The only thing I would add is to be sure you route the new wires behind the door support, closest to the door card or the window will get hung up on it.
Did you consider not removing the door card at all, and just cutting and rejoining (soldering with heat shrink) the old harness to the new one at the external mirror cavity? I'm just thinking about doing that as an alternative to pulling apart the door. What do people think - bad idea?
Hi mate, I wouldn’t bother if I’m honest with you, your basically adding another breaking point in the system that could possibly cause a fault again in the future. with a fairly new car like this you want it right, if it was a 90’s shitbox that had been to the moon I’d say great idea haha. It honestly does not take long to remove the door card, if you do it right once you won’t have to do it again.
If you thread a wire through or a piece of string and tie it around the connector you can pull it through with the connector then undo the knot after, just make sure it goes round the window channel
Many thanks for posting this. Just replaced my mirror. This was excellent advise and I followed every step. 👍
Had to replace the bottom section of the mirror cover. I Would have been stuffed without this video. Cheers fella. Got there in the end. 👌
Oh man - you've saved me a day, thank you!
I can’t believe you have to take off the door card
@@equizzie yeh it’s not the most simple, but it’s easy enough to do. Nice bike
@@willgd6521 thank you!

@@willgd6521 Haha. Fair point.
I do not see How did you pull the wire through the door together with the plug?

Could possibly be! Worth a look definitely
@@willgd6521 it is the same👍
How do you undo the 10mm bolt in the beginning? What do you use for it?
Hi, it doesn’t need to be removed it need to be spun 90 degrees and the door card will slip over it when pulled
Thanks!
Someone hit mine and it locks ok but doesn't open fully have to do last bit myself myself
Did you buy genuine part or aftermarket, saw on eBay aftermarket were 90 quid, 180 for vw
