Great video! Thanks for the tip, that's one that will come in handy. I have a tree I love, but hate to use because of the little bends. Now I know a great way to fix them. Thanks for sharing, always enjoy your videos.
This is awesome and at the perfect time for me! I'm repurposing a piece of antique furniture that has gorgeous veneer, but there's one place that I need a bandaid (aka raised stencil) I'm on a budget, but luckily already had the identical Walnut Hollow hot knife. I had started using this and the recommended tip, the one you said rolls a lip 😕 Yes...it... does. Got my first stencil cut out on good sturdy plastic and it's sanded down, but... I'm ready for round 2 after listening to you. Thanks!
Thanks Shannon! This was helpful, especially watching you taping the pattern to the plastic. Why didnt i think of that?! Now i can turn the stencil, wow, that is better than turning the hot tool with a cord in a pigstail-curl for sure. Btw i never saw a tatto in white. That IS beautiful.
You are funny.... love all your videos!! A new subby, and so glad I found ya. :) I just got through cutting about 10 stencils, I use the Martha heat tool thingy. I love making my own creations. Thanks for sharing! hugs, kimmer
cool tutorial. i never even thought of using a hot knife when i was attempting to make stencils. might have saved myself a painful cut... Deviant Art is a fabulous resource for shareable images - been going there for years, both to host my art and to get bits and pieces to make it :)
Good tip on reshaping with that heat gun. Question -- does the blade get dull slower with the combination of heat? Regular Xacto-type blades? Nice stencils
Ya know...I have no idea. It uses regular Xacto blades and I rarely change them out but I don't use the hot knife nearly as much as I do my regular Xacto.
Thanks -- I do not have a Dremel -- but one similar. I always wondered if the knife blade would work for cutting stencils. I also gave one of those other stencil cutters with the bent wire-like tip -- and I know what you mean -- it seems to leave a little ridge lip rather than a clean cut.
Cool. Where did you get the heating knife from. Like I need one more thing to spend money on lol. But I want to try making stencils as well as soldering (dunno if I spelled that right)
I cut a stencil out last week with an Xacto knife, took me several hours cos watching a movie at same time. Very very tedious for just one semi-complex stencil. Not super happy with the results. Second and third stencils were the same tedium and "barely okay" results. Plus I could easily and happily use a couple dozen even more complex stencils -- and then want more. Strongly suspect one of those cutting machines is going to jump into my shopping cart rather soon.
Well, you are seriously very creative Shannon, I suspect you might not give yourself enough credit. Your results are way better than my own puny efforts! :D (I need extra help, is what I'm trying to say, lol)
It's not weird, I get confused easily like that, too. Yes, I heard the thunder. The stencils you cut and tested in this video are cool. The face stencil is great! and I love the Art you did with it... WOW!! yes, I do have that problem. Thank you for the tip! =)
+nestor briseño The tool I'm using is called a Dremel VersaTip tool. It comes with several different types of tips so you can cut, solder, burn images into wood, etc. I used the Exacto-type blade that it came with.
+Crazygore44 I can't make stencils for other people right now, just not enough time. But I know you can do this if you give it a try! It might a little practice at first and some time to get the tools and supplies but you can do it!
Could you use a piece of washi tape on the stencil square edge to keep it from "hiding" on your table-top? I've grabbed our son's wood burning tool and one of these days I'm gonna have to do this.
I was just trying to help you! *wink* grin! And here I thought I was the only one to do stuff like that -- lose things, I mean. I thot I was doing good, thinking this through -- problem-solving to help the both of us. sigh! :)

It's all about having the right tools ;)
Yep. My husband is a big believer in having the right tools for the job. I have heard that for years. Now I'm the one that gets to say it. lol

Shannon, what a great video! I thought my new stencil was ruined, now I can fix it.
Apple Sauce I'm so glad it was helpful for you!

Thanks for the tip about fixing those little protrusions, sticking out from our stencils, cuz I have several that really bug me.
They're the worst.
Morning Shannon . Can I use a wood burning too? It has several tips .
Suzanne Hale Give it a try. I went through several different heat type tools before settling on the one I felt worked best.
Shannon Green
Aahh I watched Ilene as you suggested . Good news for me she used a wood burning tool. woo hoo.

Thanks for watching!
Very helpful information, thanks!
Anastasia Rose You're welcome, thanks for watching!
Does the white ink show up really well under black light?? I never even knew there was a white ink you could get for tattoo's....cool to know.
There is a tattoo ink that is made to show up under blacklight but I think it's something special, not just plain white like mine.
Cool. Where did you get the heating knife from. Like I need one more thing to spend money on lol. But I want to try making stencils as well as soldering (dunno if I spelled that right)
Amazon can hook you up!
Ok thanks never shopped on amazon before :)

I agree, it's totally doable but a lot of effort for so-so results.
Well, you are seriously very creative Shannon, I suspect you might not give yourself enough credit. Your results are way better than my own puny efforts! :D (I need extra help, is what I'm trying to say, lol)
So drafting film, from Jerry’s.
Yep, worked great!
Thanks for sharing this with us. I do miss the nostril cam though. hugs mona
Ha! Never fear, there are more on the way!
It's not weird, I get confused easily like that, too.
Yes, I heard the thunder.

yes, I do have that problem. Thank you for the tip! =)

And I thought accidently cutting myself with a normal knife was bad. Yikes! 🤪
I really shouldn't ever be unsupervised.
thanks!!!!
+TOe Knee Thanks for watching!

Suzanne Hale Woo hoo!!

I could but if you've watched my videos you know that I lose things very easily whether they're clear or not! LOL

The video its too long, make it short!
+pemetikdua bintang Sorry but I like my videos long.
It was a perfect length for me; thanks for taking the time to share. Great information.
