    I really appreciate how honest and emotionally raw you are in your videos. You tell like it is and you don’t hide anything which takes a lot of guts!
    I understand first hand how difficult this process is . I launched an accessory line many years ago and ran to the same problems you’re having. I was too small, many things got messed up and had to be redone it became ridiculously expensive etc.
    I wanted to say that if all else fails - you should seriously consider a career as a teacher and possibly start your own design school. You’re an excellent speaker and so smart and organized. You also have a vast knowledge of the design process.
    You would be helping many young talented people by channeling your many talents into this field - please consider this path.

    Merci, Justine! Congratulations on launching this beautiful collection. Because you included us in your journey from conception to realization, it feels like small a victory for all of us (compared to your huge victory!). The designs are lovely & look great on the model. (I love that she complained about those shoes, which do indeed look horribly uncomfortable.) I applaud your “seasonless” approach to fashion design: it resists the arbitrary, aggressively marketed notion that a garment is quickly outdated, “so last season,” & thus must be replaced. It’s a better reflection of how we actually live in our clothing. If we have a piece we love, we'll wear it again & again. Even rich & famous women do it: when Nancy Pelosi was photographed leaving the White House after meeting with Trump this week, her classic, years-old coat went so viral that Max Mara is reissuing the design for 2019. Layering is quite practical year-round, especially in LA, & any combination of your beautiful designs will work well in our climate. Once again, congratulations & brava!

    Huge Congratulations Justine...this is fabulous and beautiful. You are so right about 'seasons'...most of us wear our clothes all year round and layer accordingly. Thank you so much for using a normal sized model. She is very slim but she is not 'skinny' and out of proportion. It is much easier to relate to the clothes this way. I wish you every success and hope the collection sells really well for you.

    Unfortunately, have to agree with the critical opinions here. There is no vibe to this collection, while the prices are at the level of Isabel Marant. Your take on ethical fashion is laudable, but fashion, apart from being ethical, has to be appealing. This collection is not. The cardigan is unnecessarily convoluted. The velcro-idea totally off-putting. A cheap-looking top for 90 EUR is not gonna fly. Sorry, maybe next time you will do better - I hope so - you’re clever and persistent.

  • @lisab3748
    @lisab3748 5 лет назад +65

    Love your youtube posts and even your jewelry line. The fashion line however I find quite lackluster ( and I can see that it was so much work). The skirt would be the most interesting piece, but I find that hairs and all sorts of pieces of fabric end up getting stuck on velcro. I also think that the velcro color should match the belt, otherwise if you don't cover it fully, you have a piece of black sticking out. Plus if it makes a model look more shubby in the waist than she is, it will only look worse on me.
    And Lyocell strikes me as the type of fabric that will show every roll, bump that there is on my body. I avoid those fabric.
    Second most interesting piece is the Chloe, but I am so over the shapeless box fit ( so much of it now all over), and the color would make my skin completely washed out. Love the shoulder detail of it though.
    Chloe top in black,longer with a shaped waist would have me interested.
    Even though this collection may not be right for me, I wish you much success in it.

    We are missing really good tailoring, interesting colours, good materials shapes and length that flatter. I did not feel you delivered wholly on that.
    To be more specific, while I love the turquoise and tolerate the black and pink, the colour palette is a mystery to me... The skirt length is great but the belt detailing adds volume, is cumbersome and would make it difficult to combine it with any other pieces (I own). The detail on the root dress feels half-assed and too home-made 80s for me. I do not stand behind the lyocell and jersey. The pants are too casual for normal wear and too pricey for loungewear. The inspiration behind it was crazy interesting, for me it barely touched the final result.
    The process itself is spotless, the result much less so. I am so sorry. I would have loved to pay up for quality, thought, EU-based stuff... but this does not speak to me at all.

      I agree! I adore Justine to bits but have to say I’m quite disappointed by the results. I was so looking forward to buying something from her as to support her as a designer, but when the collection came out, I just deflated. Because I really admire her, I feel like criticism is necessary for her to work on, as I won’t spend that much money on something I don’t like a lot, even if it was made by a friend. So even though I like Justine as a person, because of this channel, I probably won’t buy her collection if it were displayed in store without me having any prior knowledge about the designer. The only thing that somewhat tempted me was the turquoise t shirt, since the price is quite similar to Sunspel, which is a high quality British brand i wear a lot, it being made in the UK. But everything else does not hit it for me. The gathered bits of the vest tops, with the material looking stretchy (on the screen at least) make the end result looks cheap, like a vest top you can pick up in a fast-fashion brand shop. The colour combo is also a mystery to me as well. I feel like either you go pastel or basic, not both in the same collection. But I’m no expert in fashion. It’s just my personal opinion. I really want Justine to succeed in her own right as designer, regardless of her work on RUclips.

