@@CVPTV I want to purchase a Canon for my new Production company for commercials, Documentaries and Music plus short films. Is the C300 Mark iii better or a C70 for these purposes?
I like the fact that we are in an era where a firmware update can basically give you a new camera. BM, Canon, Sony; I really appreciate what’s happening here.
Hey Jake, thanks for the info on the update! Eye AF is so great to see on the C70 and makes sense since it's in the R5C. So glad that Canon is updating cameras that are two years old!
I wish they supported the c500 mk2 as much, I have both, and love the love for the c70, but I just don't understand them ignoring their flagship cameras.
This! So sad to see how much support it gets (C70) and not much for the C500MK2 just needs a 120 frame in 4k. They did the same with the C500MK 1 I had it and it has 2k 120fps in the menu and it was never utilised.
I preordered the c500 mk2... sold it a few months ago partially due to this reason. I'm happy with my S1H for now... would be nice to add a compact 4K 120 full frame RF or L mount camera to my toolkit within the next year - bonus points if it has up to 10 stops of built in ND & IBIS.
Nice take on this. I really appreciate your looking at the improvements, and also the limitations of the firmware (and on Canon's limiting third-party RF lenses...grrr). This is, imo, good marketing for CVP: It makes it look like you have your customers' back. Good job and thanks.
Wow. In all honesty I have been very happy with the C70 even before all these updates. Raw has been a luxury I rarely need as a doc shooter, but the fact that they have made the ALL-I more usable if you're switching between 25/50p during a shoot is incredible. Out of all of this, the thing that will make the most difference to me is being able to have all 4 audio channels displayed, as I am often running a shotgun in Ch1, a lower gain safety track of the shotgun in Ch2, and a dual lav reciever into Ch3 and Ch4. The fact that I can now have all levels on screen at a glance will help me a lot. I've had a C70 for two years (cheers CVP) and clocked a decent number of hours, but if it vanished and I had to buy a brand new camera today I would find it hard to choose anything else. I hope to get another two years work out of it at least.
Same here. The ability to monitor 4 audio channels will be awesome. I often use 1-2 lav mics and one shotgun that I too send it to a 2nd channel for safety. This was my only real gripe with this camera (except the flimsy lcd hinge) and now it has been addressed. Really happy!
Loving these C70 updates from Canon, but couldn't agree more the C300iii needs some love. I have both as an A and B cam and love them, but the RAW implementation on the C70 should absolutely be brought to the C300iii (and eye AF) as they're supposed to work together seamlessly. As it stands we're working with different RAW codecs between the two. That and for what we've paid for the C300iii it's a bit of a kick in the teeth.
A full frame version of this DGO sensor could be the key to a C700 mark 2. With the form factor of the c500 II, and if they can get sub 8ms rolling shutter in full frame, Canon might achieve what they tried to do with the original c700: be an actual competitor to the Venice/Alexa/Monstro. Also, keep the RF mount, EF is too limiting and baffling for cameras in the price range of the c300 iii and c500 ii. What Sony did with the Venice and E mount is genius.
Fantastic updates to the C70 by Canon. They definitely saved me in their ecosystem with this one. I always felt the C70 could be just as good as the C300mkii hardware and software wise. Now at least software wise it nearly is.
Nice one guys. As an R5 and R5C user, I'm totally jealous of C70 owners. If Canon bring out a FF (8 or 6k) version of this cam for around the 10k price mark, it'll be a serious contender.
Great video! C70 just keeps on giving, It's my go-to Gimbal and B cam to the c500mk2. Like you said the C500MK2 needs an update, It needs a 12bit Nonraw 444 like the C300MK2 had in 2k. It also needs a raw LT codec, the raw is too heavy. I think the C500MK2 currently is so massively overpriced for what you get compared to newer cameras coming forward. Great work on the C70, Just need that 35mm 1.2 RF lens to come out now.
