    The 2019 Oris Aquis Date is gorgeous. I have tried on the standard date, the mid size, the special editions, and the titanium, and they are brilliant.

    Oris did what so many companies fail to do. Make a compelling, value-oriented diver with the function, versatility, and elegance of the Submariner without making a creatively bankrupt copy of it. The only real things missing are a true in-house movement, an adjustable clasp, and non-proprietary lugs. If Oris fixed those things then they'd have a watch with legend status. And even then... the proprietary lugs make it wear amazingly, so they don't even need to change that.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 года назад

      Thanks for the thoughts and insights! I think Oris certainly have achieved a lot of that and remain a respected independent company for good reason. The proprietary lugs are so much a part of this design that I reckon it wouldn’t be what it is without them. I would say also that there are other compelling alternatives at this price range - Longines Hydroconquest and Rado D-Star are two that come immediately to mine.

      Funny that people alway’s think that a inhouse movement is superior to ETA or Salita. It’s not. I own both. My Rolex and Tudor vs my Oris makes 1.5 sec pd in fafour of the Tudor. That’s it. Cost 3 times the oris .. So what’s missing is a emty wallet !

    yesterday, my daughter, 22, asked me what I really wanted for my Christmas and Birthday gift (only about a week apart), I told her.. I do not know yet and I do not have anything that I want at this moment, ha ha ha. Knowing she is still in school and just working part time. But if there is a present that I want for this time of the year, This Oris Aquis might be IT.
    Ivan, as you know, I love to take apart of a watch and express my opinion about improvements and so forth.... for this watch, I GOT NOTHING!!!! Everything looks PERFECT, as perfect any watch could be at $1475 price range. They have the solid identity of Oris Aquis and every aspect of fit & finish are just about perfect. It seems like they had thought about basically everything how to improve and make as perfect as possible.
    THAT IS IT FROM ME, IVAN.
    Now, I got to convince my daughter, son and my wife... plus my sister...just about everyone to get their money together for my xmas and birthday gift, ha ha ha Again, thanks for the review. If I do not get this as my gift, at least I know what I want to buy for 2020. take care. Ivan.

      Haha thanks Alex... wow I'm rather surprised! Personally I find this evolution a step away from it being a tool diver, going toward a dress diver. So for me it depends on what the objective of the changes are - if it is indeed going toward a dressier style, then they have succeeded in almost all aspects. Ironically I like the older style hands for the fact that they are cleaner, but they happen to also be more suited to a dressier looks.
      I sincerely wish you all the best in your quest for a Oris Aquis Date! :)

    Hello Ivan. I have an Aquis Clipperton, circa 2017. (They seem to pump out a lot of limited editions with gradient dials - which can be nice, depending on the color and look that you want.)
    Re: movement, I saw an article in an online forum, in which someone knowledgeable looked at the movement closely, and concluded it was a modified top grade - no glycodur balance wheel, but there was circumstantial evidence that the movement had been factory regulated to 4 or 5 positions. I am in no position to judge, but my Oris (like the one in the video) is within COSC performance. YMMV.
    Somebody else commented on the relative value compared to a Christopher Ward Trident. I have that watch too - I think the Trident compares favorably in some ways (e.g., quick remove on the bracelet makes strap swapping easy), but I like the Oris better in others (rubber strap on the Oris is really sweet). For me, the Oris is the nicer looking, more dressy piece, while CW is surely more toolish. While I like them both, I’m still interested in the SMP- there’s always the temptation to move further up the price/quality curve.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 года назад

      Hi there, thank you for sharing those thoughts, I appreciate that you took the time to do that! :)
      I actually really like the color combination on the Clipperton, as well as that case back they put on it. Would be nice if the movement is indeed a TOP grade Sellita but my own pre 2017 Oris certainly does not perform within those specs, it's close to 10 seconds/day slow consistently. CW do put out some pretty good stuff... I would love to review one of their watches.

    Good review. This is a really good value proposition alternative to the Rolex Sub and Omega Seamaster. It seems to straddle that gap between elegant dressy and tool diver very well, like Rolex and it’s Submariner. I’m surely tempted to get one of these. The only negative that I can see is the proprietary strap/ bracelet, but it looks so good, it doesn’t seem to matter.

