He went to the wrong team that didn’t use him correctly!! Best Oregon QB ever watched him as a freshman at the spring game at Oregon and knew he was the real deal!!
his sophomore season was a great sign. he got hurt and was never the same. sure his scheme didn’t help him the most. But ryan tannehill threw 30 tds with the same team he did. at that point there is no excuse
Yeah but also Ryan tannehill was also a QB that could work with in that system.. Marcus wasn’t a pocket passer.. he was a scrambler.. more of a backyard football player he wanted to run around and make a play not sit in the pocket like Mike vrabble wanted him to
@@ryancrawford4171 That is true, but it was his 5th year in the nfl, he should’ve somewhat adjusted to that part of his game. He needed to move around more? correct. Arthur smith ran the most play actions, which should’ve played into his strengths. When you’re on a team with AJ brown, derrick henry, a great o line at the time, and A good support of corey davis and jonnu smith you can’t really make excuses for him.
I love this!!! Big Titans fan who lives in hawaii. Loved when we drafted Marcus, but when he broke his leg that sophomore season, he was never the same.

It will be epic to see Flemlo being interviewed on The Pivot Podcast. FlemLo you are the best storyteller of football athletes. I appreciate your research, your fair and unbiased opinions. Thank you for all that you do. Peace.
He is a quiet, positive guy. I met him and he was just relaxed with a ton of people around him. He just had a kid and as a new parent myself, it doesn’t surprise me in the slightest that he decided football was a job and his family comes first for him.
That was one of my all time favorite memories as a ducks fan watching Jameis just implode, I'm sorry but that was supposed to be a competitive game and it just about went as badly as possible for the noles in the second half.

As a titans fan he was everything I wanted as the face of the franchise. They didn’t do him no justice with all the changes but injuries happen which also slowed him down. Always wished him the best. Flem-Lo you need a damn documentary show your phenomenal.
Hopefully Marcus sees this. I’ve always rooted for him since he was in college and till this day still root for him. Great video and got me motivated late at night.

Flem with another sure banger. Was never high on Mariota, personally. Too many manufactured throws in college. Wasn’t tested as a down field passer. He could have been good in the right spot, but he needed to be developed a lot more than advertised coming out of school.
@@FlemLoRaps In the right system he could have been great, and I think if you compare him and Winston he probably was the more interesting player to try and build something with but unlike Winston, who is sort of high floor mid ceiling whereas Marcus looked special his first 2 1/2 years showing how much potential there was and the next couple of years showed how the floor needed more work which denied him a second chance at really developing that upside. Also I feel like the QB mold has changed since he was drafted everyone wants an athletic QB who can run and improvise, I feel like in the right situation he'd be sort of a high end second tier QB who could have flashed Elite. I don't think he'd have ever challenged the Mahomes, Herberts, and Allens of the NFL.
Mariota can SLING it and he showed it many times. That whole "manufactured" thing you talking about is corny. My mans could bomb it from the pocket and while moving his feet. You don't get a TD to INT ratio and as many passing yards as he had by constantly doing short little screens. Dude rarely missed and he played with one dude at Oregon who would've made a good NFL receiver. Dude was throwing to a bunch of insurance salesmen and teachers. You should watch more of his game before making such goofy statements.
@@ABreadlessDuck Herbert was similarly called a system guy and soft etc. before his rookie year and he played in a rebuilding period with barely 1 NFL caliber receiver and some of the most bland offensive schemes I've seen as a ducks fan and yet he has turned into a top 7 probably top 5 NFL QB. In the right system and with more luck Mariota is still an NFL starter. Nobody watched the Pac 12 which is why it and it's players reputations were garbage and why it no longer exists.
I remember, in that Wild Card comeback against the Chiefs, when Mariota threw a block for Derrick Henry near the end of the game so he could get a few more yards for a first down to ice the game. In a game where he did all sorts of wild stuff to put the Titans in the lead, that was the biggest play in my book. That's the kind of dude he was - selfless. That was the guy I wanted on my team. I hope he can get another chance to prove who he is and get that fire back. I really do like him and I believe he has the ability to succeed.
