I love how he just casually weaves in a few bars of Bach's Tocata en Fugue into this smorgasbord of awesomeness at about the 5 min mark. An unbelievable talent, innovator, and entertainer. The world sure misses you Eddie!

Eruption was a warm up Eddy would do before a concert, then in 1978 it ended up on their debut album, we had never heard a guitar do these things prior to V.H. Eddy perfected these styles out of necessity and has changed the sound and way a guitar is played for ever... I think its great that you younger guys are into this older music. This was all done without distortion pedals and electronics, and for that reason - what was heard on an album was also what you heard in concert, not many players could do that. What was truly awesome about it all is Eddy genuinely enjoyed playing it and continued to build and modify guitars and amps until he passed in Oct 2020 - RIP to a legend...

Absolutely true! I’m a 53 year old mom/grandma. I’ve never been a huge fan of VH music but I saw them three times back in the 80’s..twice with DL Roth and once with Hagar, and saw Eddie do this twice..it and their whole shows were just fantastic!

Eddie is the Goat. He was so inventive, his rymth and timing was uncanny. He could make the guitar sound like anything but a guitar. Unbelievable. RIP Eddie. We miss you.

Great reaction!!! You should look into his history and interviews. He came to America as a kid. Couldn't speak English. His dad was a big band jazz player. Ho learned classical piano and drums. His brother was the drum player in the band. And he never learned to read music

I saw Van Halen open for The Doobie Brothers back in the day. I had heard of them but I didn't know anything about them. They totally blew me away!

Van Halen has two different iterations. The first was from 1978 to 1984. Lead vocalist for that era was David Lee Roth. Great performer, good singer, added a ton of personality to the band. After that they got a new singer named Sammy Hagar. Sometimes they are called Van Hagar during that time period. I would say, start off with Van Halen. The entire band are a powerhouse. You can check out Van Hagar after you get to know some of the older stuff. You literally can’t go wrong with anything off the first at least…4, maybe 5 albums. The first two are gems. Banger after banger. If you want to see the showmanship tho, probably official video for Hot for Teacher and/or Panama are a good starting point.

Parts where it sounds like he's playing a violin or a cello is amazing. He had classical training as a kid. But he is the G.O.A.T. Mad respect for Jimmy and Stevie but you just watched the greatest Rock and Roll guitar player that's ever lived. Period! RIP Eddie ❤

    Hey guys,
the legend says, this solo or at least parts of it, was Eddies warm up before the show until somebody told him like "Man, you GOTTA do this on stage!" And the rest is history. RIP King Edward!
And if you like crazy guitar solos, check out Jimi Hendrix "Hey Joe" 😉

A genius and his amp. The tone, the delay and timing.....if he's a tad off the feedback would snowball it into a car-crash in numerous places. AND all the while it's still rooted in the Blues while flirting with the classical. It's what all the great flashy, some faster, pretenders could never quite emulate.

Appreciate the effort you guys put in. If you guys like intricate guitar work, you will almost certainly like Lindsey Buckingham's, (from Fleetwood Mac), version of *Big Love* from the Saban Theatre. And you would also almost certainly like Steve Vai doing *Tender Surrender* live.
They were both in Rolling Stone's top 100 guitar players of all time, and many people seem to feel that Buckingham was rated far too low on that list (and to be fair, there are some suspect entries ahead of his).
