    The reason why Meta Ridley flew down to the planet was to regroup with the space pirates stationed at Phendrana drifts. That's why you see Ridley fly over when you first visit Phendrana.

  • @SorenDaein
    @SorenDaein Год назад +63

    One tiny detail about the cutscene that plays after defeating Meta Ridley. It was actually foreshadowed in a Chozo Lore Logbook entry titled "Statuary". Said entry goes over the Chozo Statues throughout the franchise, with the last lines being "Those who respect and honor these artifacts will know the friendship of the Chozo. Those who deface or destroy them will know our wrath, unfettered and raw". Meta Ridley destroys the centerpiece in the Chozo Artifact Temple when he shows up, marking the first of 13 instances of destroying Chozo Statuary. The other 12 were the Chozo Totems tied to the Chozo Artifacts. So when Meta Ridley was defeated, the Chozo's wrath was inflicted onto him by means of those laser blasts.

    I'm a bit surprised you didn't address the retcon with the Metroid Prime's lore. In the original release, it was stated that when the Space Pirates were mining, the Metroid Prime broke through a tunnel and attacked them. Several logbook entries discuss what happened thereafter, about how it was able to assimilate their technology, as well as their efforts in researching it and its eventual escape. Later releases (including regional releases, the Trilogy version on the Wii, and, of course, the remake) rewrote this lore because parts of it didn't make sense, most notably the fact that the Cradle was intended to both keep enemies out of the Impact Crater *and* keep the Phazon and its source in. However, the retcon also left a plot hole with the aforementioned assimilated technology, because the attacks it uses in battle are very obviously inorganic in origin; its energy-switching properties are strikingly similar to the Pirates' own efforts to reverse-engineer Samus's weapons, it can use something similar to a tractor beam, and it has freaking missile launchers.

    • @braydenputt2237
      @braydenputt2237 Год назад +33

      I feel like the phazon metroids are the most likely way to keep the whole thing clean, especially if the original lore wasn't retconned. After all, we know that phazon was already all over the place before the pirates showed up. It wouldn't be a stretch for one to turn into a phazon Metroid and blink into the cradle. Hell the phazon metroids and Prime itself are very clearly similar in aesthetics

    • @kevinalfaro7150
      @kevinalfaro7150 Год назад +12

      For me the original plot has less flaws. In the original the Chozos were still alive when the Space pirates arrived on Tallon IV, these stole some of the artifacts and the Chozos left clues on where they thought the pirates took the artifacts. In the new one the Chozos are dead already but they had foresight and saw the pirates steal the artifacts, which is stupid, because if you know is going to happen then hide the artifacts before that happens. In the original the Chozo weren't ghost too, it is explained that they found a way to trascend from their mortal bodies, but were corrupted by the Phazon, which is more in line of a Sci-fi game. In the re-release they were simple and boring vengenful ghost.

      @@kevinalfaro7150 Easy explanation for the plot hole of the clue for the artifacts which were stolen by the pirates; the clues are not "written in stone" and actually are able to give you real time info on the location of the artifacts. Like a GPS locator lol.

    • @generalcjg
      @generalcjg Год назад +16

      Easy explanation for how the Metroid Prime got those mechanical weapons from the Pirates.
      After the Phazon Metroid (or regular Metroid later turned Phazon Metroid) escaped containment, prior to ending in the Impact Crater it assimilated several of the weapons from the Space Pirates' machinery and some Pirates themselves. As we've seen in Super Metroid and Metroid Dread, Metroids not only suck the energy of their prey, but they also are able to steal weapons and abilities from both organic and inorganic enemies, which is how in Super Metroid the baby Metroid got the Hyper Beam and passed it to Samus, and later Samus was able to absorb the energy of one of the EMMIs and defeat it that way.

    • @skakirask
      @skakirask 9 месяцев назад +1

      The original pirate logs describe MP as “genetically similar” to a metroid, with Metroid Prime being the space pirates’ codename for it, so it’s not technically a Metroid, but then that raises questions on how it can spawn Metroids.

  • @Chaos89P

    7:06 In Prime lore, the Chozo who live of Tallon IV specifically had put away their advanced technologies in order to bring themselves into better understanding of the natural and spiritual. Them locking away power-ups could just be a way for different subgroups of this clan storing away their former technology. Or, it could even be that some of the upgrades are not actual power-ups, but rather Samus' suit being able to absorb and retrofit certain Chozo technologies, although that has no lore basis and is merely a cool concept.

