  • In this video I show the steps to removing a mirror, troubleshooting a problem, and re-installing the mirror, door panel, etc. It's a long, but detailed video that will hopefully give the person watching the courage to tackle this at home instead of paying the dealer. As always, thank you for watching!

    Brilliant, thank you so much for this video. I had to replace the mirror on my wife’s golf and without this video I simply could not have done it. Cheers 🤩

    Thank you!! This helped a ton. Just replaced my side mirror on a 2019 eGolf and everything was still pretty much as shown in this video. Only difference was a small clip inside the doorframe holding the wire in place. Super annoying angle but was able to pop it out after a while. Really appreciated being able to watch someone else do it first!

      Green grommet visible on wire at 8:47 in the video. Stumped me until I found it.

    BRILLIANT - You have done an excellent step by step tutorial. You have done it in such a way that I can pause between steps whilst I remove items or reinstall them again. I obtained a quote from the garage to do this for me and including vat etc the total is over £500. Now I have your instructional video I can just buy the parts that cost around £175.00 so you have saved me over £300.. and you are my new friend and I am your newest subscriber. There is a strong golf following and this information is gold - Thank you

    Great video! My better half managed to rip the side mirror off our car and the dealership wanted $1000 to replace it. Bought a used one from a salvage yard and replaced it myself! Made one fatal error that you didn’t mention. Don’t feed the wire through with the window down. The window will stick on the wire on the way up. Anyway had to redo the install, but didn’t take too long. Thanks again!

      I just did the same thing, where did you order your parts from? I need the top/bottom/LED strip. My car is white so thinking of ordering maybe black tops which would may look really good. This is basically my car and he changed his to black ruclips.net/video/BvWTxEdelt4/видео.html

    Did the job today... Video was great. Couple small notes... the white boot around the wire does not need to be cut just push it through. Also note my cable was held inside the door with a zip tie clip that took a bit of work to push out so the cable could be removed.

    Thanks! This video helped a lot to replace my 19 GTi side mirror. One difference: the electrical cable on my factory mirror was held by something inside the door, and couldn't simply be fished out. I had to cut it on both sides (didn't matter to me, since I was replacing the whole thing).

      its not held on... theres a grommet that you have to push and fish through the other side,

      @@MrJoepeps correct, I found the plastic grommet eventually. It's easy to access and free the cable, if you know where it is

    Thanks very much for this guide which helped me to replace my door mirror today. I noticed that you didn’t re-attach the cable clip about half way along the cable, possibly because it’s very tricky to do so. I’ll attempt to do this when I fit the new mirror and post again if I can add any advice.
    Also, near the end of your video at about 21m45 you mention re-tightening the lock clip at the bottom of the door card. It’s worth reinforcing that this needs to be loosened by turning it a 1/4 turn anti-clockwise before removing the door card earlier in this process. Cheers!

    • @YCymro69
      @YCymro69 2 года назад

      Regarding re-attaching the cable clip mentioned above, it’s a matter of getting two or three fingers through the hole from which the grommet has been removed and manipulating the clip back into its hole. It’s a bit of a faff but do-able.

    Have to say a big thank you, i do a lot of stuff myself and like the “how hard can it be approach”. But your video was vital had to come back and watch some parts again, saying that I have still managed to screw it up. My window doesn’t close fully but it started to rain. I will have to restart the process another day.

    Great video I just smashed my 2020 VW GTI passenger mirror backing into the garage today and snapped off the plastic posts which hold the LED strip for blinker in place so it looks like I will have to do what you did and remove the mirror completely to put the new cover on the bottom. Argh lol Thanks for your awesome instructions this will help me for sure. I'm gonna have to replace the top/bottom and LED strip so not looking forward to the expense. I was able to fix for now temporarily with duct tape and will hold and doesn't look terrible. I can't believe I did this so frustrating lol

      Hello, I also broke the notches of my lower mirror cover like you described. I wonder how did you manage to replace it? Do I have to really remove the door covers like this video or iis it it possible to change it without removing it? Thank you

    • @Driven2Compete
      @Driven2Compete  3 месяца назад +1

      I showed you ever aspect that I could of the project in the video. If you have a piece that's broken, you may need to bite the bullet and replace the part. As for removal, you can get the mirror to hang from the door, but you must remove interior panels to access the electrical connector to disconnect. I'm not sure what else to say as it's been a few years since I made the video. I hope I helped in some way. TK

    PSA for anyone seeing this, be very careful and check that your mirror goes all the way down. I just had to rerun it because the cable was in the way lol. You have to kind of angle whatever fishing wire you're using left and then to the right to stay clear, or at least I did

    There wasn't a need to cut the rubber grommet. Following your tutorial I did the same error, but I realized there is no need to do it. You could just push it inside of the door and pull it out together with cable.

      Cable has to come through the door in a specific location or it will hit the glass. Try rerouting the cable.

This is something called Clubbing and can be related to a number of health issues. Your plumbers putty trick makes me think youre in the profession of a specific trade?
