What's your favorite dungeon in Majora's Mask? Mine is hands down the Stone Tower Temple. That's... just the right answer.
Tbh, I didn’t get very far in that game lol, so I have only done the deku one
That is a hard one. I like all of the dungeons other than the Great Bay temple.
Stone Tower definitely, mainly because it allowed so many challenges and you get to utilize everything you experienced to navigate through the temple!
Also Giant's Mask in 3D was so satisfying.
@@HylianGamr1 I understand the hate that Great Bay gets considering it's a water temple, but I honestly find it to be my second favorite dungeon in the game. The atmosphere and music of that dungeon was amazing and there's A GIANT FRIENDLY TURTLE 🐢 THAT YOU RIDE. 10/10
Awesome video
Considering the mayor’s chair depicts a rocky smiling face with purely yellow eyes, I think it’s possible that the moon is the normal moon of Termina. The reason for the jugglers’ line of dialogue could be that the moon was possessed/controlled by Majora, changing its expression and in particular, the eyes, which now resemble Majora’s.
That's what I was thinking. Excluding the chair part, because I haven't played the game in a while.
Also i remember the Star Gazer guy or something referring to the Moon Tear as it is crying, It didnt want to crash into Termina but Majora is forcing it to for his sick kicks.
Zeltik actually made a video about that, if anyone would be interested.
Also they is no regular moon in the sky therefore the angry moon is termina natural moon
Came here to say this, same.
I could've sworn the Great Bay Temple was a water purification facility to keep the oceans clear. I don't know where I heard or read that but I think that makes sense given the internal design and mechanisms.
Yea I heard of that too. It makes a lot more sense than just a place of worship. I mean take a look at it! There’s no alters or anything that looks like a shrine. It strictly looks like a water purification plant for the ocean
That's basically been the popular theory and I agree, it makes way more sense than the generic "place of worship" theory that seems to be used for almost every other Zelda dungeon. Nothing about the Great Bay Temple even comes close to resembling a place of worship. A water purification plant or possibly even a hydro power plant (which would explain why Termina is so much more technologically advanced than Hyrule) seem to be the two choices that make the most sense.
I think it was mentioned in game because I remembered that too. Maybe tatle tells us. Can’t really remember
They definitely mention that in the game. I think it’s when you’re retrieving the Zora eggs. 🤗
@@davisbowe8668 My money's always been on the power plant theory.
I still believe Woodfall and Great Bay temples are both water purification plants and not just places of worship. In Woodfall you have to light the torch flower mechanism, once it starts spinning the water inside the temple clears and after the boss fight the whole outside area clears up as well. Great Bay temple it just a giant machine that you got to switch the water flow. The Zora, Gerudo pirates, and other inhabitants complained that the waters have suddenly turned murky and dangerous so the Skull Kid messing with the purification plant isn't a far fetch.
Water does represent life, since you can live with very little food, but not water. A place that is able to purify that would likely be worshipped
Wrong
It's interesting to consider that maybe one of the things that makes Termina different from Hyrule is an innate tendency towards stagnation. Maybe this is a world where it does require direct intervention to keep the water from rotting, the slopes from freezing, the dead from rising. And what the Skull Kid did was dismantle the tools to stave off that stagnation
Might be both. Woodfall and Great Bay are very stylized for simple purifiers(which btw I love this idea), so they may have functioned as both. Perhaps even the act of purifying the water is considered sacred in some ways. 3DS version makes the GBT even fancier; it's less degraded and neglected looking than the OG.
@@caesarion4596 If you're gonna disagree, at least provide your ideas or reasonings why, I'd find that more interesting lol
There is some evedence that the moon normally does have a face. The twin jugglers say nothing about the moons face, which you would think would be the first thing you notice, only that it’s scary and has red eyes.
Also on the back of the mayors chair there is a moon shaped ornament with a smile on it. The busyness scrub in town is collecting moons tears, which seem to be a known about thing. Implying they happened more then just this one time.