Great C70 update and a great video. For Canon - now it is time to show some love to the Canon c500 mk2 and Canon c300 mk3. First and foremost implementation of a lighter version of LT RAW codec. The c500 mk2 needs also the option of shooting 120fps in 4k mode while taking advantage of the the full frame sensor. Also having the AF track option would be most welcome on both the c300 mk3 and the c500 mk2.
Its great to see updates and support still after nearly 2 years - I purchased 2 of these cams when they came out - and have since added a R5c to the duo - whilst I like the R5c - I still use the C70's as my A and B cams as they have an incredible organic feel to the image - the R5c match's almost perfectly with Canon lenses RF and EF L series lenses - you pay for what you get and in the long run I'm very satisfied with the product - whilst I have used the Sony FX9, FX6 and FX3 which are also excellent cams I will stick with Canon - there menu system is pretty much the same on most of there modern cameras.
I've had my eye on the C70 since it was released. However, as you mentioned, the RF lens mount line up is very expensive compared to other mounts like Sony. I really like Canon colors straight out of camera. But, until 3rd party lenses become a real choice, I will most likely stick with Sony. Even though Sony colors make me look a little red.
had my C70 for almost 2 years and never once used an RF lens on it. RF is great just because it's adaptable. EF glass was good yesterday. It's still good today
As a C300Mk3 owner I feel a bit neglected 😅 C70 got the raw update, RF Mount, AF update and costs half the price. Still love the c300 but feels overpriced in comparison to the c70 now
Hi CVP, I love the work that you are doing. There was an incident in San Francisco, where a photographer while working on a wedding was beaten by two-armed gunmen and pistol-whipped. This photographer never let go of his camera gear and unfortunately, he took a beating. Two photography channels offered up a challenge for the Community with Channels to speak up on the safety and awareness of photographers and videographers alike. You are such a channel. The two channels that are talking about this and offering this challenge are Vahagraphy and 247 Media Group. If you get time out of your busy schedule, check this out starting with Vahagraphy, who brought this out to the community on his channel and please make some noise about this on your channel as well as it threatens our art and it is often forgotten!!!
I'm still using my original Canon C500 MKI, hope Canon modernizes it with firmware releases. Internal 4K, and compressed 4K output would be nice to have. 4K RAW is great but not for all situations.
I feel the C300 MK3 only makes sense for anyone working in higher end productions where the form factor/outputs are just essential. Seems like you'd just spring for a Venice/ARRI, or RED if you needed those features though.
Thanks for the update! As allways very informative and well made. I'm hyped about the FaceAF in 120p and the 50/60p All-I Option. The Eyetracking seems to be more of a gimmick since the c70 allways put the manual focus assist box on the eyes and therfor "knew" where the eye was - I'm guessing also in full AF mode. It just did't put a box around it 🙂 I'd love to see a breathing compensation like in the r6mkII has - as a feature in a next firmwareupdate. Also I'm desperatly waiting for a Cine-Style RF lens (maybe something like the CN-E 18-80 just for FF and RF or a more compact and cheaper RF Version of the Flex Zooms).
The new units I've seen do seem a bit better, but I would still be as careful as I could with i. I know Canon support has been very good with people who have had issues. Jake
This camera was beat with the Cripple Hammer from the beginning. They just removed some of the handicaps. I'd rather buy from companies who do their best to deliver their best upfront, no excuses, no games, no restricting third party lenses, no cripple hammer.
Wow, this is great news! Canon really brought the camera a long way with all the updates. I'm actually going to pick up my C70 this weekend (as an addition to my R5), mainly for the easy RAW workflow. So this is another very welcomed improvement. Thank you for the update on the new firmware. But I agree that the RF lens lineup needs more options. I have the 15-35mm and the 50mm 1.2 as my main video lenses, but would really appreciate some native ultra wide options and a fast 24mm equiv. I would be fine with smaller RF-S lenses if they bring IS to the table.
