Great video and instructions!!!! We feel your pain on the rain and water clarity. Wylie has looked like chocolate milk for what seems like two months now.
Good job on the video. Enjoyed watching you shooting docks and pulling out some good crappie. Good seeing you let AJ tag alone :) Look forward to seeing other fishing videos from you in the future. AJ, pull out some those hair jigs and give them a go.
Good video, particularly about the side imaging, but I wish you'd show more of the rod shooting technique. You got your jig in some really tight spots!
Larry Marek I will do a few more dock shooting videos this fall. I will go more in depth on technique and the type of docks to look for when shooting. Thanks for watching!
Very cool technique! The lake I fish they have a NO FISHIN WITHIN 10 FEET OF DOCK! It sucks! It's a awesome lake power plant lake with great crappie.. Great Video and awesome side scan imaging too!! Thank you
Great video. I love shooting docks. Curious about how deep ur transducer is mounted below water level. I can’t get sonar return on submerged pontoons on sidescan and wonder if my transducer is mounted too far down on the transom. Thx
slab dockter thank you! As far as the transducer goes, pretty much just follow the instructions that come from humminbird. It depends a lot on how close you are to the dock and what type of dock you are searching on. Thank you for watching!
This is good stuff buddy. Thanks for making this channel. Can you show set up you have on side imaging. Such as speed you run it and what color settings to use. I have Humminbird helix models and can’t get it dialed in like I want it. Keep up the videos!
Michael Tew I’m probably gonna do two separate videos for side imaging. One for the older humminbird units and then a separate video only for the helix models. I will try to show how I have my graph set up for crappie. I appreciate you watching!
can you explain how to set up the side imaging to show the crappie with black background and not faded into the ground? like at 2:03 you can see the the crappie very distinctly and i can not figure out how to set the side imaging to these settings. The black is supposed to be the water in between the transducer and the ground due to the angle, so does that mean you just angle the transducer more to the side or is there a setting for that?? sorry if this is a dumb question but im new to the marine electronics
Warhorse514 there is no such thing as a dumb question when you are trying to learn something new. I’m gonna try to have my side imaging video out by Thursday afternoon I will try my best to explain how I have my graphs set up for crappie fishing, especially dock fishing like you see in the video. Thanks for the great tips. You make it seems so easy. What length rod and weight of your line? Would like to see more of your shooting technique. Do you do crappie guide service
scott brower thanks for watching! You got a great graph! Best advice on learning it I can give is just idle around with it on playing with the settings till you get the picture you like!
Do you ever use braided line when shooting docks? I use hi vis 4 lb mono line. I broke off several times on Hartwell on Monday. Was thinking of trying braid to see how well the line comes off to get back under the pontoons and docks.
Great video a lot of good information, I just got a new Hummingbird 7” si Gen 2 I don’t see anything like you do on my screen , any idea what I’m doing wrong ?
Honestly, either you aren’t close enough to the fish to make them show up like that or there aren’t enough fish where you are scanning. I have never found any model humminbird to lie to me lol. Also your lake may not hold them on docks like my lakes around here. Thanks for watching!
Rockfisher I will let the jig sink for a few seconds then start reeling in. If I don’t get a bite I will let it sink further and further each cast till I start catching them! Thank you for watching!
Love these types of videos! Great look of fish under dock(s) on electronics- in fact best I have seen. Do you always depend on seeing fish on electronics before you fish a particular dock or will you sometimes fish a dock even if you are not seeing fish on electronics? Another comment mentioned your particular settings - I am curious as well. I have a 899 SI combo that I have used, but have not seen nearly as good return(s) as you showed. That said, unit in video is a newer unit with a bigger screen than mine. Lastly - is there a particular knot you use to tie on jig? Again- great video. Thanks for sharing.
WILTmusic you can shoot docks in as high of winds as you can stand it. When it is extremely windy and if i have somebody with me, I will run the trolling motor and just let them shoot the dock. You usually have to use a heavier jighead to even attempt it. But you are basically right, anything over 10mph and I sleep in! Thank you for watching!

Very nice informative video with nice production value what kind of cameras are you using? And by the way Hartwell is a lot clearer than where I live on Murray, it's so muddy down here I could just about walk on water.

I didn’t change them much from the factory default but yes I tuned them a little bit. One of the next videos I will put up talks just about humminbird graphs! Thanks for watching!
Forgot to say...good video, keep them coming.when you shoot under there and let it fall watch your line for that tick,I'm a line watcher, takes time to figure it all out.Lot of the time the bigger crappie will be under the smaller ones, closer to the bottom.
209chevymon medium light is my preference. It is MUCH more sensitive than a medium, and it also varies rod to rod too. The southern crappie rod I was using in the video is a medium light. If you even want more sensitivity use 4lb line, but it just sinks quicker than 6lb.
209chevymon 2lb+ fish aren’t uncommon under docks around here, so I found a happy medium where I can feel a bluegill bite with ease but yet flip a 2lb donkey in the boat. It’s ultimately what you are comfortable with though!
kovid perng the entire video we use an 1/16th oz jighead paired with a Bobby garland swimmer bait. The color is called green licorice. Thanks for watching!
I have always found when shooting docks in muddy or dirty water, bright colors and curl tails always worked better.... count down to the depth they are holding and use a straight retrieve. You can thank me later! Hahahahaha! Thanks for the video!
William Parish in my personal experience the muddier and murkier the water is on a “clear water” lake, the fish will totally leave the locations they typically are until conditions go back to normal. Now is spring in muddy water you bet I’m using a bright color! Thank you for your feeback and for watching!
Douglas bunn I would have to disagree with that. I have found brush with fish on it 100 ft out beside the boat. You really have to understand the megahertz and when to change it to get the full potential of out mega imaging.
Here's my take on this. My relatives feed the fish to keep them around their docks. And yet others come harvest the damn fish they have fed and bulked up for the kids to catch NOT for strangers to come by and reap what my relatives have worked and paid for their kids to enjoy. Another thing how comfortable would you leave to work with strangers around your boat and docks.
Tim Fisher generally any reel that is suitable for 4-6lb test line with a smooth drag. I like the abu Garcia cardinal series reel. For shooting docks I use 6lb stren clear mono.

Otis Brewer I appreciate your advice but right now i have no reason to try a different rod at this time. Thank you for watching!
Be hard for me to throw those back. Good eating
Nunya Nunya I agree. I have quite a few in the freezer so these went back swimming! Thank you for watching!
The word is crappie should sound like lot in the middle of the word
keith weedt don’t matter how you say it, they taste the same 😉
@@ClearWaterCrappie Thanks for pronouncing crappie the way we say it here in SC (after all, it's bass, not boss)! 😜
Have seen some fisherman mash the barbs down.
Pit Dawg lol thank you for watching!
Here we go with the my dock my fish BULLS%*T. Always at least one in every crowd
Larry Hobbs ikr.... build a private pond if you don’t want people fishing it
Dont put your private dock on a public lake and not expect it to get fished.
What kind of reel do you use and how light of line?
Tim Fisher generally any reel that is suitable for 4-6lb test line with a smooth drag. I like the abu Garcia cardinal series reel. For shooting docks I use 6lb stren clear mono.
