***OVERHEATING VIDEO COMING TOMORROW! I want to make sure it's awesome for you guys. Ring that bell so you get notified when it launches. What do you guys think of the GoPro Hero 11?!
Love your videos, always come here for the gopro content. One thing, the wind reduction video link didn't pop up when you pointed to the corner; just an fyi
Yup that is what I was looking for lol. All of these additions, if it still over heats. I will just stick with my hero 9 and 10. My 9 doesn't really have a overheating issue versus my 10.
Thank you for the in-depth review David, as always! Glad you're as stoked about the new sensor as we are (FYI you can pull 8:7 into ReelSteady). Will keep an eye out for tomorrow's video...👀
I am done with GoPro just because of the heat and freze issues. My first GoPro was the Hero 7 Black than it just ceased to work with no reason. One day I try to turn it on and it was just dead. I bought another Hero 7 Black in second hand and then it just frezes after a few seconds of working. The salvation on that day is I had the Osmo Action with me. No nore GoPro for me if they still have that issues on the newer GoPro versions. Expensive cameras turned into junk after some use. Now I have two Hero 7 Black to sell for parts if someone want them or I will put them awy to recycle or film myself destroying them with a hammer or smashing them with my car passing over them. And I have the Karma Grip that actually works but another useless piece of technology that can't be used with other sport cameras to sell if someone want it. But comparing the image quality of the Osmo 3 with the GoPro 11 I think the GoPro 11 wins! but... I don't want the GoPro 11 because I can bet it still have heat and frezing issues like the previous GoPro junk!
Excited about the 10-bit!!! 🔥 I can already get really good results with my GoPro 10, people are surprised when they see my videos and realize it's a GoPro video so if i can get even better results with the 11, that's enough reason for me to get it! Thank you for the awesome review 👏
Just a note for those wondering about all the features of the HERO11 (and in most cases the 10 & 9), with Labs firmware your camera can do (and you can do to it) much more than it’s advertised on the box and what’s in the user manual. Most importantly, it’s actually very easy to use, especially with the QRControl mobile app (Android & iOS). With Labs firmware installed you not only get all the goodness of the latest general release firmware, you also get: 200 Mbps recording Motion detection recording Speed detection recording Audio decibel (noise) detection recording Global tone mapping On/Off Local tone mapping On/Off Global and Local tone mapping Max shutter angle control Exposure damping control Extra long (days) time lapse on one battery GPS time synchronization USB power trigger Burn in overlays Custom file naming 12GB file length chaptering GPS synced Sunrise/Sunset recording Time code support via LTC Auto generated Adobe style proxy files On screen histogram Burn in lap times Luma sweep Embed personal logo into video Control length of Hindsight timeout (instead of default 15 minutes) Increase digital gain of audio Clean monitoring without overlays Mute one or more channels of audio True 24.0 (Cinema) frame rate (instead of broadcast 23.976) Increased write frequency for higher precion file recoveries Alternative exposure controls ........ and more.
Hey David, I LOVE my Snap Mounts and thank you so much for introducing them to us. Since you have an " IN " with them, can you suggest they make on that fits a GoPro with a MediaMod...I (and I am sure others) would PAY for that! (yes, I know I can use it and my camera is just a bit offset, but it would be nice to have that nice, flat mount so it's easier to work the GoPro controls on the back screen.)
Hey David just to let you know, to quick switch using the buttons, you can hold the power button while hitting the shutter button. You don't need to quickly press one and then the other. PS if you do it in reverse it adds a highlight marker to your video but you probably already knew that.
As a diver who wears 7mm gloves in NorCal, the addition of a third button on the top would result in clicking the wrong button on my GoPro mounted on top of my dive mask. Which would ultimately mean a lot of missed footage.
Genuinely replied to your message on the Osmo action video as I got the notification for the upload of this video :D. So the Hero 11! I Absolutely love the 8x7 square, seems like they've learned a thing or two from Insta360 with the variation in content publishing requirements. The audio versus the Osmo action is miles apart, the Osmo 3 is just the next level! The preview issue is a big one, I hope they can resolve it with patents etc. As its the reason I use my Insta360 more often! I feel a little disappointed that they haven't changed the form factor to allow for a fully blown 1 inch sensor, however it was one of the biggest complaints for everyone I know because of batteries from older cameras not being able to be used and gather dust. However I feel like GoPro have been tactical because in keeping the Hero 11 form factor and the leaks of increased camera options coming from them. My speculation is that there is something newer on the horizon that does fill that void but is a new addition to the fleet instead of a change to the flagship camera.
