As anyone with a chronic illness can tell you, a day of relief is a breath of fresh air. I'm happy to report that I have been medicine free and pain free for nearly 5 years at this point. To me the difference between cured and remission is a state if mind. I am cured because even if something were to pop it's evil head up again at some point in my life I would know what to do and how to deal with it and Crohn's will NEVER rule my life again and that is what I mean by cured.

@@asnwoa8280 yes since 2007. My first GI bleed was very obvious and in 2005 towards the end of my course of accutane, although unfortunately there is really no way to get reparations from Roche. I used to be very involved with the CCFA but they act like gangsters at the higher level. But whenever I meet someone else with Crohns (or any gut condition that is similar) it is like meeting a fellow solider off the battlefield. It's a real band of brothers, I've met or corresponded online with a few hundred fellow patients over the years and it's really a blessing even though it's also a gauntlet, the disease itself. I'm doing okay overall but not totally in remission, once the first surgery it's hard to have gut balance with the gut Flora due to bile acid mal-absorbtion as well as SIBO because the ileo-cecal valve between small and large intestines gets taken out it's where Crohn's usually starts. Look up Bile acid mal-absorbtion it can occur secondary to Crohn's even when a patient has had no surgery. What's cool is that medication I have to take, at least it protects me from c diff, it binds to free bile salts/bile acid so it doesn't cause a sort of colitis or very extreme IBS Once reaching the colon. And guess what? Most gastros don't seem to know how common it can be both before or after any Crohn's surgery, my surgeon actually thanked me and was happy when I figured out why I had such bad symptoms, but different symptoms, after a bowel resection. Free bile is really harsh in the pH of the colon and it burns so,sorry to share but if you ever run into that it can be mitigated both with and without medications. Psyllium fiber can help prevent bike acid mal-absorbtion if you don't want to try cholestyramine

I've had crohn's for 15 years with 30+ surgeries (ostomy bag for 1 year and several feet of my small intestines removed). I've been on several biologics and a sleu of other drugs. None of which address the actual problem. I can relate to where you are physically and mentally. I have been in remission for 3 years now and on zero medication. It takes extreme discipline and a positive attitude (something that is almost impossilbe when you are at your lowest) . What worked for me over the last 3 years was taking daily ice baths and using a sauna everyday. I also do intermittent fasting everyday and eat only one meal a day. It gives your GI tract time to rest and heal. The pharmaceutical companies don't make any money curing you. To date, I have ran several half marathons. It's possible to do what he is professing, but it is definitely not an easy road. Just know that you can heal from this disease. Check out a documentary called Fasting.

I to have beat Crohn's twice in my life. Same reports no Crohn's found.
However it keeps coming back. Just had my third surgery for Crohn's and cancer
was found at the site of my Crohn's (small intestine) which I was told is very rare.
The cancer was removed (stage 2) and now I am working on beating both cancer and Crohn's and I believe I will do it and again get an all clear report in the near future.

I train cardio 3/4 days a week, eat a mostly plant-based diet (I occasionally indulge in chicken), as well as avoiding lactose, caffeine and alcohol. I suffer with Crohn's Disease and my lifestyle hasn't changed that. Don't get me wrong. I'm healthier than I was back when I ate like your average early-20s single guy (at least in terms of energy levels) but I still have regular pain and inflammation. I'm glad this has worked for him but it makes me sad that some people can actually beat the illness with lifestyle while others will suffer regardless.

I also recommend doing high intensity resistance training for 50 mins 5x a week and then running or swimming for 15-20 mins at low intensity after your high intensity workout. Do this regimen for 6 months and not only will you look better feel better and be better but you will also be shredded

Are you taking lactose free dairy? Caseins can get into the blood whole there's a form called casomorphins they are an opiate which is why dairy before bed can mess with your dreams. A doc name I forget noticed the high volume of Crohn's sufferers with a mental disorder such as ADD, ADHD, Aspergers (which I have). So Gluten and Caseins, for me at least are out. I'd suggest soy cheese, almond milk etc, nothing from a cow. Don't get me wrong I haven't started my diet yet and am a noob but the guy that provided my info says everyone is different, keep a diary and note foods eaten prior to a flare up.