Hello there, was a pleasure to join Bandit on his Side-Quest to Termina in the Dungeon Lore Series!
Yes, bandit is absolutely amazing!
Well in french Majora final form is called Magician Majora make no sense to me but doesn't make more sense than the fierce deity is now a genie ... Like a genie of a lamp .... Clock town ave 2 different french name for french france and french Canada so again always best to use the Original Japanese names ..... Or in a certain other games i wont name every single name was changed in Localization character names and area name
LETS GO W BANDIT SECOND BEST ZELDA❤❤❤
Ayyy the two main Zelda theorists I watch collaborating? That's awesome mate. Why isn't this comment more popular?- xD
General Kenobi!
One thing you missed about the moon is the fact the mayors house has depictions of the moon decorating his house and office. But more importantly its a depiction of the moon with a smile. The moon was always there and it always had a face, but its only when the mask showed up when it took on an angry face. Majora didnt create it, but they did take control of it
Also while i'm at it there is a very important distinction about majoras mask that i see many people mistaking. You claimed that the dark tribe created the mask and this is what most others would say too. But go through and read whats actually said ingame, they only ever said they USED the mask in their rituals. Nowhere does it ever say anything about them CREATING it
Ask yourself, how would they get caught unawares and overwhelmed by the power inside it if they're the ones who created it, they should know it literally inside and out. No, to me its more likely they found the mask and used it to become a powerful dark tribe, not aware of the true power dormant within
That makes more sense. If I had to take a guess, I would say that the Fierce Deity went into battle with Majora many years ago before the events of the game and managed to force the entity into slumber by turning Majora into a mask
The Oro-Boro tribe - that's just what I'll call them - then came across this mask and gave it to their chieftan as a gift. Partaking in a hexing ritual one evening, however, this chief was exposed to the overwhelming power of the mask. Frightened, they cast it out back into the world
Some years later, Shoto - my head canon name for the Happy Mask Salseman - comes across the mask. As a mask salseman, he takes it. He can also sense the its great power, so he decides not to sell it or wear himself. For now...
Some time after Ganondorf is sent to his execution, Shoto decides to travel the world, eventually ending up in a familiar world known as Termina. And one night, he can hear the buzzing of two fairies as well as the shifting of a Skull Kid's wooden feet...
The games kinda gloss over it, so maybe I'm just reaching, but perhaps the last two areas were meant to have big changes like the first two when you finish the dungeon. The Great Bay Temple strikes me as it being a filtration building. As the inhabitants around the area are complaining that the ocean has become more murky and dangerous lately, perhaps with the pumps all being shut off for the most part, the filtration isn't working properly, thus causing the ocean to become murky?
It's always great to watch a video on Majora's Mask. It's such an amazing game.
I was thinking you would add the two Spider Houses and the Pirate's Fortress just because you only have 4 main dungeons.
I'd say the moon always looked the way it does, considering the fact that the moons' tear is a stone that comes from the moon crying and we know the astronomer already was in possession of one prior to the events if Majora's Mask
I think that the manga descriptions could still be KINDA right, in a certain way. The fact that the bosses' masks are clearly tied to a giant makes me think they're linked in more than just the "you've been hanging out in my temple" kind of way. I think the bosses probably ARE the worldly kami representing their respective Giant, but their link to their Giant has been severed by the masks, or something to that effect.
Hey bandit!!! Hope you had a great Christmas!!! Love seeing when you post new vids. It really makes my day better when I’m not having a great one. So, thank you! Hope you have an amazing day!
Hope you and Commonwealth have a Happy Holidays, Bandit! Great Dungeon Lore video! Love the N64 Zelda games, so this was very nice to see!
Yesss I was looking forward to this one. Merry Christmas bandit, hope you had a good time!
Luv. Your collab vids bandit aaaand hope u had a wonderful christmas
I'm currently playing through Majoras Mask for the first time on the switch so it's perfect that this came out
Another moon theory is that it’s always had a face, just not angry due to the happy moon thing at the top of the mayors chair. And no one being all like “WHY THE HECK DOES TTE MOON HOWE A FACE!?”
