These politicians are much smarter than they look. Eh...kinda? While his thesis (8:27) is true for the most part (Google will likely minimize positive results for certain things, esp. illegal activity), he ignores the fact that if you search a neutral search term, like "Steve King", it is ultimately Google's decision whether or not you will get positive or negative results.
@@actualnotanewbie That is true that ultimately google is the one that selects the result, but google isn't making that decision with political or biased opinions in mind, it selects that result because it believes that is most relevant information to the end user, regardless of the article content. Now, the use of the word relevant could be twisted or used pretty diplomatically, but "relevant" to google encompasses accuracy, proximity (if location is available) to the information, recency, past search results, etc. Google even explains this themselves on their "how search works" page.

That’s why we need younger people in the government. Otherwise, we will keep getting different versions of Ajit Pai for every law.
These politicians are much smarter than they look. The point of the questions is not (only) that they may not know the answer, but for the answer to be documented and recorded - so if anything from Google or that Google announces publicly later that differs from testimony, they would be immediately guilty of lying to Congress. Its a hidden trap of all government hearings, otherwise they wouldn't need to hold it in person (I'm sure they know how to use Google for research, at the very least their staff can). I'm surprised at how many people are missing the actual motive of these hearings. - Copied from D Kwan