For me, a combination of the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (complete elimination of complex carbohydrates to starve overgrown bacterias off), kefir and other probiotics, meditation, dealing with repressed anger and "poor me"/victim/self-hating and fear based thoughts (an incomplete endeavor still! :P ) as well as getting as much easily absorbable nutrition as possible from bone broth etc and completely eliminating processed foods took the pain away. Tumeric and oregano oil can help when its bad. I was allergic to immune suppressing drugs so pretty desperate for a solution since the Crohn's was serious like it is for us all. Yup, it was quite an effort but definitely worth it. After a year of that, I was really feeling healed, though I am still careful. I understand it can be so hard and the answer is a bit different for everyone. I'd recommend starting with a food journal you may have one already! I wish you all the best on your healing journey! You'll get there.

I was diagnosed in 2006 aftre falling ill in India and believing to have caught a bug. After severe weight loss and many tests my great doctor said 'Crohn's' and sent me to a specialist who found hundreds of ulcers in my intestine. I didn't panic, I asked what I should eat and she gave me the basic outline. She also prescribed a huge pill to take six times a day, or granules to sprinkle over all food. I chose to eliminate problem food instead of medecines and began testing what were triggers. I have been really ill to the point of suicidal thoughts but when I am well, the sky is the limit. I suffered from migraine from childhood and it only got worse as I got older but one day it just stopped when I gave up my ultra busy career and took a back seat. I remember the days when the migraine went and how fabulously great I felt and I would get so much done. Same thing with Crohn's. I am going into hospital in September to have part of my intestine removed which should help a lot. I don't complain about it, it is what it is.

Obviously I can’t speak for what will work for your son, but I would very much recommend looking into Cannabis based treatments as they have a known history of helping people who suffer from Crohn’s. I’ve gone from being underweight and not being able to eat a single thing without throwing up to now being a completely healthy weight, I eat multiple full portion meals everyday and have zero issue anymore. My main advice though is to seek out different cannabis based treatments and always be prepared to take your own initiative. Crohn’s is still very much an unknown illness in that they don’t know exactly what causes it or how to stop it, so taking my own way ways the only way that really worked for me and it worked out well. Ive has crohns for 20 yrs. It has been my curse and my blessing. Every time i eat or drink something bad it flares up. So now i know better, my party days are OVER. Only thing I can do is smoke a blunt, which is enough to have a great time for me. I eat very very little meats and fried or processed foods. Lots and lots of greens and even with that I might over eat or drink and i will have horrible month flare ups. None the less, i can recommend hydroterapy to reset your system and start all over again. It has been absolutely essential to do this and then find out which foods make your inflamation worse. Now i know i am allergic to corn, and evertthing has corn so, its hard but not impossible. Read every single food you take, no corn syrup, corn starches, pastas, potatoes (french fries are the worst), bagels, eggs, meats, NO BURGERS! and go easy on milk and sugars.

One can get a details from any wellknown naturopathic website to get food allergy tests, blood chemistry tests done for micropathology.
Ive observed some ancient medicines to be fantastic for intestinal diseases and as a doctor wonder why nutritional health is not being taught at medical schools when about 80 % of the diseases are known to be caused by bad diets?! why doesn't the health community come out full force against the damaging foods if they are so concerned with good health of people

I have to say that as somebody in the middle of a Crohn's flare, there's so much I've done over the past few years that probably brought it on. I should know better by now. I was in remission the last 15 years or so... but recently I've been overworking, stressed out and pulled into family drama (huge mistake, this is what triggered things for me initially), and generally leave myself with no energy by the end of the day for self care other than collapsing into bed for an uncomfortable night of "sleep."
Something has to change. Medication might help a little but it won't do the job all by itself.

