my favorite part of fable was i never watched any of the videos where peter made all these promises he didnt fulfill and i just played the game with no prior knowledge of what the game had to offer, and they were great games
@@JCuttyYT 😅😅 I think he was the one behind the idea of adding the dog to the series, but if I remember it right, that was one of the only good ideas he had for the series.
@1ViivviiX1 No shit... I know alot of people love 2, but to me all of them are vastly inferior to the first one. I even kind of like 3 better, just because it doesn't even feel like an attempt to recapture the magic- whereas 2 is just an inferior copy of the first. I don't know what he was thinking with the whole, "you can't die," thing- as if the first one wasn't already ridiculously easy after the slightest amount of progression.
@blackmonish The second definitely isn't better than the first IMO as well, TLC/Anniversary will always be my favorite, hands down. But I still thoroughly enjoyed 2 and like the fact it resembles and has more of the systems that 3 took away. 3 messed with the job system and made it worse, the experience system worse, the menu/UI worse, and more. 3 added some cool things. But for every thing it added good, there was double that added that wasn't good I guess. I got a video on my channel I just put out going over all the good and the bad from all 3 games that I would or wouldn't want to see in the next title they are working on to reboot the series if interested in hearing my detailed takes on the matter. All in all though, the second games best addition happen to be the dog companion IMO lol.
To be fair, he delivered three solid games that were highly rated, fun and made money. ALL developers lie in interviews, its just politics, however, he did give us a nice trilogy to have fun with.
I wish they put Fable 2 and 3 on Steam, I liked Fable 3 and would buy it again, but Fable 2 was the best. I had so many hours sunk into Fable 2, same with Fable 1. I still play Fable 1 on Steam once and awhile, it's just a fun game to play after all these years. Here's hoping the new Fable is fun.
I have a little hope for fable 5 but what I'm really excited for is heros of Avalon I wanna see how much peter is gonna disappoint on the features he promises but I think it will be a competent game just not what we've been told just like the majority of his games
This is a quality video, I see your sub count is low. Hopefully this video helps you get some more traction. I personally didn't think Fable 3 was a complete failure, but it did take so many working things and "Fixed" them when they didn't need to be. Fable TLC/Anniversary and Fable 2 will always be classics. I went ahead and subbed to you and look forward to more high-quality stuff, such as this video. I personally just released a video discussing what I would like to see in the next release in the Fable series. I helped beta test Fable Legends. It was a very fun game and everyone was surprised that it was canceled about a week before it was going to be released. It would be great if they brought back the characters from Legends as playable characters in a future Fable game.
MS: "Closing Lionhead was a mistake, we'll learn from it and won't do it again." also MS: closes Arkane Austin after one flop and Tango Gameworks after one of the best games of the year
To be clear, Tango Gameworks closed down because all of the people who made Hi-Fi Rush left the studio after it was launched. Tango physically couldn't make another Hi-Fi Rush with the spirit of the original.
@@JCuttyYT In the case of Hi-Fi Rush, the main mind behind left the company after the game's release to go somewhere else, and the rest of the team left to join him. As for Redfall, we don't know much about why it came out the way it did, but it's generally presumed that the game suffered from being in development hell and being pigeonholed into being a live service when no one wanted it to be one.
Never had an Xbox so only played Fable 1 only a few times at my cousins house. Hopefully the new Fable is really good in a way that’s good for old fans and new fans. We really are missing this type of RPG in modern times.
That was a really well put together condensed account of the development for the Fable franchise, looking forward to future uploads. Really hoping that the new reboot turns out well!
Great video mate. I remember being scared of Fable 1 as a kid, because of how bloody it got. But I also remember loving it and the sequels. 2000's was the most magical time for Fantasy games, movies and alike.
Fable on Xbox was my first rated M game. I played 3 years later, I was so disappointed, then i got the Lost Chapters on Steam, pure nostalgia there. Never played Fable 2 though
@@JCuttyYT Anniversary is actually what I meant, that was how I even discovered the Lost Chapters. That first playthrough took me back. I wish Fable 2 was on steam!!!
