I’m eternally impressed how much procreate gives for such a fair price. The fact that they keep improving it and I get the benefits from that despite the fact that I paid for it once like two years ago is mind boggling. So many programs are subscription based nowadays. . .
I HATE people that HATE other people. The comment I respond to did not spread HATE. That is good. BUT! I get a lot of HATE comments on my amazing videos and I HATE it. Please don't start spreading HATE. Do I have to HATE you too, dear Gm
Couldn't agree more. Aside from Procreate, I really love Clip Studio Paint. Now, on PC, CSP is a one time purchase. Which is great. However, I mainly use my iPad and for some reason it's a subscription on there. It really is a shame. Probably one of the only subscriptions I'd really want to keep and use.
@@AxxLAfriku well im sorry dear sir but I hate your odd comments, please respectfully screw off.
I use Krita, which is free. Is krita worse in any way?
Don’t give them any ideas
Procreate is probably the best simplest animation I’ve ever experienced and I prefer it a lot more when I do quick simple loop animations. Very fun!
Needs a change of name though
Flipnote :(
@@ShockingPikachu That's limited to DSi/3DS. I don't think many people carry those nowadays.
Ikr
I've done a full animatic!!!!
Procreate’s animation tool is really, *really* good for gifs. Though you can do actual animation, it’s limiting at times and you can only go so far. But for short, looping animations? It’s perfect.
Exactly my thoughts
But there is a way to animate more, I've seen it on tiktok
@@umar_patell8520 like I said, you definitely can do full animation; and to bypass layer limits, you can make separate canvases and combine them afterwards in a video editing app; but it does take a lot of time and is pretty frustrating.
Procreate would also be great for storyboarding and animatics though, since they don’t require many layers per frame, and in general have less fps and more holds
I have a question, can you draw the frames in callipeg and then import it to procreate to colour i? That way you can do better animations in ipad right??
I guess my question is: which animation software ISN’T frustrating? I have whole movies inside my head that I want to create, but sometimes it feels like I’m spinning my wheels. Blender is way too convoluted and slow for me. And I want to animate in 2D, not 3D unless it’s for VR. Procreate would be easier and faster for me than Blender. But Maya is insanely expensive, right? And I’ve got an iPad Pro and a PC with a Wacom intuos 3. I love painting on my iPad more than anything. It’s the most user friendly art process to me. My intuos was nice enough, but it feels like painting with a pen mouse rather than actually painting. Am I going to need a Cintiq and a subscription to something?
I just wanted to add, that you get more 'frames' depending on the size of your canvas! Procreate limits how many layers you have depending on the size of your canvas for file size reasons. The bigger the canvas, the less layers, and therefore less frames to use. For example, a 1000 x 1000 size canvas lets you have 263 layers, and therefore 263 frames.
Plus, if you did want to make longer animations, you could simply make a full animation with all the frames you have available, create a new canvas with the same dimensions, import in the previous background or foreground layers if you need to, the last frame you had drawn, and continue on from there. You can then combine them together outside the program.
Yeah that’s why I think it is possible to animate professionally in procreate if u don’t have animate
Finally. Someone who speaks English.
Plus don’t people already save scenes separately from the main projects for editing sakes? I mean you don’t always have everything in the same page… right? Idk. Depends on your style.
I have a question, can you draw the frames in callipeg and then import it to procreate to colour i? That way you can do better animations in ipad right??
@@tausif9838 I've never done/tried that but I would assume it would work! You can import images into procreate. You can even import premade gifs of stuff and it splits it into frames (as many as it can handle for the size). So I would assume that works!
I had to animate a little three minutes clip for school and I don't have access to animating programs, so I drew every single frame as layers in a free digital painting app, saved each layer separately, than put them in a video editing app and sped the whole thing up so each image would last a fraction of a second until it went as smooth as I could get it in a three days deadline.I feel like an idiot.
Work harder, not smarter
Don't feel like an idiot, that was such a genius solution to your problem!
I mean, hey, you did it
Can we see the video?
Why doesn't your school provide the tools for the assignments they want you to do?