    • @Cri_Jackal
      @Cri_Jackal 8 месяцев назад +5

      The suit absolutely has the ability to adapt any technology into itself, as most demonstrated in Prime 2 and Prime 3 where most of the upgrades you get have nothing to do with the Chozo at all, and were made by other species.
      This extends into Fusion, where we're shown that Samus can acquire new weaponry by simply downloading the data into the suit, rather than acquiring a physical item.
      It's a lot like Zed from Swat Kats or Technus from Danny Phantom, or probably closer to the Mechamorphs from Ben 10, who can store the data of any machinery they merge with and use that "memory" to tranform into it whenever they like.
      Fusion also allows Samus to absorb genetic information and convert that into an ability too with the advent of Metroid DNA into her system, she's just a straight up Kevin 11 type character now.

    • @FurryMcMemes
      @FurryMcMemes 2 месяца назад

      @@Cri_Jackalyep, it's canonical lore that Chozo Power Armor can adapt and utilize any technologies integrated into it by any methods. Thankfully lore-wise the armor can only be equipped by Chozo, Samus is the only human that is able to use Power Armor because her DNA was altered by the Chozo making her half human and half Chozo.

    Something I really like about Metroid Prime 1 specifically, is how the game hypes up every major boss, through environmental storytelling and lore entries. This is something that is strangely absent in the rest of the Prime games save for a handful exceptions (like Amorbis and Quadraxis), and I think this is a shame, Retro's writing has always been enjoyable.

    Ridley didn't die on Zebes, he was still alive, but barely. As a way to tell the player that they beat the boss in the original Zero Mission, bosses typically exploded. Ridley was put into the mechanical body as a means to stay active while his body was regenerating. In Super Metroid though, he did die because he was still on Zebes when it blew up. That still doesn't quite explain how Kraid was still alive in Dread when he was still on Zebes as well for both times Samus defeated Mother Brain

  • @NoMoreSuperHero
    @NoMoreSuperHero 5 месяцев назад +1

    Actually Ridley flew to Tallon IV because he was currently stationed as lead security there while getting cyberized on the Frigate Orphan because Phazon was such a high priority to the Space Pirates. One of the scans of in the ice area, I think in the first room you meet the Metroids drops that bit of lore and touches on that he actively enjoy the job hence why we saw his shadow flying over the snow.

    Here's an alternate theory for how a Metroid reached the phazon core:
    The original inhabitants of Tallon IV were Chozo. Yes, ones that separated from their kind off-world, but Chozo nonetheless. And it is well documented that the Chozo were overconfident in their ability to control the Metroid. It stands to reason then that the Chozo on Tallon IV, upon being confronted with a poisonous energy spreading through their planet, would send a Metroid into the core in order to combat this energy. They could either have been originally part of the Chozo on Zebes beveloping Metroids, or they could have reached out to them for help. But timeline wise and in regards to the origin of the species of Metroids, this is one of the few theories that actually makes sense to me.

    Really liked this video on the bosses of Metroid Prime. I can’t wait to see you talk about the bosses MP2.
    I expect the last section of bosses just being Dark Samus.
    One theory I have regarding Flaahgra’s existence could be to act as an biological water filtration system for the Chozo Ruins.
    Notice how before meeting it, Samus deals with the toxic water throughout the Chozo Ruins. And once Flaahgra is defeated, the water throughout the ruins return to normal.
    I looked it up a bit, and it seems like plants help clean and filter water much like how they clean the air.
    So my hypothesis is that the Chozo created Flaahgra to clean the water for the various organisms in the Chozo Ruins.
    But when Phazon was brought to Tallon IV, it mutated and began turning the water toxic. And with it being where all the water comes from, it effected the entire ruins.
    Is it a stretch? Maybe, but considering the Chozo were geniuses who created the Metroids themselves, the idea of them making Flaahgra a filtration system isn’t outrageous.