    I hope this does not come across as disrespectful (I have never understood fashion)
    I do not understand why one needs inspiration for really "simple" clothing (at least it looks to me like that).
    I am so frustrated by the fact that I cannot understand this as I see many people really enjoying this kinf of clothes.
    Can someone explain this to me?

    • @smajlik1
      @smajlik1 5 лет назад +35

      From the wearer's perspective - simple clothes make you stand out, they won't overpower you ("look at the beautiful girl in that dress, it really suits her" vs "look at the beautiful dress on that girl"). Simple pieces are easier to combine. Simple clothes let the structure of the fabric stand you, which I personally like a lot. Of course then you need to have good quality of fabric. But then it comes to my last point, simple clothes tend to look more expensive and sophisticated. About the inspiration for simple garments, none of the pieces here are totally plain. They have interesting cut, details or are made of interesting fabric. And those are the things you need the inpiration for :)

    • @RainbowSunshineRain
      @RainbowSunshineRain 5 лет назад +14

      Safro Rox From the outside a lot of things appear easy and simple - it happened to me in other domains, when I changed my work domain. The devil is in the details; in addition to this, it is very dificult to keep high quality and ethics. If you watch the previous episodes I think it would give you some clue on the chalenges. Regarding the design, the trick is creating something that looks good on many body types, is simple, elegant, and still comes with something new. In this case, the turtleneck with the stylised root that holds the fabric around the neck is amazing. I haven’t found until now a comfortable turtle neck, usually they are very tight on the neck; if they are not tight, they are too loose and fall. Having that harder part, it keeps the turtleneck up beautifully, it is comfortable because it keeps some space to the skin, and looks tidy. Not to mention that the material is very good quality, as rarely I can find.

    • @jrochest4642

      I would say -- these are not simple at all! The folded and tucked sleeve on the lavender shirt; the root pattern on the dress and the cardigan, the tucks on the sleeveless tops, are all pretty specific and complex to get to work. Just because they look simple doesn't mean they are. Am ordering the lavender top and the cardi.

    • @jukkalepparanta2463
      @jukkalepparanta2463 5 лет назад +5

      Joanne Rochester These are very simple. It doesn't take more than a look to figure out the rough pattern of the pieces (at least on this video). If you want to see complex minimalism look at Delpozo.

  • @magicalspacegiraffe

    While more original, the skirt is very unflattering. Plus, velcro comes open easily, especially over time, hence they are not used around the waist due to waist expanding significantly during movement etc. And then one of the outfits is sweatpants and a t-shirt and would look at home with a pair of uggs, if you know what I mean. I guess I am not surprised after the week of outfits video.

    Justine congratulations on launching your new collection, the hard work and dedication you have shown has been so interesting to watch...but I could weep...there is nothing in your collection that I can wear. I'm a 5' 2" size 16/18 apple shaped 69 year old with a very short neck. [A nightmare shape in anybodys book!] The skirt would come to just under my big chest and add pounds to my waist, I honestly do not feel it is a flattering shape for any figure with the gathering but the slotted belt is a nice feature. The knitted dress with the [fabulous] pattern will be at least a foot too long, cling to my lumps and the sleeves are way too long for me, bracelet length is my most flattering. My heart lifted when I saw the cardigan but dropped when I saw you have to fling it over one shoulder. I'd thought it was a tunic style top which I could maybe wear, and it had the lower neck. Black is a hard colour for a lot of people to carry off if it is the main colour of the piece, you did a colour contrast with the skirt, but not the black dress, the blue/green colour with a black detail would have been wonderful imo. Even your lovely styles from last season are not for me as I cannot wear things tucked in and the lovely belted details of the pants and skirt would be wasted. Please forgive the seemingly negative feedback, I am not blaming you, you have fresh ideas and will not want to repeat shapes and images from the mass markets but my short tubby body just can't carry the styles you've created. Tunic length has been a godsend for ladies shaped like me, 3/4 sleeves make us look more in proportion and just below knee length is more flattering for legs than a mid calf, stopping at the fattest part. Nor do your sizes go up far enough to accommodate me. I know all of these problems are down to costings and sales markets etc but I hope you will see what I am trying to say, with the kindest intentions. I also appreciate that dumpy ladies are not perhaps your prime target in customers - but we do have spending power too so maybe there is hope! I so wanted to have something you have designed. My hope is that you will become a huge success and be able to afford to devise two collections, one for tall slim people and one for the 'less easily fitted'. To have someone with your principles and vision making a collection for lumpy ladies which would flatter and empower us would be amazing. I am not giving up hope and I wish you all the success you deserve. I'm just so sorry I can not give you any sales on this occasion, still loving and wearing your jewelry though xx

