This is one of those incidents where even if you're someone who's invested (emotionally or otherwise) in the Amico and been sold on the nostalgic idea of what it is, the alarm bells should still be going off for you. If a basic marketing move such as a deep dive can reveal something as amateurish as stolen assets (in a small scale production one screen tank game no less), at that point, it's not just the Emperor has no clothes.
It's that the Emperor is streaking naked across the streets while possibly shouting about chip shortages.
The problem is they're not FOR Tommy or the Amico so much as they're AGAINST the "haters". That's why they can't be dissuaded. They don't need proof Tommy is right, they just need to prove when haters are wrong, even if it's the most tenuous victory. Even if they have to change to accept lies as a way to prove you wrong, because The Secret. Is the same way Qtards and the like work.
The "placeholder" comment further falls apart when you realise just how much tweaking they did to these images. If they were placeholders, why try to obfuscate the origins of the image? Why wouldn't it just be the actual image, maybe with a note on it that it's to be replaced at some point? Lies upon lies.

Exactly. Proof of concept must have been a ride in the Talarico Ferrari and a napkin sketch. And to those of us who were interested in a new Intellivision we best go visit pawn shops and buy old ones. This system is past due and needs newer, more professional leadership. For two grown men to "deep dive" this simple tank game are think they are even close to enticing us is ridiculous.
Amico is the clown car that never runs out of clowns.
Why do these games all have "placeholder" assets in still? I thought the delay was purely down to Covid-related hardware shortages? Isn't that what they claimed? Why was it so jerky? It's as simple as it gets, yet runs like that. Still not optimised? How long does it have to go? Wasn't this thing supposed to release last year? We all know that was BS now if this is the state of these simple-ass games. Yet more evidence of the complete BS spouted by the Amico team.
There is no getting this stuff running smoothy. The Amico is using a low end mobile SOC that originally launched in 2015 that was never meant to do anything but run a basic android experience, not games. This IS optimized lol It's probably legitimately the smoothest they could get this thing running on the hardware available to them.
Here's my theory. No developers are getting paid, at least not on a consistent basis to work non-stop on these games. They are dragging their feet on everything to keep spending at a minimum and using a skeleton crew, not an assortment of developers working full-time for the company.

The Amico fans coming out with "they paid for the images!" just shows how their automatic response is to simply lie however they can to defend Tommy and the Amico. It's just bizarre, especially considering how old they all are.

That’s interesting as a designer myself I usually use the label “FPO” (For Position Only) in my digital design pieces before the finalized piece.

Unfortunately for him, insanity can be used as criminal defense, but very rarely has any weight in civil law (unless the persons mental health basically incapacitates them- but mental handicap can be argued. Basically, "I'm so dumb, the onus is on you for giving me this contract, because no reasonable person could believe that I was capable of fulfilling it). Depends on the state, but Tommy has the requisite IQ below 85.
This is what happens when your company's president is a narcissist. Tommy is completely unable to accept blame, criticism, or personal failures, and surrounds himself with yes men because his self esteem is so fragile. No matter how disastrous the events/videos are, no matter how horrible the hardware, games and tech are, Tommy's ego will see to it that this system gets stuffed in a box and shipped, even if he has to sink the company to do it.
Can they do anything right? It seems every single step of the way they have fallen flat on their face and failed miserably.
Only thing they have been successful at is never releasing the damn console when they say they will.

I'm sure I've played a flash game just like this in high school back in 08. I was some what interested in this system (wasn't going to buy it) but now I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. Hard pass.