I used to love this idea of getting new firmware updates and getting new functionality in the camera. But now I kind of think this is all just sitting on a roadmap to keep ageing technology slightly more relevant and allow it to remain a little more competitive with newer products. Ever since the whole "Oh, yeah we fixed that crippled overheating R5 that we swore was a hardware limitation that had no fix. Just so happens we did that after the release of a few important cinema cameras that would have had their market affected by such a powerful R5." I'm not sure this business practise should be celebrated or derided.
Thank you for the infos. But what about the low-light AF performance? I guess it is still not good due to the fact that there is no phase detecion included right?
Thank You very much for this video. I totally agree with Your list of things to add or change to this camera. It is also one of my favorite cameras because I really love the image from it. The things I would love to add or change are a 4:3 sensor for shooting anamorphic and an electronic variable ND filter.
The most interesting nugget to me, which they kind of just flew over very briefly was the new XC control feature. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the C70 doesn't have a Wi-Fi radio onboard. I'd love to control C70 with an app over its own network like pretty much every other camera can do these days...how does this new implementation work exactly?
You need to use USB wifi dongle, for example Archer T9UH conected to the C70 via USB. All tested dongles are visible on Canon support website under FAQ section. Basicaly XC protocol is for Canon PTZ cameras so you can use RC-IP100 control panel and control 100 cameras via ethernet. However it is quite expensive solution for pro studio purpose. You can also use web browser and control C70 via tablet/PC/ smartphone...
god how useful this video is!!! thanks man, i watched whole video and i found that I knew about camera. please make more useful contents like this about alphabetic expressions of photography and Video camera. thanks a lot, subscribed
I have always loved my c70, and the updates are pure happiness, thank you for your channel... what are your favorite lenses with this camera? personally I like to use the speedbooster with prime lenses, like the good old mid-range canon 50mm at f1.4 which drops to f1.0 and a 20mm at f2.8 which drops to f2, I also have a 24-105L f4 and the first generation of 70-200L f4 on the optical side it's fine but on the AF side and focusing noise it takes a lot, otherwise I also have a sigma art 18-35mm f1.8, and vintage lenses, but I'm still looking for which lens to buy for RUN n GUN use in RF which RF lens do you recommend? 24-70L, 28-70L, 70-200 f4, 24-105 f4???
Amazing news for AF ! But you're saying that you did not see a reel difference ? The AF was also struggling when people turns around in front of the camera, or with people wearing hats or cap, or with darker skins. Did you see a noticeable improvement in those particular cases ? Thanks !
Great video and I'm so excited that Canon is really keeping up amazing support for the C70! It's such a workhorse of a camera, I absolutely love it! I think if Canon can add SSD recording via the USB-C port, then there would be no problem allowing for 4k120 Raw LT. I don't think it would be possible otherwise via SD card recording, and at this point it would be unfair to all current C70 owners if they released a Mark II version that has a CF Express slot. SSD recording is a good compromise there. Also agree 100% regarding the RF mount patent nonsense. We need some native and affordable RF mount options from Sigma and Tamron!!! We shouldn't have to pay $2k+ for quality 50 and 85mm primes with autofocus. Come on Canon!!
@@TXTechphoto I wonder if it would be manageable on a single SD card if the bit depth was dropped down to 8 or 10 bit. For example, I tested out 4k CDNG raw on the Sigma FP at 8 and 12 bit, and only doing extreme grades could I really tell that much of a difference between each one. All the post editing raw goodness was still offered in the 8 bit files.
Hi Jake, I did not understand - is there a difference in face tracking or not? You did the side by side comparison. You say that there is no difference but then on 4:58 you say that there is a difference. Can you please clarify what you found. BTW I absolutely love your videos - by far my favourite content on RUclips! Short and always informative. Thank you for the hard work you put into these videos.
