Through all these George Carlin clip you see how his comedy got darker and darker the older he got. Whether you like the direction his comedy went you have to admit that he always, always made you think. He is a master class in critical thinking.

I grew up listening to his albums , not always with my parents knowing , Class Clown , Toledo Window Box , Occupation Foole and more. give his nursery rhymes bit a listen . his "7 dirty words " is still the funniest thing I've heard .

Daylight savings time was created in WW2. Some places like here in CA. just won't get rid of it.
One of my favorites by him. It's prompted many a discussion about time. Some more interesting than others, depending on certain chemicals that may have been involved. I seem to recall a discussion about 30 years ago where we decided that instead of saying "I'd like that now," we would say "I'd like that in the nearest future I can get it." 😏

Time changes were for farmers working the land
His bits about airplane travel and the differences between football and baseball are great as well. Of course, must sees include religion and capital punishment.
Early George was so philosophical and thought-provoking. I get why people like the later stuff, but I prefer this.
Now having family who are farmers, and still work a full time job, DST comes in handy so when they get home in the summer, there are still 3 more hours of daylight to work on the fields. I guess we are the only ones who produce so much that we done have TIME for it if the sun goes down too early. This is why I think WE need a time change. We have crap to do, AFTER WORK.

As a kid growing up in the 50's and playing outside, my mom would say, be sure your back in the house as dusk or when the street lamps come on. It is true, as a kid, time was not a factor, but dusk or the street lamps provided a visual reference to be home.
How true. Growing up in the early 60s, it was the same for myself. In the summer months, us kids would sit on some kids front porch after sunset and talk as young kids do, (with our parents permission). This was our social media. About 10 pm we'd have to go home. Like you, this was the best part of growing up.

Time is a measurement we made up to measure movement. If there's no movement, you can't measure time because there is no time.

After watching your vid on time as George Carlin picks it apart I also started thinking about the way we see time, as Linear. In a straight line. The past was, now is here and the future is tomorrow. But what if you thought in a non- linear sense. That the past, present and future are all going on at the same moment in time. That you could examine the past or the future as it occurs. Nothing to wonder about how something happened or will happen because you can see it if you look. Now I can say that you are making this video and I'm watching it while you are reading my comment all at the same time. But we just can't think that way. It doesn't make sense. Or, maybe we can. The concept of the life here after. When you get there time does not mater. You're there for eternity, you're just there always. And from the time you arrive, everyone that came before you, and all that arrived after you will appear to have to have always been there. I should message you this on your Facebook so you'll read it in time, Ha!
You mentioned his voice. At this stage in this point in his career, he was still finding his true voice. He still had a lot of his previous identity, in his rhythm and his mannerisms and his tone. He didn't truly find his voice, the one we know him for, until the 1990's.

Wait until you find out how they changed the calendar from a lunar calendar that was an event 28 days every month for 13 months, to a solar one where we have to adjust that calc every year, and how that affects humans :)

Honey NO! They have what they call Summertime in Europe. They advance one hour in summer, just not at the same time we do.

Daylight Savings Time was set up in the US during World War I, in order to get military weapons and supplies factories to have longer days in production, and more daylight for war fighting. It was reinstated during World War II, and has been in use in the US ever since then. During the Clinton Administration, the US Government set up a more balanced approach to the time changes, by having them take place in April and October every year. When the War On Terrorism began in 2001, The US Government ended this practice, and set up the current time changes in use today to provide more daylight for war fighting. Yes, a number of states do not observe Daylight Savings Time, and in the State of Indiana, DST observance differs from county to county. Truck drivers have to take this into consideration when making their pickups and deliveries.
Carlin was a student of the English language and used it in so many different, thought provoking ways. He was a master of illustrating how language manipulates thought and culture. I think he was a genius.

I've never laughed so hard in my life listening to George. Had his comedy albums back in high school and saw him twice back in the late seventies, early eighties.

Hi Britt. I don’t know if you read comments or not, but you mentioned in a recent video that you once drove for Uber Eats. I deliver Door Dash nights and weekends as needed to supplement my small business income and February was BAD. So I’ve been out almost every night the last two weeks delivering and every night I play your comedy reactions. You upload so many everyday, it just feels like we’re chilling in the car together laughing at stuff all night. You don’t really say a whole lot or react a great deal, but it’s just a great vibe to be hanging out and laughing together. Thanks for your videos ❤

FWIW there is still Daylight Savings time in Europe (certainly in the EU).
Europe DOES have daylight saving times. Just like the UK does and the US does.
Also the terms 'moment' and 'jiffy' are actual units of time. A moment is 90 seconds and a jiffy is around 1 nanosecond. To put that into perspective, if a nanosecond was equal to a second, then a second would be 32 years.
The thing George understands. that most people don't anymore, is that words have meaning.

Daylight savings time only exists cuz as Americans and Canadians we have giant countries and the earth can only move so fast against the sun. It’s not perfect by any means.
But in Europe you have like 30 countries all in a small space. Like driving from Georgia to California is all of Europe. It makes sense. Else give it ten years it would be nighttime at 3pm.

Just one comment on Time, Time is the single entity that allows us all to exist. If time stood still or stopped we would all exist in exactly the same position for eternity!!!

Also, a Confucian idea -- If you have one clock, you know what time it is. If you have more than one, you're never really sure.
In physics, a "jiffy" is a very short period of time indeed. There are about 300,000 billion billion jiffys in one second.
I've been driving a school bus for about a year now, so I have a close relationship with time seeing as how there are parts of my route where I need to be at such and such stop at such and such time.
But... it's also starting to screw with me on my DAYS OFF...
TYPICALLY I wake up at 5:15AM to get ready to leave. I actually leave at 5:45AM and head to work.
My internal clock for I don't even know HOW long on the weekends? I find myself waking up at around the time I should be LEAVING for work and telling my clock to go fuck itself. :P
