- Ronald is up for his Parole hearing, he feels he's rehabilitated, Unfortunately his hero and foe Shadow disagrees and turns up to ruin it for poor old Ronald (Who likes to burn old ladies and set fire to the whole world)
I don't own the copyright to this movie or any part of it, I'm just a huge fan of Backdraft, Donald Sutherland, Robert De Niro basically the whole cast.
With this being my favourite clip of the movie itself.
Hope you enjoy.
Burn it ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
Donald Sutherland’s masterclass in acting. RIP
R.I.P.
I don't know why so many in the comments have to make this scene political. The point of this scene is to show how criminally insane, but extremely intelligent, Ronald is. He remembers every detail about every crime he's committed. He remembers everything about the people he knows. It shows establishes what an expert arsonist he is. It shows that the entire time he's been locked up in prison, he has played the part of a "model prisoner". Up until the point Shadow confronts him, it shows what an expert manipulator he is by lying to his psychiatrist for 6 years straight and the parole board with a straight face. But Shadow sees through the charade, and that's why Ronald gets upset and says "That's not fair Shadow" when he shows the doll. This is a very powerful scene.
Mark some men just wanna watch the world burn.
@@nobutur Think it was the film's way to show how crazed of an arson he is; a mere memento of one of his previous crimes was enough to undo 6 years of fooling a parole board and reignite (no pun intended) his desire to simply "burn it all."
Probably because many of the politicians we elect are criminally insane.
Who's made it political? There are crazies.
Привет из России. Солидарен с тобой
TWO, masterclass’ of acting, De Niro & Sutherland. Pity they only had small parts in Backdraft.
Yeah, sadly 90's Hollywood had a really desperate fixation with pushing young male actors ahead and keeping the legends behind them. It was like an odd cleansing they were trying to do, maybe to get rid of the old and look hip? Years later, De Niro is still putting a master class on and Billy Baldwin is....where...?
Absolutely, I've never seen this movie and I'm so psyched to see these two great actors do a scene together!!! And they're really bouncing off each other, very cool!
Regarding the comment above me about 90s Hollywood; I know what he's saying but I do want to note that De Niro did "Cape Fear", "Guilty Beyond Suspicion", "Goodfellas" and "Awakenings" all around the same time period, I don't think anyone was holding De Niro back from doing major starring roles! And De Niro was taking supporting roles even in the mid-80s ("Untouchables", 'Angel Heart", "Brazil", The Mission"). Sutherland was still appearing in good roles in movies throughout the 90s and had always been more of an ensemble actor anyways. He could play a lead role, but he'd just as often pop up in something like "Animal House" in a supporting role.
@@shindeanis Billy Baldwin still on Twitter?
My favorite scene of Backdraft . A great movie and actor !!!
The move Shadow makes was incredible. The second he brought out the doll and reminded of what crimes and pain were committed, Donald became aroused. They almost let him go free.
RIP Donald Sutherland. You will be greatly missed.
Wonderful cameo by Mr Sutherland ... sublime.
Of all Deniros movies. The most overwhelming and overlooked.
See you next year Ronald
There needs to be a rule that Donald Sutherland has to be in every movie.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news…
Well Movies had a good run, no more to be made.
Let's not go overboard. I think the dosage the public received was just enough.
R.I.P. Donald Sutherland(1935-2024)
The wee lick of the lips after "burn it all" is truly terrifying.
Good catch.
Basically it’s shadow’s way of telling Ronald that he can fool the parole board, but not him. As soon as Ronald is granted parole, he was gonna go right back to his old ways. At least that’s how I view it.
I thought the scene showed what a pyromaniac Ronald was.
@@VonWenk Both of you are correct. Ronald was such a pyromaniac that he would do anything to fullfill his desires, even if it means fooling parole boards over and over again into thinking that he had changed, even though he never left in his old ways as a pyromaniac all along. For such extreme displays of pyromania AND deception you need someone who is familiar with Ronald and/or at least his pathology, and that someone is Shadow.
Such an amazing film, I always remembered this scene. Chilling
There's big difference between an arsonist, and an arsonist who has pyromania. Shadow knew this, and made Ronald's mask slip.
Some men just want to watch the world burn.
-Alfred pennyworth.
Alfwise pennyworth
Ronald couldn't lie to shadow.....simple as that, even the most insane people can have those who they trust and cannot lie to....in real life as well as movies.
Well Ronald and Shadow go way back to younger years, and Shadow saved Ronald. I mean demented or not, that still sticks with you in your brain. Ronald does have respect for Shadow, but he's still a mentally disturbed arsonist either way, but he is useful in his knowledge to help fire investigations from a different perspective.
I believe Ronald is a psychopath, a pyromaniac, I don't see him showing any signs of insanity at all. That's why he is a frightening character - fiercely intelligent and capable he burns and kills with no compunctions. My opinion is offered without prejudice.