I use procreate to make animatics for things that I don’t want to do a whole smooth animation for and it works great!
how do u do it w/o audio?
@@psycless i use the iPad's split screen feature to sync up with youtube audio. It can be a bit fidgety, but nothing that can't be fixed in post. Ive made two full animatics.
To clarify the layer limitation thing, Procreate has that even on regular artworks. It’s not a hard limit on animation itself. It’s a limit regarding canvas size. So, smaller canvases get more layers / frames, and larger canvases get less layers / frames. Most people won’t be animating a full 4k show on Procreate, so you can get more length in your animations by making sure your canvas size is optimized to what you’re making rather than drawing on an overly large canvas like we’re taught to do on other traditional PC programs.
Also, another interesting thing you could do is just editing all the animations you did into one using a video editor.
@@Rain_bootthere is a problem with that, watermarks
A bit of a tip about Procreate's layer/Frame Cap. It's dependent on the tablet size (GB vs TB) and the size of file. If the file is huge on say a 125 GB tablet (the one I have) It sometimes only do 6 layers. But if I have the sized file on a TB tablet, I can actually do more layers with it. That was probably the biggest learning curve for me when using Procreate to make more professional stuff that I've been making.
Its about the processor, not the ssd. So pros are better for it than say the regular ipads. Nothing to do with amount of memory
procreate caps layers based on ram, not storage
It's also dependent on the canvas size. A smaller canvas can have more layers (if i recall).
It’s based on ram. (For iPads at least)
It’s based on RAM. You can see that in the iPad Pro’s. The layer limit on the 128,256 and 512gb are on 8 and the 1 and 2 Tb have 16. Seeing as that’s the only differentiating factor, it’s an easy deduction. Also it’s even reported by procreate that the layer limit is RAM dependant.
Procreate is great! It's constantly improving and its a one time purchase :) unlike other apps that require a subscription >:(
TIP: The amount of layers/frames you can have depends on the dimensions of each frame. If you have a overall high resolution, there will be less frames/layers you can have
YES! I hope Jazza can see the tip
I'm excited because I think with new Ipads they will make it so you can have a lot more frames
Is it possible to do adobe level animation in ipad??
I was thinking that if i make line art animation in callipeg and then just import it to procreate to colour it it can make good animations right??
@@tausif9838 basically yes. But I don't know how to import the frames to procreate.
@@jax99888 oh so we cant do that ....
Well, short animations would be good for YT shorts or TikTok. Or, the first thing I thought of was to make multiple 6 or 8 second animations and connect them into one longer video using another app.
I've been on a Jazza high for the past few days, and I'd just like to say: Jazza has truly made my days better. I mean, sure. If I didn't binge Jazza all day I'd find another RUclipsr to binge, but I *did* start to binge Jazza, and my days have been more joyful and so much better.
Now that’s a back handed compliment if I ever saw one.
Could have just said-
“You’re replaceable jazza”
@@wellhellothereagain it's 5 in the morning and I haven't slept. I'm not good at the words stuff rn
@@LeakyTrees lol all good. It was honest.
I can respect that
Same thing happened to me, and didn’t realized I have been hooked for four year
My first semester of animation in school was done all essentially on procreate. I lived an hour away from my school labs. Procreate single handedly saved my grade (it was during covid too so we weren’t even on campus all but 1-2 days a week). What I made wasn’t good for my assignments but it was passable.
Working with procreate’s animation feature really is best for gifs/simple looping animations versus types of animations that you’d do in Harmony.
If you want to make a long animation, you can do this thing where you kind of copy the last frame, then go to the new canvas, paste it, and continue the animation. When wanting to put it all together just save them all, go into an editing program, and put them all in :) hope this helps
I figured, This is the way.
To add to your realization around frame/ layer limits, it actually all depend on your canvas size. If you reduced the canvas size and or resolution, you can gain many more frames/ layers.
When it comes to animation in procreate it is best to think animated gifs with a defined style or clean look, and or short mp4 clips. The biggest limitation is the RAM of the iPad you are using.
