Hi Breton, very interesting episode, can't believe how much debris is floating, makes navigation tough. That gentleman that took you to the gas station is a true southern Alabama person. Me and Julie are doing really well, the current has been very strong, so we have been averaging 9.2 knots at about 50 % power. Hard to believe a little 9.9 hp can push a 29 foot boat that fast. We luck out when we entered Kentucky Lake, the wind was in our favor blowing at 15 knots, so we put the sails up and sailed the whole distance across the lake and then some. We averaged about 15.8 knots and reached 19.7 knots on a few occasions crossing the lake. We sure have had a lot of folks taking pictures of this boat and asking lots of questions about her. Even most of the lock master were filming us and asking questions about her. I guess no one has traveled down the waterway in a Corsair 880 Sport Trimaran......
@@backwatersandbackroads Quite a few videos on RUclips showing casing this boat and my friends from the RUclips sailing channel, Tulsa's Endless Summer did a 3 months trip with a Corsair 880 Sport and documented the whole trip.....

Brenton, those gas logistics in Mobile looked to be a very tough haul. About that Hospital Ship Comfort; that was the ship that President Trump sent up to New York City to tend to the very ill citizens suffering from Covid back in 2020. It didn't stay long as Cuomo, the governor of NY, didn't take advantage of that ship's services; instead sending many of the ill into nursing homes & promptly helped spread the virus to residents and staff not equipped to deal with such a viral thing like that. All the best to you and Wavey on your grand tour!
Excellent adventure. Thanks for sharing. I've been across the bridge in Ontonagon. Maybe someday I'll make it under the one you went under here. Take care and safe travels.
A back up camera would be handy to see if someone is behind you if you get one with 3 or 4 cameras you could keep an eye on the close shaves down the side.
Hi Linda, I'd say most of the bridges are able to lift or swivel for that reason. Fixed bridges are very high for sailboats to get under also. The old trestle on my river back home is an odd one because it's fixed ans low. The barge just barely gets usber it. We're talking inches.
Cool part of you’re trip. I’ve been in the Mississippi River next to a few ships they look like buildings. when you get close and look up at them. makes you feel tiny for sure take buddy safe travels👍✌️🛥🎣

While being part of a crew which did see the world during a second career which spanned 15 years, mobile was the only place where there was found a bar so rough that the toilets were bolted and chained to the floor. It's a long story and I survived. And no, I do not remember the name of the bar.
It's too bad that the new owners don't want to keep Bobby's Fish Camp open anymore. It was kind of a landmark place for Loopers to stop there if they could. Nothing lasts forever of course. It's just kind of sad in my mind that so many old school, iconic places are fast fading away.
The inflatable was rolled up under the scooter. We got a Portland Pudgy (coming up in videos soon) I gave the inflatable to another shanty boat captain. You'll get to meet him this summer.
I think that just a beagle thing.. Its actually illegal to fill those plastic gas cans whilst in the back of your pickup. IT must be done whilst each can is on the ground. The number of people that have died from doing this is phenomenal. Its all due to static charges.
@@backwatersandbackroads I know what you mean but if they were on the ground you have NOTHING to "worry about" do you? Actually you should be far more aware of this coming from Minisota where the air is dryer especially in winter.

