    Wow that was a lot of work. Thank you. I've found that when you have the correct ratio the paint will flow smoothly off the stirring stick and create a small mound that quickly disappears. I usually recommend people start with a less expensive product until they get used to the concepts then move to more expensive. It's fun to see what they learn in the process which is usually sometimes you get what you don't pay for.

    • @LeftBrainedArtist
      @LeftBrainedArtist  4 года назад

      Depends on how deeply ($$) you want to go. I really liked getting the 14 acrylic paint pouches from Arteza. While there are too many browns and yellows than I would prefer but the color combination is great and you save a bunch by buying in bulk. The Arteza paint to pouring medium is more like 1:4 or 1:5 where some other student level acrylics like Artist's Touch, Artist's Loft, and Liquitex Basics I go 1 part paint to 2 or 3 parts pouring medium. That makes the Arteza more economical because they extend longer with pouring medium. There is a link to Arteza with a 15% off coupon code in the video notes if that is the way you decide to go. Otherwise buy paint here and there with coupons at Michael's or your local craft store (Liquitex would be choice #2 for me at this point).

      @@LeftBrainedArtist Dang, I wish I had paid more attention when I ordered it. I bought two of the 14 pouch sets on sale yesterday. Didn't even realize all the browns and yellows. Not so great for mixing other colors eh. I actually tried to use your Arteza code, but it said it couldn't be combined with weekly sale promotions or something. The 14 pouch set was (is?) $30. Is Arteza your first choice then? I went with them as more pouring medium can be used than with other paints, from what I've found online.

    • @LeftBrainedArtist

      I am using Arteza more and more. There are a bunch of colors they don't make like bling colors and the aqua Liquitex and a lot of metallics but the economics of the Arteza are just too hard to pass up.
      FYI I have a video coming out soon but my one dig on Arteza was the lightfastness rating. I left the painting from this video in the open sun (front window) for 6 months and haven't seen ANY fading. I think the lightfastness might be better than they advertise.

      You probably need to cut back on the pouring medium. Diluting the paint/pigment with too much medium causes the colors to come out much lighter. Also, don't stack white near the red or else you'll get a lot of pink.

  • @mcbguerout

    Very interesting! As usual!
    However you don't talk about the price of the paintings.
    Arteza is the most expensive and the most pigmented.
    It's quite logical.
    It seems that with the same amount of paint, you can add more medium for the most pigmented paint, so you get more....
    You would have to do a little calculation to know the price per ml, cl or liter of ready to use paint.
    Have you ever tried to make your own paint by buying pigments?
    And, by the way, what is the medium added by paint manufacturers to dilute the pigments?
    In any case, thank you for sharing your experience with us.
    PS: I use a translator and I hope he translates my French thought well!

    • @LeftBrainedArtist
      @LeftBrainedArtist  4 года назад +1

      I have a blog post coming out in the next day or so that has the calculations before and after discounts and things like that.

    Thank you for taking the time to break down the 5 brands for acrylic pouring. I’m fairly new at this, so I started with Liquitex on Amazon. I didn’t know about folk art, Craft Smart and other brands until I saw them at Walmart and Michael’s. I had been successful with Liquitex in my art pouring but since I only have 4 colors in that brand, I used cheaper acrylics incorporating my dirty pour, etc. they have turned out muddy and I wasted 3 hours prepping not to mention cleaning.
    After studying this now for some time, I am still confused about adding water to paint. I’ve heard it breaks down the pigments. Would that happen to arteza acrylic paint? Would it be better for me to purchase Blick in order to prevent adding water??

    • @LeftBrainedArtist
      @LeftBrainedArtist  4 года назад

      Adding too much water dilutes the binders to much. Most people keep their water additions below 40% of the total weight/volume of mixture. I usually try to stay above 25% and add a fluid pouring medium instead if I have to dilute even more.
      Arteza paints are no different but I found they have much more pigment and therefore can be diluted more without compromising color. In the end that has been a serious money saver for me.

  • @Fate_Breaker_

    • @LeftBrainedArtist
      @LeftBrainedArtist  3 года назад

      No. It is usually the paint in 2 ounce containers like Craftsmart, folkart, etc. Any super budget paint would be considered craft as they use inferior pigments and mediums to make.

      Great test. I was actually gonna comment that while arteza has the best pigment load, it is also up to 4 times as much as artist loft or liquitex at near $8 a 4oz pouch if you shop the sales at Michael's and where you can get them for $2-3 a 4oz tube. Funny cause I was gonna suggest breaking it down per ml to get a true cost analysis, so great comment about breaking it down cost wise. Now I will say, I've seen artists break down the arteza to a 7-1 ratio and still get great pigment load so maybe you could continue your experiment beyond just the 4-1 ratio to see at what point the pigment load maxes out. Anyhow, great video.