I only ever played the first game, and I remember being extremely disappointed by it. Not because of the developers over promising- I didn’t know about any of that. But because of my friends over promising. I had friends compare Fable to Morrowind and Baldur’s Gate. So I was expecting an open world RPG. But the RPG elements were really underwhelming- combat was more like a hack and slash with very linear character progression. And the “open world” was just a bunch of hallways you could run down. But despite this, the game seemed absolutely stuck up it’s own ass- like, it was a mid-quality game that was ok, but was convinced it was the greatest game ever made. All in all, I didn’t understand why it was so well-liked back then, and I don’t understand why it’s considered a classic now.
I never beat fable but I just enjoyed running around in the environment. I guess we got fallout now but I have yet to get a chance to play it due to the constant struggle of living in America.
if Fable was done with early 2000s Ubisoft I would dream to have Peter Molyneux work with Rayman's Michael Ancel. I think those 2 working together would result with many conflicts in the studio and them making one of the best and most innovative games ever made.
Fable was a great series but the gaming world has very much moved on. I know theyre making a new one buy i doubt they’ll capture that same fairytale feeling the first two had
i hate how they made the first one on PC and then all the next ones xbox-only. I wanted to play them so bad... but i didn't have and didn't want to buy an Xbox just for 2 games.
Sounds like "Dungeon Siege" 1 and 2 were fantastic. 3 took away the "make your own destiny" style play, and locked you into premade characters who had specific skills. It just wasn't as fun. Fable and Dungeon Siege were from the golden age of MS gaming. They have been in decline ever since
Fable was overrated I remember playing when it first came out and all the promises that it wasn’t delivered. The funniest thing is no matter your build you still need to use a bow and arrow to fight the final boss lol
tragic ? Fable ??? It was a nice franchise but it hardly ever achieved anything spectacular. I will grant it had its own tone : fairy tale like ( the English accent, the Danny Elfman soundtrack , the slightly super deformed charac design ) … but it was VERY hit and miss too. The game tried to do so much that it didn’t do any of them very convincingly. The developers tried to clean up the mess of Molyneux ridiculous promises ( see an acorn grows into a tree and other BS like that) but the result is still messy. Like in fable 1 What’s the use of getting married ? Why buy property ? The game is this weird mix of action rpg/ life sim / property management. It seems to be better integrated in the sequels. But I would argue it’s still an unconvincing formula. And in that Fable 3 is the logical conclusion : the property management side finally kills the adventure. Fable has always been an awkward proposition of a franchise. It’s more reflective of Molineux personal obsession about morality system and management system than a proper gameplay thinking. Trying to mix features that had very little to do with one another. Its demise was logical. We can only hope that the reboot finally has more focus on the real value : fairy tale tone . Make it a grand scale western Zelda (with a touch of Monkey Island and King Quest) . More English accent, more betting, more zanny humor, better combat,. Same kind of music and bigger truely open world. Possibly keep the aging and the morality system BUT IF AND ONLY IF you can develop them properly. Do that and you’re gold. And drop absolutely everything else. It serves no use and just steal some precious development time. Don’t try to reinvent the wheel. Because you already tried 3 times and it never quite worked.
Fable was never great, just good. The combat sucked. There's a name for holding a higher praise from something you have experienced in the past: nostalgia.
Great video man! The only thing is, they didn't just get hate for the gay shit. You watched all those vids from Peter just like I did, and when Peter promised me the moon, I believed every word. I was expecting to set down Oblivion forever, as my multiple generations of children aided in my rise to godhood. Buuuutttt, even though I wasn't aware of it, he did the same with the first. As silly as this is, he literally recieved 2 death threats for not including the aforementioned ability to plant a tree. I didn't realize anyone was even offended by that stuff. Peter always rolled his eyes whenever he'd bring up gay romance options, so I literally just took it as a joke more than anything. But, it being one of the first to do that, I could see how some people may have taken that too far. Again, great video man! Very well presented in both a concise and informative manner.
