  • I hope you enjoy coming along with me fabric shopping in Seoul, South Korea. Dongdaemun Fabric Market has everything you could ever dream including beautiful fabrics, sewing tools/accessories, fashion accessories and even garment manufacturing. It is quite easy to get lost in this area because of the various Seoul Shopping Malls. However, you should be able to find your way after walking around and spotting the fabric bolts.
A lot of the fabric stalls showed their available fabrics in samples/swatches. So you will need to order from the sample and come back a few hours later to pick your fabric up. If time is limited, there are still plenty of stalls that have fabric that can be cut on the spot. You are not limited for fabric choice here.
If you are interested in starting a clothing brand, fashion design, fabrics/textiles, this area is definitely worth visiting.
The Dongdaemun Design Plaza is also across the road from the Fabric Market and is also well worth a visit. There is a museum inside and the architecture is incredible.
I can see why so many inspiring fashion clothing brands are coming out of Seoul, South Korea.
We loved everything about South Korea. The cafe and fashion/shopping culture made our trip so memorable.
We are looking forward to travelling to South Korea again soon : )

Hi! I love the blouse (dress?) you are wearing at the end - the squared sleeves looks so good! Is it from one of your patterns maybe? And thank you for sharing your experience in Seoul - really enjoyed to follow along!

Great insight into fabric shopping. Can you recall seeing any bolts of natural linen for curtains?

I live in Memphis Tennessee. I get so jealous of cities with places like this with SO MANY options for fabric shopping. I can barley find %100 natural cotton where I live- and we grow it here!!!!! Let alone linen or silk. And travel to japan or Korea from the US is much more difficult 😢. So I appreciate videos like this where I can at least see what it’s like.

Hello! Thank you so much for watching 😊
Sorry to hear that! Sounds really frustrating to not be able to easily find natural fabrics when cotton is grown in your region. In my city, we also are limited when it comes to fabric shops, so I try to make the most of these trips and online shopping.
I can't imagine having this much fabric choice available all the time😯

Thank you Lorna! I'm so glad you enjoyed watching 🥰 It was nothing like I'd ever seen before! I think we just saw the tip of the iceberg too. There were so many more buildings in that area 🤯

Thank you! From what I gathered majority of the stores were open Monday - Friday. A few opened on Saturday. Best bet is midweek though :)

Hello! Oh how fun 😊 The lovely stall holder where I purchased fabric from said there were tailors in the building that can make clothing for you. They were on the lower floors in the building. It is great if you can speak a bit of Korean as I found not many people spoke English. I used my translate app however and found people to be helpful. Have a great trip! x