FINALLY! So glad they let you change the aspect ratio! That’s why I use the Insta360 Go 2 is because of that aspect change freedom. So glad to see this with a GoPro
Scrolled thru much of the comments and didn't see any regarding time lapses. What format is the output? Does it have the option to take individual stills for later post processing? And can you zoom in time lapse mode? Other questions I have, does this have HDMI output? And finally, are you able to charge in camera while in use? Any info would be awesome and appreciated.
I watched the osmo action 3 and now this video. I really like some of the features I see on both! I will wait for you to compare before I make any decisions. Great videos! 👍
Hey David. Great video, thank you :) I wonder, how Gopro 11 do in comparison with iPhone 13 Pro Max... Does the footage is much better on Gopro? Which of those 2 cameras is best for travel/vloging videos?
Question as silly as it may sound is GoPro's only for professionals and amateurs alike? Or is it good for someone who has never used an action camera before? If I have never used one what would be the one to start learn with?
How is your video so crisp and clean ? I saw other review videos and they are not that sharp ! Great review man. And also, Is there a trick to upload videos to youtube to avoid so it doesn't degrade the quality of a go pro footage ?
I love Snap Mounts. Doing backpacking and back-country videos I have them on my chest pack, trekking poles, Ulanzi mini flex, windshield mounts. I have never had one come off of any of the applications, and I climb over rocks under trees etc. I will however be holding off on buying the 11 until we stop "Building back better" ;) Thanks again for the review, the new ops look interesting.
What skateboard were you using? @16:35 It seems to be motorized and can go up to 20 MPH. I might buy one for myself if you have an affiliate link for that.
Have you used the pro usb mic adapter? Mine won’t use the mic with it. Charges through it no issues but doesn’t detect the mic. Plug back into a 7 black and works without issue
Snap mounts - I know its not too narly, but do you reckon they would hold up for skydiving? Other people bumping into it and up to 350 km/h? would be cool if they would be suitable, looks amazing.
Amazing review I believe that is the most complete!!! At what resolution can you use the linear mode + Hotizon Lock? One more question, if you just want to take one action camera to a normal trip that is not -20C and you won't dive? Which one would you choose? Thanks again bro!
You know what would be very useful is a video on using the bluetooth connection with GoPro Quik. Especially with multiple GoPros. Trying to stay connected (lost connection) when on the move is always disappointing. Have to believe there is a better way!
David, are u going to do a "favorite settings" list for like sunny days, and low light, like you did a few gopro's ago? Those were very helpful. I also hope you do a rendering video where you show how to render your video before you upload them to RUclips. Thanks for all you do. Your videos are extremely helpful!!
Great video. I am thinking about to get the Hero 11 but still undecided between it and the new Action 3. How about HDR-Video? Can the Hero 11 film in HDR? And if so, is it any good?
Hey David, I was wondering if you can do a low light video test? I record my arena soccer games in so-so lighting, for years with the GoPro Hero 4 Black! I use the 1080p Linear 30fps setting. Seems to be the optimal setting for this older action camera in my location, even though the videos show lots of pixels. Hopefully the new larger sensor can draw more light into the videos.
12:53 more megapixels contributes to more heat too... they really need to focus on video and not photos or just make two different cameras. As Sony has shown 12mp is all you need for outstanding videos.
The 10-bit color really shines in the comparison with the Osmo Action 3 video. Did you see that shot with the sun in the background? Massive difference there between 8-bit and 10-bit!
Great video David, would like to see a comparison between the new Osmo action 3 and the new GoPro 11. Also you didn't mention the price on the GoPro 11. Congrat's on baby #3!!!!
Great video. One questions when they say "this is not sponsored" but they got the camera early and possibly free..... I kinda consider that sponsored?!?!?