Videos like this give me fuel. I've been watching Flemlo for 3+ years and every video pushes me further in my pursuit for the draft. Here I am, a D3 Transfer in the portal having talks with places like App State and South Alabama. With watching every "What happened to" video I learn from professional player's mistakes and WILL NOT follow the negative steps. That being said I value your ability to look so far in depth to a player's positive characteristics and give them the benefit of the doubt for the most part. I just want my story told like you tell it (hopefully by you) someday. Thank you Flemlo❤️

@FlemLoRaps does great videos on topics at angles that people often don't think about. Marcus Mariota was the most hyped I'd been for a Titans draft pick since Vince Young, and he really proved it with the way his career started. Methodical precision on the field, class act off of it. It really felt like he was the future for the franchise. Despite his setbacks, he's become my favourite NFL player based on just being a solid human being. This video really did him justice, and I appreciate how much of the focus was on his humbleness. Thank you as always, Flem!
You did it again FlemLo! Another informative, insightful and Respectful look into the life of a Human being and man, rather than one of an athlete/ public figure. You are a gifted storyteller my man, keep up the awesome work!!
Damn bro. This one got to me. I was getting mad choked up at the end. Dope video bro. Thank you for this one. I think a lot of what you're speaking on in this one applies to a lot of us in our own journeys. Powerful and true.
Him and Oregon are the same where it’s amazing that they made it as far as they did from small backgrounds but now that they peaked they are just content to keep business movin without ever breaking through to elite greatness.
Damn FlemLo!! This was so well done!! This has been the case for a while but you’ve passed the category of “RUclipsr” and are an actually dope journalist!! This was informative and motivational and I even almost shed a tear there at the end!! Well done, bro!! Well done indeed!!
Damn this was a very emotional video. Great job. As a Raiders fan I think Gruden saw the same fire and potential as a lot of Mariota’s early believers. It’s a real shame what the league did to Gru because all he wanted to do was get the most of these amazing people and athletes.
I love this channel and the deep character studies that you do! I also love the take away at the end, and what we can learn from this situation. The QB Netflix special was really interesting. What struck me most is that he simply does not seem like he genuinely believed in himself at any point. Regardless of the words that came out of his mouth, his body language, demeanor, decisions... nothing seemed to indicate he was comfortable in his role. It was almost like he himself did not believe in his own accomplishments. It is not just humility. I think this is a gifted, good person battling his inner demons.
Yeah...bro was him...he will never be forgotten..bro was too humble..I felt it through the screen how you narrated this video bro..u be making us grown as men wanna cry how you make us feel your videos bro...you is him on the narrative lv..SALUTE
If he was drafted by Andy Reid I think he would have had a good career. He went to an organization that didn’t care, they tried to change him to a Tom Brady type of quarterback Look at how good Lamar Jackson is right now because of how they built that offense around his strengths, Titans never did that. Mariota is best in a hurry up offense spread type offense, not slow paced huddle offense
Agreed imo mariota suffers from coming in the league 2 or 3 years too early before teams really began to embrace certain college offensive schemes i think mariota would have throved in an offense similar to what kingsbarry had with the short qb in arizona whose name is escaping me at the moment
YES SIR!!! The Titans ruin everyone, they haven’t gotten the most out of a single great player they’ve had with the exception of Henry who they never truly surrounded with enough talent to get over the hump
I know I say it every video, but you're truly gifted at this. I've been watching RUclips for nearly 20 years and I've never seen a channel consistently keep me engaged with a person or topic I had no interest in. I consider myself a casual NFL viewer and don't know the players all too well, but if I see you got a new video, I'm down to watch and take the ride with you!