If they ever get around to making available on desktop, then it has serious potential as a pro-level, hand-drawn animation tool. Also, if you go Wrench > Canvas Information > Layers, it will tell you how many layers your document is limited to.
It makes me so happy how full circle this is, from watching you animate in adobe when I was in middle school thinking I could never animate anything no matter how hard I tried to now watching you explore animation in procreate after having already done animations in the app for my senior project in college this year.
1 year plus later….we are having PROCREATE DREAMS…..I bet you will be thrilled to know a well robust animation app is coming to iPad from procreate guys. I’m so hyped!
Congrats on season 2! I love how you cover everything in art, animation, sculpture, drawing, role-play. Personally I think an animated dragon would be the coolest, photoshop, procreate, heck even a flipbook would be awesome!!
I started using procreate about 3 weeks ago and Ive found it so challenging to learn how to do a lot of basic things like delete a layer. This is my first apple product.
Can you animate on Procreate?
Me and a lot of my animator friends before we watch the video: Yes, yes you can.
It looks amazing btw, good job!
I love this app! So many tools in a small versatile set up!
Depending on the size of your canvas in the app, you can have more layers. The smaller you go, the more frames you can have.
It’s a very good option for beginners. Since it’s very limiting there’s some things I couldn’t do, but it’s such a good program for a more simple animation
I had to leave halfway through the Reboot episode this morning, I can't wait to hear how the rest of it went! Even if you don't care anything for role-playing, i still recommend you check it out. It's so great to listen to as I get through my chores.
I use procreate for all my animation and despite the limitations I get a lot done and faster than on a pc. If there needs to be any camera movements I either use rough animator or Adobe animate.
I always felt overwhelmed tho start. I’ve been using procreate as my bread and butter to draw, but finally decided to get my feet wet, slowly to learn the basics of animation and applying them as I go.
Talk about the perfect medium and program for the subject matter. Using Procreate to create Pr0. *chef's kiss* 🤩😍
Honestly, for animatic this is pretty good to brainstorm some ideas, and, for making GIFs it’s actually perfect
You always have a lot of interesting ideas, I don’t know where you get so much enthusiasm, I will draw quietly, very boring, you are very good at sharing, always full of enthusiasm, and the content of the painting is also full of dynamics, it’s great Yes, thanks for sharing!
He is like “and I am pretty impressed, that pro create can animate.”
His niece: 😢
This is how I make all of my 2d animations for my channel! I love using procreate for it!! It’s be cool if they added some kind of bones system too though!!
The layer limit actually changes based on your canvas size! So different canvases can produce longer animations! Also I feel like procreate is such an amazing program that gives you so much for a one time payment. It’s so great when it comes to simple short animation, or storyboarding, and a bunch of other stuff.
Another amazing video from Jazza! Brightens my night ❤️
It’s definitely a useful tool when you need a simple animation for a business
Can you try learning pen/pencil tricks :) like spin the pen on your hand and do flips and that sort of thing! ps. Love your creativity and your range of things you can do, and they always come out awesome! Thank you Jazza!
2:44 Jazza, the amount of frames you can have depend on how big your canvas is. The same applies to normal drawing too
hey do u know which size gets the most layers? trying to start animating but need more
@@circe2258 I guess the smaller your canvas is, the more frames/layers you have, but the quality of your animation will also decrease (less pixels in the canvas). Not an expert on this subject but I would recommend 1047 px to 843 px (300 layers) for short animations, but if you’re making a longer one, you can split your work into multiple canvases and edit them together in another app (e.g. iMovie).
If Jazza didn't know about the animation, then he was living under a ROCK!!
I’ve honestly been wondering if you’d do a video on procreate animation!!!
The animations I make on my channel are all on procreate, it truly is a fantastic art program for the price it has. Also, procreate is limited in certain areas, however to me the only limitation is not being able to have the music right with my animation. Plus, the layers issue can be fixed by piecing animations together using editor software. So I don’t see many limits! I really would love to see you mess around with procreate animations again, and challenge yourself to make more stickman fight scenes!!! It’s always fun to see you mess with different materials and crafts, but it’s much more fun to watch something I’m familiar with and see what you come up with :D
Still though, fantastic animation. Keep up the fantastic and humorous content!
