Massive over growth and tree fall, little to no space to bow and arrow cast let alone roll cast and trout that will spook 30' out if you're being as quiet as possible. Spooked a pocket yesterday over 30' out by simply peeking through some vegetation. Rough conditions in every aspect. Even delicate presentations of dries can spook em. Landed a #14 stimmy bottom of a riffle and NOPE. Entire pool darted. Gotta put in WORK for those 6" trout 😂

“Once there were brook trout in the streams in the mountains. You could see them standing in the amber current where the white edges of their fins wimpled softly in the flow. They smelled of moss in your hand. Polished and muscular and torsional. On their backs were vermiculate patterns that were maps of the world in its becoming. Maps and mazes. Of a thing which could not be put back. Not be made right again. In the deep glens where they lived all things were older than man and they hummed of mystery.”

I will report back if I come across anything that strikes me!
I must warn you “The Road” is not about fishing. It’s a very sad tale about an apocalyptic event, and follows a man and son as they make their way in a world being undone around them. It can be a hard read. But it is one of my favorites by my favorite author, so maybe worth a read for you. The quote above is at the end of the novel and is a sort of lament at the destruction of the natural world, a loss of an ancient mystery and an undoing that cannot be made right again.
I am reminded of another story though called “Big Two Hearted River” by Hemingway.
It’s about a young man returned from World War 1 that seeks solace in nature and goes on a fishing trip.
      Anyways, happy fishing and reading.

When I was a young lad, I dreamed of being a professional musician. And, I ended up being just that, for over 40 years.
But, as I’ve grown older, now looking at my 60th birthday looming ever-larger on the near horizon, I dream of the day when I can retire, and spend my free time discovering new streams and rivers in which to throw a fly, and hopefully, if the gods are smiling, fooling a few wiley trout into rising to it.
Fly fishing is zen, it’s a spiritual experience...it’s...a religion.
For those who may laugh or roll their eyes at this, I’d suggest they experience the peaceful solitude of walking through a silent forest, or crossing a meadow on a misty Spring or Fall morning, creeping up on a stream, quietly stepping into the water, and casting a Blue Winged Olive, Zebra Nymph, or one of many caddis and streamer patterns, and hooking your very first trout...
Only THEN will you know that what I’m saying is true.

I would go out at 6 in the morning, cross the road to the beaver pond and catch 2 x 8" - 10" trout in 10 minutes. Go back to the cottage and cook trout and eggs for breakfast for my wife and I.