I remember that. I have opinions on the subject, unfortunately not allowed here on YT.
Agree with you on that, Brenton!@@backwatersandbackroads
Excellent adventure. Thanks for sharing. I've been across the bridge in Ontonagon. Maybe someday I'll make it under the one you went under here. Take care and safe travels.
The old train trestle, that's the low one.
Great video! Still waiting on the comparison of each section of your trip .I take it this one will be near the bottom.
We have the east coast coming up ;) excited and nervous
Awesome video I love this kind of stuff
Thank you. Welcome;)
Wavy cracks me up. She is so spoiled. 😂
The most!! ;)
A back up camera would be handy to see if someone is behind you if you get one with 3 or 4 cameras you could keep an eye on the close shaves down the side.
U be safe out on those islands, copperhead snake are everywhere
I often wondered about the ability to pass under bridges when the river is higher than normal. Nice you were at a bridge that could be lifted.
Hi Linda, I'd say most of the bridges are able to lift or swivel for that reason. Fixed bridges are very high for sailboats to get under also. The old trestle on my river back home is an odd one because it's fixed ans low. The barge just barely gets usber it. We're talking inches.
@@backwatersandbackroads good to know! Thank you.
Little challenging see all the big ships to deal with. Made me nervous.
Me too Karen. They don't mess around...and can't stop!
Cool part of you’re trip. I’ve been in the Mississippi River next to a few ships they look like buildings. when you get close and look up at them. makes you feel tiny for sure take buddy safe travels👍✌️🛥🎣
Good to see you buddy. How's the build coming? I linked to your channel last episode. Give little G a high five for me :)
@@backwatersandbackroads it’s coming along nicely. Thanks for sharing our link I’ll be sure to return the favor on one of are camping trips I have a cool idea for it👍
Another great video to enjoy keep up the great work. I agree with going ashore to get gas you save a few bucks and see many things others pass by and never notice . Also i didn't get to point out spots ive fished this time but i have delivered logs to lumber mill and pulpwood to papermill you passed by in jackson . Keep on keeping on the great journey.
I know we're missing a lot of good fishing, it's hard when you're moving. Definitely not a good excuse.
Another Masterpiece
Thank you for that positive feedback. Someone commented recently "the same video over and over..." I had to stop and think" "really?" It's what's happening, doesn't feel like the same thing over and over. Can't satisfy everyone.
Suggestion.....Keep an eye out for snakes so your puppy does not get bit. Have fun.

He accomplished a great deal in his short 46 years!
Freaking awesome channel 😊
Thank you for the feedback;)
Humans are hardwired for kindness and cooperation. Strangers can and often do exhibit ad hoc.
I completely agree. I'd say 90% are...but it's the 10% predators with the dark triad traits to watch out for. I've gotten good at spottinf the red flags. Learned the hard way.
@@backwatersandbackroads The internet has a ratbag ratio perhaps higher than 10%?. In many ways, a "habitat" where they can camouflage themselves as good guys. Good vid Brent
Thanks buddy ;)
The USNS Comfort and the vessel with the blue and gold stripes on the stack are Military Sealift Command ships, which are civilian manned vessels operated by the USN.
While being part of a crew which did see the world during a second career which spanned 15 years, mobile was the only place where there was found a bar so rough that the toilets were bolted and chained to the floor. It's a long story and I survived. And no, I do not remember the name of the bar.
Poor baby. I❤ Beagles.😎😎
You better not get out of the Channel on the Missouri River in my area.
All the Ox bows have rock Eddy on each end!!!
I suppose you had no problems crossing Mobile Bay. That first trip looked sketchy in your other boat. It looked much smaller.
Coming up ;)
Seems Bobby's Fish Camp doesn't want tourists stopping at their tourist trap on the great loop. Doesn't seem like a sound business strategy.
I guess they're being made to stay open? As a fuel stop in an area that doesn't have any. That guy was a world class A-hole.
It's too bad that the new owners don't want to keep Bobby's Fish Camp open anymore. It was kind of a landmark place for Loopers to stop there if they could. Nothing lasts forever of course. It's just kind of sad in my mind that so many old school, iconic places are fast fading away.
@michaelgarrity6090 I feel the same. End of a Era. Hoppies is probably on its way out too :(
I live on Tensaw river...wish I had known you came down ...would have helped you out
Welcome! Thanks for finding us:)
Oh! So you got a charger for your radio! 😀👍
I got a different one ;)
Greetings from the other side of this gem we’re sharing
Thanks for posting, nice and informative
Just wondering why no captain salute for the bridge?

