    You were looking at load data for the Barnes Tac-XP, which is a solid copper bullet that loads more like a 230gr lead core. This is the inappropriate way to find a charge weight. It is, however, safer than loading a copper bullet using lead data as that will always result in overpressure.

    In 45 I have a Taurus and Charles Daly 1911s. Love them both. I’ve got a compensator on the Charles Daly. I reload with mostly Rocky Mountain Reloading bullets, but have used Berrys and X-treme bullets too. For 45 I really like power pistol powder.

    Great video. I have reloaded/shot thousands of Berry's using a Lee Loadmaster with a FCD for IDPA/SSP/9mm and always found them accurate at those ranges. When you shoot thousands of rounds a year and use Berry's there is a good chance you are using range brass, not new. Maybe go through a streamlined process for reloading range brass that requires primer pocket swaging and possible case trimming? Honestly, I never trimmed handgun brass, but primer pockets are the slow step which many times requires off press work. Thanks!

    I have a Ruger 1911, a Remington R-1 1911, a Para Ordinance GI Expert 1911, - all 5" government modles, and a Springfield XDS 4" , all in 45acp. The load I shoot in all my 45's is the 230gr Berry's fmj solid plated bullet, 5 1/2 grains of Unique, WLP's, in any brass for around 820fps in my 5" guns and 800 fps in the XDS. Good accurate load in all my 45's and fairly easy on the guns for a target plinking load. Yet close enough to regular army ball ammo to work in a pinch for self defence.

    My favorite .45acp, hands down, is the 1911. I load on a Dillion 550B. I have loaded cast, plated and jacketed for the .45 over the years. For practice and USPSA competition it makes sense to use plated bullets. I have used Berry's, Rainer and Extreme with near equal success. I have also loaded polymer coated and Moly coated. I have a test barrel filled with rubber mulch to recover the bullets after firing. With polymer the coating does come off so I no longer use them. Copper plated and Moly hold up the best.

    When using load data for other components (Hodgon site), I find Barnes TAC-XP to be a poor place to start, they are entirely copper and too voluminous to use their charge data, especially hollow base.

    AA2, AA5, Winchester 231 powders. As far as the press, my suggestion is a working man's type, Lee progressive and turret types.
    For me, the Dillon isn't anything I need nor want. I don't load those type quantities to have a press like that.
    Edit, I even load on a single stage Lee.

    • @jonathanlogan6647
      @jonathanlogan6647 Год назад

      Not a hundred 150 fps. Elevations plays little into muzzle velocity, temp yea but me and Gavin live in similar environments that way. Storage I don't believe that's it either as I have a hard time believing he just let that ammo or powder sit around until it was compromised. Chrono, well that's why I asked. That load should be doing over 900

    • @CrashRacknShoot
      @CrashRacknShoot Год назад

      @@jonathanlogan6647 eh, who knows. Could be a bent chrono arm causing havoc lol. But yeah you're right, 150 fps isn't something to ignore, especially in something relatively slow moving like .45 acp.

    Good and fun video!
    I am a newer loader and the most frustrating thing for me has been loading Berry’s in .44. I am using their 240 grain flat point and they have an ever so slight cannelure. I cannot get the roll crimp right on these and it feels like I am over crimping them because there is no groove for me to set into. If anybody has any advice I am all ears.
    Rock on 👍🏻

    What is might the difference be between small pistol primer vs small pistol mag primers. Consider many manufacturer are using small pistol in there loading and I reuse there brass. Have you tested a difference in the small vs small mag primers? I have concerns on pressure.

    So ive notice shooting berrys 230 grain out of the 11-inch Reising M50 SMG at 200 meters I'll occasionally get bullets I can actually see in the spotting scope spiraling into Target It almost looks like 18 inch diameter prop wash or a drunk moth. They are however not keyholing and at 100m a 5 shot group looks good at 6 inches.
    Anyone have any idea what is happening?

In my own experience, I witnessed this shooting 50 caliber, hollow base bullets just before sunset. my friend and I were astonished at this, but soon figured it out.
