His intoxicating, rough and dynamic Rockpalast performance on November 4, 1976 marked the big European breakthrough for young Canadian multi-instrumentalist Pat Travers who had just landed a major deal with Polydor in London. At that time, his band consisted of Peter “Mars” Cowling on bass and Nicko McBrain who is meanwhile drumming for Iron Maiden. Several albums later, in the 80’s, when hard rock and blues orientated rock lost its impact due to punk and new wave, Travers moved back to the US where the scene was still hooked on the genre. Still, Travers has the best reputation as a great live act with all his full speed energy and he connected well with his fans.

      Fender Greg.
I'm guilty of the same thing bro.
It was our teen tempo that led us to other types of music at the time. Plus, this stuff wasn't played much on FM radio, so we missed a lot until we found the bargain bin full of cheap cassettes at the big department stores. 👍
P.S. I wonder where Nicko buried that hat at? LoL

      Sweet 👍
FL was a hot bed for bands back then.
I grew under military Pappy off the farm, so work was everything and any horse play or concerts were a rarity.
We had to travel thirty miles just to meet girls.
LoL As a kid in the 70's AM Gold country and pop was it until I got Sabbath's Paranoid album.
Then farmhouse parties and loud tube amps became the venue 🎉.
A lot of fun, no cops showing up and nobody could say turn it down or else. 👍

This takes me back. Pre-Christmas 1981 and I'm stuck snowed in my house. All while being suspended from school for 5 days. Myself and a friend decided to do a little Smoking in the auditorium. Principal didn't see our humor. I was out of school a total of 27 days. Due to suspension, Christmas break and snow days. Tbis was long before i saw cable tv. Entertainment a kickass radio station at the time 96.9 WLAV FM. They loved to play Pat Travers. Hanging out watching it snow, smoking weed and rocking. "Rock n Roll Suzy" woll always be my favorite. First heard of this. Such a pleasure as I'm not a musician. It take you far if you are a well trained musician and not a show off. I was so entertained. I was in the hedonistic mood. It's gets you in the guts. Like I said well disaplined musicians have the freedom to improvise to the mood. Loved every second. Love the confidence. Money well spent in being there.

I was a HUGE Pat Travers fan. Then my band got to open for him and Foghat in the 90’s. Backstage Pat invited us to join him for some beers. Such a great guy and musician, band leader. One of my fondest memories from gigging; getting to meet your favorite musicians and find out they’re really fun and cool people.

I saw PT play at a bar in San Diego in the early two thousands called brick by brick. There was like four bands and Pat went last. The other bands brought their friends,by the the time Pat played there was only about twenty people left to watch. It was awesome, the guy is a virtuoso.

This is great. I bought Makin' Magic in 78 and Putting it Straight after that. Huge influence on me. When the Live Album hit in 80 it was over the top. I used to call this pre-shred, but it really just stands on its own.

I found out about Mr. Travers in the late 70s when I was in high school. I was just discovering about rock and blues. Really had no idea how good he really was until years later. He is getting some killer tone from that tele. Great video!
