Your channel has consistently been the best place for a professional user (as opposed to the YT careerists out there) take on the C70, and I really appreciate it. I noticed today another YT presence mimicking your C70 vids, which left a sour taste! Thanks for being an early champion for this system and revealing more of the intricacies of Canon menus, tips, etc.! Bravo.
Thanks for the explanation. I bought the C70 one month ago, and it is fantastic. Thanks for the info you give, that have guided me to get it. Big hug from Chile
Just updated my camera today! thanks Griffin for the update! Love how this camera continues to get updates, making it stronger every time. I too have owned the c70 since it came out two years ago, and now I have two. Very versatile little powerhouse!
Just found your channel brother, and I love what I'm seeing! Buying a c70 this week, and I can't wait to dive into your channel and dial in my c70! Beautiful images Griffin!
Was really stoked about this second big firmware update. It’s rare that after two years I still think there isn’t really a better camera out there for my kind of work in doc and branded content. It was a beautiful image to begin with, but the fact that they have improved it over that two years is crazy. I don’t own a C500ii or C300iii but I wish Canon would find a way of updating those as well to show commitment to the higher end. Feels quite odd that they have singled out the C70 only for improvements. That said, I’m so happy with the C70 on every job I have used it for.
@@wildpatagoniafilms16hat is a very personal choice, they are both great camera’s and both will give you a massive amount of fun and results. Personally, I would take the C70 any day. The deciding factor for me has nothing to do with specs or features, but the emotion of using the device. It is just so much fun to use, it feels good in the hand, it is versatile, it screams for you to pick it up when you are staring at it on the table 😎 And that for me is becoming more and more clear: the deciding factor for a camera for me is my emotion with it, does it inspire me, does it make me want to create and have fun with it?
It’s such a great camera! If you end up buying one, consider using the affiliate link in the description of the video as it helps support this channels free content
Every time I watch your video about the c70 after the video is finished I go to the local camera shop website and start to calculate should I get one hahah Canon chose well! Great job and please keep up this as much as you can, youtube needs more professionals sharing opinions.
You’re doing it wrong man, you should just buy the camera, get depressed about the financial problems you face afterwards and then use that depression as the emotional inspiration to shoot great films with. Then create such a great film from this emotion, that it will win you an award and when you receive the award, you have a great speech about your struggles getting there. This is how the pros do it 😅😂
Thanks for this video - I agree - part of my decision to upgrade was the significant firmware updates - I just got a C70 and I've been getting up to speed on it. I've always been a fan of wideDR (came from a C100 M2) but I've been getting over my hangup of Clog -LUTS have come a long way too! (Clog 1 in the C100 was meh). Nice having all these options
Hey Griffen, great video bro the C70 just gets better and better! Where can I download the new cmt and 709 luts to use in fcpx? I downloaded canon out folder of the website but don't see the luts im looking for.
Thanks Griffin! Your review is great! I love my C70 too. This firmware update makes the C70 a higher quality cinema camera. Hopefully an R5 C with a similar sensor will be released. I feel a sense of incongruity when I match it with C70. Of course the R5 C is great and I love it, but the sensor may be too different from the C70.
Great video, nice overview of some of the important new stuff. Since you're working with Canon, do you know the best way to suggest something for the next update? This one really messed up things for my workflow - the VU meter display. I regularly change what channels I am monitoring via a custom button, and now there is no visual cue to what channels I am hearing, this display doesn't change at all as I cycle through each setting, which is very frustrating & makes it almost unusable for me.
@@GriffinConway Pretty gooood, glad they fixed my hinge; day 1 I knew it was weird. I agree about the firmware updates.. It really makes me happy with my purchase, when I initially bought it I didn't think it would be enough; not having RAW, smaller codecs, eye AF, but they really made a solid camera. I was filming some corporate interviews last year with the R5 and C70 and the AF between the cameras was goofy, with a hardhat on and safety glasses the face would not be detected. Such a great camera now!
Good Day Brother, Just want to ask that.. I'm using canon 850d and I'm planning to buy my next camera for filmmaking.. which would be a good cam.. canon c70 or canon r5c..🙃
Thanks for another fantastic video on the C70! I just downloaded the firmware update - for some reason the option to switch my viewing LUT to Canon 709 is totally greyed out. Any idea why?
Unfortunately the Canon 709 baked profile looks better than the Log2 + Canon 709 LUT. You can see it in the footage at 7:18. The baked in version has more contrast and saturation. Specifically look at the skin tone and shirt. The LUT is good, but this should match 1 to 1. There’s no reason for the two to not match perfectly… This is the same with Wide DR. Baked in Wide DR probably looks similar to Log2 with the Canon 709 LUT. Definitely losing some contrast and saturation.
what do you use to remote trigger/record the c70? im primarily shooting with a gimbal and i just cannot find something usable to attach to the gimbal to trigger recording without touching the camera. i understand that the C70 has a LANC remote input, but aside from a partly functional sony camera replacement grip, thats very hard and expensive to come by, i have not found a plug and play solution for remote start/stop recording - am i overlooking something obivous? thanks alot, also great content, love your calm and positive charisma on video - no homo.
Thank you! I use a tilts nucleus m to remote trigger with the c200 lanc cable. You could use that along with the nucleus hand grip and mount the hand grip on the right or left side of your gimbal to start/atop
Digging through the newest updated LUT folder Canon provided on 2/21/23, I can't find a CMT 709 LUT to use in post. Am I overlooking it? The CMT 709 LUT does looks a bit nicer in camera vs the standard BT.709, it favors more details in highlights over shadows. But why look at this image on camera if I can't get it back in post with a Clog 2 > CMT 709 LUT?
@@GriffinConway Found it, but something you may can note in your description is that that specific CMT 709 LUT download/driver won't appear if your operating system is selected to Mac OS 13 Ventura, but it does appear on later Mac OS download lists.
Okay since this is Canon Sponsored: Why the F has the C500II/300III has not gotten any of these amazing updates? (Sincere question as a owner operator of C500II and C70) Why have the C500II/300III not gotten an update to the way the touch screen works just like on the C70? Where are low bitrate Intra recording modes on the C500II/300III? Why is canon intentionally(at this point I gotta assume it’s intentional) holding back on features for their way more expensive cameras? Should it not be the other around and the more expensive cameras should get new features FIRST and then the “Lower”-end cameras follow? I honestly feel kinda f-ed over by Canon. I love my C500 - but it’s just firmware! “Copy paste” it (I know it's a little bit more complicated) over the the bigger cameras, please!
I have the c70 and updated the firmware but my option to switch bitrates on intra is greyed out and set at 600. So odd. Haven't seen a fix anywhere for this.
Nevermind, found the solution. You can only select a different bitrate in 29.97 or 23.98. 29.97 gives you an option of 410mbps or 300mbps. 23.98 gives you 410mbps and 240mbps 59.94 is locked in 600mbps
I'm torn between FX3 and C70. How is AF in C70 compared to FX3? Is it much worse or 10% worse? I hate focus breathing on R6 or R5 even in good light conditions and RF lens, and I've heard that C70 is even worse then that. I've been using Canon for 4 years, but I'm tired of overcoming Canon limitations and I just want gear that doesn't make me think about it. Canon image structure is pleasing for my eye but Sony footage looks like you push it futher without fake look