I've been waiting for this one!!!!
Great Bay Temple is a giant water purifier, can't change my mind
yeah it doesnt seem like a worship area to me
@@monsieurlefrog8706 I haven't even played the game, but I've seen some of the dungeon and it seems way too mechanical for a place of worship. That doesn't have to be a counterpoint, but most tech-like dungeons and temples and whatnot look more spiritual for lack of a better word.
@@NuiYabuko totally. There is an altar or two throughout, and like the narrators said, this game has very religious inhabitants. It would track that the people of the water-dwelling society have a spiritual motivation for investing all that effort into a water treatment plant.
@@monsieurlefrog8706 there's a great video laying out this idea and I wish I could remember which Zelda RUclipsr it was who made it. In any case, searching "Great Bay Temple theories" will net you that video as well as a lot of other cool ones.
@@Levacque Not me :P
Yesssssssss a new lore video!
This series might be my favorite Zelda content on the platform!
Majora's Mask may not have a lot of full dungeons, but it does have several mini-dungeons/quasi-dungeons
Somewhere I heard the Moon on Majora have always face, and probably would look like the mask on the Mayor Chair, and actually that face appears in a lot of parts
"Once in a really, really scary, red-eyed moon!"
The Bloodshot Moon rises once again
I love that the lore videos are split between channels, it reminds me of my first play through of Zelda and looking for everything. Awesome video as usual
I was under the impression that the Deku Shrine was a mausoleum of sorts to honor the dead. It seems to echo the design of Dampe's Grave from Ocarina of Time, which I presume held a similar function.
It would also seem to explain the Deku Butler's presence there, as he recently lost his son. I think the Deku statue at the beginning of the game that appears to represent the son's body is literally where he died, and not a memorial in of itself, which could explain why the Butler might have been mourning at the shrine. But this is all grand speculation from someone not very versed in Zelda lore lol
Oh yeah no, that wasn't a deku statue. Skull Kid's curse on Link stole the Deku Son's soul and put it in Link, leaving the petrified "statue" that looked so sad
@@kreiskhaos8516 Yeah, I said as much, hence why the Butler is grieving there
"The moon is microscopic compared to anything that would be considered a planetary moon."
Martian moon, Deimos: *cri*
Wouldn't Charon be tinier? Though I guess Pluto isn't seen as a planet anymore. shrugs
@senselessmind8603 I had to read up on it because I wasn't sure, but it turns out Charon has a "mean radius" of about 377 miles, whereas Deimos has a mean radius of about 4 miles. It looks like Deimos is little more than a captured asteroid.
I never thought calling the botw shrines "stocking filler" could be such a clever insult! Very well done fellas!
Cool Video bro!
Same to you as well. I enjoyed the video, it was very interesting Keep them Coning.
Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
Love two of my favorite games of all time, Majora's Mask & Xenoblade Chronicles 2, feature trees atop a hill in a weird dream reality.
I was really confused by these two videos in my sub feed until i checked the comments and saw that y'all worked together
But what about the mayor’s chair? There’s a carving of the moon with the face.
I was just listening to the Stone Tower Temple music, then checked if you uploaded something recently - and it's MM-related.
Dude I wish 3:28 was in the actual game! To see a glimpse of the actual Majora, ie; That dragon god thing would be sooooo cool! He looks sick!
Me before opening the video: "He's gonna do the ‘Zelda with no dungeon’ joke, I know it, I will not be impressed"
Me two seconds later: "I have been impressed"
Great video as always Bandit!
You're an incredible and important part of Zelda fandom.
8:00 also the connection with the word "lunatic" (ofthen referenced as "people with mental disorders who are influenced by the moon")
I haven't played Undertale but one of my guitar students just got me to teach him the Snowdin theme and I love it!
I still say. Majoras mask is what spawned the other realities of Zelda games there has been.
Since link would have to constantly use a time reversal song to put hum back at day one dooming the other realities he left behind.