Was the happiest kid in 5th grade when my favorite college quarterback got drafted to my favorite professional team. Then was the sadest kid a few years later when he was traded to the raiders. He will stay as one of mh favorite players for forever, no doubt, but sad how the story went down. Thank you for this vid flem.
Always liked watching him play in that final year at Oregon and the early Titans days. A true Samoan warrior man, that's for sure. The 808 facemask fact blew my mind! All the best Flemlo, you just keep getting better and better with time bro.
Man, after watching this video, putting myself in his shoes, and thinking what it would be like to watch this beautiful piece about my life, would be extremely emotional to say the least. Those closing words were powerful, and I really hope someway Marcus watches this video.
While his pro career has a struggle I enjoy watching him play and feel like he could have been better in a different situation. It just feels like now he’s lost all his confidence like you said Flem
Just randomly came across your video. What a freaking excellent job man, you do such a great job and humanizing him and show how much heart he had. Super inspired video to watch, thank you for all the time you put into it.
Oregon native here. Was blessed to watch him tear up the field for some years. Nobody will ever know but Marcus, but if I had to guess what’s goin on in his head I’d say it has to do with Hawaii. It has to do with him feeling like a let down to his people and who he represented. I’m sure he had massive aspirations to do incredible things in nfl and when things didn’t work out in the long term he took it personally and took the responsibility of his people and his state. Something no man should have to have on their shoulders. Things like this happen with great athletes, actors etc though. It’s all a part of life. Hope he continues to find joy somewhere doing something awesome
Stop it. You make it sound like everyone in Hawaii depends on Marcus' success in order to survive. There's lots of people in Hawaii who don't even watch football...🤣
i was at the game in carolina when he played for atlanta. i have never felt more sick. but with that, i couldn’t help but feel bad for him. he used to be one of my favorite players and i still can’t believe this happened to him
Thank you @FlemLoRaps for this video!! I always since my Ducks got him been a Marcus Mariota fan!! I still pray he shows the NFL his level of potential 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿👌🏿💯💯💯!!!
Being a die hard Oregon Ducks fan watching Mariota play for 3 years was/is my favorite era of Oregon football. His sophomore & and junior year, he was a monster.
As an Eagles fan, I don’t like this dude and it’s not even his fault. Chip Kelly ripped our team apart, chased this dude and failed miserably. I never gave him a chance after that, so I appreciate the perspective this video offers.
Man, got goosebumps watching that scene from when he got announced as Heisman winner. I was on the edge of my seat watching that as an oregon fan back in the day.
man i love mariota i had a mental breakdown when they lost to osu when i was little (i was 8) man that shit hurt me for so long sucks to think ab still i will always love that man no matter what
As a Titans Fan i was a fan of mariota, and it was a shame that the injuries and front office fumbling cut away at the potential he had. It would be great to see him rise up and prove he is that dude!
Wow just finished the ending is very powerful and I hope Marcus watches this and it lights that fire in him again!!! I hope he finds that fire again this year
As a life long Oregon Ducks fan, I loved Marcus. He was such a class act and respectful guy. Such a great role model. One of my favorite all time Ducks players! Hell, he even won Oregon our first Heisman! It *REALLY* sucks seeming him not have the same success he had here, in the NFL. Really hope he gets another chance!
Mariota was one of my favorites I ever watched in the collegiate level. My favorite Ducks QB. This one hit me personally. He was a very humble dude and quiet but his play on the field was on another level. In the pros he had signs of greatness but I can see his play and confidence declining. Regardless he shares a special place in our hearts in Eugene.
That's what makes the N.F.L. so tough. So many end up as orthopedic wreckage. It's a head on collision sport. And even without being hit the G-Forces while running could do you in with a massive injury. Daunte Culpepper was an Earl Campbell with a Bazooka Arm. For a while Daunte and Randy Moss Wrecked the league. Then a knee injury put an end to that duo. Mariota's knee and various other injuries did him in too. A pocket passer who has pocket awareness can survive knee injuries, but not a scrambler who improvises. No legs, No deal. Jerry Glanville summed it up best: N.F.L.=NOT FOR LONG!!!!