Hey Peter, thanks for watching and for the kind words. I would say it's improved marginally in the regular mode and of course, Eye AF is handy. At 4:58 what I am referring to is the difference between a manually focused 120p clip and autofocus 120p clip, where the af is going to perform better than what most run and gun shooters are going to be able to do with manual focus in 120p on a moving subject. Any other questions, let me know. Thanks, Jake
Interested in your feedback on the best lens selection for the C70 / I do 2 different tasks - Real Estate & Weddings ? RF or EF with the 0.71x adapter ? - any help appreciated - cheers
Excellent. I like the SONY at the 1:25 mark while talking about Canon... all good. Just kidding. The better AF in slow modes will be a nice addition for sure.
On this note: Sony has not managed to update flagship cameras A1 and AS73 with relevant new capabilities. Neither with new AF capabilities (Animals, Objects) nor with focus breathing compensation. Check Philip Bloom’s latest post on this firmware desaster. I am looking at you, Canon!
Nice. I was torn between FX6/BMPCC6k pro and this. Went with the fx6 as other shooter will be using it and canon/BM are niche when it comes to what operators are generally trained on.
It's time Canon stops crippling they Cinema line by not updating properly. Their new cameras habe better af but they do not update their top of the line cinema cameras. It's ridiculous! And as a c500II and c70 owner I am always considering switching to Sony - then I see the colors and I am just pissed that Canon does not take the same approach to updates that Sony does.
@@avx111 its been times that having the r5c helped. If someone asks for a photo and cant wait too long. I do events often. I use the R5C for night and dark events and the c70 for day or lit events that need videography. I use the R3 for jobs that need one person to do both which i try to talk clients out of but if the money is right for that I provide that.
why people care so much about the lenses? I bet this is just a thing made up from youtubers. I have never heard of a professional talking about the new mount lenses issue. You van use the ef with adaptors, what’s the big deal? there is almost 0 difference in performance.
I know it's not everybody's style, priority or cup of tea entirely but do you see a chance of Canon throwing the C70 internals into a box form factor at any rate? Having something like the LUMIX box line with the DGO sensor, RF-mount, good (!) AF and SDI / network capabilities would be a game changer for multicam setups as well!
Canon is all in on their c300 form factor, so unless market trends force them to change, it's probably more likely to see a c300 style body with RF mount. Though that is also not likely due to lack of lenses.
Ah interesting, you guys sent me down the google rabbithole and I found out I basically described the rumored EOS C5 plus the networking capability. It's a good thing there is basically no bad camera out right now, just models for different use cases - excited to see what's next!
Bought a C70 last year.. zero regrets. Fantastic camera. Really impressed the support that Canon keeps releasing via firmware.
totally !!!
Glad I stuck it out with this camera! It keeps getting better!
It really is awesome how much support Canon have pumped into it, if only the hinge was better at release ;) Thanks for watching Dave, Jake

Except sony does not a give a fuck about existing customers. They would rather release a new camera with added Software features.
As a C70 owner Canon really need to accelerate RF lens development, especially a wide prime or two.
Same. Would like to see L versions of 24mm and 35mm. Also, some new radical designs would be nice: a L version of 24-200 f/4 or f5.6 would be nice.
@@jessejayphotography I think we're going to see a lot of these starting to happen with EF coming to an end. It's only a matter of time.

well this was EASY to give it a LIKE... now the waiting for December starts :) Thank you!
I would like to see you use the tentecle sync track E and the tentecle sync mk2 with this c70. An in depth explanation.
god how useful this video is!!! thanks man, i watched whole video and i found that I knew about camera. please make more useful contents like this about alphabetic expressions of photography and Video camera. thanks a lot, subscribed
Totally agree that the RF needs to be opened to third party design. It's arrogance from Canon tbh.
Amazing news for AF ! But you're saying that you did not see a reel difference ?
The AF was also struggling when people turns around in front of the camera, or with people wearing hats or cap, or with darker skins. Did you see a noticeable improvement in those particular cases ?
Thanks !
I still think Canon shouldve let ppl use the EVF (EVF DC2) from the M6 Mk2
This man has the best job in the world.
Hi! Is it still relevant to get c70 in 2023, or it's gonna be outdated?