Making it where majoras mask could make the world as it wanted to in those other realities or timelines.
When you mentioned the Four Giants being deities I imagined the Four Giants as the four Regis Regirock Regice Registeel and Regigigas for a few seconds and it made me laugh at the mental image those four Pokémon with the proportions of the Four Giants. Just imagine Regigigas with the scrawny limbs of the Giants!
I prefer the explanation of @SaveData about the lore of Great Bay Temple. That is, the place is a water purification plant, not a place of worship.
What you said about demise's origin in your skyward sword bosses explained video. I thought that made a lot of sense.
Even though this game was made a good while ago, this game is so mysterious its getting a number of videos per month.....
There is one key detail missing , that the power in the Majora made it a kami.
And Majora made it's own moon , and new kami , out of jealousy for the respected kami.
Check Gaijin Goombah's video about the Oni show if you need more information.
As of today , it's still relatively new , it should be easy to find.
A zelda game without dungeons is like Breath of the Wild
I do find it odd how only Woodfall Temple and Great Bay Temple have mechanics inside the Temple’s themselves that influence their respective lands; the large wooden windmill-like platform that dispels the poison from the water in Woodfall and Great Bay Temple itself, with all the valves redirecting the water flow and large spinning fan, removing the murky water in Great Bay.
Snowhead and Stone Tower doesn’t have any system or mechanics within that directly influences the surrounding areas besides defeating the Temple Bosses. I do find it funny how Snowhead’s Boss Room looks very similar to the Goron Racetrack albeit a lot smaller and simpler but nothing that would affect the weather.
Stone Tower Temple doesn’t have anything correlating to the miasma plaguing its land although to be fair, the whole area had revolved around death and war between Ikana and the Garo’s. Igos mentions that Stone Tower Temple is evil and was recently opened where the Garo Master _does_ reside within along with the vampire-esque grim reaper Gomas. The main interesting mechanic of STT is obviously flipping the temple, or rather gravity, upside down. I thought maybe it was a way for the residents of Termina to approach and visit the moon, but since the Boss Room takes you to the strange, endless desert arena of Twinmold instead, maybe it’s more of a portal to a different realm or reality. That may be where the evil that plagues Ikana came from and that the Garo used the Temple against Ikana Valley/Castle.
To be fair to great bay, it is a water purification station. It has all that piping and cleaning equipment, so it appears each temple acted as both a temple and some other form. Maybe wood fall was also related to purifying water given how it so quickly poisoned the water.
Stone tower was most interesting to me because you know the lore that was like malice and other stuff came from a crack, and how the giants punished skull kid by sending him up, and stone tower is just interesting
Also how it seems to be connected to Hyrule, the haunted wasteland, etc.
Glad I'm not the only one who theorized the moon could be majora itself
Wish you would give MM more love. Always your shortest videos
I love your videos, especially your theory videos. Since it's release is just a couple months away, we all need to start building hype for Tears of The Kingdom. BTW, does anyone else think that maybe ToTK will be the end of Zelda? I mean, it probably won't be, but the way they're setting it up just makes it seem like it. Just think, why else would Breath of The Wild be, probably, the biggest Zelda game yet, and, again, now Nintendo is setting up ToTK to be the new biggest Zelda game yet?
Anyone else notice that the Moon in Majora's Mask and how bizarre it was that it suddenly caught fire as it was slowly lowering towards Clock Town in the Final Hours. Given how slowly it descended it SHOULDN'T have destroyed Termina but what should have happened is the Moon Crushes Clock Town and then Rolls away in a Random Direction. The Game gives the impression that it Blew Up as soon as it touched the ground like a Massive Powder Keg.
A moon with a face can still have a blue phase, though I have no doubt that the mask made alterations to the moon, such as compacting its size.
I'm glad everyone is doing well during this Christmas time. I'll be lucky to have a house before next year but happy holidays everyone...