As a fan it's easy to dismiss what may be going on in someone's life and say that dudes a bum and lack compassion or empathy. I'm definately guilty of that. Thank you flemlo for the perspective you bring in your stories. 👍
Marcus did have some success with the Titans. 3 winning seasons and that win against the Chiefs in the playoffs was legendary! I used to watch him at Titans practice and he was always walking with his head down and seemed defeated a lot of the time. I just don’t think being an NFL starter and the big bright lights were ever a comfortable position for him. He always seemed uncomfortable with the media as well and wasn’t the greatest leader.
Marcus should hold his head up high. He is an inspiration to many, many people, not just people of Samoan or Hawaiian decent. Not everyone wins a Super Bowl but how many people can say they won a Heisman and was the #2 pick in the NFL draft - which was his childhood dream growing up "make it to the NFL!" and he did achieve that!! He is a success story and I hope he realizes that. Thanks Marcus for all that you have done and what you will do once you are done with football. I wish you the best, Leader!
Flem, I always dreamed about playing college golf. Made it and then got nerve damage from overpracticing. Grinded back to be a starter on my college team, then got hurt again, tried to come back and developed the yips. This video almost made me cry, theres always a way back! Thanks for the content.
Golfing is terrible for the body. It's a one-sided game that results in severe imbalances in the body. Think about it - hundreds of thousands of swings from just one side of the body - same with baseball, tennis, etc. Not good at all. I'd never play golf - even if I had the talent to be the best golfer in the world, I would not play that game. Look at all the top golfers - they all got serious injuries. All of them due to the repetitive, unbalanced nature of the game.
As the new QB for my Commanders, I'm hoping that we take he does beat out whomever we draft and that he gets our offensive going. I remember how he ALMOST beat us that year when we played each other. Great work as always.

@@ryancrawford4171 Tannehill was a former receiver and had similar rushing numbers to Mariota with a lot more touchdowns
or he just wasnt good
Another banger! Mariota had rough coaching luck, Whisenhunt, Mularkey, and Vrabel aren't exactly Reid, Shanahan, and McDaniel.
Im with u
Vrabel don’t coach offense and he’s not a bad head coach but Josh McDaniel is trash let’s be real
Vrabel was good, but Mariota was never Vrabel’s guy.
His time with the raiders seems like he was getting back some confidence even with the quad injury
@@ben-manvibing162 Then he crashed into Arthur Smith’s Falcons.
Got that man lookin 50 working on a play for his Roth IRA
lol
🤣🤣 I just said that. Stress will age your ass. Look at Colin Kaepernick. He looks 52 at 36.
By 50 it’s too late. Not enough time for interest to compound.

My dude
For real definitely hands down my favorite sport documentary channel. Surprised he doesn’t already have millions of subs yet.
ditto. flem the truth
I feel ya on that lol for all these years Flem has been my road dawg. I listen to your vids while driving and watch them if I'm not
I love this!!! Big Titans fan who lives in hawaii. Loved when we drafted Marcus, but when he broke his leg that sophomore season, he was never the same.
Any kids growing up in middle school back in 2013-14 wanted to be like mariota 💯 he’s always been that dude to so many people and I hope he never loses sight of that
Mrs. Tupper STOP killing kids’ dreams!!! @FlemLo Raps, those positive words you spoke to Marcus (everyone) made me cry. So true and powerful. Thank you for sharing
Damn. This one hit Flem. As a Titans fan, he absolutely still has the support of this fanbase. He went through a lot but always stayed true to himself. He's a great dude and I'll always root for his success. Never heard anything bad about him ever. And that says a lot on its own.
That ending of this video really hit me too personally. I know it's about Marcus but it kinda felt like you were talking to me lol As a person, I feel like I relate to Marcus' personality in some ways. Thanks for that one Flem!
