Tell the lady about the history of the Chinese admiral Zheng He’s seven voyages from 1405 to 1433. He commanded a huge fleet to sail from China to SE Asia and to East Africa. He traded tea, porcelain ware with the locals for spices on friendly terms. Later when the Dutch, Portuguese, Spaniards, British, and French came to Asia, they colonized, enslaved, plundered, and exploited the locals.

Mahbubani is an amazing thinker and scholar, he has an amazing capacity to explain clearly and simple real controversial and hard to grap matters. It is always a pleasure to listen to him or read his books. Bonikovska had to challenge herself with the simplicity of the arguments as well as the friendly critics to things the Europeans like to make complicated, unaccessible often hiden in fear and taboo. She was irritated, not in a bad sence, but with herself, funny to watch. The elephant in the room, the one incredibly was avoided at all costs, like in a paralell reality where it just doesn't exists: Russia. Where is Russia? Russia made a strategic abrupt choice, already in 2020, to turn to Asia, and it was aware it will cut ties with Europe for many decades, unless western Europe learns. Mahbubani said it clearly, western Europe need to become more humble. Humbleness would definitely improve russia-eu relationship, but things are dark and war can even escalate to central and central eastern Europe. As things are now western Europe is building a wall in its eastern flank, that is so much to say, Europe is cutting ties with asia. As things are now in central eastern Europe they lost the access to Russia and its advantage to be near to Eurasia, meaning faster and cheaper transport costs to all parts of asia are gone. It will be no easy for Europe to make mea culpa.
I noticed the elephant in the room too. But, Mahbubani hinted at it by saying that "Europeans need to learn how to manage and get along with neighbouring great powers"

Now I understand why some Poles are hopeless when it comes to global geopolitics. And how some of their academia are stuck in the media narrative that distorts the reality of Asia and the inability the see another point of view in managing global affairs with multi-civilizational & multi-cultural attitudes that are significantly different but no less effective from the European civilizations. I salute Kishore for trying hard. But I think it might have all been lost.
it's best for every body if neither China or India dominates Asia, and ASEAN is devoted in keeping that delicate balance, and Europe should join the ASEAN countries in doing so. That's Mr. Mabuhani's key point and as a Chinese I think he's right.
ASEAN makes itself a platform of talks amongst those big players. And EU makes itself a battlefield between big players, both military and economically. EU needs independent policies to avoid this geographic disaster, not simply follow NATO or US. Understanding the global south better is the base of these independent policies. I think that's the message Kishore Mahbubani try to deliver.

"Don't you see that it's a kind of domination..." - maybe it's a language thing, but sorry that's really condescending. Are you suggesting that Asians cannot see and interpret things with their own wisdom?
If Asean's trade with China increases, that means Asean is being dominated by China??? She needs to look up the meaning of the word 'trade'.
Wow. This is a clear case of what we call “street smart” n “book smart”!!
As an Indian I can tell you this much, there are no permanent friends or enemies. Also between partners you don't need to agree on everything. Take specific issues and deal with it case by case. Don't make stupid statements like we are enemies or friends. Just take each specific case and see if you like to partner on a specific issue or not. For the next issue start with clean slate
Wow. How long was this woman living under the rock ? Seem like the last time she came out was 20 years ago.
We like this professor, he can explain very well China history.
She wants to drive a wedge between India and China and completely ignore ASEAN. Divide and conquer.
G7 is sunset nation whereas BRICs is sunrise nations.. that's best one

Professor Kishore Mahubani great scholar 21 century,he try present very realistic geopolitical and economic reality.
Total different mentality!!!!
it's best for every body if neither China or India dominates Asia, and ASEAN is devoted in keeping that delicate balance, and Europe should join the ASEAN countries in doing so.
Very well put! Spot on.
But if you challenged the United States of America for their number one spot. It doesn't matter what Europe thinks Alfred or anyone because all it's going to take is what the reaction of the United States does. Cuz that's all it takes literally just them.
She doesn't seem to get it 🙄🙄🙄
Still stuck with the colonial mentality 🤦🏻♂️
One cringes at her questions.
Thanks for giving her the lecture of her sheltered life KM.
Kishore 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
This Lady exemplifies Western backward attitudes, stuck in zero sum thinking and unable to progress through mutual respect and cooperation for the benefit of all peoples, the whole planet.
As a Swiss living in Asia, more and more often I feel ashamed and troubled about European cowardice and stupidity in the geopolitical context.
It's not stuck. They're telling you the US is going to stay top dog. It's not an option. It's either that or same thing that happened 100 years ago with Germany and Japan.

Who is the best European leader ? His answer " Putin "😂😅
EU countries has a lot to learn from Asia. For the past half a century Asia has learnt a lot from the west and it's time for the reverse
Amazing Kishore. Amazing insight. Equally ‘amazing’ is the dumbness, arrogance, condescending attitude of so many westerners, especially those holding important positions, as represented in this madam, who only seem to be able to project themselves instead of trying to understand other cultures.
The fact in your mind that you think we would give up everything that comes with being number one is delusional beyond anything I have ever read someone right. You're not taking a crown from our hands. You'll have to pry it out of our radioactive palms.
Her ignorance of Asia is astounding for a professor.
Lessons in pragmatism and humility is long due. Also the notion of human rights seems to be the prerogative of the usual privileged in the minds of those who have it and used to this mindset. Others are simply not encouraged to improve their situation. Even frequently not allowed!
Oh so what you're saying is for them to accept? Well sir, I promise you that will never happen. That's not even an option ever I mean ever as long as the Earth exists.
It's bitterly ironic how the West made such a song and dance for decades about tearing down the Iron Curtain and The Wall and yet its spent the decades since that was achieved trying to put up new ones

More like 70 years. Sorry but I don't see india doing what chines has done. No way. The gap for the moment too big and the education level too widen
Excellent.
Goodness sakes ASEAN has been dealing with far richer US and Europe. We had to also work around domination there.
Euros are so full of it😂
Korea (South and North) not to be unestimated. Their tech is stellar: better than China, in my opinion. If the chaebol corruption is kept in check and they don't try to dilute standards by working with shoddy partners in other parts of Asia, they'd lead the tech scene.
Vietnam is fierce. South-East Asia is definitely a bridge between East and West.
Nepal where I am from have lots of young people who've studied and lived abroad--we don't have tech and industry but we have soft power. Plus ability to coexist between China and India. An important skill ("we know how to handle the giants") which Singapore has mastered with great finesse.

US is dropping to #2. and we all know the jealous wife will never tolerate a probable rival mistress #3 in her orbit. Wife is not afraid of the husband, just as the US is not afraid of China; they are afraid any bloc (EU/India) that will challenge/replace her #2 position. My advise to ASEAN is never to challenge US #2 position (#4 should be safe), and that China #1 must help consolidate his wife's position beyond any doubt.
This is beyond her understanding!

They deleted comment criticizing them. What a hypocrite ?

Why did the host not be honest and declare from the start that she believes China is bad period and ask Kishore for confirmation instead of dancing around the edge?
I doubt it if she actually knows where China is other than what she has been propaganda fed daily by her own and other western press.
