clear scan is one of the best key features of all canon cameras... i produced a shoot recently where I had Sony FX3, Blackmagic6KPros and my Canon R5C and my one was the only one with a decent clear scan feature to avoid horrible banding/flickering from TVs/projectors... well worth it.
They need to add the auto-scan feature the R3 has. Set your camera on a tripod facing the bad lighting hit the button and it'll scan the image and select a shutter that eliminates it automatically.
@@glenelliott2620 that sounds good, sometimes dialing by hand may be necessary though as i ve been to events with many different screen and projections in close proximity and overlapping..

Great content. Struggling with an issue. Trying to record audio with the line input. I have a mini xlr adapter from the camera into a full size xlr that then goes into a mixing desk (press conference type scenario) the sound quality on line is awful really quiet even on max volume and tinny sound. And of course when I switch to mic level it’s completely blown out too loud and inaudible. What am I doing wrong? If anyone can go through the settings or provide some insight they would be super appreciated. Thanks!
Do you know why the digital teleconverter option isn't showing up after updating to the new firmware? I did get the other upgrades, just not the digital-tele showing up for some reason. Thanks.
Looking forward to more about C70. One question, the C70 has been reported to have a soft focus, especially comparing to the R5C. Is it any better after all the updates?
Making the WFM transparent is a simple but great addition! Note: With the previous firmware you can use the joystick to select which person you want to autofocus on.
That is extremely exciting. I will definitely try this next week in the studio. What I am wondering now is since you showed how it was able to focus on the eye of George W. Bush from such a tiny frame, does that mean it now has improved on auto focus from long distances?
Eric, thank you for all the C70 content. I went through the ringer these last few years with Canon: • Had a pair of C70s on launch day- but struggled with the poor autofocus, odd ergonomics of tracking AF, and build quality. Ended up selling them for R5's. • R5's end up having overheating issues (this is well before the firmware update that miraculously "fixed" it), so I sold them for R5Cs. • The R5Cs fixed the overheating but inherited a battery/voltage issue which only gave 35 minutes on an LPE6NH in 4k 60. Ended up running them for a year tethered to nano v-mounts. :( • Finally sold the R5Cs for R3s. Been pretty happy with R3s overall but CLOG3 is more difficult to work with. You're supposed to expose to the right in CLOG3, however if there's any situations where you have to open the shadows a bit it is so soooo noisy. ...which led me to start researching the C70 again. Most of the videos I binged were yours (thank you!). With the 7, yes SEVEN, firmware updates since launch Canon has illustrated a commitment to this camera. In fact I've never seen a camera so improved since launch. You were instrumental in bringing me back. lol Thank you. Good luck with the course - I may purchase just to support you.

Huge congrats on launching your C70 course Eric! I just purchased it - super happy to support your work! Do you plan on updating this course over time, for example with info related to new firmware updates like these? I just bought my C70 recently and although it's 99% a wonderful beautiful thing how much the camera has actually improved since its release, the only downside of that is that most of the content about the camera - which is almost all extremely positive except people ranting about the original autofocus and some things like no RAW, etc. - is outdated at this point. I love how you've continued taking us along your journey of learning all about the camera, it's super relatable and makes my own journey into cinema cameras a lot more enjoyable :) Keep up it, man!

Hey I appreciate you! I just got the camera and it sounds like I purchased it at the right time! It’s like getting DLC for one of your favorite video games lol
Awesome, thanks for clear and informative video! The waveform has always been too small, great update! The AF improvements are also great, when someone is turning their head etc. My personal taste also is I rather flick a dial than pointing on the screen to set focus on a particular person, the screen's pretty small.
Will definitely be checking out your course soon. Always enjoy your C70 videos. Especially all of the tests that you’ve done. Also thank you for your time always giving a run down of any new camera firmware updates. 🤙🏽
Great video! Hopefully the course is fruitful for you. I would previously use the joystick to switch between subjects with multiple faces in frame and still do that so I don't have to map a dial.
A year ago I got rid of all my canon gear, I had an R5, R5C, R6, and a bunch of RF lenses, HOWEVER, the one camera I kept was the C70, and I am so glad I did. Really crazy how many firmware updates this camera has had. I guess some brands have always done it, but I have to wonder if it could also be because of all the covid driven chip shortages and delays etc. Manufacturers seem to be trying to sustain existing cameras for longer, and find new buyers even two years after release date. I'm not complaining though I think it is a lot healthier than just leaving a camera behind and bringing out a new model. I liked the C70 right from launch, but I like it even more now!
Or probably they just don't have time to finish all the software they think they can put in this camera before launch haha. Anyway, it's nice to see they do this.
I was wondering if there's a new model coming, but I guess it's not in the near future. It's amazing how they keep with this substancial updates!... At the start, I read that the C70 had some problems with the tiltscreen breaking easily. Anyone knows if they were adressed?
@@zeluisbelo It's my understanding that newer C70s already have the monitor hinge improved. I have a newer one and it seems fine. (note - I don't read rumor sites, so maybe all of this is 100% off or obvious) Canon doesn't want to compete with itself and undercut their own products so any improvement can't make another product redundant; Canon's challenge is making a C70 mkii that doesn't hurt the R5C sales. So there's a few possible "incremental" improvements for a theoretical mark 2 that stand out: Definitely: - CFExpress to replace the SD cards (that's the media of choice for new cameras, SD seems to be at a dead end) - Wireless (which is a pretty glaring omission in the C70) Maybe: - SDI (might not be the market target for the C70) - 32-bit float audio recording, since audio is definitely a selling point for the C70. That being said, I don't think any camera has offered that yet, but it is starting to make its way to cheaper audio recording devices I'm sure some have the hope of full-frame, especially given the RF mount (and the fact they were literally giving away the 0.71x adaptor recently), but given the C70's lineage of sensor from the C300 mkiii either they'd have to depart from that lineage and stick the R5C sensor in there or we'd likely see a C300 successor that is full-frame first, because Canon isn't going to offer it in the cheaper model first and the C700 FF is way too expensive for a C70 successor right now. So the R5C is the full-frame Canon video camera that's affordable for now by my guess. Same goes for 6k - can't do it without losing the connection to the C300's sensor, so I'd expect anything like that to show up in the C300 first. Only other wild-card that I could see would them leaning towards a C70 box camera with the two "definitely" ones above to try and offer a cheaper RED Komodo alternative. Was wondering if the C70 price drops were in anticipation of the rumors of the RED drop, though that turned out to be in the other direction from the Komodo 6K

I'm mostly using Sigma EF primes with the focal reducer. Occasionally when I do more run and gun stuff I use the Sigma 24-70. Then with my gimbal I often use the RF 16mm (24mm equivalent with the crop factor) because it's so light.