She's terrible, but I'm to blame
@@backwatersandbackroadsEver try giving her a bone to chew on while you're away?
We should all try to be more like Mr Malcolm 🤙 don't find that much in the big cities
No cell signal 😀. Aaaauuuhhh
I notice that in watching the views from the storm area I see the kayak but not the dingy where are you storing it when under way
The inflatable was rolled up under the scooter. We got a Portland Pudgy (coming up in videos soon) I gave the inflatable to another shanty boat captain. You'll get to meet him this summer.
I am going to Jackson !!
Looks like the mill is hiring;)
I think that just a beagle thing.. I have a little asswipe laying on the couch next to me his name's Buddy.. does the same thing when you leave.. and if you don't put him in a crate when you go into a store or something you won't have anything left in your truck that'll be usable it'll all be ripped to shreds.. I think man's best friend doesn't apply to beagles.. I need you more than you need them. And they want what they want and they don't care what you think..
They think they're boss
😎
Love the videos. They make my day. How long has it taken you to get to Mobile?
Thank you. I'm glad you like them ;) we left Minnesota Oct.15th and I think we got to Mobile...sometime in January or February? I've completely lost track of time ;)
Enjoying your journey! My wife and I would love to do the Great Loop some day. Question... what kind of MPG are you averaging on this trip?
Hi Rob. We're getting at least 1 gallon an hour at hull speed. That's 5-7+ mpg depending on conditions.
Good video. By the way Hobo Shoestring is missing just incase you followed him. Been missing since March 27
I've been keeping up with that. Very troubling. Not good. All his stuff is home, yet he isn't.
@backwatersandbackroads yeah he was found dead in the lake by fishermen yesterday.
@hakeem4802 just terrible
Yeah. But reality is, at the end of the day all souls leave the body and nobody knows how or when itll happen.@backwatersandbackroads
@hakeem4802 I guess we'll always wonder how it happened. Decades of partaking in one of the most dangerous activities imagine, drowns in the back yard. Just terrible. I always worried about his health. It was loaded with the jabs too :(
I don’t know if you’ve covered this yet, I’m only through episode 13 of your journey. I just gotta know, where do you go #2? 😂
A portable bucket "loo" called a "luggable loo" with composting bags. Then transfer them to an air-tight bucket until a dumpster run.

Its actually illegal to fill those plastic gas cans whilst in the back of your pickup. IT must be done whilst each can is on the ground. The number of people that have died from doing this is phenomenal. Its all due to static charges.
Wow. So many things to worry about in this world
@@backwatersandbackroads I know what you mean but if they were on the ground you have NOTHING to "worry about" do you? Actually you should be far more aware of this coming from Minisota where the air is dryer especially in winter.
So I have been watching your videos, I enjoy them a lot, I noticed you had a dingy and then all of a sudden you have a kayak, I don't remember you saying anything about that! Just curious!
I'm pretty sure Wavy dragged it back after one of his walks.
We started our with out inflatable, but deflated it and got a cheap kayak (free actually) now we have a Portland Pudgy (which we almost lost yesterday!) I gave the inflatable to another shanty boat captain. I think the Pudgy is the ticket.
@@yepiratesworkshop7997 that would take effort. She's far too lazy for that;)
Poor wavey 😢
So mistreated:(
Love watching you and Wavey do the loop! Now that you’re entering the Gulf, do you have a radar or AIS just in case?
We're actually on the east coast of Florida now. It take a while to make these videos. I'll probably never have anything like that;) it's a Shanty boat...we're lucky to have a working depth sounder ;)
@@backwatersandbackroads how far down the coast are you? I’m just south of Sarasota
Did you run any part of the Tennessee river on your journey?
Just up to where the Tenn-Tom starts and a little past to the waterfall.
As I went walking I saw a sign there
And on that sign it said No Trespassing
But on the other side it didn’t say nothing
That side was made for you and me

I love it! ;)
Is the fuel price that much more at the marinas that it’s worth it to go into towns with Jerry cans?
It is for me. Usually $1-$1.50 difference, plus we get off the boat and exercise and see places more. Many loopers literally go from marina to marina. The $20 bucks saved filling up buys some food and treats
