I also drive a ‘22 VW ID.4 Pro S RWD and had an update experience identical to what you described in your video. That included the intermittent availability of the update and the subsequent update installation yesterday. I had received an email with update instructions, approximately one week prior, from VW informing me that an update was expected to be ready shortly. When away from home I would see an update ready drop down box when parking; however, until yesterday, I could not get the car to replicate same when parked in my garage. Once installed I received a message on the vehicle information screen that the update had been successfully completed. I have not received any other confirmation either via text, email or through the App. In addition, at no time did my VW App ever indicate that an update was available. I’m glad I was able to view your video before I initiated the install. It gave me a sense of reassurance. I love the car and the whole EV experience but concur that VW needs to address the software issues. Thanks and All the Best, Art. Oceanside, CA.
If the update knows you are looking for it it will hide. Only go looking for it in the goodbye screen when you are ready to press it because on a second attempt it will have gone. You only need to leave the car an hour so for it to come back. Usual deceiptful response that we get from pretty much all call centres these days to 'wait a week and come back' just to get rid of you for a bit.
Not in the mail, but as of 9/4, my VW app shows that my car is subject to a door handle recall with an action code of 57J9. It also says that the repair isn’t available yet.
I have a '22 AWD Pro S, and have not received any over the air updates at all yet. I am quite disappointed in VW at this moment. I'm also disappointed that the original Bridgestone tires didn't last more that 18k miles. I do like driving the car, and have taken a number of long trips (1600+ miles), but the software is horrible. We also have a Tesla Model Y for comparison.
I agree about the software; definitely frustrating. You may want to contact your dealership- and also call VW- to see about the OTA updates. I know they roll out the OTA's in batches according to VIN.
Just a few days after this post, I got my first over the air notification. Turned out to be 3.2.13. It was similar to what you described. No notifications. The ui does seem to work a bit better. Not what I would consider good yet though.
Back in ‘22 I came very close to choosing the ID4 over Tesla… glad I didn’t today. Now at 125,000km and going strong. I hope VW gets their act together soon.
I think this was a big part of the reason for partnering with Rivian. They know software is a weakness. Have you driven any other ev's by chance? Would be interested in any videos on that if so. I enjoy when people with a lot of experience with a particular ev compare and contrast with others. It helps with purchasing decisions and I think many ev buyers have either owned or test driven an ID4 at this point, so it's a nice reference point.
Agreed! Hopefully that partnership will be fruitful. I own an ID4, and I’ve driven Ioniq 5 and Tesla. If I had more time to devote to videos (this is not my day job), I’d broaden my offerings, but hopefully this content is helpful anyways. Appreciate your comment, and thanks for watching!
I cannot wait to get rid of my ID4 2022 next year (2025). The software is absolutely atrocious and VW promises of consistent software updates has been a lie. So much so, VW have abandoned all but 2024+ owners. Any ID4 up to 2024 will not be supported by the latest firmware 4.0 according to VW (will try to find the source for this information). Ive had so many faults including both screens going blank whilst I was driving on the motorway at 70mph amongst other issues. Will get either a BMW i4 or Rivian. Im absolutely done with VW.
The software disappoints me too, as does the lack of updates as promised. Customer service has been very helpful for handling technical issues- but it’s sad that it would come to that for something as simple as an OTA update. Sorry to hear about experience and I hope you have better luck with another make. I think they announced the 4.0 software at the ID7 unveiling, which is when they mentioned that model years older than 2024 won’t be supported by it. Apparently, they’ll still send out updates to software 3.0 users… we’ll see if that happens.
The first OTA update didn’t appear to fix anything noticeable to me. Others have noticed improvement to lane assistance, but that hasn’t been my experience. Won’t know if this update did anything noticeable for a little while. Appreciate the comment!

@@artspaff Thank you for sharing your experience, and I glad my video provided some reassurance!
Update: I received an email from VW of America today confirming my software update to 3.2.13.

Question: did you get a stop sale notice in the mail by vw telling you to bring your car in for a recall?

@@1derecksGlad to hear you got it at least. My UI seems a bit snappier as well, though as you say, not worthy of too much celebration.

Tesla has superior software, no doubt. Glad it’s worked out for you. I’m hoping the Rivian partnership is fruitful for VW.

You didn’t tell us if the update fixed anything important. Are you still disappointed or satisfied?

@@goneelectric It sounds like the first update was to improve ability to receive future updates.
That’s true, and I hope that actually happens soon.
Mine failed and says contact your service ficility
If you call VW they might be able to send the OTA update again so you can try again.
