As a still photographer the dynamic range of the Action 4 thanks to it's larger sensor and lower pixel count clinches it for me. Pause the video at 0:45 and you'll see what I mean. The highlights are blown and the shadows lack details on the GoPro. Ask any photographer and they'll tell you that it is difficult if not impossible to recover blown highlights in an over-exposed image. As for colour rendition, it really is a personal choice. The warmer colour of the GP straight out the box will no doubt appeal to a lot of people but not for me. At the end of the day, you can correct colour rendition in post processing but you cannot increase dynamic range as the details are not there.

I had my GoPro Hero 11 Black Mini shut off three times after recording for 15 minutes each time and it was cloudy and only 80 degrees Fahrenheit in East Tennessee, where I live. Oh, LOL! The Hero 11 Black Mini has a heat sink on the back and it gets just as hot as the other GoPro cameras. I even tried leaving the side door off and it made no difference.
I don't understand how you can rely on magnets for an action mount camera. If you bump it on something while going fast or on/in water, bye bye camera?
there is some small tabs that locks it in, the magnet is really more for alignment. You need to press on the small tabs to disengage the camera from the mount. I would argue that the system is on par with gopros in terms of strength.
thanks yeah i went to a shop today and tried it out. felt very secure. "magnetic mount" is a bit misleading and was offputting. Think I'm gonna buy, that was my main concern @@JoeyMoieYW
Does the Action 4 have voice control like the Action 2? I have recently started using that in the Action 2 and find it pretty handy in some situations. I have been considering getting the 4 as a second action camera soon.
Dji Acion 4 has some basic features missing like timestamp to videos. Its a great camera but thats a joke. Users asking at DJI forums since Action 2 an option to sho date and time on the videos...Now its 2024, Action 4, and still dont get that small but one of the most important function....
the hero 12 has been pretty solid in my experience but I still think the action 4 wins in cold temps overall battery life and the white balance is much more accurate on the action 4
Great vid. I am a GP hero11 user, although, if I change, it'll more likely be to the Insta360 AcePro which seems to offer even more than the DJI. Perhaps a 3 way comparo? Also, very interested in why it is a 1/1.19 sensor is smaller than a 1/1.3, just seems counter intuitive if you are a math nerd... Do like the picture quality of the GP Hero 11, and notice that on many comparos, despite the smaller sensors, it picks out a little more detail...is that the 5.3 vs 4k?
Gopro is better, Oa4 it's like a phone software processing, you can see in this 0:28 and pause it, this 0:45 pause it Gopro has more Natural, 1:20 you can see the distort on the picture. I think Gopro is better. The disadvantge of Gopro is heating and not a touch screen on the fron view.
I agree completely. I was leaning towards DJI until I saw this video. The DJI's video just looks too processed - like phone footage! More detail in the GoPro's footage which I was quite surprised at tbh. This is very clear if you pause at 1:35 - with the GoPro you can see all the little crevices in the rock in the background, with the DJI it's just pixel mush (although the DJI wins here for better dynamic range so it's really hard too choose!)
One thing that I just came into realization with buying the dji action 4 , after using gopros for years, is the problem now is actually the field of view. The gopro's were set perfect for me on the linear horizon, and i didnt have to crop much. Now with the dji action 4 i have to crop way more even on the standard, and its causing a worse video image. Not sure if ill be able to fix that. The GoPro's have a more in your face look which brings things upfront more, where the DJI is more distant. Trying to figure out how to address that but yeah, something I didnt consider unfortunately
Hands down the Action 4! I am done with GoPro. It's the same thing over and over again. Good job, DJI.

I've never had that issue with the Action series, GoPro on the other hand, I can't say the same.

yeah I have stayed away from the mini, I had high hopes for it but glad I never got one
People are complaining about the Hero 11 Black running hot likewise. Have you had issues with it? My Hero 9 Black had the same problems.@@JakeSloan

I may grab that 11 or 12, I haven’t had a go pro since the 5 and the stabilization alone makes them a lot better now.
They are incredible but wait just a bit to see how the hero 12 shakes out

yes I would unless you hit some rocks, but you can also get cages from makers like small rig that will make it a solid mount
