I live in Tulsa and I remember when they excavated the car, it was live on the news, when they removed the concrete slab and they saw the water in there with the car everyones heart sank, you could just feel the energy in the crowd subside. Eveyone thought that the car was rusted beyond repair. But I'm glad that they were able to make the car shine again.
There is a town in Louisiana named "Waterproof". When two fishermen from the town drowned the newspaper headline read;"Two Waterproof fishermen drowned". So I doubt Miss Belvedere would have faired any better even if it had been burried in "Waterproof" Louisiana.
My uncle bought a house with a barn in the back, he went through the big barn and found a 1968 dodge charger, it was cover with piles of trash , apparently the owner forgot he had it. the owner let him have it since his only child lived in Italy.
many months have past since I started watching this video. i fear the outside world may no longer be the same as when I started watching this video. soon this video will end and I will once again go into the daylight. 72 more months have past what I thought was the end was a different story that had nothing to do with that I clicked on. i am sure all my loved ones are dead by now and i have no choice to finish watching. i didn't know the second story was unrelated until i was 18 months into it. by then it was easier to continue on and see this through. please tell them of me.
The first car I looked at to buy with my own money was a 57' Ply. Fury while in my Sr year of HS in 75. The guy wanted $50 for it. My brother took me to look at it in his 65' Ford Galaxie 500 running stock dual exhaust with glass pack mufflers and cragar rims at all 4 corners and G-60x15s on the rear. The guy showed me they car and just as he was starting it up the engine seized up. We checked the oil and the oil was like gunk. Other than my hand me down car the first car I ended actually buying was a 69' Ply Roadrunner.
Louis Laszlo that’s completely true because all the humidity from the rain went up and it rained again witch went back in the ground it ruined the car until they rebuilt it!!! And it wouldn’t have been so bad if it just rained on it!!! Most cars these days have to sit in the rain for a long time my grandmas old car sat out in the rain 15-20 years and it just had a few indinsions on the body and popped tiers!!!!
Years back I think a person was buried in a gold cadillac I remember my father talking about it when I was younger I don't know how true it is maybe you do nice video
While the '57 Belvedere was de-rusted, after ten years the car has been determined as irreparable. It is going to be displayed in an Illinois museum but it is far from perfect. The photo of the shiny "restored" Miss Belvedere in the video is not the actual car. See the link to see it at auction in 2017. www.hemmings.com/blog/2017/06/28/after-10-years-of-de-rusting-miss-belvedere-finds-new-home-in-a-museum/

the car WAS initially sealed. but there was construction near by in later years which resulted in the concrete being damaged, but it was decided that they were not going to open it up to repair it as its ment to stay closed until 2007. so it was not the 50's that ruined the car. this information is available on the websites dedicated to the car. for some reason the person who filmed this did not pick this fact up.

fordsrule35 well back then it was brand new, there was so many of them. Its like seeing a toyota prius today. Many people back then had no idea these cars would be worth anything today
NavTheGamer I saw a old one in Duncan Oklahoma about four years ago it was nice to check eBay around the Oklahoma area even Texas too you might find one
I would like to find my old car, a 1956 Ford. Hopefully it would also contain the body of the "friend" who borrowed it and never came back or was found.
Why did they show a movie of a 1956 Plymouth? And since when was Plymouth ever considered a “luxury car“? And in 1957 the tape cassette had not been invented yet. What is the point of all this?
Rodger Watt they thought it was water tight they used a new brand of concrete that was being made in the area and over time cracks started to form it happens this was a community based event to promote businesses and local products making the town closer
edwoll77 here's a story I would like to tell you. Hundreds of years ago I'm believing it was in England. A king wanted a bridge built. A Mason said I will build you that bridge King. So the king let the Mason build in a bridge. After the bridge was completed the king did not think the bridge could withstand some years. So he told the Mason I'm not going to pay you for the building of this bridge for 50 years. The Mason lived and got his money. The bridge today is still standing and a few years ago they stopped driving over it.
No... People thought those cars were a major hunk of junk even when they were new. All Chrysler products suffered that year, including Chrysler, Dodge, Imperial, Plymouth, and DeSoto. The '57 Plymouth had major MAJOR quality problems. For those who don't know, a Plymouth Belvedere was used in the movie Christine. Christine was a 1958 Plymouth Belvedere. The 1958 year had much better quality than the previous. And no, the Belvedere was not the top of the line Plymouth for 1957. It was the Plymouth Fury.

