This is THE best french seam side pocket to french seam garment I have ever seen and I’ve been researching for years to find a straight forward, never fail technique to accomplish this. Thank you so much for this brilliant tutorial for all of us french seam lovers.

I watched your video over and over until I finally got the courage to follow it to the letter. Am thrilled. Your tutorial so far as I know, is the only one which uses plain colour fabric with right and wrong sides easily identifiable. Why do so many others use busy printed fabrics and race through the stages? They could learn a lot from you! Thank you.

I was in the middle of making a side seam pocket. It’s simple in so many ways but for some reason found it a little confusing when adding it to French seams. Your video was a god sent. God I hope none of designer friends find out about my silly problem. Thank you for all your help. Lost in the seam.

This is so helpful. I needed a french seam for inside a reversible jacket. I managed to figure out how to get the right side facing out since it will show and sewed it down to the front. Great tutorial.❤👍🏼

I’ve just been plowing my way through lots of French seam pockets and this is the best - clear concise straightforward instructions. And best of all, plain fabric with outside and reverse sides easy to see. So many others are using a fabric with a busy pattern and while their instructions are not bad, I really have no idea what they’re actually doing. Many thanks.

I am stunned. I am.... 🤯. French seams are my favourite finish but I always messed up the pockets. So I stopped putting in pockets until I discovered the overedge stitch. It's a very good stitch but I prefer French seams as I sew with cotton lawn more than any other fabric and I find French seams the best. Your pocket technique is perfection. I will try it with the dress I am making now, which is a Merchant and Mills Florence. It doesn't have pockets but I put them in anyway. I will be working on the skirt tomorrow and will use your technique. I am sure it will work really well... Thank you so much for sharing this

I am a beginner.. A month old…. Was looking for a tutorial to sew my first pocket. This felt daunting at first but I managed so well the first time for a pair of pants. Important... If your material has right and wrong side… take not when cutting extra pockets. And on pants… label the panels(back-right, front-right, etc) otherwise u may get them mixed up.

I'm a beginner and I managed to follow it - no fault of your tutorial, just my lack of ability. The tutorial was amazing. I had actually searched how to do flat felled seams with pockets because I don't have an overlocker and many people just assume you have one. And I really don't like the zigzag edge. After doing my first skirt without pockets and flat felled seams I wanted to challenge myself with pockets. I still don't love French seams but I have learnt so much today! I can't thank you enough. And finally, someone talking in centimetres, not inches. We don't live in 1950 with the imperial system.

Wow! This technique is much better than what I came up with😅 mine left me with a bit of raw edges right under the pocket. I did an overcast stitch by hand for that because I couldn’t come up with a better way. I don’t have a serger which is why I did French seams to begin with.

Thank you SO MUCH for this tutorial! I have used another tutorial before for pockets with French seam, but yours creates a much better finish, thus I've been using yours for my last project (pockets for a 50s dress). One thing though, for the top stitching (4:09), I didn't realise that the top stitching had to cover the raw edge of the fabric beneath that top stitching. Thus, my first pocket has raw edges, which I have to hand-sew to enclose it (I haven't done that, no time yet...). For my second pair of pocket, I made sure that the top stitch covered the raw edge, hence all raw edges are enclosed for that pocket. Still, thanks a lot for the tutorial!

I loved this technique! I had used another technique for French seam pockets and it was so messy and bulky. I loved this because it was much neater and the pockets don't roll over thanks to the edge stitch. It also worked on my satin fabric so that's a plus. Thank you!

What would happen if I didn't edge stitch the pocket? I've followed the tutorial, which is wonderfully clear (thank you!) and I'm very pleased with the result! But I think I might like the look of the pocket edge better if it weren't edge-stitched. Would the fabric roll if I omitted that step? Thanks again for an amazing tutorial!