I get it was a game that came out in '82 but there was a serial Killer named The Night Stalker in the 90s.
Kinda hurts to many people who grew up with the original Intellivision in the 80s. ALMOST an insult, in fact. If I were you, I'd save the money and buy the Evercade and the Intellivision cart for it.
I was on the 2600 and Coleco side of things. But this should be an all out, full stop insult to intellivision fans.
As with the Streamlabs drama recently, placeholder graphics are fine and commonly used, that isn't the problem but Intellevision and Tommy don't seem to understand that using stolen graphics as those placeholder graphics is not standard.
Especially when these placeholder graphics were meant for a game that should have released several months ago and should have been worked on for 18 months.
Let's keep it real. With the exception of Earthworth Jim, which mysteriously disappeared, every Amico game looks like a demo that isn't fleshed out enough to be a commercial product or a game that was already published years ago, like Evel Knievel. Even if everything goes according to plan for the Amico team, they have a half baked console without a real library of titles at launch.
If they released a earthworm Jim game would that redeem them?

we made these kinds of games in 10th grade in the first month of my introductory computer science class using gamemaker studio. we made a tank game that looks virtually the same as this as well as pong and asteroids clones. this is not even college project level lol

Imagine having to steal assets from vastly more successful Tank games that have been around for years, and that have and will provide more entertainment with their Single games than the Amico itself ever will. Says it all really doesn't it.
The Gizmondo did come out, I bought one. It was a pretty good little handheld. I bought it because I'm weird and I love underdog game machines. I have loads of consoles that had promise but didn't make it, like the Nokia N-Gage, the Tapwave Zodiac, the Xavix GamePort, the Memorex VIS, the GameWave DVD player, and the Nuon... but I'm not touching the Intellivision Amico. Too many unrealistic promises and not enough facts. Maybe if I come across one under $50 in a thrift store, I'll go for it. But I don't think it's going to make it on to store shelves at this point.

Pat, you hit it right on the head. So far, only Night Stalker and Cloudy Mountain would pass the test of "Intellivision today". A bunch of the other stuff they have showed off look unappealing because there is no consistency or standard to tie it to the Amico as an Intellivision. They've had over two years to nail this down and set some kind of visual standards. If the system is not that powerful, lean into its pixel style games and make something bold for 2021. This doesn't deliver.
Its like if Action 52 got an upgrade without the Cheetahmen and each game cost 10.99 or more lmao.
Seriously, all they need to do, without Tommy's input, is take every single hit Intellivision had at the time, upgrade the graphics, and sell it as one giant pack. THEN, once that is out there, start releasing better games. Correct me if I'm wrong but every single console has done this. Mario wasn't the epitome of NES gaming by far, but it got you in. Launch titles are only there to draw you in and then the real games come later.
The FAQ on the website says the console won’t be released until the first quarter of 2022. Does this mean it got delayed again or that only a select few will get theirs before the end of 2021?

Here's what I See from coming into this entire intellivision amico scandal just like 3 day ago. Basically a video game guy from the 90s tried to make a crappy 90s like garbageware console using the same scummy and shitty deceptive marketing practices that many of these shitty companies with failed consoles did back then... But in the 2020s..... That shit ain gonna work today lol. You can get something like the amico from China with built in games there is about 500 different choices.
Also I don't understand why any1 at any point thought this was a good idea... And I am a retro gamer in my mid 30s, I have my original NES, SNES, and N64 for crying out loud... Shouldnt this thing have been somewhat appealing to me?

I've worked with dozens of developers. Rarely do they use placeholders like this. Usually they say FPO or use grey boxes for this exact reason. The game industry is small and people tend to have long memories.

It's basically a skinned Armour Ambush (2600) Armor Battle (Intelivision) both by M Network (Mattel) which both of those are clones of Atari's Combat that came first, only "better" graphics on the play field.
I guess this proves that even if they would have just focused on releasing these games on Switch or across all consoles that probably wouldn't have happened either.. money is moving here, where is it going and for what?

Depending on the team size, making something like this could take something along 3 to 4 months maybe, depending how professional the team is. Pats one month guess seems too little, in that timw you could maybe have the core mechanism working. Making games is not a linear problem in time, it can take a lot of time just to figure out what is the core mechanism. That said, this should be one of the bundled games, not something you buy separately imo.
More material for that future episode of "American Greed" about Tommy.