    I'm a Metroid lore fanatic(especially with the Prime games) and I was impressed by this video and the way you structured it. I particularly liked how you went into the origins of the Leviathans and the Metroid Prime, using what I see as easily the most viable theory amongst the various theories out there. The theory with the Phazon Metroids and their ability to phase through local timespace has been proposed and discussed before and it's a very solid theory, to the point where it almost seems to be implied to be the case.
    another thing I thought it was good that you touched on is that the Chozo literally had seen the future and knew Samus would be there someday, that's literally in the Chozo lore scans throughout the game and even explicitly mentioned in one that they're going to be leaving some things behind for her and a lot of people dismiss the way some upgrades are found as being too convenient when it's literally written into the story, so I like that you made mention of that.
    It's a breath of fresh air to see someone cover Metroid's lore with this level of care because there aren't many people that do it. I always like to see Metroid get more attention and exposure though because it's an underrated franchise, particularly in terms of lore. I look forward to seeing you cover the other two Prime games!

      It's incredible how many people just miss how the Chozo Lore in the game itself states these things. The Chozo knew Samus would arrive so they left behind clues on where the artifacts would be, they knew that she'd need help so they left weapons, items, and challenges for her.

    Also, I'm pretty sure the Metroids where all mutated on Tallon 4 because Metroid hunters are not a natural part of Metroid evolution. Unless they live in the right conditions, they don't evolve. They get HUGE if they eat enough, but they can't evolve unless it's an environment like the one on SR388.

    Excellent video!! Glad to see more metroid content, and pretty accurate stuff too! I've been playing the Metroid games for years, and I'm vaugely obsessed with the lore, so I have an Idea about the presence of Metroids on Talon IV before the space pirates arrived. It's explained in Samus Returns (the Metroid II remake) as well as in Metroid Dread that Metroids were created by the Chozo to exterminate the X parasites. In Fusion it is also explained that Metroids adapt to their environments, hence why the metroids tend to look different across games. Metroids on SR388 can evolve through the natural life stages we see in Samus Returns, while those put on other planets will evolve differently. This is why there are Tallon Metroids, and why they look different from Metroids elsewhere in the series, as well as why they evolve into the Fission Metroids and Metroid Prime instead of Alpha and Gamma Metroids and so on. It's not (just) art direction to make them look different, it's actually lore that they look different! That said, for there to be Tallon Metroids, they had to have been around for quite a while, and having been creations and controllable by the Chozo, were likely brought with them when they populated Tallon IV. At that point, when the leviathan hit, it just grabbed one of the local Metroids.

    The problem with the Metroid arriving with the Leviathan Seeds doesn't work either. The Chozo may have known about Phazze well before the impact on Tallon IV, but it was so far away, they would never reach it, thus neither would Metroids. Th Metroids themselves didn't come into existence until the same time Samus was adopted by the Thoha Tribe on Zebes. The Chozo of Zebes had only years earlier had decided to colonize SR388. Then they discovered the deadly X parasites. Metroids were created solely in response to the threat of the X on SR388. Metroids were not introduced to Phazze until Dark Samus conquered the Space Pirate home world, became their leader and ordered captured Metroids to be taken to Phazze. The Prime Husks seen in the Incubation Chamber are most likely recent in terms of time as there may be several Primes lurking even deeper within Phaaze that we never see. The cores of the Leviathans themselves are a worm-like creature, not Metroids.
    In conclusion, it would be impossible for a Metroid, a genetically created life-form to ever be on Phazze prior to the attempted colonization of SR388. Metroid Prime Hunters introduced us to the Quadtroid in the Alimbic Cluster as a similar genetically created life-form that is cross between a leech and reptile with similar energy draining abilities as Metroids, but there is no evidence to support that the Chozo and Almibics ever communicated and why the Quadtriods were created.

    As someone who has literally spent more than 50 hours playing and reading the Metroid Prime trilogy and lore I for one can’t wait for the other two videos to come out. The Prime series is one I love and will forever wait for 4 to be properly announced. We Metroid fans have patience if nothing else.

    the hunter metroids are something to mention. they seem to be natural to the drifts they appear in so its not impossible there were metroids before. counting Dread we know the timeline of metroids existence and tallon 4's habitation are similar. so they may have brought some with them just in case they ran into X again but since they werent needed they were either left to the wild, and evolved into hunters, or repurposed to fill a niche and maintain natural balance, remade into hunters.

      Plus, the hunters have the tentacles not unlike Prime.