Loved Bro on that Oregon Team ! Wishing him much love and continued success in this lifetime.
It will be epic to see Flemlo being interviewed on The Pivot Podcast. FlemLo you are the best storyteller of football athletes. I appreciate your research, your fair and unbiased opinions. Thank you for all that you do. Peace.
Mariota rushing TD with The Raiders on Turkey Day that was my favorite one cuz I was there
He is a quiet, positive guy. I met him and he was just relaxed with a ton of people around him. He just had a kid and as a new parent myself, it doesn’t surprise me in the slightest that he decided football was a job and his family comes first for him.
This was one of the best docs that you have done. Love it
As an FSU fan and a Jameis fan I got nothing but love and respect for Mariota but you ain’t have to remind me of the Rose Bowl and Week 1 of 2015😭
That was one of my all time favorite memories as a ducks fan watching Jameis just implode, I'm sorry but that was supposed to be a competitive game and it just about went as badly as possible for the noles in the second half.
@@phightinphil25 still hurts to this day because had Georgia Tech not done what they did we wouldn’t have had to face yall unless yall beat either Bama or Ohio State in the first round😭
I’m a Jags fan I didn’t wanna face Marcus Mariota he was good, but that draft with him and Winston they was hella hyped, I feel bad for Marcus that he couldn’t stay good he had a record for not throwing interceptions in the Red Zone, Money don’t buy happiness remember tjay
If he got us to the red zone you knew we were gonna score dude went like 3 seasons without a red zone int
@@TheDumbassstunts gotta respect greatness
As a titans fan he was everything I wanted as the face of the franchise. They didn’t do him no justice with all the changes but injuries happen which also slowed him down. Always wished him the best. Flem-Lo you need a damn documentary show your phenomenal.
Hopefully Marcus sees this. I’ve always rooted for him since he was in college and till this day still root for him. Great video and got me motivated late at night.
This was pretty powerful and personal in a way. Your parting words talking about confidence and knowing what to do with it hit me hard. Been going through a major life slump, your words I needed to hear, gave me goosebumps. It's been months since I watched anything on your channel, I'm glad I dropped in when I did. Thanks Flemlo. I'll show up and show love more often
Flem with another sure banger. Was never high on Mariota, personally. Too many manufactured throws in college. Wasn’t tested as a down field passer. He could have been good in the right spot, but he needed to be developed a lot more than advertised coming out of school.
Absolutely went to the wrong situation. If he was played like he did in Oregon, his entire career would have been different
I thought he had a shot to be pretty good, not great. But def good enough to get a 2nd contract with his first team.
I really needed to hear that speech you said about confidence. Thanks man
Videos like this give me fuel.
Good luck brother💯
Yo @FlemLoRaps those last few lines hit really hard & means a whole lot to more ppl than you know. It speaks truth & volume to how you should look at life don't give up & keep pushing. At some point you will break thru again & when you do your light will shine brighter than it did before. I appreciate you fam your videos also show the light at the end of the tunnel.
@FlemLoRaps does great videos on topics at angles that people often don't think about. I greatly enjoyed this video as on some level I can relate to Mariota and this reinforced some of the life lessons I've learned in life and am trying to pass on to my son. Let's get Flemo to 1 mil subscribers guys! He deserves it.
100%, high key, this video was therapeutic.
Him and Oregon are the same where it’s amazing that they made it as far as they did from small backgrounds but now that they peaked they are just content to keep business movin without ever breaking through to elite greatness.
Man.. Flemlo... your narriation.. is all ways dope. This time.. was extra special and heart warming. 💯
Damn FlemLo!! This was so well done!! This has been the case for a while but you’ve passed the category of “RUclipsr” and are an actually dope journalist!! This was informative and motivational and I even almost shed a tear there at the end!! Well done, bro!! Well done indeed!!
