    Jeff, I know this video is old but do you recall what remote start you added to your Jeep? Did it integrate with the fob you already had? I'm looking to add power locks and remote start to my 2016 jku.

    • @jeffcrowell1975
      @jeffcrowell1975  6 месяцев назад +1

      It had its own remote. They make kits now that bolt on a lot easier.

    This is pretty late lol but it should be pins 5&6 5 is mux 6 is return. But you might need the option added to the bcm programming so it knows the option is added and to look for the signal

    No one around my city will install because they say it voids any warranty 😩 I really would like a remote lock and unlock. I didn’t real size how convenient it was until I got my Jeep that didn’t have it

    • @jeffcrowell1975
      @jeffcrowell1975  4 года назад

      Patrick I’m the same way. They do have kits that make this so much easier. I thought I could do the manual locks and windows. Nope. I added both because I couldn’t stand it. Look for the kits that make this so much easier.

  • @aland2253

    I’m wondering if I couldn’t buy the cheap kit, like yours, and make mounting plates from some sheet metal and hook directly into the latch, like the expensive kits do. Anybody try that? PITA, but seems totally doable.

    • @jeffcrowell1975
      @jeffcrowell1975  Год назад +1

      Yes. I did this for a friend. Get it mounted to the door and aligned with the latch as straight as you can get it. It works cleaner and less mess. I didn't get a video of it but it really works better.

    tried this today after stripping lock cable the clamps wont hold the wire tight enough? did i do something wrong cut braids out of way adn peeled back plastic cover

    • @jeffcrowell1975
      @jeffcrowell1975  5 лет назад

      Christopher Buckler it’s been awhile since I did this. I had to cut about 1 to 1 1/2 inches of the plastic cover then snip the little wires. I think after that I took a flat piece of metal and folded it around the wire. The little bracket that the kit came with kept slipping on me. If it was me doing it now I would put a the bracket on there and use something like JB weld to hold it in place. I found out after I did this there is a lever on the door lock and they make a kit that use them instead. It cost something like $200. This is all going on memory so it could have changed by now.

    Hey. I do have 2012 JK Sahara. And i am wondering 2016 did not come with the auto lock mechanism? I am seeing the windows are not automatic so maybe the doors can not lock with FOB. But i am very shocked if 2016 did not come with the FOB lock/unlock feature!

      2016 have power locks and doors. It's an $3200 upgrade. I did this for $40. power windows aren't a big deal to me. The locks I can't stand. These work great.

    Were you able to pop the door panels back on and have no rubbing? I did a similar install and now I've realized I didn't plan well enough and my 3rd party actuators aren't recessed enough for the door panel to fit over them. Wondering if I should have just bought an actuator that more closely resembles the OEM ones, though not sure if those even fit in my doors. Thoughts?

    • @jeffcrowell1975
      @jeffcrowell1975  4 года назад +1

      hau5er I did trim I believe some of the plastic in the door panel. Just a small notch were it might make contact. I know I trimmed the inside panels. I did find out later it was better to get closer to the lock itself. That way you don’t have to splice the cable. This is how the OEM locks and unlocks. Of course I found that out after I did this.

    Hi Jeff, I know this video was made a while ago, but I am just wondering how will did the locks hold up over time? DO you currently still have them installed on your Jeep? I just bought a 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4 door, and I am looking for something similar to this!

    • @jeffcrowell1975
      @jeffcrowell1975  3 года назад +1

      I have now sold the Jeep but they worked perfect. There is another system out there now that is designed to work better then what I had to do. I installed this on my brother-inlaws jeep about a year ago and it was so much faster and cleaner. Here is a link to this www.a1electric.com/jeep-jklocks.htm.

    • @jeffcrowell1975
      @jeffcrowell1975  3 года назад

      If I could have done it all over again I would have not attached to the wire. The door latch has the trigger built into it and gives you a stronger point of contact to lock and unlock. If you don't want to get the kit I sent you then you can take a look at how it is designed and mimic it. It's less time to install and better results.

    Hi Jeff! Do you have a video of the placement for the module and where all the cables go through the engine bay? I'm having hard time figuring it out..

    • @jeffcrowell1975
      @jeffcrowell1975  5 лет назад

      Federico Tunesi I put the module right under the steering wheel. I ran the power on the driver side. The power door locks don’t need a dedicated power to the battery. You can use a constant power. On the driver side you can go through the firewall. There is 2 spots that have rubber grommets you can punch a hole in.