Nikolai Lockertsen does some very impressive stuff with this
Jazza make a song for 6 million subscribers 💛
I know you got It in you lol (:
You can also animate in photoshop by creating new artboards.
Love your videos! Would love to see you sculpt your old character designs!😊
Procreate animation assist isn’t a full blown animator, it is to assist the animation. People normally use the tool to make gifs. Btw if you want more frames just change the DPI to be lower in the canvas settings
Jazza going to his team to show them his professionally done animation doesn’t feel like a professional talking to other professionals, it feels like a child showing his parents his crayon drawing he did in class.
Jazza to get a frame to be a background u just have to hold down the frame and select it…
Yesssss you found ittttt
I really love your videos. Been here since 2012!
I love REBOOT, i've watched all of season 1, but all this month i have my finals exam, so i am waiting for my exams to be over to watch REBOOT.....
I've actually made procreate animatics for school projects and its so tedious and difficult. This'll be interesting
I use Procreate Animations to create walk cycles, idle animations, jump animations, coins spinning and whatever for my video games. It works really well
I’ve been animating in procreate for a while now, it’s heaps of fun!
I love animating on procreat it is so fun 🤩
I am here after 6 years
in 2016-17 I came across your channel and you were the inspiration I got for art n drawing along with art attack and mister maker
Now I think it was the best thing that happened to me !! Thanks a lot for this amazzzing video 🤗💫
This was really good, I'd be really interested in you animating in Photoshop, definitely :)
Funny how jazza can create such good vids with basic ideas
Yes! He’s making more procreate content!
Finally! I really wanted a video on this!
Looks like a great tool for short gif animations of high quality.
I enjoyed the live stream. Let's see why those bar pieces can be moved independently. Bar brawl anyone?
I use procreate mostly just to animate simple shapes to sort of bring images to life, but I'll confess I did not know you could set the first and last layers as background and foreground! That's a bit of a game changer. I do most of my work in Ae (being a motion graphics designer) but it's fun to dabble in frame animation with a tool I already have on a device I can take with me wherever I go.
I don't think I have seen a clearer example of how Jazza's mind works. Instead of googling 'how many frames can it animate maximum' he pressed the new frame button 183 times to find the answer himself.
Honestly, I'm the same.
Man this reminds me of the old jazza tutorials. Anything animation related with jazza is always top notch.
Layer limit also depends on canvas size, if u use a really small canvas u can have a thousand frames but large canvas might limit u to only 20
EDIT: when making a new canvas if its a custom size it will show the maximum number of layers
Impressive, once again. I have no idea what reboot is, but now I’m going to go check it out! Hope you had fun with this, it was great to watch!
Despite the frame limit(which I assume is in place so that the program doesn’t take a massive lag hit(probably because it already has a large amount of data it’s working with)), you could copy your end frame and continue it on another file, so even tho you can’t immediately check your previous frames, you can link them together and make a relatively long animation(even if it is a haste to do so)
The jazz cartoon that you drew in the first minute really looks like you but in your art form I think you really nailed your OC
2:50 the procreate layer limitation depends on your canvas size- the larger your canvas, the fewer layers you get
oh someone already said this in a more detailed way LMFAO but as a basis you have to balance your canvas size with the amount of layers you need
These videos are so good I legitimately just finished watching the last one
Hey Jazza. I would love to see your thoughts on Krita as a digital art program and animation tool.
Keep up the awesome work 🥰
As someone who is really new to digital art, Procreate has been a great starter, and at an affordable price too. I think that has been part of the reason I love it. Still don’t know a lot on all the features so I’d love to see more content Jazza with Procreate.
challenge suggestion - sketch as many popular cartoons as you can remember in 5 minutes. you get 1 point for every character somebody else is able to recognize.
Everytime he comes up with a character and it has such a detailed backstory I always know it is from table top. It is too flushed out to be a random one off character he just came up with on the fly. I have seen him do that before and it is great. I am still looking forward to one day having that mutant boy story published though. I don't hate it.
