and I got Cy’s autograph and took a picture with him. Coolest dude ever 😎
Cu is the most important musician / The FiXX underrated of the 80,s!
This song defines the 80's. Brilliant band!
It takes you back to 1982.
The 80s were the best time of my life. Awesome song from the fixx
I grew up in Chicago during this time and even the house djs back then would play this on the radio and in the clubs. Even till this day you still have many of the true house creator djs from Chicago who will from time to time re-edit these classics. One of my favorite cuts indeed.
When WLS played music.
the early 80s people saw an eery, post-apocalyptic, sleek, monolithic vision of the future, so far ahead of its time that it never truly came to be. looking back now, its like a collective dream everyone had and were looking to express. this song/video really does a good job of encapsulating that otherworldly aesthetic.
Very well put king green
This is a great track for listening to whilst jogging.....yes, it has that "other-worldly" feel to it...
This is so true!
Very well put!
Awesome, send me back to the 80's
Man I miss the 80's
Very beautiful music. Love it!

Damn…just seems like yesterday when this tune came out
The 80's, when individuality was celebrated, respected, and allowed. 💯😎👍
Individuality? Big hair, tons of bright makeup and shoulder pads. Nah not as individual as you remember
1983........ One UNFORGETTABLE YEAR......!!!!!!!!!
They had such a unique sound...
+Give it up for Jackson Heights own, Mr. Randy Watson Lol. Randy! You all are so beautiful, give yourself some applause.
drakg002 that boy good!
Richard Henry causedagreatest! Love of all inside of meeeehee yeah, yeah, yeaaah.Thank you very much!!
Nah. That was all the 80s with the unique sound. Just the sound of the 80s. That's why it's missed so much.
thumbed up for comment and name lol
Listened to this on the school bus.
Still love this awesome 80s song
This song always evokes a strong emotional response from me. Don't know why. Keep coming back too it.
And to think right now some kid is listening to Five Finger Death Punch...Thank GOD I grew up in the 80's!
Keith Bartholomew....yeah, no shit...Five Finger Death Punch..WTF???? Yeah, I admit...I am in my sixties and yes...the '80's were the most creative and well loved music, hand-down!!! John K.
