- The cast of Christopher Nolan’s new film Oppenheimer left its London premiere early to “go and write their picket signs” ahead of a strike by Hollywood’s largest actors’ union.
Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon and Sir Kenneth Branagh were among the stars who staged the walk-out ahead of the screening of the historical epic at the Odeon Luxe in Leicester Square on Thursday.
The move came ahead of an announcement later in the evening by Sag-Aftra, an American union representing around 160,000 film and television actors, that its members had voted to strike for the first time in decades.
Speaking on stage at the premiere ahead of the strike announcement, Nolan said: “I have to acknowledge the work of our incredible cast, led by Cillian Murphy.

remember y’all; this has NOTHING to do with anyone in particular. this is a star studded cast with an amazing director and they’re all amazing, great people. it has EVERYRHING to do with making sure the writers for these movies are paid enough for the work they do; which they haven’t been for a long time now.
It’s much more than that, it’s with ai taking BG actors jobs, the actors are on strike too now just not the writers
noo, these people are leaving because of the actor's union's decision to strike, not writers... Both are happening at the same time however
Writing Y'all humanises your comment. Good work AI.
Not just writers! Actors whose shows and movies we watch over and over and over again!
They are paid plenty, they just want more and know that their work is easily replaced by ai
They all know how hard it is because at one point in time they were all struggling actors too and directors too.
Thats pretty amazing that theyre all backing eachother. Wish yall the best!
These people should learn to work.
-Covid-19 (Tenet)
-Hollywood strikes (Oppenheimer)
It must have been a three horrible years for Chris Nolan
Worst case scenario he can add it into Fortnite again like last time (Tenet)
Unlike Covid, this won't affect box office performance. Also unlike covid, writers strike exists only in America. Respect to the writers though. Nolan says he won't work on another movie until the strike has concluded.
@@galvinpro Its not that he "wont". He is straight up not allowed to. Anyone belonging to the WGA is strictly forbidden from working at the moment.
The strike only happens in Hollywood the rest of the world don't care
@@sammybutler3027 It's a movie about a physician
Remember when the actors and writers went on strike to protect the stuntman and carpenters building sets that were put out of work by CGI. yeah me neither.
I screamed. Well put!
That's why Nolan supports practical effects
That’s a very good point!!
That must not have received enough attention for anyone to care. Only reason they are doing this now is for their image. They all have been paid crazy money for movies. I wonder how many shared that with writers
I can't wait to see this film with a great cast!!! We got your back Cillian Murphy! ❤
It’s Boring. Very Boring.
Speak for yourself. Thousands of people are being laid off from production companies because of this strike. Just so these actors and writers can get a little more money...
Seriously, wtf?
@@thevanishingsaxon663 Which would happen normally anyway. It was never a full time job.
give an oscar to cillian murphy, this film is a masterpiece
Well he got it good prediction
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck made sure everyone got a piece of the pie if they work with them.
And the late actor/comedian Robin Willams, when one of his films went ‘on location,’ either he or a production assistant had to go find ‘x’ number of homeless to work on the film, ‘give them the dignity of a day’s work and a day’s wages.’
@@AdamFontenet-iy3tbthrough their production company Artists Equity, their first film being Air.
Lol seems like most people in the comments don’t understand how hard these people work and that the strike is a sign of solidarity- they will always get work, they’re striking for the massive issue of unfair profit split (resulting in untenable living) for the majority of actors who work so hard and get nothing when they actually do ‘get a break’. Please do some research on how things have changed for creatives since the streaming boom. It’s complete gross greed.

I love the way how these guys care about the little people. Like the little people behind the scenes who are all still forced to wear facemasks while the actors and writers are not.
Lol this is just a career stunt nothing new normal day in hollywood sheep town
No they don’t, they literally have to by being part of the actors guild, or their careers would be on the line. It’s all one big virtue signal
Nobody wears face masks
They are all big name actors and know how the game works. They knew writers weren’t being paid well but they were, so who cares. They are just doing this now so they don’t look like a holes and preserve their image.
‘Actors strike.’ Oh those poor elites.
Good for them. Support the writers. 👍😎
Most of what they write is woke communist indoctrination, so no, don't support the writers, the actors, or hollywood.
I hope they all go get good paying jobs doing something else.
No one needs TV shows or movies to have a good life.
Such Heroes….
Then why did they even come to the premiere? Not being present at all would have been a bigger statement.
Same thing I said… that's why I can't really take these lots serious
Didnt know Vern from Stand by me played Oppenheimers love interest
That’s funny I just walked out of opperheimer
I personally think a lot of Nolan's films have too much talking. They focus too much on Shakespeare language that no average person in this world would behave. Too much so that it begins to feel forced. It's hard to pick up on what they are saying without subtitles especially with actors that have strong accent. Inception could've been done better with less talking making us audience feel like the movie is too easy to analyze. They don't need to explain everything by dialogue. Makes my brain fry.
Personally, I think it’d be hilarious if this strike were to trigger a “Boycott Hollywood” movement. 😂
It would’ve been if the DGA didn’t chicken out
Right, why even see their stupid movie. They are on strike. Let's go on strike against these movies 👏
@@spiritranger9202and what will that achieve ?
There already is a boycott on Hollywood.. problem is that Hollywood is to greedy arrogant and stupid to realize it.. primadonnas come to mind
@@spiritranger9202the strike isn’t for Tom cruises and will smiths of the world it’s for normal people with family’s and homes that write for these people and wanting to not be shafted anymore when these productions make hundreds of millions
they didn't walk out of countless hours of promotion interviews but good job :P
8 months already?? damn time flies
The wildest thing is the last time there was a strike to this level was for this _newfangled technology called _*_television._* Now there's new tech called _streaming_ to negotiate.
Here's rooting for the unions and union workers!! I hope they get the fair deal they deserve :)
Studios are in a huge amount of debt. That doesn’t excuse the exorbitant salaries of the CEOs but it is the truth. They are all going bankrupt.
Good.
Well, there's probably a downside I haven't seen.
They have to go bankrupt ! CEOs are evil !
Oh, no, no new TV-shows... Maybe I can manage to catch up a bit then.
like 200 of last decade shows.
Lmao rich actors bonding😂
Amazed how actors feel like they’re important people. They play make believe for a living. The end.
They are already extremely over payed.
The bulk of actors aren't mega stars, and work long hours for what they get.

