- I'm fly fishing what many consider the best trout stream in the United States in part 27 of the 2 month camping road trip. IMO, what makes this stream the best trout stream in the US...it's truly a wild, free flowing stream...exactly like it was hundreds of years ago. When you fish these streams you're stepping back in time, fishing for native trout in native water, much like our ancestors did! Take tailwaters for example, some would argue are better trout fisheries bc of the incredible fish size and numbers. But in most cases these were created by destroying a system to create a trout fishery. The world famous White River was once a warm water river home to all kinds of aquatic life which were destroyed to create a fantastic trout stream. So it's TRULY A SPECIAL gift to catch native trout from native ranges in wild, free flowing public water...nothing was destroyed... the same aquatic insects and inhabitants are still the same ones that have lived here since the beginning! It's home to big NATIVE westslopes, heard it had bulls too, holes full of fish, all styles work and it's a secret to most! Add on that any technique will work...I caught fish on nymphs, dries and streamers and it's not hard argue why many consider it the BEST TROUT STREAM in the US! It has become one of the best streams I have ever fished...truly a special place. That last hole was stacked with cutthroat!

When I think of wilderness, those are the images that come to mind. I knew you were going to pull big fish out of those deep holes. Love it when they jump out of the water for dry flies. Awesome!

I’m headed to ID next week and was trying to figure out where this stream river is located. I’ll be up near kelley creek but will be around 4 days or so and am looking to find some remote streams like the one in this video.
Glad I found your channel. I used to fish small streams with limited amounts if tackle when I was younger. I love to fish, so I started buying more and more stuff, expensive boats that cost more than my truck, etc. I admit, I’m able to go where big fish are and can get novices into high catch rates, but I’m not having any more fun and it’s become work. Time to check the waders for leaks, dust off the chest pack, and spend some time with a fly rod.

This is a spectacular place Drew. I wish I can pack up and leave now for 2 months on the road/river... This must be a trout heaven! There is a river such as this in California, that I explore and fish with great success. That too is a "secret" place for some. Just like your place but in CA. This is a great video Drew! thx
Definitely fortunate...took about 15 years to make it work but it's been worth all the sacrifice. The next few years should be pretty fun!

Love your passion for fishing and thank you for sharing it with us! I notice you tend to bring in many fish with line tension from your hand, not getting the fish onto the reel. I’ve lost some fish that way but I realize you have a much better feel than I do. Would you share your thoughts on this trade off? Thank you!
I only put fish on the reel when I need the drag. This allows me to repeat the drift and get back to fishing quicker since I already have the right amount of line out from the previous fish catching drift. Plus, you can strip in line faster by hand than a reel can pick up line which also gives you more time fishing.

I just stumbled onto this video and your channel. When you got down to the creek and could see it for the first time I said "Hey, that's where I was fishing in August this summer." I dropped down in the same exact place! This is my home area.. Great video, and appreciate you not naming places.

What a beautiful river - pocket water galore, and brimming with good-sized trout.
No crowds help the trout. People tend to destroy the big scheme of MN. If you care, think about your every step.

@@LooknFishy Me too. I had a Trout hit a Stimulator on the surface last summer in the same way. A Fly I never threw but had in my box for 20 years. Have more now though....

Awesome trout fishing they were so beautiful and I just loved the scenery I recently did a trout fishing video it is so peaceful especially since I have been distracted with school love that bait that you use I have the exact same one my favourite is the lucky strike spinners thought anyway have a happy Halloween!!

...I think this is the biggest water I've seen you fish in this series...I was wondering at the beginning what rod you would use or actually what rod I would use in that situation, would I use my 7'6" 3 wt. or the 9'6" 5 wt...beautiful country and a great video can't wait to see the next one...
I wish I had my 10ft 4wt here it...the extra reach would have been great! Was an incredible day and imo, the next couple are even better!

I will retire in May 2024. I am hoping to travel thru da U.P. via US-2 (St. Ignace, Michigan to Seattle) west to Montana and Idaho then drop south to Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico then head back to Michigan before the snow flies. Fishing all the way. I love your videos Drew. 925 days!

I recommend driving scenic hwy 12 from Missoula to Lewiston ID on your non-winter travels out west Sir. Goes through under-rated Bitterroot-Selway wilderness along it's magestic veins the Lochsa, Selway & Clearwater rivers. Outstanding country. Appreciate your service Mr Winston 🙏

Maybe you’ve covered this before but, how do you keep from getting lost getting back to the camp ground? Love the channel!
Typically there's a hiking trail so I just need to get back on it. I sometimes carry an orange cloth to mark where I came from the trail along the stream if it's not easily noticable...can see that in the Unbelievable size video...part 4 I think...right when I start fishing you can see an orange flag on the tree..