      @Connie Seward Oh no I couldn't be nasty to Justine, she's a treasure and I nearly didn't comment about the collection, but I was literally waiting to buy something - well pre-order - and I couldn't. So I hoped to give some feedback that may be useful in the future. You never know, there is a humongous market out there for ladies, old and young, who are a bad/odd shape for whatever reason. We have immense buying power and there is no-one who specialises in this area, who makes ethical, well made pieces. Justine could become a world leader for us ladies and make millions! Wouldn't that be lovely? For us at least. It may be not such fun to have to design for the less 'gazelle-like' shall I say ;-]

    Justine I love your videos. But one of the reasons that I started to buy fast fashion in the 90s was that they have small sizes that fits me. It is mostly impossible to find real xS/34 in other places :( We are not profitable? Why this happens so often? We are a lot of petites ! I only find suits and clothes for work in H&M or Zara, and not always. I have always made an effort to follow entrepreneurs, young designers, eco brands... but there are no xs sizes in their shops. Why? :'( We are a lot of small people.

    Congratulations on your launch. I have to be honest and say the velcro strap doesn't seem like the best choice visually. The stitching and the way the ends don't line up really takes away from the clean lines of the collection. I would've explored having several rows of hook&eye(like in a bra) or mix hook and eye with buttons or just buttons (could've been concealed buttons). A d-ring closure would've looked more expensive and cleaner in the end even with the ends hanging out, but maybe you want to avoid incorporating trendy elements.

    Hi Justine, I can so appreciate the amount of work that was involved in the design process and launch of your new collection. And I understand how complex "simple" is as flaws cannot be hidden. My favorite piece is the the dress with such an interesting and original design but I was hoping it was a turtleneck sweater which would have worked better for my lifestyle here in southern Oregon. I also have to say that I found your model stiff and mannequin like which I did not feel served your beautiful clothes well. I would have preferred to see them on you as you are so vibrant and expressive on camera not to mention tall and beautiful!!! At the very least a video or two to show some movement and how the clothes look in the real world would add a much needed dimension. Hopefully you can still add that to your site. I hope you can take these comments not as a criticism but as well meaning feedback from a total fan of everything you do!!! k

    Congratulations on the launch of your new collection! I've been following you from the beginning of your youtube journey and it's been a pleasure to see the progresses you've made and the quality contents of your channel. Unfortunately, none of the pieces in the collection corresponds to my taste and style. I can't find anything modern, or fresh, or new in your designs, I don't understand the choice of colors, completely out of fashion in my humble opinion, and the collection doesn't look coherent globally... Single pieces with little hints of originality, but I think it's not enough for me... Also, the styling of the model, the choice of shoes, the length of trousers...I really don't like it! It looks too much '90's Germany and not 2020's Europe. Think you've lost some of your parisian allure..... I'm so sorry for saying that but hope you will not feel offended. It's my no means the purpose of my comment. Just my personal opinion! Thank you and good luck anyway! Hugs from Paris

    I love these designs. They strike me as nomadic- in the sense that they are great for traveling and varying weather, something I always look for in clothes, and they look both polished and comfortable, which is deceptively simple but really difficult to pull off in reality, especially while traveling. Thank you for taking us with you through your process; it was very inspiring and educational. I love knowing such specifics of how much care, time, and creativity goes into a well made ready-to-wear garment. It gives me hope for humanity! Haha but also I’m serious. My favorite is the cardigan because I love a cardigan’s comfort and versatility in general, and this one’s design is brilliant both in terms of practicality and style. I can imagine myself with it in many different outfits, dressed up and down, and I love imagining myself on a windswept beach on a cloudy day in it.... To me it is both soft and powerful. I have a background in costume design so tend to look at fashion through that lens. The character of one who wears this cardigan strikes me as both a romantic dreamer (flowy asymmetrical shape, organic design, charcoal grey and aqua “with eyes like the sea after a storm”) and also someone who takes no bs... the powerful points and also the gorgeous shoulder details. Don’t mess with her or you’ll be sorry. Absolute genius wow factor.

    I congratulate you on your collection although it is not flattering to a 5'3" size 10 like me. I feel it will suit your body type not mine. Also it is way to expensive for the average salary. • @Ceibhfhionn
      @Ceibhfhionn 5 лет назад +4

      I was just wondering about that! I wonder if the thickness and perhaps volume of the fabric is responsible; it hangs on the model’s body so far from her form that it’s apron-like.

    • @Ceibhfhionn
      @Ceibhfhionn 5 лет назад +1

      Tatiana Kim yeah the gathering makes the top edge of the skirt vary in height like it’s been unevenly scalloped. Was that intentional, Justine? For all I know you cut the fabric to emphasize that.