Been waiting on this Flemlo, thanks
Hands down the best storyteller on RUclips.
Thank you for shining some light on this amazing quarterback and man
One of my all time favorite college football players. From all accounts from former teammates, I hear that he is just a great all around dude!
I've always liked Mariota even before he came to Atlanta, and I wish him the best going forward
If he was drafted by Andy Reid I think he would have had a good career. He went to an organization that didn’t care, they tried to change him to a Tom Brady type of quarterback
Look at how good Lamar Jackson is right now because of how they built that offense around his strengths, Titans never did that. Mariota is best in a hurry up offense spread type offense, not slow paced huddle offense
Agreed imo mariota suffers from coming in the league 2 or 3 years too early before teams really began to embrace certain college offensive schemes i think mariota would have throved in an offense similar to what kingsbarry had with the short qb in arizona whose name is escaping me at the moment
the titans ruined him like all the other qbs before him, imagine if he had gone to a competent franchise with a good coach and coaching staff.
Just like they did VY
They got the Bengals OC now so that should stop. Tannehill was good and Levis is good.

Bro, much respect for doing this video. I hope Mariota sees this.
We still love Mariota, will never forget what he accomplished
That little speech at the end of the video was beyond beautiful
Always liked watching him play in that final year at Oregon and the early Titans days. A true Samoan warrior man, that's for sure. The 808 facemask fact blew my mind! All the best Flemlo, you just keep getting better and better with time bro.
Love Mariota. Wish him nothing but the best.
Thank you for showing me the history and character of Marcus. Being a Washington fan, I really hope he watches this video.
Great piece. I really hope Mariota sees this.
Flemlo always posting the best video essays on the nfl. This one and your Jamarcus Russell vid have been my favs for sure.
Just randomly came across your video. What a freaking excellent job man, you do such a great job and humanizing him and show how much heart he had.
Super inspired video to watch, thank you for all the time you put into it.
Outro gave me chills dawg, great vid🔥
I hope he sees this and hears your message at the end. You're a real one, Flem. Football is a brotherhood 💯
That's really good stuff man. Thank you
Shows you need more than yourself- esp in a team game! Environment & access to what you need to work is what makes or breaks your potential.
Getting Close to that 1M Bro Bro!! 🫡
i was at the game in carolina when he played for atlanta. i have never felt more sick. but with that, i couldn’t help but feel bad for him. he used to be one of my favorite players and i still can’t believe this happened to him
Thank you @FlemLoRaps for this video!!
So much respect to you for doing this. Thank you!
One of my favorite RUclipsrs bro u have a gift
Great video!!!
Flemlo is a very gifted storyteller!!!
Flem, your message to Marcus kinda opened my eyes.
Thank you
As an Eagles fan, I don’t like this dude and it’s not even his fault. Chip Kelly ripped our team apart, chased this dude and failed miserably. I never gave him a chance after that, so I appreciate the perspective this video offers.
@flemloraps This might be your best video yet! Love the writing and and narration and constructive input at the end.
FlemLo, your emotional intelligence is on that next level!
Man I like your videos. Well researched. I'm Samoan. Live in Hawaii. Played ball here. You did a great job.
After how his years with the titans ended I think it killed his mindset but he is still that guy. Maybe see him play for the commanders a bit
I remember tearing up when I saw him with the Falcons. He is too humble. 🌿
What a great way to wrap up this video.
"Arrogance is baseless, confidence is built." Damn FlemLo!!!
Salute flemlo great show as usual 💪💪💪
Meatless Mondays on a whole new level. Thanks for info on cookunity and gastroenterology, flemlo 🔥😂
Man i loved when he played for Oregon, he looked like a confident field general in complete control. I hope at some point he's able to get that back!
As the new QB for my Commanders, I'm hoping that we take he does beat out whomever we draft and that he gets our offensive going. I remember how he ALMOST beat us that year when we played each other. Great work as always.
