Hi Melanie - Missing your posts. You do the very best tutorials on RUclips! With clear and concise instructions, easy-to-see wrong side/right side fabrics and contrasting stitches, no overpowering music and best of all, you're a great sewer. Your pure 5 star!!! Would love to see more. Jx
This is THE best french seam side pocket to french seam garment I have ever seen and I’ve been researching for years to find a straight forward, never fail technique to accomplish this. Thank you so much for this brilliant tutorial for all of us french seam lovers.
Oh, that is professional status. This will definitely be in my reference section
So glad to know you found it helpful 😊
I come back to this tutorial whenever I need a refresher for this task. Thanks to you for the clear explanation.
Thank u soooo much coz i was confused with other tutorials that didn't exactly show which side first coz the color of the fabric they use was the same color wrongside and out so thank you you made it clear which is front and back side you're working on..☺️
I'm a beginner and I managed to follow it - no fault of your tutorial, just my lack of ability. The tutorial was amazing. I had actually searched how to do flat felled seams with pockets because I don't have an overlocker and many people just assume you have one. And I really don't like the zigzag edge. After doing my first skirt without pockets and flat felled seams I wanted to challenge myself with pockets. I still don't love French seams but I have learnt so much today! I can't thank you enough. And finally, someone talking in centimetres, not inches. We don't live in 1950 with the imperial system.
... And you've inspired a future trip to Japan :)
Thank you for posting this onRUclips!
Wow, I did it! Thanks to your teaching, and being able to pause and rewind several times.
Absolutely brilliant tutorial, thank you so much! Just about to add pockets to my wedding dress!👰😍 xxx
Thanks so much for this video AND the free pattern. I always wished there were pockets in EVERY piece of clothing. Now I can have them in most! :)
This is so helpful. I needed a french seam for inside a reversible jacket. I managed to figure out how to get the right side facing out since it will show and sewed it down to the front. Great tutorial.❤👍🏼
What a splendid result and professional finish for any project with pockets. Thank you for sharing this and your pocket pattern too!
That's amazing thanks for sharing I plan to do work on my pant pattern today which had a very involved process to add pockets and I'm so glad I found your simple but beautiful way.
I was in the middle of making a side seam pocket. It’s simple in so many ways but for some reason found it a little confusing when adding it to French seams. Your video was a god sent. God I hope none of designer friends find out about my silly problem. Thank you for all your help. Lost in the seam.
Good explanation. Thanks for sharing
Thank you very much for sharing, and a free pattern to boot! Every part of the tutorial was informative and straightforward.
Aghhh...pebbles for pattern weights - genius❤❤
ooh, this is so neat and clean, definitely above my skillset, I can already see myself sewing that pocket shut on the last step 😄
No you can do it! Just follow this as you sew!
Thank you so much❤ I followed your video and made my first proper pocket! 😂
This is the way to make an instructional vid. Followed this for a Gambit-inspired pinafore because...well...POCKETS! Pleasant calm voice. Clear, uncomplicated, easy to follow directions. Should be bookmarked in every beginners play list. Thank you. Subbed.
This demonstration was exquisite. Thank you for your expertise sharing.
Amazing! I'm glad I found this.
Thank you, Melody
What a sophisticated approach. Thank you so much for generously sharing your technique. It's truly better than what I was taught in my fashion classes!
Thank you for posting this - it was brilliant for a newbie and really easy to follow.
This is exactly what I need for my projects! Thank you.
This is a very good tutorial. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you! Glad it was helpful 🥰
Thank you! What an incredible resource. I usually wing it with french seamed pockets, and it usually works out, but this is so clear and a neat finish
Thanks Denise. I am so glad that you found this video useful 🤍
I am stunned. I am.... 🤯. French seams are my favourite finish but I always messed up the pockets. So I stopped putting in pockets until I discovered the overedge stitch. It's a very good stitch but I prefer French seams as I sew with cotton lawn more than any other fabric and I find French seams the best. Your pocket technique is perfection. I will try it with the dress I am making now, which is a Merchant and Mills Florence. It doesn't have pockets but I put them in anyway. I will be working on the skirt tomorrow and will use your technique. I am sure it will work really well... Thank you so much for sharing this
Great video! I’ve referred to it a number of times now. Short, straight to the point and clear. Many thanks! ❤❤❤

Wow, I am going to use this technique from now on !!!
Very helpful
Thank you for taking the time to show is this. This will be a great way to prevent your pockets’ seams opening and you losing things. I’m going to download the pattern..
This is awesome! 😀Thanks a lot!
Thank you, Melody! A brilliant technique demonstrated clearly. What a gift!
Terrific video! Just what I needed to finish my linen pants. Thank you. ❤

THANK YOU!!, BEAUTIFUL LADY, for this excellent, easy to follow tutorial. 😊😊
The same exact way my great grandma used to stitch up her pockets! Sweet! Thanks for the great tutorial
Thank you. So very helpful. You are an excellent teacher
Thank you! I'm so glad you found it helpful 😊
This is brilliant! Thank you. I swear it came together more easily then a regular pocket and looks 100x better. Used the technique on my own drafted pocket pattern.
Thank you so much
Thank you! Such a great tutorial. I’m going to use this tonight.
Thanks Carol. Glad to hear you found this video helpful for your sewing. 😊🫶🏼
This is the best tutorial on this! Thank you. I’m sure my next attempt at French seams on an inseam pocket will be better
色々動画を見ましたが、一番分かりやすい説明でした。
ありがとうございます。
Thankyou so much Melody this is beautiful, love it!
Thanks so much for the tutorial! I'm sewing a Hinterland dress and I really wanted it to look nice and crisp. And the french seams with the pockets made such a difference! Love it! Thanks!!