Ronald could make for an amazing spinoff/ origin movie!
It could show how his pyromania originated, his reign of terror as an arsonist, and how he was eventually caught.
Cast Kiefer in the role
Maybe, but it would deviate from the story in "Backdraft".
This movie is about arson fires involving backdraft incidents which are set by a firefighter.
Ronald's story is more of an unrelated footnote.
@@Timbrock1000 That's neither here nor there. Spinoffs never have the same plots as the movie/series they are spun off from, they merely share the same universe.
1:37 Great work by De Niro there, you can just feel his scars
I have not been a firefighter for years but I still think about it every time I hear a fire truck siren.
Ronald! Arson's answer to Hannibal Lector!
Donald Sutherland: only he could be an utterly electric pyromaniac.
My favorite scene from this movie LOL great acting by Donald Sutherland !!!
See you next year Ronald
He blew it! 😂😂😂😂
@@richnoble3577 Shadow Rimlage knew exactly just how very manipulative Ronald Bartlett was totally remorseless sociopathic evil and unfit to re-enter society because serial arsonists like him love setting fires and watching things burn because it's a sickness like an addictive drug they thrive on it Shadow proved his point to the parole board that Ronald Bartlett is a true menace to society that needs to be locked away forever and that a leopard doesn't change its spots.
@@lindamusila3641 yes he did and hands down to the late Donald Sutherland's acting performance in this role and I'll say this Ronald Bartlett is the Hannibal Lecter of Serial Arsonists. R.I.P. Donald Sutherland(1935-2024) you will be missed
RIP Donald Sutherland. He brilliantly played a sick in the head fire 🔥 bug in this film
Bloody incredible acting. The worst thing is that we didn't realise it at the time. It's when we come back to videos like this that we realise how so very, very good he was. RIP DS.
My favorite Donald Sutherland role. So much done with so little camera time. RIP.
Honestly, Eye of the Needle is mine.
RIP Donald Sutherland!! Great Acting King!!❤❤
Seen this movie at the cinema in modesto calfornia August 1991 aged 15 happy memories
I love how he calls fire the animal!!
He called fire the animal
Fire is an animal. You can't tame fire
What always got to me about Donald Sutherland has been his EYES. He could look so kind at one moment, then so menacing the next.
That was terrifying
I love all characters.
RIP to a true legend
Donald Sutherland plays this so well that it probably creeped out half the set.
*Donald- Are you coming to my wrap barbeque?
*Everyone- Hell no!
I think the way Baldwin looked at Deniro when Sutherland was describing why he called Deniro shadow he genuinely looked surprised and shocked. I guess it clicked when he saw him earlier in his office with the scars on his back.
Shadow...Shadow...Hi Shadow!
ClassicCinemaMC lmao
😂😂😂😂😂
"This funny thing about firemen...night and day they're always firemen."
He was great in Backdraft..May he rest peacefully..and may Keifer continue the family legacy ❤
It is that scene whitch you remmeber in years after watching it. Sutherland was a great actor RIP
All great actors, icons really.
How does anyone who burned a little girl get a parole hearing
he was criminally insane, and the board assumed he was no longer insane. They were proved wrong by Deniro's character in this scene though.
Getting a hearing and being paroled are two very different things.
So was that before or after you noticed you were standing next to a tub of phosphorus?
Nice take on the *lake of gasoline* line 🔥
VolumeTurnedDown WAS THAT BEFORE OR AFTER YOU NOTICED YOU WERE STANDING NEXT TO A TUB OF PHOSPHORUS, YOU IDIOT??!!!
They've been through this before. Ronald knows he won't pass Shadow's test, but he puts on the show for the parole board anyway, just in case. Sinister.
That one line:
“Do I know you?”
“Your dad did.”
Man,does that hits home
God i love him, his acting in this is brilliant.!
"What do you do to old ladies Ronald?"
"Burn them (laughs)"
Me: whoa fuck! Psyco exposed!
We would always quote this scene playing Age of Empires.
"What did you do to their villagers, Ronald?"
"(He he) I burned them."
"What did you do to their Monks?"
"I ...burned them."
"What about light blue? What do you want to do to light blue?"
"Burn it. Burn it all."
RIP Donald
Love the way DeNiro says: excuse me, see you again next year
He's taking about Trump 😂😂😂😂
Ol' Ronald was one of those guys that Alfred was talking to Bruce Wayne about when he said, "Some people just want to watch the world burn."
Mr. Sutherland will be so missed.
They made a sequal to Backdraft and Donald Sutherland reprised his role as Ronald the torch. RIP Donald
BURN IT ALL. one of my top 3 favorite insane villains, I love him
The leprechaun told Ronald to burn things too
ah cha cha cha
Most realistic scene in the whole movie. A parole board with a shrink thinks a violent murderer should be let out of prison so that he can kill again. It might as well be a documentary.
