I could not agree more. Some comments below complain about her "slowness", but that is in fact a very special quality that few dancers have, i.e., giving the impression that you have all the time in the world and nothing you are doing is difficult.

She was my classmate. She was beautiful so as to hold breath from those days. On a day of the parting, she danced in front of me. It is a good memory. I support you.
What I love about May is that she doesn't dance gymnastically. She respects the tempo and flows through it. It's a gem at the Mariinsky, different from everyone. Not bashing at all other young dancers, of course. I'm a huge fan of Masha Khoreva and I really can't wait to see Daria Ionova promoted. May shines in a discrete way - her Giselle mad scene is priceless because she doesn't perform like an actress - she performs like an expressive ballerina, without overreacting, it's beautiful. Furthermore, we can see her evolution, she never stops improving. Can't wait to see her as Aurora, as Gulnare, as Odette/Odile, in Balanchine and Robins works - and I'd bet she'd excel in contemporary works. She's precious.
I acknowledge the refinements of may's art but find the Asian artists in all realms tend to be refiners rather than originators. And within that context I view her approach as refined, and at times overly refined. Not her fault and a fact rather than a judgement. It is how the Japanese mind has worked in all the arts, for thousands of years.
I LOVE VIEWING MAY NAGAHISA!!! SHE'S DEFINITELY PRINCIPAL MATERIAL. Her technique quality, control, lines, facial expressions are EXQUISITE! I DARE say she outshines some who are already principals at the Mariinsky already as a soloist! I can watch her and appreciate every single nuance! What a revelation seeing this exceptional artistry! She has such detailed musicality, and her facial expressions match not only the roles but also the mood changes in the music. Her headlines are varied and charming. Her lines are so beautiful and well held! Her balance is unusual, giving us a chance to look at the held poses for longer. How delicate and yet so strong! She's enchanting; she's Japanese, they know a thing or two about artistry. She made the Mariinsky variation of the Sugar Plum fairy dance, sparkle - so technically executed and effortless and not easy to dance as compared to the flamboyant Bolshoi variation. The Osipova set won't like her.
Yes I agree that Osipova set won't be impressed as much. Bolshoi style is more in your face to face bravura compared to Mariinsky's intrenal inviting audience elegance. I do enjoy both and to me it's silly to compare each dancer and make a decision who's better. They are all great dancers if they are soloist in any company.
I'm certainly sensing perhaps vibes of bureaucracy within the company@@TheBunduBallerina . She's still young tho and WAAAAY ahead of many technically imo. Lines & control/balance, musicality and expression is top notch!!! Kudos to her teachers outside of Russia/Vaganova academy who prepared her/ made her comparable to work alongside Mariinsky Russian Ballerinas as a Japanese woman!!! That's AWESOME to me! May IS SPECIAL & quite a legit Ballerina! Principal in the making!

@@charlostainsawshades6962 I have to agree that Khoreva’s acting is awful too but I can’t tell who’s better. Expression-wise, I think Khoreva looks a bit more natural tho (just my own opinion). Very problematic, Mariinsky is giving them major roles in classical ballet.
I think her expression in the mad scene of Giselle is very good (just my personal opinion). I think she looks sort of shocked and tired and going a bit crazy… just my opinion though
She can surely match Zakharova in technics of ballet. However, technics of ballet is not everything for a super ballerina. When I watch her performance, I always have an impression of a pretty middle school student on stage, instead of a grace and elegant woman. Sadly ...

Great prediction! Now both Ilyushkina and Nagahisa are first soloists. But I think Iliuskina is now with Kunakova not Tarasova.

Her expression is the same in every role. She never connects to the audience or to her fellow dancers.
Because she doesn’t know how to act… always showing the same haunted expression. Her movements aren’t showing any emotions either

@@charlostainsawshades6962 I have to agree that Khoreva’s acting is awful too but I can’t tell who’s better. Expression-wise, I think Khoreva looks a bit more natural tho (just my own opinion). Very problematic, Mariinsky is giving them major roles in classical ballet.
I think her expression in the mad scene of Giselle is very good (just my personal opinion). I think she looks sort of shocked and tired and going a bit crazy… just my opinion though
What a pity - if she were 10 cm taller, she would be as good as Zakharova.
Thank you for your comment. Imo, she is as good as Zakharova. Being a little shorter can actually be an advantage.
She can surely match Zakharova in technics of ballet. However, technics of ballet is not everything for a super ballerina. When I watch her performance, I always have an impression of a pretty middle school student on stage, instead of a grace and elegant woman. Sadly ...

Who in the world today have her solid balance, soft elegant classic line and
musicality and at her age. If you are not impressed with her DANCING you don't

As technically good as she is there is something about her facial expression that ruins it for me. She could use some training in the acting part of ballet. Great potential for this beautiful dancer.