Great Bay Temple actually does have a clear purpose; it's designed with machinery in mind, and I think it's meant to be a water purifier/dam of some sort. It's much fancier in the remake, but the N64 version has it in a state of rust and neglect, which coincides with the state of the Great Bay. A good chunk of the temple is spent reactivating the flow of water and/or redirecting it.
Hold on a sec, what about moons tears, it seemed like those existed before the events of majoras mask which implies that it always had a face
The key to understanding Termina is that it's not an astronomical observatory, it's an ASTRAL observatory. As in astrology. The falling "moon" in that sense is an anima form, all-consuming. And yes, possibly fake like the digital anima.
sup my dudes God bless you, a nice Zelda theorizing always makes my day, really good!
I hope we get some more MM lore in TotK.
I always thought the moon used to look blue and smiling. Since I remember seeing a picture like that. I don't remember where I saw that however.
I’m writing a story that subtly borrows from Zelda dungeons as inspiration-super rewarding!
No existe otro contenido que sea mejor que el tuyo. Saludos desde México
Christmas without presents is still Christmas. You don’t need presents. Only greedy people think there’s no Christmas without presents
Am I the only one who can’t believe BOTW is almost 6 years old? It feels like maximum 2 years for me. It will be awkward to see botw in the same engine/graphics as such an old game.
The Moon's Tear is a popular jewel, though.
Happy Sales Man is Gannondorf of MM. Red-haired man effing it up 🤪
I have a different theory about the moon in Majora's Mask. At the bottom of the stairs in the observatory, you can find the model of a moon globe which appears to be a normal-looking moon, which, in addition to what the jugglers say, indicates that Termina did used to have a normal-looking moon. You mention that the NPCs don't seem to pay much attention to the moon not having a face, but this is not necessarily true. Characters in the game state that there are usually many people in Clock Town during the Carnival of Time, but this year there are almost none. It's possible this is because of the threatening looking moon, and that the moon began looking like this after Skull Kid put on Majora's Mask and started causing trouble.
Professor Shikashi in the observatory states that the Moon's Tears have been falling lately, indicating this is not a regular occurrence. I believe that the evil moon in Majora's Mask was actually Termina's regular moon, now with a face due to Majora's curse, and it cries Moon's Tears because it does not want to crash into the world. When the four Giants stop the moon from crashing, Majora goes with Plan B and possesses the moon itself since it is so close.
are you sure thats all there is to say about great bay temple it seems like it had more to it with all the pipes gears and machinery inside it like it was used as a filtration system or aquarium or sewage system like an actual functional purpose
I have a video about the temple, but it's not being recommended, maybe you like what I have to say about it.
I mean the kids in the moon could represent the giants and majora would've been a forgotten worship giant that had its own tribe or whatever and just wanted vengeance
Odolwa could be an already existing god because in the cutscen for the story of the carnival of time that granny reads to you you can see the mask of odolwa.this could meen that he existed before the game so the would fall temple could be for he
Yeah the shrines were alright in botw but man I want some dungeons. Do you guys remember the abdominal Snowman mansion in TP? I liked that one
Hmm, given that, I wonder if the temple and the shrine are not for worshipping different deities, but fore different worshippers to worship in. Since only the Deku Royal Family is supposed to know the Sonata of Awakening, the song that causes the temple to rise from the waters, but any Deku, even some guy in a transformation mask, can skip across the water and enter -- getting to the other end of the course is a different matter -- perhaps that's how the worshippers are divided: the Royal Family worships at the temple, while non-royal Dekus worship at the shrine. (Is the butler not allowed at the temple? Maybe.)
The tears of the moon are meant to show that the moon is remorseful about the fact it's falling to the planet. It is their moon. It just is being controlled by Majora to destroy Termina.
The bosses were better in the original version. Fight me. Edit: I came expecting enemies but found friends instead. I lay down my arms.
Twinmold fight on the 3DS made me cry.
They were more challenging in the original where the 3DS nearly spoon feeds the player a win. Out of all the things they could have made easier for the game play I wish they would have done something else instead of messing with the boss fights.