    Hi Justine,
    I really admire the way you work, and your videos are very interesting.
    Nevertheless, I believe that you need more unique, eye catching looking pieces (as far as shape goes, or more vibrant colors maybe, in short bolder pieces) to make people more excited.
    Lately, I have bought nice very loose tops in vibrant fabrics and with some golden details, and I'm excited to wear them because they stand out. I feel that you should have more stand out pieces in your collection, and a few high quality basics.

How about going with a fat, short model for your next "collection" Justine? Is this a design challenge for you? How many more months will it take you extra?? Crappy over-priced collection and a lot of bullshit that we've been served the last few months...

I would love to see a larger model, model your clothes. As well, I would love to see you create a collection by or for body types, like a Romantic, or Classic or Dramatic's. Hello Justine. I like the Gabrielle knitted. I'm 165 cm. In my opinion, by not including the XS size, you are excluding a good number of potential customers. I also like the Marion pants so much, it looks very confortable and the Camille jersey top. The way you styled the wrap pant with the other items makes the whole pieces look stunning.. I can tell you that your collection brings something new and I can see the touches of a designer who worked on a theme and on an idea to ends up creating something new.. I personally need to touch the fabrics to tell if I can wear something or not (for special sensitivities I have for some materials) but for the rest, I already like many pieces.. Congratulations and all the Best of Success Sorry for my log comments by the way

    Thank you for taking us along for the creation of this collection. Appreciated all the hard work that goes into this process. Your remark about the seasons got me thinking. I did register that I am leaving more lighterweight pieces in my wardrobe all year round by layering in the colder months. At the same time, living in place with clear seasons, I do enjoy the seasons. I like how it gently shifts the way I dress, what I like the eat, etc. Living very urban consiuosly experiencing the seasons is for me a way to stay in touch with nature.

But hopefully this time next year I’ll be at target and I’ll definitely be checking out your collections. My faves so far are the knitted dress, the grey top (Chloe I think) and from your other collection I love the wrap skirt, wrap trousers, kimono top and the jacquard crop top too. Can’t wait to be able to purchase from you. I’m desperate to find ethical clothing brands for when I’m at my healthy weight.

    Hey Justine! I just saw the collection on your website and I really love it, it think that the colors work really great together and (as you told before) this is not a collection so it doesn't feel like a uniform. I saw that you have sizes from European S to European XXL, which I think it's great, however I wanted to mention that here in Latin America we are very small so it would be nice to see size XS as well in the future (I understand if you are not willing to add such a small size since very few persons from Latin America would buy your collection since each piece is half minimum wage). I really enjoyed seeing the process and now at least I know the top of the iceberg of what is like to lunch a new collection in a relatively small brand. Thank you for sharing so much information 💜

    Hello Justine! And congratulations indeed on the new collection. I had always dreamed of being a fashion designer as a child, and I am saddened that I didn't get into it in adulthood. You should feel very proud of what you accomplished here, it looks amazing. I really do love the turtleneck dress with the root design, and the accent color chosen is very flattering on so many skin tones. I am also really intrigued by the wrap pants that you created, as a curvy and boarding plus size woman some of the cuts chosen aren't the best on me, but I feel you did a wonderful job in making sure that there was something that would suit different body types well. If I weren't going to Italy in a couple of months I would grab a couple of pieces right this second. Please keep up the wonderful work

    You are FABULOUS!!! I applaud and support your ethical standards!!! I have learned SO much from your videos and watching them has shifted me back to a classic, elegant core wardrobe that can be layered and dressed up or down. I have also reconsidered, my makeup, hairstyle, skin care, etc.
    I love the idea of knitwear and was expecting your collection to be more along the lines of Wolford, simple yet versatile, classic pieces that work well together with a couple of versions of each piece to suit different body types. I suspect that the quality of your fabric is in par, but the designs are so innovative that they aren’t really feasible for much of your fans and potential market. I would encourage you to study Wolford, not to copy them, but to stir your own creative juices re how you might translate your vibe into something more universally flattering. You are brilliant!!! No one expects your first collections to be flawless. I hope you will take my suggestions with the spirit they were intended❤️. I believe in you and your ability to transform the fashion industry!!! Streamline, simplify, via negativa!!! You’ve got this!!!

    Wow Justine, I just viewed your collection. It is simple, elegant, and so many interchangeable pieces. The wrap pants and wrap skirts are ingenious. I see that it would hide a tummy and elongate the legs. I love the knitted dress the most. I like that you are not doing fast fashion and have substantial long lasting garments. At the current moment I am unable to afford the prices, however I plan on when I want to go shopping instead of buying clothes that wear out literally in months, I will be saving up for your collection. The colors and fabrics can be be used in so many ways. This makes me so happy that a woman is actually doing something to off set fast fashion that causes so many people worldwide to barely be able to live. I will be sharing your website with friends and family. With admiration and respect from North Carolina, USA.