Snapmounts is what can be considered sponsored) Early access to product by reviewers are common practice, from mobile phones to GPU/CPU, cars/motorcycles and so on. So reviews can be published right after product is released. You can see how much footage is here :)
@@Nerdelkin Yes, but if the reviewer says too much negative they probably won't get early access units next year. I saw three reviews today on Hero 11 where it was implied that they aren't sponsored and are very objective....$500 to endorse snapmounts is the same as a $500 camera a month before launch IMO....
Sponsorships usually means that the reviewer has certain things to say as the manufacturer requires them too. In that regard, they have to watch what they say because if they say something bad about said product will be a breech of contract and there will be negative repercussions. However, a video that is not sponsored usually means the reviewer can say whatever the hall they want as they are not being paid and the manufacturer has no say on the review
I wish those snap mounts had the magnets on the bottom. I hate how that thick plastic kind of blocks the touchscreen. I mean it doesn't really block it but makes it super uncomfortable. If it were on the bottom the back wouldn't be blocked at all.
Yep, works awesome! And if you want even MORE stabilization, you turn it off in-camera, then pull that footage into ReelSteady and the stabilization doesn’t even make sense, it’s so good. But you have both as options. In-camera or in post👍
I knew you would give a great review. But I need to know is it worth it to upgrade from the 9. I have the 9 and its a great camera but should I upgrade? How is the low light on the 11?
David, About Snap Mounts, is that gonna work while I’m using media mod as I need to connect my rode wireless microphone. If that’s gonna work, it’s cool as I like the magnetic mount. Thank you for the advice.
Hi David. Ur my goto guy when it comes to the GoPro. I have a 9 now but will probably upgrade to the 11. Have 1 question for ya; Is there any zoom feature on the 11? Thanks again for your great videos.
@@DavidManningvlog game changer!! i've got the 9 / 10 / max and i use them for kitesurfing... things im interested in upgrading for is higher resolution with horizon lock and potentially the smaller size of the mini since itll put less drag on my kite lines if i mount it there, though i have no experience using something without screens so i dont know how that will go.
Thanks for the review. any improvement on low light? or indoors/mixed light dark areas & bright windows? thats always been my problem, thinking maybe the larger sensor & 10 bit color may help.
I want to try the snap mounts. I use Ulanzi Quick release mounts now. Just cause price point they work well to move from place to place quickly. These just look more secure cause I have had one pop off my tripod before. I have the max lens mod but it makes funny halos in sun. So it would be great not to have to use that.
The Snap Mounts are so good guys! Especially now that they added the locking adapter to their lineup. That one makes me feel a whole lot better when I have a GoPro mounted outside the van for a cool shot🤣
I recently started filming with the GP11 and started a RUclips channel for my son and I. Kind of a side project/hobby. I've only uploaded a few videos so far and unfortunately, they look terrible. I'm editing them with VideoProc Vlogger and exporting them in 4K which is what I shoot in. After the video is rendered, and I upload to RUclips, the quality is completely lacking. My question is could it be the computer I'm using? It's a Gateway ($400 Walmart) laptop and completely underpowered. I understand that due to this, the rendering could take much longer than with an upgraded set up, however does it also impact the quality of the video? I don't care about speed, but the quality is important so I'm not sure what to do. Do I need to upgrade computer, and will that improve the quality of the video?
Great review David, as usual. I have a problem with gopro 10 in 4k 120fps hypersmooth boost. When I shoot and move my camera side to side at the same speed (slow speed), I then watch the results and the video does not move at the same speed. The movement is slow, then fast and slow again. Like if the movement is slower than reality and then the camera tries to compensate the slower movement. Could not be exactly like this, what I mean is that the movement is never equal and I move the camera at same speed. This does not happen in 4k 60fps boost or 4k 120fps standard. Gopro sent me another camera but happens the same. Do you already saw this? This happens on gopro 11 too? Never saw an explanation on this neither gopro knows what it is, which is strange for me. It's not about the computer because it's an high end.
If I turn on 10bit, I can't play it on my phone (has a big exclamation point), the audio is fine but black screen. But it can export on my capcut and it works fine. btw, I have a GalaxyA53
I put my 10 in the media mod and it wasn't that hot and while moving it still ended up overheating and had to switch back to my 8. I hope the 11 fixes it so I don't have to worry about it.
