    When Sumiko asked Prof Kishore for his response to the label of him being pro-China. I hear Prof Kishore's revelation about his motivation to speak for China, which was - the desire to tell the China story well in the face of the powerful Anglo-Saxon voices (that in his opinion has caused an imbalance in the global debate).
    To me, this bears some similarities to the narrative of Mr Philip Chan who was the first person designated a politically significant person under our FICA law earlier this year.
    In a Straits Times article titled "Who is Philip Chan, the man against whom S’pore has invoked its foreign interference law?" dated 2Feb2024, and also in a CNA article dated 28Feb2024 titled "Analysis: Why Philip Chan was deemed to have 'crossed a red line' under Singapore's foreign interference law": - it was reported that "Mr Philip Chan Man Ping....believed in uniting overseas Chinese to tell China’s story. “It is our duty as overseas Chinese to tell China’s story well....,” he told Chinese media outlet Chinese Headline New Media (Huaren Toutiao) in a March 2023 interview....." (extracted from ST) and "...In an interview with Chinese media outlet Huaren Toutiao, he said his influence remained “limited" despite publishing articles in Lianhe Zaobao. "Since we can only do little alone, we therefore need to be more united,” he wrote, adding that Western media had “smeared” China and discredited its Belt and Road initiative...." (extracted from CNA)

      @AndenFive 2 месяца назад +2

      @@johnwong4424 I hear your view. However, intent is not as clearly evaluated as seeing the similarities of words used by both Mr Philip Chan and Prof Mahbubani.
      Hence I, for one, am happy that there is a mechanism under FICA for - Mr Chan, and anyone else including Prof Kishore if he is ever served notice under FICA, that allows one to clear his/her name and demonstrate what the real intent is to the Registrar of Foreign and Political Disclosures and the MHA.

    My top pique with his proposition that the US regime's persistent attempts to discredit, if not destroy China's decades of progress, is that the US regime has no great strategy to achieve that goal. So the question that disturb me is, Is he supporting the US regime's actions of hampering China's development and progress? If not, why is he educating the US regime how it could do so successfully?

    The views of many sgporeans today are are not trully neutral. There is a slight lean towards the West. This is all understandable and predictable after decades of western investments and western media exposure.
    Its also been part of the social engineering by the Gov, and no doubt its been beneficial overall since Merdeka.
    AND now, the world order is changing as we enter the Asian century.
    And im sure what we are starting to see today, including this episiode on ST, is also part of the social engineering to slowly lead a mindset change in the society to follow the tide. In 10 to 15 years time, the views of most sgporean will be leaning slightly to the East.

    I fully agree with dr kishor. If we "read" deeper into his meaning, we will understand. There needs to be a balance. It is exactly the western anglo sacson idea is very much verbal, we need an equally verbal counter to balance it out. By being the way he is, he is balancing. He is pro singapore. Ppl might view him as pro china, but time and again, no. He is pro information. He wants the west to understand asia. Time and again he have emphasise not singapore, but asia as a whole. When u have global power like china and US. U need an almost equal power to be compared. Thats where asia comes into play. There, u will have the major geographic plates in power; russia, US, china, india and eurozone.

    There is one thing that needed to be corrected here.
    Who are the Anglo-Saxons to whom Mr Mahbubani were referring? If he meant westerners, or people of European descent, say so.
    The Anglo-Saxons were people who inhabited the region of England and Wales from about the 500 CE to 1066 CE.
    Even the English people today cannot be ethnically labelled as Anglo-Saxons.

    I very much thankful for Dr. Mahbubani's effort! Yes, most Chinese not being affluent in English is one thing. More importantly, most Americans are not open minded. What I find most helpful is to have Americans to travel to Asia, not just to China. Pretty much every American I have known who has been to Asia becomes more humble and realizes some if their blindspots. BTW, I have lived in the US for more than 20 years.

    Love to hear his strong believe in the upcoming Chinese century. The West although smaller in total population, they can punch above their weight because they are ahead over many countries through industrialization and now with other technologies, although the gap with other near peer countries has narrowed tremendously.

    I would say he is pro truth as opposed to the pro China tag. Kishore speaks with a lot of sense and logic to counter the oft judgmental and stereotype statements which are parroted by many western thinkers which are not backed by any solid reason or logic as exhibited by Kishore.

    Kishore exposes facts. It so happens those fact reveal the true nature of the Chinese, whose fundamental nature is to extract the most of out of everything for the benefit of those in need and it is not just for the Chinese. He seems to understand those salient characteristics of the Chinese which appear esoteric to Westerners. In highlighting and expounding those Chinese characteristics, he is aiding better understanding, even if it doesn’t allay Western fears of their impending loss of hegemony.
