    Amazing video! I’m a beginner sewer and I don’t own an overlocker. I have been using French seams to create all my dresses but never made pockets before with French seams. This video was SO HELPFUL!!!!

    This is perfect! That little bit about tucking the seam allowance inside the side pieces in that pivot point. Except... that I have pockets that don't start in a waistline, they are full side-seam pockets, and I'm completely unable to tuck that little bit inside anything because the pocket slants downward and there's too much of a gap - so now I'm at a loss. I'll just have to futz with it somehow - not quite sure how yet. This is the best video so far on the topic. I just don't know what to do at the top of my pocket piece where it meets the side. :/

    This is such a brilliant video. Making a Love Notions Rhapsody dress the only thing missing were pockets…. Jo you are a very good teacher! Thank you!

    Thank you so much. It is so hard to see a lengthier tutorial of finishing a garment with french seam. I am also a beginner sewist and do not have an overlock. I have been trying to find videos that the entire project is completed with professional looking seams doable on a sewing machine.

    Thank you for this tutorial!! I've been struggling to finish my pockets in a way that felt professional and clean. This is exactly what I needed. I was able to follow along and pause when necessary as I was sewing in the pockets. Many thanks!

    Thank you so much for this excellent tutorial. I'd been grappling with the best way to put in pockets this way, but this video solves the issues I was having AND makes for some beautifully concealed pockets. Thank you!

    This is brilliant Jo, just a quick question if you are popping in your pocket in a dress and the top of the pocket is curved as well as the bottom in what direction would you snip at the top of the pocket to release the seam on the dress if that makes sense 🙂

      A V shape to let the convex curve open out.

    Ive tried french seams on a curve and keep getting 'bunching' when I turn it the right way. How do you avoid this please?

    • @joanneroberts2357

      Hi, It is a really basic answer but you need to sew slowly. Ripples happen when one fabric, top or bottom, are going through the feed dogs at different rates. Also as pockets and curves cut across the grain of the fabric they can stretch out. Hope that helps.

      @@joanneroberts2357 Thanks Joanne, I'll watch the video again and I'm going to give it a go on the pockets of my dress project. The underarms curve I'll have to unpick as they look awful 😔I'll get there 😁

    My question to you is how far down to you place the pocket on to the fabric you did not mention that placement .

    • @joanneroberts1088
      @joanneroberts1088 7 месяцев назад

      It is usually shown on the paper pattern piece with a symbol. The symbols vary but the instructions will have a key to follow.

    So you can not try this method on a pair of pant or on the side of a jacket pattern.