Damn David you are really selling me on those Snap mounts. I’d be so sold on the 11 for the colors & that horizon leveling if my 10 wasn’t so new already. I think I need to do use it enough to accidentally break it before I get a new one. 🤣 How does that new sensor perform in low light? Also does the max lens still only do 2.7K on the 11? I just wish they’d let us custom name the settings already.
If you've got a GoPro, Snap Mounts makes like a whole lot easier! And YES! Oh my goodness Caprica, that's something I've been wanting for so long! Since we have an app connected, they should let us be able to go in and type names for our own presets! Low light performance test coming in next week's comparison video to the Osmo Action 3👍 And same on the 2.7K max lens. I think it has something to do with the physics of the physical lens and how it's positioned in relation to the sensor.
For usability in the water, as you pointed out, the DJI Osmo mode button is great. I love the GoPro Hero 10, but switching modes is a pain. I pre ordered the DJI Osmo Action 3 because it can go deeper without a case, the mode button, a longer battery life, as you can't safely replace the batteries on a wet camera at the beach.
Looks like I need another camera. You covered everything, but I have 2 questions. 1. Is low light quality better with the bigger sensor? And, 2. Is the wonky automatic file naming system still wonky? Rather than naming files, 1, 2, 3, etc. it names them GH030198.MP4 then GH040198.MP4 making it hard to put clips in order.
Wind reduction in general on these cameras won't keep up at cycling speeds. Just the nature of cameras with tiny microphones. If you want to be able to talk while cycling and have that picked up, check out my video on GoPro Audio where I record through a lav👍
David, amazingly in-depth video as always - thank you for that! I'm assuming you have a video in the queue regarding whether or not I should upgrade from the Hero 9 Black?
Great review. I just got mine but just testing it I can feel the heating problem ( testing as in just scrolling it).. I hope I can rely with it cause I plan to use it as my main vlogging camera.😊
For stabilization... Should one opt for the built in features, or offload that to editing, like in Davinci Resolve (or similar software). I currently do not own any GoPro's (though the 11 is in shipping), and I'm used to do all stabilization inside Davinci for my other cameras.
I was wondering if I can use my Gopro mounts from my gopro 7 to the 10 or 11. I trust your opinion because I've been watching you and thanks to you I started with the 7 I thank you. I live on a limited income and I have a disability. I don't mind thumb screws.

In that regard, they have to watch what they say because if they say something bad about said product will be a breech of contract and there will be negative repercussions. However, a video that is not sponsored usually means the reviewer can say whatever the hall they want as they are not being paid and the manufacturer has no say on the review
What mini tripod are you using in this video? Cheers
Greetings from New Zealand 🤘
Another great review! Love my Snapmounts! and good thing you got that van with a third baby on the way.
Right Troy?! Gonna need all the space I can get! It's going to be a kid fest around here🤣
Can’t wait to see more tests especially on low light with the new sensor
I wish those snap mounts had the magnets on the bottom. I hate how that thick plastic kind of blocks the touchscreen. I mean it doesn't really block it but makes it super uncomfortable. If it were on the bottom the back wouldn't be blocked at all.
I'm not sure they could fit those four beefy magnets on the bottom🤷♂
The Horizon lock is the reason I am getting this camera
How is it outdoors in low light?
Killer Review as usual! Finally stopped being lazy and hit that subz button. Keep on keeping on.
I like how in your intro you say you'll discuss overheating but then don't.
Hey quick question! Just picked up the hero 11, is the max lens mod worth buying anymore or is there no point with the new features of the hero 11?
What’s the tripod you are using during the SnapMount ad David? That looks super cool. 🙌🏻
Can the regular blue battery still be use for the hero 11?
Hi! Does the stabilization work in 8x7 mode?
Yep, works awesome! And if you want even MORE stabilization, you turn it off in-camera, then pull that footage into ReelSteady and the stabilization doesn’t even make sense, it’s so good. But you have both as options. In-camera or in post👍
@@DavidManningvlog thank you!!!
I knew you would give a great review. But I need to know is it worth it to upgrade from the 9. I have the 9 and its a great camera but should I upgrade? How is the low light on the 11?
So, what to buy if you didn’t have any cameras?
X3, GoPro 11 or Osmo 3?
I still shoot with the 8. I know I want to upgrade, jump to 11 or save and go with 10???