Has this happened often?
@@RustCole01 Yes that kind of stuff happens often. Where I live (Canada) there was a guy on a bus who killed another passenger by cutting his head off and walking around the bus with it. He's out after serving less then 5 years because he was determined to be insane at the time he did it. A drunk driver named Marco Muzzo (billionaires son) killed 3 kids and their grandfather in the city I live in 2015. Thanks to the parole board he's walking around free, that's less then 2 years for each death.
@@stinkyham9050 Did they kill again, though? Because, if you actually found out that they did, then there would be some precedent behind your statements. As far as what we know from what you wrote, these guys got parole and you're upset that they've been given a chance at all, with no evidence that anything has come of it since.
@@johnyoutuber9781 Wow. I mean wow. So you think I should be OK with the fact a guy who cut off a teenagers head on a bus is out of prison after 5 years simply because that person hasn't done it again since being released? Are you insane. The guy should get the death penalty (which we no longer have in Canada) or in the very least be in prison for the rest of his life. Your right I do have a huge problem with a guy like that walking around even if they never do it again.
@@stinkyham9050 no, you shouldn't be ok. I can't, and should never direct people what to believe. I believe, however, that rehabilitative justice is better than punitivr justice.
RIP Donald. Definitely one of his greatest performances.
A great actor who was loved by many and will be missed.
What an amazing actor
My fav scene.
See Ronald likes telephones 😂😂😂😂😂😮😮😮😮😮
Fantastic scene between two extraordinary actors.
Now he can argue that some kid warged into him and made him say "Burn it all!"
RIP Donald Sutherland!
I always wondered if Ronald was implying that he started the fire that Stephen and Brian's father died in
Uh. Yes thats what happened.
Now i miss Donald..😢
& they was going to let this guy out!!!😮
Ronald is just a little misunderstood... thats all! lol
Ronald found redemption in music he did get parole and has his own band.disco inferno their called he tries but can't get a gig anyplace judgemental people what can you say.
Donald Sutherland does such an outstanding job playing a nut case in any movie that he is featured in. It makes you wonder... RIP Donald.
What do we burn apart from witches, Ronald?
Nothing says 90's flick more than a hazy courtroom.
Rip Donald Sutherland 1935-2024
Such a great movie!
he even slightly looks like a smokey fire, with wispy ash coloured hair, redish complextion and impish darting about eyes
Classic! Legends. RIP Mr. Sutherland.
Ronald was right about fireman. They're always fireman.
took his soul in that sentence
My favourite seen from this movie.
Donald Sutherland ten to fifteen minutes of screen time in this and my god does he put in the work!
That scene I forgot about. What a nut sounds like something I'd hear some one say or and all his friendly matches. Oo
Wait...Ronald....Donald ....Sutherland
Burn it all
Ronald 2024 - Burn It All
"See ya next year, Ronald"!😂😂😂
If Aerys II Targaryen - The mad King should be play by an Actor, its certainly Donald.S ;)
Ronald is naughty
snatcherb fucking pyshco
my opinion, but playing a psycho, a serial killer, anybody with a dark passenger, to use dexter's phrase, is akin to playing a drunk. if you try to play drunk, then it looks fake or vaudevillian and amateurish by today's acting standards. you have to play it like you're trying to hide the fact that you're drunk. that's donald's gift in this portrayal, he leans into ronald's normal characteristics, but the obsession and desire to hurt leaks out all around the seams. that's the role of de niro in this scene, he's there because he's intimate with ronald and he knows he can't hide it if pressed. the parole board serves no purpose other than as negative commentary on social bureaucracy.
Best scene in the whole movie.
character based on a one Fat Albert, legendary arsonist known to many Chicago firemen during early 80s
And Don Rimgale was a real CFD official
RIP DONALD SUTHERLAND 😢
Happy B-day to you Shadow .
rip. great actor
He said they never proved it. ✌️🏠🔥I know an ARSON man. I won't say his name, but he went to prison for it.
Did the fire look at you?
"Never proved aaahhh......uhhhh".
RIP
See you all next year😆
I think George Martin got the Burn them all line from here .....
Ronald is more than naughty is a freak its not fair
Sutherland was completely insane in this, and they were going to parole him. lol
So the professional shrink was totally fooled but the fireman knows how to tap into his inner demons? Ok
It is the best scene.
you record this from VHS onto VHS then film it with a handycam?
They kids in my neighborhood set these houses on FIRE 🔥🚒.I WATCHED THESE HOUSES CAUGHT FIRE 🔥. POINTLESS. THEY DESTROYED SOMEONE'S PROPERTY. 🔥🚒✝️
His psychiatrist did a good job, obviously he's totally cured from pyromania 😅
Was that before or after you realized you were standing on a mountain of phosphorus?
This movie is now persona non grata. Anything with De Niro in it is worthless, period!