    • @Cri_Jackal
      @Cri_Jackal Год назад

      Unfortunately, the timeline doesn't add up.
      Metroid's were never brought off planet by the Chozo, they were sealed beneath SR388's surface immediately following them going out of control, the group responsible for creating them was killed, and the Chozo group that killed them clearly didn't manage to get any metroid's for themselves since otherwise the entire plot of Dread wouldn't have happened.
      The metroids weren't some ubiquitous creation that every chozo knew about, it was a one off project that was covered up, the Chozo of Tallon 4 would have no idea they even existed.
      And if you consider the lore material provided by the manga as valid, then the timeline double restricts this, since there it's presented that metroids were created _during_ Samus's lifetime, Samus is a couple years older than the metroid species itself, and we know the Tallon Chozo had been there on said planet for millenia, and had purposefully cut themselves off from the wider galactic community.
      The reason why the pirates suddenly discovered metroids prior to Metroid 1 was through Mother Brain, she's a biomechanical AI created by the Zebes Chozo, who directly worked on the metroid project itself, remotely from Zebes, the metroids were a joint project between the SR388 colony and the established home world of Zebes.
      The Zebes Chozo were wiped out by Space Pirates following Mother Brain defecting to the pirates, having lost faith in her creators, seeing herself as superior, this left Mother Brain as the only being in the galaxy who knew that metroids even existed, aside from Raven Beak and Quiet Robe who were trapped on ZDR.

    A theory I heard is from another channel called Orpheon
    Metroid means Great Warrior
    So a Metroid Prime is a Great Warrior Prime. A warrior far more powerful than the Metroids that the Chozo created.

    18:12 WRONG! Metroids are specificially stated to have not existed in any capacity on Talon IV until AFTER the Space Pirates landed and the crater had been quarantined. The metroids within the Crater likely only got in from the Phazon Mines during the period of time Samus was fighting Ridley, as otherwise there is no physical way for them to be there either. The Metroid Prime is a metroid in no way except for name, as it is literally Chozo for "Ultimate Warrior". The "Metroid Prime" is a construct of entirely Phazon Origin, if ANYTHING was taken for it to use, it would have been one of the beetles, which is unlikely considering the nature of the Metroid Prime. Fission Metroids can't go through walls like Prime 3's Phazon Metroids can either, so they'd have to find a hole in the mine leading to the Crater, which would take time. And if the Metroid Prime WAS named that because of being a Metroid, then NO ONE would be able to create the name, Samus wouldn't know it was a Metroid and the Chozo all died before Metroids were introduced onto the planet, and the Pirates never encountered the thing post-retcon, only implied there were life signs within the crater. As a result, either the Logs aren't canon or it's not a metroid and just named "The Prime Ultimate Warrior" in Chozo.
    The SR-388 Chozo, only they had Metroids, all other instances are invasive brought by Pirates.
    19:06 Which again, it literally couldn't canonically. There was a Magic Space Bird Quarantine over the entire crater, that's why the retconned the Metroid Prime getting in through a tunnel, because it didn't make sense.
    Except the Magic Space Bird Barriers the Pirates repurposed kept them locked away just fine in Prime 3, no way in hell would Phazon Metroids gain the ability to bypass them only to lose it literally a week later.
    The real answer to "What is the Metroid Prime?" is that it's a moment of poor writing in an otherwise stellar game. It CAN'T be a Metroid, it CAN'T be a raw Phazon Construct (otherwise it'd be purely liquid), and realistically based on it's appearance, I personally think it's more likely to have been a Bio-Mechanical Super Computer Mother Brain Style, but no records of one exists, so it can't be that either. It was left so vague that any answer to "What is it" is literally unusable for one reason or another.

    Another possibility for the Metroid Prime's origin is the Chozo themselves locking it down there before building the temple, in hopes that the creature that feeds of pure energy would basically eat all the Phazon, preventing the spread.

    This video covers the lore of the original MP release, but the later releases retcon LOTS of details. The creature Metroid Prime no longer is a Metroid that stumbles past the Chozo energy field into the Impact Crater. Rather, I think it's implied that it's from Phaaze itself, and is somehow linked to Phaaze's existence. (When Samus finally kills Dark Samus / Metroid Prime at the end of the trilogy, all Phazon in the galaxy is destroyed.) How a Metroid got to Phaaze is its own question, but the lore is pretty different than what was in the first version of the game.
    Also, the retcon makes the Chozo logs much dumber lol

    I'd like to bring up some different interpretations of prime and prime 3. The prophecy could be referring to the leviathan womb meaning that the worm was the leviathan, The leviathans in prime 3 could be juvenile along with the core. Metroid prime husks are found on phaaze without cores, and the missing core on tallon 4, Could metroid prime be an adult phazon core.