Is all that banding on the red background from RUclips compression or from the camera itself? Either way the image still looks awesome, just wondering
Would LOVE to see a Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 Art lens for RF mount!
I'm going to keep repeating this wish until it comes true
I would love to see that too! I really want to see a mirrorless RF take on the 18-35/50-100!! Jake
Well it could be possible to record 4k120 raw to sd card if it recorded half the frames to each card, like bm use to do on their cams before braw.
@@CVPTV Thanks Jake. So does the Eye AF improve overall face AF? Is it noticeably better or would you rather say marginally better?
Hi thanks for the video, could you please tell me what adapter you used to get the 2 cameras side by side on one tripod at 5.37sec. Thank you
the slomo autofocus has it been improved?
Interested in your feedback on the best lens selection for the C70 / I do 2 different tasks - Real Estate & Weddings ?
RF or EF with the 0.71x adapter ? - any help appreciated - cheers
I got excited hoping for more high frame rate raw recording options. Oh well.
Can an SD card handle the rate?
Would be great to get some Canon RF mount Cine Prime Lenses?
Great timing! Just bought one last night
you just bought a C70?
@@chuckshacochis9556 yep! Really stoked to work with it again
Cool man! Can’t wait to see what you do with it now that it has all of the new updates! Love ur work!

They should make the A7SIII better
But Sony thinks we’re chumps for buying right before the FX3 came out
GEEZ!! What beautiful images you have there, what lens are you using on that Canon C70?
I don't see the need for third party lenses. Between their autofocus and cine lenses, I see no problem. The price doesn't matter.
Excellent. I like the SONY at the 1:25 mark while talking about Canon... all good. Just kidding. The better AF in slow modes will be a nice addition for sure.
Hi Jake, Do you know if there is some FW update coming to R5C? Thanks
Canon is really showing this camera a lot of love. Maybe nothing is coming anytime soon?
I have a C200. IF Canon makes a mkii for it, It needs to be as good or better than the C70 with these updates.
How do you know someone is a vegan? Oh, I meant c200 user...
Interesting to hear about the focus performance on the R6 mk 2. Do you think there’s ever a chance it will come to the R5C?
I hope so
Eye AF! Been asking for this. :)
@OfficialCVP Hi, what have I won? 🤗
@OfficialCVP Hi, can't work out how to send a direct message on your handle so only able to reply here.
only they forget the c200 for updates since 3 years
good job, man!
a7sIII or fx3
What breed of dog is that? So cute
His name is Harley and he's a Poodl. I totally agree he is so cute!! haha Jake
Dear sony, this is how you support your cameras.
Did they release the firmware already?
No should be available in December hopefully! Jake
The question being asked is: why don't you sell Nikon?
And why don't you have any video about Nikon from the last few years?
C70 has a dead pixel in the middle and how do I remap that pixel?
Try an APR, on page 42 - th.canon/en/support/0304013401?model=4507C
If that doesn’t work, It might be worth rma’ing your camera. Jake
Wish they fix the screen.
Man I just want a rx100 with 100usd internal 4k 60p 😂
damn. That's a HUUUUGE camera! Wake me when the R5 Mark II comes out with no overheat...
Meanwhile Sony ignores its customers
GIMME THE C90!!! or C200mkii Dammit
Magically gets Ibis!?
Am i the only one who thinks the image of the c70 is really not as sharp as you could expect from a 4k camera in this price range?
every day I feel dumber for getting a R5C
you are my friend, you are
Lol !! I got both ! I’m not getting rid of my c70 anytime soon
if you do photography its fine. if not then yes......
unexpectedly I'm currently doing mostly photography, but I still feel cheated
No, the rumor was that a c200 box was coming called a c50. I think they said it was scrapped because of the pandemic shortages and stuff
It would be a shame if they made it worse instead of better.
Canon guy with arri jacket hhh
Who's a Canon guy?
@@CVPTV sorry for that. canon guy = guy with c70,not canon stuff.just for jokeing
Jesus loves you bro.
