    As a jazz composer…..
I love to sit at this old Baldwin where I can to sketch out “hopefully” memorable ballads..lol
Excited to have my debut album by Christmas ( if all goes well)… lol
Kinda weird for a 66 year old to be debuting anything …. but….
It’s a loooog stooory as to why… lol
    Anyway,
    ….. I’ve got to change a broken E flat / E string on the 7 th octave.
    Yeah,
I will tune it up….. but I will also hire an expert to tweak that tuning…lol
I inherited my mother & dad’s old house 14 years ago. This family of 10….all scattered about…. living their lives.
Funny dad’s been gone 25 years and mom gone for 13…… but…. It feels like just yesterday they were here!!!
I can still “ feel “ their loving spirit….. their smile of approval just kinda floating in the air…..as I walk in the yard…. water the roses…..🌹
The pictures of your family were heartwarming!!!
    What a AWESOME family tree!!!!!!!
Just wanted to thank you for taking the time to introduce your mom.
She was soooo excited to be part of your video….. what A LOVING SON YOU ARE!!!
May you and your darling wife stay close …. “and in love”…. FOREVER… you make a cutest couple!!
Nice job on that BEATLES tune too!!!
    Well,
I better get into my studio and start that tuning job now…… but…. maybe a fresh cup of coffee to take with me first??
Thanks again,…. ( you too mom!!!!)
    God bless 🕯

Thank you very much for your thoughtful and lengthy message. Best wishes getting that E string replaced and with your debut Christmas album. One is never too old (or young) to express their creativity through music and release it to the world.

Thanks for posting this! I am new to learning to tune my vintage spinet and a string broke. I feel more hopeful after seeing this that I can repair my piano. Your mom is too cute!

good job ! You'll probably have to tune a new string a couple times for it to keep proper pitch as they stretch a bit at first

If you look inside a Bosendorfer Imperial Concer grand, you'll see that the treble wire doesn't go down around the pin and back again. It's individual pins, 3 for every note. So one broken string menas just fiddling with one tuning pin.

Not much point in the video if you don't show how to do it. I have to replace a broken string. So I'll have to go to another video to find out. It's like"showing"how to bake a pie with parts of the procedure missing.

First thing is -----get some clean gloves to stop perspiration getting on the string .It makes them rusty with the acids .

use a tuning hammer so as to not damage the tuning pin shape and star shape edges

Says right there it was patended feb 3 1880 so for it to be 100 years old they would have had to have kept it in production for over 40 years.. Possible, but few things stay in production for that long so it certainly could be over a 100 years old.

What about aligning the strings through the stagger pins down below? You left out an important part.

Recently I am thinking to replace my piano strings. I watched what you did, very impressive. I wonder what kind of piano string you bought from Amazon. Could you pls tell me seller’s name? I have 3 broken strings at high pitch section. Looks like they are the same gauge. So I want to order a few feet long. Thank you very much.

Hello! I replaced a string following this video, but my problem now is that the string makes very little sound. Its as tight as the normal pins but doesnt make any sound, and usually if its not in tune it would still be very audible but its not for me. Is there anything I might've done wrong?. Please help, thanks

With all of the pranks on your channel, it's hard to believe this is legit. If it is legit, it sounds like something is touching the string that should not be and causing it to be muffled.

A Fischer piano from 1880 --overstrung and underdamped with a nice tone . Hang onto that one . But what about the bridge pins ? You forgot about them . And get rid of the Mole grip .

didn't understand where is the part where you actually replace the string...should at least change the name of the video it's confusing

Sounds like you have some loose ribs in the sound board. Also be mindful of the iron-wound strings in the tenor section. they are often the most brittle. I presume that someone renewed all the bridle tapes before you ever removed the action. With old sticker actions like this, that can really be a pain in the butt.

  • @studentjohn35
    @studentjohn35 2 года назад

a lot easier if you remove the fall board FIRST!

Please never use locking pliers on a piano. If you strip the tuning pin, the pin will never be tunable again. He skips very important parts of installation in this video- hire a tech if you don't want to scratch up the insides and save a LOT of headache. Keep in mind that the string will *never* sound like the other strings again, it'll always be brighter.