    Nice simple elegant watch, 24mm lungs are big but not hard to find. Price isn't overtly expensive. Would also like to check out an AD price. Checked out the rubber strap version as well. Not a bracelet fan. To each their own. But heard sound advice on more expensive watches and was advised to buy the bracelet, and just order a good replacement strap. Got some nice Barton's in the past. On my Mido, actually (to me) looked and felt better. the color match was perfect. Had it from an earlier order and had a bitch of a time trying to get the original and sized bracelet back on. Don't want to damage the watch and have it done for like $15.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 года назад

      I reckon $1700 is realistic price you would be able to get from an AD. And yeah I agree that it is a better idea to get the bracelet even if you don't like it - will be easy to resell for good value, and get the rubber for cheaper. Barton straps seem to be well liked but I'm not sure if they make one that is compatible with the Aquis - remember these are a custom proprietary lug-strap interface. All the best! :)

      I’ve seen the other day Clean Ocean version and instantly fell in love. At the moment it is outside my reach money-wise since I just graduated but I would like to own one !
      The story behind the brand, company independency, in-house movements, no crazy athletes endorsements, and on top of it they give share of their profits in fight against plastic pollution and nature conservation makes it hard to resist.
      What you buy is the story and philosophy not to many watch companies can offer. In the end, most people don’t know anything about the brand, so you won’t be in the middle of attention when you say you are wearing Oris, instead if you would wear Rolex. 🕰

    The Aquis has the same kind of design genius that the Submariner had in its day, but of course more modern, someone very talented and thoughtful was behind it. I just can't figure out why they would go with those proprietary lugs, they're the only offputting thing about the watch. What would you do if you broke the bracelet? A replacement would be a good $200 I would guess, if they would sell you one at all.

      @PerthWAtch  3 года назад

    • @TONY_FEZ
      @TONY_FEZ 4 года назад

      @@PerthWAtch What I mean is there was a lack of urgency or care that a customer had just paid 3K for a watch that was clearly defective. At a minimum they should have replaced it. I did go down the repair route initially however the watch sat in their PO box uncollected for 2 weeks until I forcefully had to retrieve the package myself from the PO! I'd call that a fair lack of interest by Oris.

    Until a few weeks ago, I had an Aquis older revision before 2017. I confess that I bought it, mostly because of its extremely sturdy, solid and high quality bracelet, which made it look much more expensive and masculine. Now I can see that in the new models, the bracelet is much thinner and when shaking it comes out a rather unpleasant sound that makes it look cheap. I don't know what ORIS policy is, but if I go through with material savings, I won't buy it again. Given the low class of the mechanism, at least the other components are expected to be of decent quality. Until a few years ago, they were really like that, but at the moment it's controversial.

      galinn76 have you handled the newer version? I owned it, and also tried on the old version before I bought the newer one. There is no difference in the quality and robustness between new to old, but I did much prefer the taper of the newer model. If you loved your old one, I highly suggest to try the new one in the metal at the very least, you might be surprised!

      I tried Oris Aquis Big Day Date, surprised but unpleasant. On the quality and thickness of the chain, you can easily find out who is new and who is old. I think the difference is very intrusive. imgbbb.com/image/LfvQb6

      Thanks for the thoughts guys... I would say that the newer watch certainly has a slimmer, thinner, and more tapering bracelet but at the same time has not made any reductions in quality of the construction. I would also say that the clasp remains solid with no compromises evident. Cheers!

    My first „real“ watch many years ago was a Oris - and my (now) most loved one is also a Oris (Clipperton limited) which i bought myself for my 30th birthday. I simply love that brand! Still unterrated in my opinion.

    What does this watch have that makes it worth $1475? Brand? Prestige? Because setting that aside the materials and technology involved in the production of it, even the design, is certainly not that unique.

      @Dylan-xj8tb 4 года назад +1

      @@parenpi it's really not though. Oris, quite often, has a concerning amount of quality control issues. Misaligned chapter rings, ill-fitting bracelets and clasps etc. Combine these issues that make 300 dollar seikos look bad with the fact that it uses the cheapest movement available, im not seeing where the $1500 is going. Just seems like another low tier watch that people buy to "settle" instead of just waiting and saving longer to get a solid luxury watch that they actually want.

      Interesting to hear those thoughts - personally I’ve handled quite a few Oris now and the build quality has never been short of excellent. Also never had issues with chapter rings and such (obviously not a factor in this model anyway).
      The materials are nothing special but the brand does have some panache behind it. I also think the design is rather unique, there is nothing else really like this. Much more unique than any Longines anyway, many of which sell at the same price points. Just my thoughts :)

After all, I stated that this watch wasn't feminine in comparison to other watches. You shouldn’t make things up - stick to the facts. The newer model bezel is actually WIDER just so you know, and the weight difference is less than 5g. Old one is not “far beefier”.
      And who says you need to stick to divers? You should think broader. But ok I’ll play by these rules - pretty much anything from Magrette and Audaz would be “beefier”. If sticking to more famous names, Panerai Submersible and Seiko Shogun are two off the top of my head.