Used to watch you back three years ago, stopped just because. Coming back and I love it, do more procreate?
Procreate is one of my favs for simple animation.. roller coaster anyone? Let’s go jazza 🖌
I'm a beginner with animation, and I love Procreate on my iPad because it's mobile, and I can easily pull it out and practice wherever I am.
thank you so much for making this video i have been searching when i can the past few months to figure this out. this helps so much
I've made my first animation with procreate, it was amazing 10/10 would recommend it
I used it for RUclips/twitch live things like waiting screens, and ambiance music images as well
I found this out awhile ago, it’s so fun!
this is cool!
Me and my son have done a bouncing ball and a rocking pendulum. Nothing as impressive as yours.
We were using as a virtual flip book, but when uni is over for the year, i'll have some time to play with it again!
Yes have been waiting ever since your first Procreate drawing vid
This is how I make all of my 2d animations for my channel! I love using procreate for it!! It’s be cool if they added some kind of bones system too though!!
Yes more procreate i use this all the time its really fun and a really good app thanks for doing more digital art its always cool
I didn’t know you could animate? Welp another video idea! Lol
YES! a new video from jazza is the best bday gift I can get!
I absolutely love Procreate! I recently used it to make a simple animation for my video intros and I’m very happy with it 👽 Your finished animation is INCREDIBLE and I love that you tied it into a RPG!
I feel like their intention for this was for making gifs and stuff and i’m so happy because i love animation and procreate is just the BEEEEST
This is how I make all of my 2d animations for my channel! And yes, procreate rocks!!
Very cool jazza! Been watching your videos since I was a kid
Same
My drawing tablet for my computer recently broke, so that sucked... but I started taking up my art more on my iPad with my first gen apple pencil, and found this feature out a while ago. I would've clicked on this video sooner but its cool your checking out the software too!
I think Jazza should do another animation challenge through Blender. It's free and Netflix has used it to animate some of their recent works.
Yesss finallllyyyyy !!! I was waiting for this for years!
thanks for another upload jazza!
You absolutely killed it 🫡
logo animation is one of the best thing to look for in procreate
Animation desk is really great aswell
Draw with jazza is this generations art attack! 😍
Quite a few people have already mentioned about how the layer/frame limit is based on the canvas size but I thought I'd just give an example; for me a 4k sized canvas gives a 122 cap on layers and a 1080 canvas gives me 501. It actually tells you what the cap is when creating a new canvas size or when you edit an existing canvas.
I was hoping you'd go into the limitations on the layers themselves; procreate has the potential to be a really good animation tool but for me it's held back by the way it handles layers, having to group lines and colour in folders in the layer drop down instead of having separate lines in the timeline.
Make a huge flip book there just like this but you can can more detail and it's a lot more funner to see your finally product and just watch the 50-100 card flip book
When you resize and make a new canvas, you can see how many layers you can add within those pixel sizes
You can even record videos, and upload it to procreate and itll split the video within layers, frame by frame.
Jazza you should try making sand castles!! I think it might be a good challenge!
I really hope that procreate goes deeper into the animation features in the future. I love procreate use it all the time and animation on the go is so beneficial and nice but I’m sure there is more to add and do. I really like the sketchbook page assist they recently added that’s a really great one I didn’t even think about.
He’s finally back on the iPad! Been waiting for this one
after watching this Video and again some of your older Videos where you experiment with animation tools and Drawing Programs I thought, maybe it would be cool to see what you can do with the grease pencil in Blender ^^ I'm a 3D Artist for over 6 Years and use Blender almost all the time, but never touched the grease pencil and maybe seeing you making something with it will inspire me to do something with it ^^
There's a Pr0 and procreate joke here somewhere, but not one for RUclipss censor system...
This looked AMAZING!!! Bringing parts of Reboot to live either with animation, minis, or Fanart makes it that much easier to sink your teeth into!!
wow this was so fun and the timing was impeccable
I was getting into animating recently myself!
Jazza: what is it good for?
Me: abSoLUtELy NotHInG!
