Jon really shows off what they all did with this game! If I remember right, the development process of this game and how it translated into Starfox is also covered in the Netflix doc "High Score", episode 6 I think
Thanks for re-introducing X to the world :) I hope more people can give X-Scape a play, it's packed full of stuff and very pretty, and the soundtrack is again Totakeke-san! (and excellent)
I've been watching some nl videos lately and I've noticed how Jon keeps pointing out precise facts and details about video games in general and I love it! It's always great to see people that pasionnate! Keep up the great work! :)
I’m not sure if it fits this style of video but I’d love to see one on the Cruisin’ series! This is by far my favorite part of this channel so excited to see where these dives go next
Jon, these types of videos are where you shine. You are great in other vids, don't get me wrong, but you bring something special in these segments! Bravo!
Did anyone else think the single player campaign music in Splatoon was a homage to X? listen to that stage completion jingle, it makes me think of the tunnel escape tune every time.
There was a GBA game known as Star-X which is a Starfox clone, its pretty impressive for its time, but its basically running on SNES hardware by that point. I will have to keep my eyes peeled for X
Something less known than this game is that Argonaut ported the polygonal racing game, Race Drivin, to the Game Boy and it's also really impressive, it's actually a million times more playable than the awful SNES port by THQ and it's even slightly more playable than the Mega Drive version which already was pretty decent.
Just to point out Jon, the Mega Drive could do full 3D in the sense of Star Fox. While Star Fox was running on the Super FX chip on a standard Super NES console, SEGA had Virtua Racing on the base Mega Drive running on the SEGA Virtua Processor chip or SVP for short. I don't know the full details but the SVP chip was said to be more powerful than the Super FX chip. Although there were other Super FX/Super FX 2 games, there was only Virtua Racing running on the SVP but apparently other games were in development such as Virtua Fighting. On the demo side of things, people have done a small demonstration of Star Fox on the Mega Drive without the help of enhancement chips. Finally, people have brought FPS and 3D style games (style might not be the right choice or word there), to the Mega Drive.
Jon...y u no talk about Rhythm Heaven/Paradise series yet??? This was you verbatim at one point: "So we're talking about 3DS games that released in 2017 and beyond...which DOESN'T include Rhythm Paradise Megamix. But...I, I, I just want to talk about this game. LET ME TALK ABOUT THIS GAME!"
Any interest in doing a game room tour for each of the 3 hosts? Seeing as you all are so passionate about games it would be interesting to see a deep dive on your collections.
Did u look at some of the SNES Japan-only games maybe satellaview or Live-a-live, marvellous, front mission gun hazard, gunman proof, ganbare goemon, etc?
since you did Captain Rainbow already, I'd love to see you tackle 2 other Skip titles that never left Japan....Giftpia ( really wanted that one....hoping for a remaster that actually gets localized ) and Chbi-Robo!: Happy Richie Osoji
Just popping in to say that I played Xscape on DSi back in 2010. It was...a game. Not bad but not great either. Turning was rough, and trying to stick with the original minimal colors and shapes left certain areas feeling lifeless. Final boss was pretty good though.
And then they brought X back in Metroid Fusion and Dread. Oh, that's something else? It's a parasite that mimics its prey? What does that mean for Star Fox?!
some corrections: Star Fox was only impressive for consoles, PC had more advanced 3D games at the time. Star Fox 2 was completely done when they decided to pull the plug, Nintendo didn’t want it to look like that was their answer to games that were coming out for PS1 and Saturn. The final build had been acquired by wack0, the hacker behind the gigaleak prior to the SNES Classic. Speaking of unreleased yet finished games, Nintendo is bound to have more that we have no clue about (or at least that I personally am unaware of). Fingers crossed that they put one in an N64 Classic. There’s a significant number of highly sought after prototypes that are for the N64. Nintendo could include them as demos. They could even be lazy about it and use a Spaceworld/E3 build that’s already in demo form.
I started this video and I swear I will finish it but was anyone else freaking out that Paul Rudd was in that Nintendo commercial or is this common knowledge and I'm the last one to know? 🤣
Wait... have I been pronouncing "Argonaut" wrong my whole life? 🤔 Jason and the Or-gan-ots? Sounds wrong 😅 (PS not insulting the video in any way, I love these deep dives from Jon on more obscure stuff)
@@dylancuthbert2275 Wait - are you THE Dylan Cuthbert?! If so I'm not worthy! Thank you for so many awesome childhood memories, I've loved your games! As a Sega boy, I literally bought a SNES to play Star Wing! Also I'm glad I haven't been mispronouncing it!
please do more! This is the best content Nintendo Life has to offer
Jon really shows off what they all did with this game!