Shayne Rasnic
That would have made me sick to see that too. Ugggh
The car was rusted beyond repair and it wasn't restored. It was cleaned up to make it presentable and is now in a museum in IL.
Shayne Rasnic im from tulsa and i remeber. It was cool.
Good town. Don't spell it backwards.
Yeah, me too.
There is a town in Louisiana named "Waterproof". When two fishermen from the town drowned the newspaper headline read;"Two Waterproof fishermen drowned". So I doubt Miss Belvedere would have faired any better even if it had been burried in "Waterproof" Louisiana.
Charles Foster Tremendous
Wait, my brain hurts
lol nukeproof but not waterproof😂
Siro Stehrenberger seems legit to me
The capsule was nuke nuke proof not the crypt.
Siro Stehrenberger nothings water poof 😂😂😂
Hahaha a nuke threat was the talk of the day during the cold war era whereas a tsunami was unheard of then
joe sarb Well that's not factually correct.

My mind is still boggled at hearing how many Brits pronounce "capshule".
if it was a Macdonald hamburger, it may heve been edible
Jan Beute made my day
Ockie Ditchbank lol lol lol 😂 damm straight lol
They didn't use preservatives in the 50s the way they do now
O
Jan Beute they are not edible to begin with
What a shame for it to get damaged like that...
It would probably be history now in a scrap yard, if it hadn't been buried. Most Mayflowers are long gone now. The styling just wasn't there either.
We all have time capsules 😂 We got that drawer with useless junk lol
I kinda feel bad, in 2009 I buried some dead batteries as a time capsule, but I moved out of that house in 2017 and never dug it up...
@@PKMNFan4664 That's crazy, I buried my cat in 2009 and I moved out of my house in 2016 And I never dug it up since then

Why fill the tank with gasoline?
It's way rotten by now, petrol/gasoline is only good for a couple years at best.

Nathan Forde I agree.
Just kidding. Put pay attention.

I was living in Tulsa when they dug her up. It was big news. Everyone was so disappointed when we realized the car was destroyed...
As a civil engineer I find it interesting that they didn’t prepare for changing water table levels and make the enclosure waterproof
That Belvedere would have probably been in better condition if they just left it out on the street.
Nah but in a garage maybe
Louis Laszlo probably realisticly but jokingly they were known for bad rust problems within a year after being made
Louis Laszlo there was a nuke and the weather and it’s been 51 years.
Louis Laszlo that’s completely true because all the humidity from the rain went up and it rained again witch went back in the ground it ruined the car until they rebuilt it!!! After watching this, I've learned a new word: "CAPSHULE".
This man made a different video about time capsules and I thought I was going to kill my self before it was over
I've heard schedule as "shedule" before, but JIM JIM hit the nail on the head with this comment about "capshule"!!! Hilarious!
JIM JIM that’s right there with the flat commemorative plaque that was “erected” on the spot.
Made me nuts....capshul
Well that's English for you. You weirdo foreigners who don't speak English are always getting surprised by its pronounciation foibles.
my dream car is a 1957 plymouth fury so that was somthing that really made me happy to see they restored it

Would it have been that hard to build a waterproof container? Like a seal welded Stainless Steel box... Poor car.
M. S. L. At the time the technology was around but faulty the idea that stuff had to be water proof and the idea of waterproofing was a new concept
$100 gets you a ton of cement. Rebar is also fairly cheap. Building a giant stainless steel box is expensive.

Alonzo Hair man Camaros didn’t have pop up headlights they are built into the front of the car like most cars do.

That's my dad, spraying the concrete into the pit at 1:53 . He was there for the excavation ceremony in 2007 as well.
NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!?!??!??!?? WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT TO SUCH A WONDERFUL CAR
You build a crypt to hold a car for a time capsule event but you don’t make it water and air tight! Not the smartest but hey this is Oklahoma.
Rodger Watt they thought it was water tight they used a new brand of concrete that was being made in the area and over time cracks started to form it happens this was a community based event to promote businesses and local products making the town closer

how its nukeproof, the concrete layer looks thin, and not waterproof, dummy engr. that time lmao
Nothing worse than ads in the middle of the video. I quit watching and I wish I could take my view with me. 😀
I've been watching this video since 1957.. and I gave up. I'll never know what it's talking about
