Mazda Folding Auto Mirror Quick Fix with WD40

  • Dont just spray WD40 behind the mirror as advised per other youtube videos, there are 2 rubber grommets that hold wires going the motor mechanism. If water gets in, from washing a car, car wash or heavy rainfall, the folding mechanism may not operate (open and close completely)
    In my case, it was simpy removing the mirror, finding and Removing the rubber grommets and spraying WD40 down the motor surround, then replace rubber grommets.
    hope this helps and you save some WD40 (instead of blindly spraying it)

    Thank you for this video. My passenger mirror has stopped winding all the way back out immediately after a car wash so good to hear the explanation and fix.

    Successfully applied WD-40 from a can that has a long spray tube. With remote control, moved mirror to extreme lower outside position. Close to the car door, I looked down behind the mirror. Using flashlight, located the two grommets shown in video (behind the mirror) and sprayed WD-40 into them. After a few operations, the mirror holder folded ok again.

    Thanks man! Worked like a charm on my cx5 2020! Like many others, I didn’t have to unmount the mirror, I just set it to the lowest position on the left, the gap between the frame and the mirror was more than sufficient to see the rubber grommets and reach them with the wd40 extension tube. After closing/opening the mirror around 15 times and helping it to complete the full rotation with the light pressure of my hand, it started to work again by itself!

    • @lgibelli
      @lgibelli 3 месяца назад

      @@vf464 most likely pressure washing. I clearly remember targeting the mirrors intensively, never caused any problem to my other cars. Strangely only the left mirror was affected, even if I washed both.

    Yes, it works but I recommend you use Silicone WD40. The 'silicone' lubes all the moving parts. Every couple of months, I squeeze the straw between the glass and mirror housing giving a good spray whilst wiggling the straw about. My 2017 CX-5 mirrors still work as good as new.

      Thanks, having CX-5 2017, Right mirror opens up at 30-50%, after 4-5 attempts it opens on 100%. I am going to apply your approach, hope it will work. I want my mirrors folding mechanism working back again.

    i actually managed to find the holes by using a wd-40 which comes with a narrow plastic hose so it can actually work without removing the mirror. Make sure it's the water resistant type! Yes, my wife is very happy with me.

    Great video. Mazda mirrors are terrible, always fill up with water, its beyond belief they cant make them waterproof with a seal. i have 2018 CX5 and mirrors have failed TWICE. So THANK YOU! for this video, i dont have to go to official Mazda garage and get fleeced for 250 Euros now (by mechanics who dont care and scuffed my mirror up when it was in for last repair)

    You need to be spraying wd-40 water resistant silicone and not the regular wd-40 as it will act more like a cleaner or degreaser and not a lubricant which is what you need for these mirrors.

      I’m no scientist but regular dw40 is already a lubricant, rust preventive, penetrant and moisture displacer. I am interested in moisture displacer.

    safer and easier to take the plastic cover off the mirror assembly than the mirror itself, it just clips off

    • @gtpete6363
      @gtpete6363 6 месяцев назад +1

      if it still wobbles in one direction it's because you havent connected one of the white drive pins to the back of the mirror. pull the mirror off again and realign the pins to the hole son the back of themmirror and press in quite hard until you hear it snap into place

      @@Imenijebitno108 had this issues for about a year now. The mirror engine just keeps running, not finding its "end stop". My fix: I've just put the control knob in between "in" (retract) and "out" (fold out) so that it doesn't run at all. It's a stupid fixed, but it keeps things quiet at least