Yes you are right. Watched it a couple of days ago, and I was surprised to see StarFox get some recognition.
Yesss another retro rundown with Jon
This was lovely. Gaming history is always fascinating.
Thanks for re-introducing X to the world :) I hope more people can give X-Scape a play, it's packed full of stuff and very pretty, and the soundtrack is again Totakeke-san! (and excellent)
I love these deep dives into unknown Nintendo games, keep up the good work
I remember getting X-Scape on my DSi XL back in the day, I was amazed by the smooth 3D graphics on my little portable console, haha. How time passes.
Looks really cool, thanks for another great retro deep dive Jon! Hopefully you can keep making more like this :)
Lately I’ve been getting fascinated with Gameboy games again so this video came off all the better. Keep it up Jon and NintendoLife!
This was really fascinating! I've been a fan of Nintendo products for over fifteen years and I've never heard of X. Thank you!
Whaaaaa? This is so freaking cool. I've never even heard of this game. *Frantically runs to ebay*
Jon: We don’t talk about DKC3 in this house😂
I've been watching some nl videos lately and I've noticed how Jon keeps pointing out precise facts and details about video games in general and I love it! It's always great to see people that pasionnate! Keep up the great work! :)
This is called dedication. More, more, more!
I love these overviews of obscure bits of video game history. It sometimes surprises me how much there is even for a company as famous as Nintendo.
These videos are the reason I'm subscribed. I look forward to more deep dives on obscure or neglected Nintendo gems.
This obscure games with links to other franchises or just even deeper lore/legacy are some of my favourite videos from Nintendolife.
That was brilliant. Please more of those videos :)
I love these behind the scene stories. Keep up the good work and post more of them.
Do keep these videos coming Jon if possible, these deep dives are awesome learning more about untold niche gaming history!
Thank you John! I love these deep dives. They are one of my fave parts of Nintendo Life!
These are my favorite kind of videos, deep cut history lessons! John does a fantastic job!!
The more deep dives, the better. Excellent work Jon
I really like learning about these lesser-known games. Keep 'em coming!
Love this series, please keep it going Jon!
I love these so much, especially the fact that I get to hear Jon's voice lol
I remember hearing about this one in a SSFF video, so it's nice to finally see the game in greater depth. This was pretty cool, thanks for sharing!
I’m not sure if it fits this style of video but I’d love to see one on the Cruisin’ series!
This is by far my favorite part of this channel so excited to see where these dives go next
Starting a Nintendo Life video and expecting a "HHHHHHaallow lovely peeeople"
Jon, these types of videos are where you shine. You are great in other vids, don't get me wrong, but you bring something special in these segments! Bravo!
Interesting! I only knew X because of its music and sticker on the Smash Bros.
Thanks for the video
Please do more of these dives into gaming history, little known gems and more~ I really find them fascinating and awesome 🤩
I played X’s sequel, X-Scape.
I liked it a lot. Especially for a DSI exclusive game.
“especially for a dsi”? what do you mean?
@@poble The blame is on me for not finishing my sentences. Apologies.
@@turboDrowsy alright, I understand now
I love watching you doing these too Jon

Hearing Jon talk about this stuff gives me Nintendo Life.
Please Jon, I need more. I love these!!
Great video - very informative! Love the deep dives into Nintendo history. Keep it up Jon
That game looks awesome and I need to try it out someday. Please keep making these kinds of videos!

Jon: ok, I need to record this video
*inhales the exact opposite of helium*
Jon: ready.
Great video! I love learning about lesser known games like this.
I remember seeing a video on this and remembering how could you see what you were doing with this game
I got to see a complete in box copy of this at my old job, was wild to get to hold it in my own hands.
I love those videos, Jon! Keep on the good work!🖤
This was very interesting and you had my attention and interest the entire video.
this is breath taking
Definitely do more. Jon is the MVP of NL
Awesome! Thanks for this video!
Makes me want another Star Fox
I would have loved this game in the 90s! I played faceball 2000 with my friend through the link cable though.
It's worth mentioning that there's a song from the game in Smash Bros, Tunnel Scene.
These videos are great, more please!
Would love to see more of this sort of thing!
1:04 whats with that DKC 3 hate😂
I had no idea where that track in Smash Bros came from. Nice to have the context and history of this title. Now I know!
This was a good one. Thanks!
Jon the Game Historian! Yes, please do make more.
Yes! More Jon! And more obscure games!

I know this game thanks to the incredble remix of the song tunnel from smash bros
This exactly what I need to watch at 5.36am.
Fantastic video!
I feel like I've heard this type of video game history ramble before on another channel.... Maybe it was the did you know gaming channel
saw the title and instantly thought "ah so this is gonna be a jon video"
Love these ones.

The shortest title of any game released on a Nintendo platform. Tied with Z and D, which came out on Sony systems.
I hear there was another game called which broke that record :P
1:05 i see you have chosen death.