    • @jeffcrowell1975
      @jeffcrowell1975  6 лет назад +1

      John Fox I used a wire snip. Cut the little wires on the outside. You don’t need to do it that way. On the you have a lever. You want to attach it to it. It works better that way.

    Did you ever make the bracket for your gate ?

    • @jeffcrowell1975
      @jeffcrowell1975  7 лет назад +1

      I didn't need to make a bracket for it. What I did was if you pop that black vent off on the back gate you will see the locking system. At the bottom of the lock is a white lever with a hole in it. It is located on the bottom towards the inside of the lock. That level just moved up and down. This is the over ride lever for the door lock. Side note all the door locks on the jeep are setup this way. So when you see people drilling holes in the doors this is what they are doing instead of attaching to the wire. This is the level that the factory power lock would hook too. I installed mine just under that. It is installed facing up at a slight angle. You will have to drill 2 holes in the back door to hold the lock in place. It doesn't mount right to the inside you will meed to put a spacer between the lock and the inside door. I thing I used a 2 1/2 in bolt that was maybe 1/8in round. I want to say I have about 1/4in spacer. You will have to play with the angle to get it right. didn't take long to find that sweet spot and i have not had any problems with that lock. good luck and if you have any question let me know.

    Does it come with a remote or not to open from the out side

    • @jeffcrowell1975
      @jeffcrowell1975  7 лет назад

      jrdoradog yes it does come with the remote to lock and unlock the doors. There is also another way to add power door locks but it involves drilling 2 holes in the door just under the locking mechanism. I had to do this to the passenger side door because it was getting bound up when trying to unlock. Either way works perfectly fine.

    • @jeffcrowell1975
      @jeffcrowell1975  6 лет назад

      No. You only need to find a 12 volt power and ground to make this work. I ran a power wire straight from the battery. There is a site out there now that makes these kits that with make the install easier. No cutting into the wire or anything. Last I seen it was about $150 for the whole kit.

    • @jeffcrowell1975
      @jeffcrowell1975  5 лет назад +1

      Armando Campos you have to buy another 5 wire door lock aka master door lock. It’s like $10. You will wire it up to the same wires the master is on the driver side door.

      Brian Johnson ran power and ground straight from the battery. I had it tied into another power source but it seemed the doors would work 80% of the time. once I did the direct connection I have had no problems with it.

    I'm glad this works for you, but anyone else watching this video, for god's sake, do not do this to your new car (or any car). If your only plan for installing parts is to hack the sh!t out of the factory components, you are doing it wrong and should consult a professional or do more research.
    This can be done much more cleanly and completely avoid cutting of the interior panel.

    • @jeffcrowell1975
      @jeffcrowell1975  8 лет назад

      thanks for the feedback. What would you have done different to make this work? just for future reference.

    • @sirguise1495
      @sirguise1495 8 лет назад

      Remove the interior door panel and mount the actuator inside the door at the actual lock mechanism. There is a hole in the locking mechanism that the brass rod can be inserted directly. Eliminates any cutting of the interior panel.
      In order the remove the interior panel, there are two knockouts at the bottom of the panel that give you access to release the window from the carrier.
      I have not done my rear doors yet, but assuming they will be very similar. I added a few pics to my google drive, I should have taken more, but it will help explain the concept.

      I looked at that option but I didn't want to drill hold in the door and show the screws. I wanted it to still look factory and if it didn't work you couldn't tell I did anything. I weighed all my options before doing anything. I have had these on for months now and work perfect. Your way is a great way too I just couldn't bring myself to drill them holes

    • @sirguise1495
      @sirguise1495 8 лет назад

      Agree to disagree. I took the screws over potential structure issues with the interior panel.
      I will also be painting the heads with the body color when I complete the rear.

      +SirGuise when you do get done make a video and post it. I seen some pictures of your way but no one has videos. I love getting other ways of doing stuff. If for some reason my way fails I might redo it and try your way. Show how to detached the window from the interior panel. That was a bitch for me until I figured it out. If you do this send me the link. I'll add it to my comments on here. I'm sure some people out there would love to get 2 or 3 options while doing this. I post my videos to show what I did and my problems to better help other not make the same mistakes.

      bimbo948 it's not that bad. They now have a kit for 230$ that is setup to use factory bolt holes. This was a couple days of trial by error. So far it has worked flawlessly. Get ready to start power windows with oem stuff. About $500 total.