I dont think the moon was transformed, it seems like that is detail most NPC would talk about... But it was instead a blue eyed moon instead, and since moon tears are used in the trading sidequest, the people of termina must value it's tears, and the reason why the rocks are called moontears seem to be related to the moon's appearence as well!
The moon is NOT a magical object summoned by Majora. There are 2-3 NPC's that have lines proving that their Moon does normally have a face.
Plus, even after Majora is defeated. The moon is still there. And there's been plenty of proof in Zelda to show that most spells/illusions/conjurations are broken whenever the caster is defeated.
i love these lore videos but, and maybe it’s just me. but anytime a video is split up in like a collaboration that requires me to go to someone else’s channel, i won’t. like i’m here to watch this channels video, and to get the whole video i have to go to a random person’s channel? no thanks. i’m good
Im just gonna say, in terms of the moon being small is probably just limitations, and they say the moon has red eyes, they dont say anything else about the nightmare face, that always made me think the moon had a face with possibly blue eyes or something less majora like, and the fact it has to be terminas actual moon, because there is no other moon in the skybox no matter where you are, its only that one, so i always thought majora used its magic to warp the moons appearance and how it works, which it has power that can shape shift people and things, and forced it to come crashing down on termina, and the moons tears are probably it crying because it doesn’t want to destroy everything, even the astronomer mentions moons tears falling before the event of the game, and he never questions why the moon has a face
Can you please do "Lore of Legend of Zelda Spirit Track bosses"?
1:32 Giant's balls
What about snowhead and the stone tower?
It'd be lovely if Nintendo dove deep into the animation business and made a Majora's Mask anime based on the manga adding extra lore content.
The Moon being a demon makes sense.
Man on the moon?,
more like man in the moon!
(Chomp)
I see the moons face as the face from Ganondorf 🤔 He also has red/yellow glowing eyes. But maybe its my Imagination but everytime i see the moon i'm thinking of Ganondorf 🤔
I use to think that the Moon was Majora, while the mask represented the embodiment of rage and sadistic enjoyment of the suffering of others. With Majora crying as the moon because it's being forced to destroy itself with the rest of the world due to its own failure of being able to control these emotions. Conscious of its actions, but powerless to stop itself.
0:16 You make them sound like they're horrible. Like sure, they all look alike, aesthetically speaking, but they were fun little challenges
Just a thought... but what if the Deku Shrine is actually the burial site of past Kings?
Honestly, I like lore. But I don't think it matters if we know what majora was or if it had a story. Because ultimately, it wouldn't have been the only one. Majora's mask is a game about grief, heartbreak, Isolation, and change. Powerful Themes that affect everyone in the world, from the townsfolk to link, and even the player themselves. Just knowing that is enough for me.
I miss Vortexxy.
The moon is the body of Majora? What is this, legend of dragoon or something (great jrpg if you are unfamiliar with it)
I think it's the normal moon. The moon tears have fallen before Link arrives
Is there a theory on a connection between Starfox and Majoras Mask? I mean the earliest I can place the appearance of the moon face thing is Starfox on SNES
@@DM-JorphdanYT_-Bestgram wat.
But when stone tower is upside down, hypothetically if you fell off it, where do you land
@Commonwealth Realm, which part of Norway?
Slightly unrelated, how do people think “traditional dungeons” could’ve been implemented on BotW?
Honest question.
In my opinion, I think they nailed the objective of the game with the shrines and Devine Beasts. I can’t think of anything better. Look, there’s no jewel, rock, artifact or anything at all to go after. A dungeon item wouldn’t work here either, as weapons and equipment break in the game. Shrines have spirit orbs to make you stronger, and only if you want to. The whole point of this particular game is choice. Your OWN adventure. It’s not like other Zelda games. It doesn’t have boundaries.
People always say they would’ve liked to see dungeons in BotW, so please, I’m curious, how could that be done?
can you please cover the other dungeons too? i cannot understand or even hear most of what the commonrealm w/e is saying.
Bandit... how did you know I got Majora's Mask yesterday?