Sorry if I missed it, but does the larger sensor mean better low light performance?
David, About Snap Mounts, is that gonna work while I’m using media mod as I need to connect my rode wireless microphone. If that’s gonna work, it’s cool as I like the magnetic mount. Thank you for the advice.
Hi David. Ur my goto guy when it comes to the GoPro. I have a 9 now but will probably upgrade to the 11. Have 1 question for ya; Is there any zoom feature on the 11?
Thanks again for your great videos.
Davis great video. does the snap mount work when having the media mount with the gopro? thanks.
They make an adapter specifically for the media mod👍
oh wow, is that quick settings trick with the buttons something that works with the gopro 10 or is this just for the new 11?
Works on GoPro 9/10/11👍
@@DavidManningvlog game changer!! i've got the 9 / 10 / max and i use them for kitesurfing... things im interested in upgrading for is higher resolution with horizon lock and potentially the smaller size of the mini since itll put less drag on my kite lines if i mount it there, though i have no experience using something without screens so i dont know how that will go.
Enjoy vloging gro pro my dream camera I hope someday I hope own
2160p HDR available? Like on iphone
Thanks David! Ordered the Hero 11 this morning. And I love Snapmounts!
Can you let us know what resolutions and frame rates are supported when the max lens mod is attached to the hero 11? Thanks!
I would like to know the same!
Really relieved to know they have not changed the form factor from 9 to 11.
Again another super review. Very well explained! Quick question, if you have to pick one, this or the X3? Now heading over to the Action 3 Review.
Does Hero 11 heat up similar to Hero 10?
If I turn on 10bit, I can't play it on my phone (has a big exclamation point), the audio is fine but black screen. But it can export on my capcut and it works fine. btw, I have a GalaxyA53
Do they have a stand up mount to record inside your car?
I nearly lost my Hero 10 using Snap Mounts. Was very lucky to retrieve it at the bottom of a river.
How does that new sensor perform in low light? Also does the max lens still only do 2.7K on the 11?
I just wish they’d let us custom name the settings already.
If you've got a GoPro, Snap Mounts makes like a whole lot easier!
And YES! Oh my goodness Caprica, that's something I've been wanting for so long! Since we have an app connected, they should let us be able to go in and type names for our own presets!
Low light performance test coming in next week's comparison video to the Osmo Action 3👍
And same on the 2.7K max lens. I think it has something to do with the physics of the physical lens and how it's positioned in relation to the sensor.
I really like that 360 is built right into the camera now!
I would like to see a low light comparison between the new DJI and the new GoPro. I do a lot of low light filming with Action cameras
DJI is better in low light
For usability in the water, as you pointed out, the DJI Osmo mode button is great. I love the GoPro Hero 10, but switching modes is a pain. I pre ordered the DJI Osmo Action 3 because it can go deeper without a case, the mode button, a longer battery life, as you can't safely replace the batteries on a wet camera at the beach.
I liked the video but think I made the right choice and stuck with my 9 and bought the new X3.
Looks like I need another camera. You covered everything, but I have 2 questions. 1. Is low light quality better with the bigger sensor? And, 2. Is the wonky automatic file naming system still wonky? Rather than naming files, 1, 2, 3, etc. it names them GH030198.MP4 then GH040198.MP4 making it hard to put clips in order.
how's wind reduction when camera is forward facing? i plan on using this for cycling and pretty much camera is not pointed on my face.
Wind reduction in general on these cameras won't keep up at cycling speeds. Just the nature of cameras with tiny microphones. If you want to be able to talk while cycling and have that picked up, check out my video on GoPro Audio where I record through a lav👍
@@DavidManningvlog thanks david! appreciate the reply!
Great video David! Question: can you plug the DJI mic receiver directly into the GoPro 11 as you can with the Action 3?
David, amazingly in-depth video as always - thank you for that!
I'm assuming you have a video in the queue regarding whether or not I should upgrade from the Hero 9 Black?
Great review. I just got mine but just testing it I can feel the heating problem ( testing as in just scrolling it).. I hope I can rely with it cause I plan to use it as my main vlogging camera.😊
Is VOLTA grip would be real water resistant then its a good one for quick switch when youre on action scene like in the water
