We’re concerned about your safety, so we’re going to do the most dangerous thing we can snd bring our vessel alongside yours in confused seas, twice, take your attention off operating your vessel by asking you to retrieve items and paperwork…. I hope the dog knows how to throw you that device they asked about.
Fish Cops boarded me a few years back. He started writing tickets as soon as he boarded without asking questions. My boat is ugly but everything works as should. After an hour+ inspection he finally got a ticket to stick when he broke my throwable flotation device over his knee. Always film these guys.
The definition of habitation needs to be adjusted so it includes folk living in rvs, vans, and boats. You ought not ever be forced to explain yourself in your home.
I didn't know the Coast Guard was that snotty? So they can come on your boat at any time with no notice whatsoever huh??? It feels pretty damn invasive
Theyre just teaching the newbies how to shake you down like some sort of crazy boat hermit, you handled it well, SOP for them probably a boring day lol
Got a courtesy inspection from the Coast Guard Auxiliary once. They failed me because I did not have an overboard discharge sticker on a 23 foot boat with no through hull and a porta potty, which was a mistake on their part. Toward the end of the inspection I was of course tired of nonsense and was asked if I had any boater safety courses in my lifetime. So I said to him, does 8 years in the United States Navy count? He got really grumpy and left my boat.
I am a ex coastguard back in the day when we were allowed to salvage a personal boat before the thieving salvage company’s. We were respectful to the safety of the boaters and we did boardings only in safe waters.

When you jump into the Gulf or intercoast waterway they will want to see flares too. You did a great job handling your boat.
I hear the Imperial March from "Star Wars" playing.
They are making sure you're not smuggling wavy gravy treats from MI.🤣
It always starts with safety items and then turns into an interrogation.
Kind of amazing that the Guard is largely unaware of the camera.
I feel so much safer now that I know if I go swimming and need your throwable it will be a current model!