I have Crohn's and can successfully stay in remission by eating meat, oil, rice, oats, eggs & lots of spices and herbs I also eat coconut, onion, garlic, ginger, chilli which i find is beneficial to me. All other veg is too high in fibre and causes a flare. I also have to avoid all other grains, Sugar in every form including sweeteners, alcohol, fruit. Can't have any Beans including cocoa or coffee beans or dairy but can have small amounts of homemade Nut milk that have been pre-soaked.

I tried a vegetarian diet and it almost killed me due to all the fiber. What has helped me is staying away from bad sugars and substituting with apples, bananas, etc. Staying away from fruits that have cartilage, fibers. Likewise, with vegetables. My vegetables are very cooked, and I seldom eat them with the exception of onions. I love onions, but again, very cooked. I eat fish, chicken, steak, eggs, etc. Quit alcohol entirely because it turns into sugar in your stomach which spikes the inflammation. I also do intermittent fasting. I fast between 16 and 18 hours a day. On weekends I choose 1 day of cheating my fasting, and on Monday I fast between 20 and 24 hours a day. I always break the fast with lots of vitamins, and eat eggs with fish, potatoes, etc. I also eliminated coffee from my diet. No soda, energy drinks, etc, and I rarely will treat myself to chocolate, or a chocolate shake/icecream. Again, rarely. I went from Humira every week, to every other week, to now every month. I've loss weight. I have no bloating. Last thing, I don't smoke cigarettes, and I rarely vape weed because it causes overeating, and overeating will kill you if you have Crohn's. Never overeat. Obviously, no popcorn, nuts of any kind, and rarely eat bread. I also eliminated rice completely. Hope this helps.

I have to agree with some of the arguments below, if you go plant-based and take out the things causing the inflammation (what crohn's disease is) and no inflammation is present, it doesn't make sense to call it remission. The lifestyle you previously lived put you in a state of disease and once you implement a plant-based diet you heal--if you went to a doctor unaware of your previous medical history they wouldn't be able to diagnose you with crohns because it's not there anymore. Obviously going back to the toxic lifestyle you once lived will make you sick again, if what you considered cured is going back to cheeseburgers and other processed non-foods then whatever, call it remission if you'd like. But whatever you call it, going plant-based as someone with crohns will make you even more healthy than the average person.

I was there for 8 years with my UC from 2010-2018 and then early this year I was diagnosed with Crohns. Our bodies our machines and remission lengths are so variable which is beyond frustrating

I was diagnosed with Crohns last November. Both my doctors told me diet had nothing to do with it, to take the 6MP or Remicade and stop asking them so many questions. So I did all kinds of research and changed my diet and got rid of the diarrhea and bleeding on my own. Took months but I did it. I go back to my doctor tomorrow. I’m both nervous and excited to tell her I haven’t had any of the medicine she recommended and yet got all my symptoms to stop. Excited for the future, and hopeful we can help more Crohnies on their journey as well

But she didn’t have me take any tests to know for sure. I am doing the specific carbohydrate diet which is supposed to put me in remission by 12 weeks. I’m on day 12. I will ask for a stool calprotectin test after one month; that test lets me know if the inflammation is getting better or worse. I’ll update you then!

I was extremely lucky to experience the outcome that I did and the point of the talk was to share my journey if nothing else to show that its possible to overcome a horrible illness like Crohn's. @eddiepcanales You have my support. I changed my diet a year ago, it was an adjustment but absolutely worth it. I am doing the best I have ever done (been sick since I was a small boy!). But everyone has different needs...
I cut out wheat, dairy, soy, corn, yeast, eggs, sugar... Live off the caveman diet, the standard american diet is NOT fit for humans. And if you have crohn's, the industrial diet is equal to death. Doctors need to help crohnies with that, not jam drugs down their throats!

ok but what of the people who dont have as severe symptoms, have not been diagnosed, yet think they have it? This is a good example of why Crohns is a wakeup call especially so for those with lesser symptoms, because remission is more possible at these stages. This video clearly states how difficult it was for him to achieve remission.