Thank you for a to the point clear instructional tutorial & the free pattern. 🙂
Thanks Nancy. I am so happy to hear 🤍🤍
Thank you, Uzbekistan,Tashkent
THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!
🥰🤍
Great video than😊
Thank you so much for this tutorial!!! I was desperately trying to find something that could help me understand how to do French seams on a pocket. I had tried some picture tutorials but I couldn’t figure it out. Your video was so clear, easy to follow along with, and I am so grateful I found it. ❤❤❤❤❤
I loved this technique! I had used another technique for French seam pockets and it was so messy and bulky. I loved this because it was much neater and the pockets don't roll over thanks to the edge stitch. It also worked on my satin fabric so that's a plus. Thank you!
Thank you! I have a 1960's cotton dress that has this treatment, and I could never puzzle out how it was done. Now I will be able to recreate this beautiful construction!
Thats great! I am glad you found this tutorial 😊
Glad to have found your tutorial, it’s very helpful and I’m following your steps as I’m sewing a dress of a very pretty but very flimsy and fraying material. Thanks for making a tutorial 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌 cheers from the Netherlands
I wish I’d seen this video before I attempted my French seamed pockets. I have some raw edges on the inner seam that I had pinked but this tutorial is so clean, precise and thorough. I love it! Thank you for this!
Le encontré por Instagram que bonita manera de explicar. Gracias desde Puerto Rico
Thank you
🤍🤍
I’ve just finished following your brilliant tutorial &have beautiful French seam pockets in my needle cord dress. I’ve used a William morris fabric for the pockets so when I move around there’s a little pattern to show. Thank you for your really well done instructions &camera work …..looking forward to learning so much more from you. Thank you…(dress not yet finished but I’m just so pleased with these pockets had to comment straight away. )
Wow! This technique is much better than what I came up with😅 mine left me with a bit of raw edges right under the pocket. I did an overcast stitch by hand for that because I couldn’t come up with a better way. I don’t have a serger which is why I did French seams to begin with.
Thank you for your solution!
Muito obrigada a si por partilhar o seu conhecimento!!!!❤️🇵🇹
2.00pm.
Thank you! This was so clear. I recently used a pants pattern and was so confused with the pockets, the illustrations did not marry up with instructions. Your video made me realise they had missed out a step. Very helpful 😊
I'm so glad that it was helpful! ❤
I will try this.
🤍🤍
Thank you. This excellent and clear video was exactly what I wanted. Clear and concise, it was way more helpful than some much longer videos I watched.
Yay for brevity!
I added these to some casual pants in mid weight linen. They turned out great and now I’m not always looking for my cell phone. Yay for pockets!
Thank you ☺ I am glad that you found the video helpful and have made a pair of linen pants with the french seam pockets! They sound lovely x
...hello, thanks 4 your tutorial...yes I love it...I have done it before
Thank you. So happy that this is helpful 🤍
It worked amazing for me. I'm using a silky material and wanted to make sure all my raw edges were tucked away.
So very pleased you did this you tube. I cannot get my mind sorted for instagram… how to use it properly…. Ugh . So I’m so happy with this!!!
Flawless victory
🥰🤍
Thank you SO MUCH for this tutorial! I have used another tutorial before for pockets with French seam, but yours creates a much better finish, thus I've been using yours for my last project (pockets for a 50s dress). One thing though, for the top stitching (4:09), I didn't realise that the top stitching had to cover the raw edge of the fabric beneath that top stitching. Thus, my first pocket has raw edges, which I have to hand-sew to enclose it (I haven't done that, no time yet...). For my second pair of pocket, I made sure that the top stitch covered the raw edge, hence all raw edges are enclosed for that pocket. Still, thanks a lot for the tutorial!
Will you please share the pattern and a video of the shirt you are wearing? The white one….PLEASE
THANK YOU ❤🙏❤️ I’ve been dying to find a way to french seam pockets! I’ve sewn a few skirts lately and struggled to find neat ways of finishing the insides. Found solutions to all but the pockets and it pains me to see them messy as I don’t have a serger, only a regular machine (& prefer the french seams anyway). Thank you ❤🥰
Ooooooh this is so neat & pretty. My previous attempts at french seam pockets have been a bit dodgy. I’ll be referring back to this tutorial for sure. Thank you.
Thank you! Glad to hear this tutorial will be helpful for your next project 🥰🤍
What would happen if I didn't edge stitch the pocket? I've followed the tutorial, which is wonderfully clear (thank you!) and I'm very pleased with the result! But I think I might like the look of the pocket edge better if it weren't edge-stitched. Would the fabric roll if I omitted that step? Thanks again for an amazing tutorial!
Thank you for the vedeo. I tried your way, i made one big mistake.. Will fix that tomorrow and hopefully finsh of the skirt in time for after tomorrow geathering. Thanks again
Thank you so much Melody. I always prefer to sew sew French seams but lately I’ve started putting pockets in everything and didn’t know if it was possible to insert side seams into French seams. Thankfully I found your channel and you made it all so simple - I’ve successfully made a dress with side pockets. Your presentation is calm and clear, but can I just mention one thing which I think could make it even better? The music over your speaking is very distracting and annoying- it isn’t at all calming music but very insistent and made me want to tear my hair! But full marks for a very good tutorial. Thank you.
Love this, the only thing I’m confused is on the seam between the front part of the pocket (the first part attached) and the main fabric still has a small part of fabric showing up there that is annoying me, may be the perfectionist in me, but I tried this and got that and don’t know if there is a way to not have that little part as well
Tried to download the pattern of the pocket a few times, but still have not received the PDF
תודה רבה, לא הצלחתי להוריד pdf
