I think its because of 2 things 1) They are limited in time so they feel like they have to cram most of their 'important questions' in and 2) They dont really want an answer. The main problem is when a bunch of people who doesn't understand how Facebook or the internet works ask seemingly intelligent questions about a very specific scenario and doesn't let him explain how things really work from top to bottom, then of course his answers will produce more questions. Besides, the information is provided by YOU. You can very simply choose to not use them. What the data collection does for Facebook and the like is to make sure they are giving you things you like. It's like going to the same cafe for the same coffee and the same muffin at the exact same time every morning. You won't be completely creeped out when you walk into the cafe and see your breakfast ready in front of you right? So since when is good service by understanding what the customer likes became "OMG you are stealing my info", you give it to them by using it. And to be fair, just use a couple VPNs and never associate your FB account to anything you do IRL nobody's gonna know that account is you. And just so you know, Google, Yahoo and Microsoft collectively has most of the world's emails ever drafted or sent stored in their servers, so your account details, your home address and all that are all stored there and if they want to abuse it, they can, and they have everything about you that's worth or not worth knowing. The advertisement service is enhanced by behavioral trends established by you personally using it, it helps targeted ads and generates reference data that can be sold to other media companies. TV stations do that already, they closely monitor how much people are watching their channel at specific periods of time and associate that with what they're airing to find out what people want to watch. Also, to make things actually work, they will have to store all the info like your posts and messeges so people can actually see your profile and other things. Now these are all the info that you choose to give them by using their service, and if you have actually read the terms and conditions (or don't nobody does really), you will know that they sell these info. That's what T&C are for, to cover up their asses legally. So what part is that not clear that if they were to provide a service, they will have to turn a profit and they will have to collect your info and sell it. So your choice is to either not use their service or deal with the fact that everyone has to collect info to make things work. And yes I do need to go out more, just fucking did 12 hours of research today in the faculty, but that's irrelevent.

I think its because of 2 things 1) They are limited in time so they feel like they have to cram most of their 'important questions' in and 2) They dont really want an answer. The main problem is when a bunch of people who doesn't understand how Facebook or the internet works ask seemingly intelligent questions about a very specific scenario and doesn't let him explain how things really work from top to bottom, then of course his answers will produce more questions.
Besides, the information is provided by YOU. You can very simply choose to not use them. What the data collection does for Facebook and the like is to make sure they are giving you things you like. It's like going to the same cafe for the same coffee and the same muffin at the exact same time every morning. You won't be completely creeped out when you walk into the cafe and see your breakfast ready in front of you right? So since when is good service by understanding what the customer likes became "OMG you are stealing my info", you give it to them by using it. And to be fair, just use a couple VPNs and never associate your FB account to anything you do IRL nobody's gonna know that account is you. That's how the internet works mate, if you don't pay for service or you don't bother reading the full terms and conditions, don't expect excellent service for free. And just so you know, Google, Yahoo and Microsoft collectively has most of the world's emails ever drafted or sent stored in their servers, so your account details, your home address and all that are all stored there and if they want to abuse it, they can, and they have everything about you that's worth or not worth knowing.

The advertisement service is enhanced by behavioral trends established by you personally using it, it helps targeted ads and generates reference data that can be sold to other media companies. TV stations do that already, they closely monitor how much people are watching their channel at specific periods of time and associate that with what they're airing to find out what people want to watch. Also, to make things actually work, they will have to store all the info like your posts and messeges so people can actually see your profile and other things. Now these are all the info that you choose to give them by using their service, and if you have actually read the terms and conditions (or don't nobody does really), you will know that they sell these info. That's what T&C are for, to cover up their asses legally. So what part is that not clear that if they were to provide a service, they will have to turn a profit and they will have to collect your info and sell it. So your choice is to either not use their service or deal with the fact that everyone has to collect info to make things work.