Glad to see they finally went through with the strike when their checks cleared
Doctors and nurses should strike …. They deserve some of those profits from pharmaceutical companies.
Er…. True if they are hired by private, if they are government, they should demand it from the current government
I think there are bigger issues in the pharmaceutical industry aside from how they split the pay….
The way things stand these days, with corporations and a few billionaires hoarding all the money and normal people barely being able to afford a living, we all should strike.
In Britain nurses and doctors have been on strike
@@gnite6go to a communist country then?
This made a bigger impact than the Cobalt Mines. Kinda disheartening
Walks out of premiere - how brave 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I'm here for Feynman.
Those poor writers, my heart bleeds. Luckily there is so much talented independent content out there ive not noticed this "strike".
Wait… they want more profits? I didn’t realize Hollywood was making profit outside Tom Cruise movies. Do they have to give their salary back if a movie bombs? Cause fair is fair.
Not just their salary, they should bail out their movies with their $$$ in the bank.
Tom Cruise movies don't make money either my guy. The last MI movie bombed because of how much they spent to make it.
Matt Damon looks old as hell like damn Tom Cruise looks younger than him .
Rich people helping rich people stay rich !! Classic America
I hope all actors stay on strike forever.
Rich people wanting more money ....
Not true, most SAG and WGA workers aren't big name writers and actors they're regular people trying to make a come up in the industry ruclips.net/video/tlj-5kPl6fU/видео.html
That showed em!
Showed up to walk out.🙄😬🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
If they didn’t show up, it would just be news without video and photos for publicity for the movie as well as the actor’s strike. It serves both purposes.
That’s probably why some of the actors didn’t make an appearance, they knew what was going to happen and saved themselves the trouble.
This is also a promotion of film
Edit: sure
What a crock of news!
I wonder why they decided to go on a strike right now..Are they saying this is the first time with this AI problem?
it’s happening now because their contract is expiring and their union and the group representing the leading studios failed to reach a new deal.
If only the PUBLIC would BOYCOTT all of HOLLYWOOD completely.
I wouldn’t walk out
No more tv shows and movies for a while? well, its time to watch anime and asian movies :3
There are millions of us who are not even slightly interested in doing that...😊
They should become teacher. Or nurses. That’s where the real work is with similar salary issues.
Its basically a mini series of three interesting storys liked to Oppenheimer made into a 3 hour long movie 😅 The acting was superb but the adaptation was all over the place. The actual science was over shadowed by Oppenheimers love interests and his unfavourable treatment by the government.
The end is near
i wish rappers went on strike...permanently
😂😂😂😂
Bro Kendrick and Kanye are good chill bro we can get rid of Drake and 6ix9ine tho lol
In the meantime, production crew and post production people are going out of jobs due to these stupid strikes.....they need to think of the consequences before they do such stupid stuff. Mass layoffs happening as we speak.....
Oppenheimer wud be proud if he were alive
The writers who wrote top gun Maverick and movies like Oppenheimer were paid very well. Writers who pen crap that no one likes and/or lose money. They dont get paid much... Shocker. Write better and theyll be paid better.

I didn't even know they showed up to walk out.. They look so excited and happy with all the cheering..
Or they participated in the strike because they knew it would look good + they technically wouldn’t have jobs without the writers creating the scripts. 😬 Just sayin’.
Actually they have to participate in the strike cause if a union strikes then everyone has to strike
so all these multi millionaire celebs are striking over pay?
Oh no, whatever shall we do 😂
Movie must be pretty bad if walked out on their own movie.
Happy to see Rami malek here , our elliot has came a long way.
Cracks me up that the actors dipped during the screening but not during the red carpet for the strike. If they missed the red carpet it would have actually affected the industry’s ability to create content/profit off them. We all know most of these legit methody actors don’t even like watching themselves anyway lol
The strike was called while they were already there so they pretty much had to leave because they are union actors.
the strike was called mid red carpet so they left and respected it.
They can leave and start learning to code
They used the red carpet to talk about the union demands which is a good thing because they can voice their demands to journalists. That's how I see it!
They have to promote the movie it's in they're contract I believe the studios own their rights from movies
Why dont those A list actors share their salary with the lower ranks....walk the walk😂😂😂😂
Look at the movie stars "acting" like they care about anyone other than themselves...
Yeah, and when they talk to the press and make up their own words, aren't they putting a writer out of work? *SCABS!*
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah dang crazy
God, I fancy the pants off of Flo
Florance Pugh, I hate that Nolan choose her wish cill
Well go on blow your whistle!
That's fine. I won't be supporting any of these actors or their projects anymore.
Maybe these big earning actors should take a pay cut to really show their support these struggling actors and people involved? All talk, that’s what they do with any cause talk about it when they are financially able to help.
The pay cut is not taking more work... They're already doing that
It is call tax return.
These people think they’re irreplaceable. Similar to the air traffic controllers. (It got them in the unemployment line.).
